About the Simplified MFG DAC1

James Ralston

Connect an HDMI source to your non-HDMI-equipped gear

This handy little problem-solver from Simplified MFG lets you connect an HDMI source like a 4K Blu-ray player to receivers, amplifiers, and other devices that don't have HDMI inputs. The DAC1 has an HDMI input for your source, plus an HDMI passthrough output for sending the signal onto your TV. Stereo RCA analog and optical digital audio output jacks let you send signals to your receiver, amp, or home audio system. If your connected source outputs Dolby® or DTS®, this adapter can downmix those multi-channel signals to stereo and pass them along to your audio system.

Product highlights:

Q
Is audio volume controlled by the source? I have an Nvidia Shield Pro.

A
Audio volume would not be controlled by the source device. It would be controlled by whichever amplifier/receiver/soundbar/etc that is connected to the audio output of the MFG DAC1.

Q
Can it SIMULTANEOUSLY send a Dolby Atmos signal via HDMI, and an analog signal via RCA?
chris  Aug 10, 2023
1 answer
A
It will pass Dolby Atmos while simultaneously downmixing for the RCA or optical outputs.

Q
Does this have an actual digital to analog converter? Do you get an analog singal out of the RCA outs?
scott gregory  Nov 03, 2021

A
The input is digital from the hdmi connector which carries both video and analog. The circuitry is able to extract the digital audio signal and output to digital or for me, the analog RCA outputs. This device has the highest quality audio output and video pass through specs over all devices under $500 i could find. I love it. I have a Denon 3805 AVR and used it for a analog Zone 2 experience as most AVRS with 7.1 channels do not have a built-in DAC for zone 2, so digital inputs can never be used for zone 2. A 11.1 or 13.1 AVRs do have hdmi zone 2 or 3 outputs, but STILL require a device to convert to analog. Highly recommend this device. Other $20 or $50 devices are terrible, ruining audio quality. Also this device supports the newer audio and video standards. Hope this helps.

Q
Does the HDMI pass through send audio as well as video? I could use this to send audio over HDMI and stereo RCA simultaneously?
josh  Aug 18, 2021

A
The HDMI output does pass audio as well as video allowing it and the audio outputs to all output audio

Q
does this work with netflicks from a roku 4k device?
nicholas  Jun 27, 2021

A
Yes. That is how I use mine. I think an additional question to ask is where you are sending the 'extracted' audio? That is what this device is really about.
kent  Jun 30, 2021
A
This will work with Roku devices for any of the streaming services they support!
