    Product Research

    Features

Overview: The Canon PowerShot V10 is a compact point-and-shoot camera that is designed specifically for vlogging. It has a highly portable form factor with handy controls that you can operate with one hand. The V10 is equipped with features and components from the PowerShot G-series. Its 19mm (35mm equivalent) wide-angle lens is ideal for recording yourself and others when holding it up in a natural manner, without your arm completely outstretched. The 2" LCD screen flips up 180° so you can frame yourself for self-portraits and videos. The convenient built-in stand lets you place the camera anywhere, and tilt it forward or backward 30° for tabletop use. The PowerShot V10 comes with a wrist strap and USB charging/data cable.

Image Sensor: The PowerShot V10 is equipped with a 1" high-sensitivity CMOS image sensor, similar to the one found in the PowerShot G7 X Mark III. It has 20.9 total megapixels and approximately 15.2MP for still photos and 13.1MP for movie recording (Full HD, 16:9). It uses the DIGIC X processor for sharp, high quality images.

Lens: The camera features a fixed 6.6mm f/2.8 lens with a focusing range of 0.16 feet (1.92") to infinity. During movie recording, the 35mm equivalent focal length is 19mm with a 97.° angle of view. When shooting stills, the equivalent focal length is 18mm with a 100.2° angle of view. The aperture range is f/2.8 to f/8.

Digital Zoom: You can select one of three digital zoom levels to get closer to your subject: 1.5x, 2.0x, or 3.0x. Digital zoom cannot be combined with Movie Digital IS or Auto Level.

LCD Screen: The 2" LCD capacitive-touch screen has an aspect ratio of 3:2, with approximately 460,000 dots. The panel can be flipped forward approximately 180° so you can frame self-portraits and self-videos. When the screen is rotated toward the subject, a mirror image is displayed automatically. The display also automatically inverts the image to match the camera's orientation, and whether the screen is open.

Microphones: The PowerShot V10 features a high-quality stereo microphone on the top for excellent omnidirectional audio pickup. You can choose between auto or manual recording levels. A wind filter can be enabled in the menu when recording in windy conditions to reduce low-frequency wind noise. A 3.5mm stereo mini jack is provided for plugging in an optional external microphone (plug-in power supported). When an external mic is plugged in, the built-in microphone and the wind filter feature are disabled.

Hands Free Shooting: When you need to shoot hands-free, you can utilize the convenient built-in stand. Like the LCD screen, the stand swings out to hold the camera upright on a flat surface, and tilts the camera downward from -30° to -10° and upward from 10° to 30°. The camera also has a standard 1/4" tripod thread on the bottom panel that can accommodate the Canon HG-100TBR Tripod Grip (sold separately), or virtually any traditional tripod or boom with a 1/4" screw.

Recording Media: The camera records still images and videos onto microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC memory cards. The camera supports cards that comply with SD speed class and UHS speed class, and cards with the UHS-I interface. UHS-II cards are not supported. Cards should be formatted in the camera, and will be formatted in FAT12/16 (microSD), FAT32 (microSDHC), or exFAT (microSDXC). You should use a card that has ample read/write speeds for the movie recording quality:

Shooting Modes: The Canon PowerShot V10 offers the following shooting modes: Auto Movie, Smooth Skin Movie, Movie IS Mode, Manual Exposure Movie, and Auto Photo. Smooth Skin mode uses image processing to make skin look smoother, while Movie IS mode lets you record with reduced camera shake. Manual Exposure Movie mode allows you to set the shutter speed, aperture value, and ISO speed. Auto Photo is for taking still photos. The camera analyzes the scene and sets the optimum settings automatically.

Movie Digital Image Stabilization: The camera offers Movie Digital IS to compensate for camera shake while recording videos. When Movie Digital IS is enabled, the image is cropped by about 10% to stabilize the image. There are two levels of Digital IS: standard and enhanced. Movie Digital IS cannot be combined with Movie Auto Level. Auto leveling helps to keep the video straight during recording.

Movie Self-timer: You can delay the start of a video recording to allow you enough time to get into the video. The Movie Self-timer delay can be set to 10 seconds or 2 seconds.

Wireless Features: The V10 is compatible with Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, 2.4 GHz), as well as Bluetooth Version 4.2 wireless communication for streaming or other functions. The Canon Camera Connect app (iOS 15.0 or later, Android version varies with device) allows you to shoot remotely from your smartphone, and save images to your smartphone. You can also remotely change the camera settings. Location information from the paired smartphone can be added to images on the camera.

Live Streaming: You can stream video captured by the camera through the Camera Connect app to YouTube Live or Facebook Live or other compatible streaming service. You must be connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth or connected to an access point via Wi-Fi in order to stream from the camera. The camera also has UVC (USB Video Class) support so it works with any device that supports the UVC standard and can act as a web camera without having to download an additional driver.

Battery Information: The PowerShot V10 has a built-in (not user-replaceable) 3.6-volt, 1260 mAh Lithium-ion rechargeable battery. It charges in approximately 1 hour 50 minutes (see note below). With a fully-charged battery, the camera has the following estimated battery life:

    • Recording:
      • Still Images: 290 shots
      • 4K Video: 55 minutes
      • Full HD Video: 1 hour 20 minutes
    • Video Playback: 2 hours and 40 minutes
Note: The charging time is based on use of the Canon PD-E1 USB Power Adapter, available from Canon. Output: 5V 3A / 9V 3A. Charging time will likely be longer with other USB-C power adapters.

Controls: The V10 has convenient controls on the front and back panels. On the front, below the lens, is a prominent Start/Stop button for recording videos and shooting stills. On the back, just below the LCD screen, you'll find controls for power, playback, and settings.

HDMI: The camera has an HDMI Micro output (Type D) terminal for connecting it to a TV or an external recording device with an HDMI cable. The HDMI Output resolution can be set in the menu to Auto or 1080p. In Auto, the images will automatically display at the optimum resolution for the connected TV. HDMI CEC is not supported with the V10.

White Balance: You can choose from the following white balance settings: Auto (Ambience Priority), Auto (White Priority), Daylight, Shade, Cloudy/Twilight/Sunset, Tungsten Light, White Fluorescent Light, and Color Temperature (2500-10000).

ISO Speed: The ISO Speed is set automatically for still photos between ISO 125-12800 in 1/3-stop increments. Manual ISO speed cannot be set. For movie shooting, you can set the ISO speed manually or automatically between ISO 125 and 6400 (1/3-stop increments) for Full HD and between ISO 125 and 3200 (1/3-stop increments) for 4K movies.

Filters: The PowerShot V10 has 14 built-in color filters to let you change the mood and ambience to fit the scene. You can choose from Story Teal & Orange, Story Magenta, Story Blue, Pale Teal & Orange, Retro Green, Sepiatone, Accent Red, Tasty Warm, Tasty Cool, Bright Amber, Bright White, Clear Light Blue, Clear Purple, and Clear Amber. In addition, you can apply an ND Filter (Neutral Density), which reduces light intensity to 1/8 of the actual level, or equivalent to 3 stops, without affecting the colors. This allows you to use slower shutter speeds for a more natural look.
