Great sound in a compact size
JJ from New Orleans, LA on 6/10/2025
Amazing sound for a compact sub woofer. It can sit under my desk and when paired with the Kanto Ora4s and Mac Studio M4, they sound great. Crisp, clear and not at all muddy. These really round out to a great sound.
Pros: Great Sound Compact Easy setup Look great Pair perfectly with the Ora4s

So far so good. A long overdue upgrade from an old Polk Audio PS10. Crisper, punchier bass and the other 4 speakers' sound is much improved as well. The Kanto SUB8 is hidden from view so the scratch and dent's bashed-in grill is of no consequence.

Nice compact little sub and a perfect match for the Kanto Syd that I have. Tight and surprisingly deep bass from a small enclosure. This pair makes a great TV system in my small living room and great for music as well!
Pros: Small size, tight accurate bass and powerful for it's size!
Cons: None that I can think of.

Small but more than adequate for my needs
David from Glen Ellyn, IL on 2/10/2025
I needed to replace a small subwoofer that had died of old age, and which had long been discontinued by the manufacturer. The Kanto seemed like a good replacement, from a size and power perspective. The price tag was also attractive. This was for a family room, where the audio setup is used for daily TV viewing, occasional gaming and sporadic ambient music during social events. I can't say we've put it through its paces yet, but so far the Kanto SUB8 has delivered wonderfully. It's small, unobtrusive, aesthetically pleasing, a breeze to set up, and it does its job perfectly. Would buy again if I had the need, and would recommend without reservation.

CGH from LOUISVILLE, KY on 1/17/2025
Kanto Sub8 performs fantastic with my Q-Acoustic speakers and Marantz Cinema 70 A/V. Tweaking certain adjustments responded as should with low pass frequency and level set matched my speakers. I would never expect to have this performance at this price. As always, Crutchfield is the place for mid and higher end A/V systems.

What the Doctor Ordered
Steven from RALEIGH, NC on 1/14/2025
My goals were modest: I wanted to add more bottom end and round out the sound of my recently set up PSB Alpha 5 powered bookshelf speakers in my not-large home office/music room. I also had to overcome severe serious space constraints in that room. A large subwoofer was not an option. I did a ton of research before settling on the Kanto sub. After realizing it would fit under my desk, with my feet comfortably placed on either side, I decided to give it a try. Well, I'm extremely pleased. This sub is doing precisely what I wanted sound-wise mated with the bookshelf speakers. Audiophiles may turn up their noses at these little subs, but this one is giving me all the bass I need and then some. This thing is a steal for the price. I'll tell you: Between the made-in-Canada PSB bookshelf speakers, which I'm very pleased with, and this Canadian-made Kanto sub, something must be in the water up there when it comes to making high-quality, reasonably-priced powered speakers. And kudos to Crutchfield for the smooth order process and very fast shipment - I ordered Sunday, and it arrived Tuesday.

If you have realistic expectations going in, this is a great sub.
AK from Lonestar State on 8/22/2024
I'm giving this 5 stars because I understood what I was purchasing. If you're expecting room shaking bass, you should look elsewhere. This is an 8" sub.... full stop. It's not going to compare to say a Bose Bass Module 700. What it will do, is help fill in the lower end of your music / audio. It provides good sound quality on the low end and overall I'm very happy with it. I have it paired to an OG set of Kanto Yumi 1's that I've had for ~ 12 years. There was always something missing from them but this has been exactly what they needed to provide the richness of bass that they were missing. You do need to be careful when tuning it, it starts to get sloppy a little beyond 3/4 I have mine set a couple notches beyond 1/2 way for the level and the cross over set to @ 100 hz. I find this is the happy place for the sub. Also, I think the knobs in the back for level and xover are a little loose and could have a tighter feel for finer tuning. All in all, I give this 5 starts for the sale price of 199 which is what I paid for it. At 269, I think it's over priced.
Pros: Good, clean bass. Aesthetically pleasing SQ focus Bang for the buck when on sale.
Cons: Gets sloppy when turned up knobs are a little loose / cheap feeling

Excellent buy! Very satisfied with this little thumper. Rarely find many songs where this sub strains to pump out the lowest frequencies. Only turn to about 30%-50% output level. Not sure my family likes it as much, since it rattles the house pretty good. Great sub, would absolutely buy again. Also, Victoria with Crutchfield was amazing. Excellent advise and def helped me settle on some quality equipment.

Perfects the YU2 Experience
Rob from Minneapolis, MN on 8/2/2024
Last year I finally set up my home office, a goal I had since the Pandemic began. I finished my setup with the lovely matte black Kanto YU2 speakers. I chose them for their excellent balanced sound, warm tone, diminutive size and slick design. While they look and sound perfectly fine for a desktop setup, I had been wanting to round out their sound with a subwoofer. For me, the only choice was the Kanto Sub8 as I figured Kanto products must be tuned to complement each other. Maybe that's correct, maybe that's just me not knowing a lot about audio equipment in general. Maybe both are true... The Sub8 comes with its own RCA cable but I ordered a beefier insulated cable from another site as I read that inadequate cable shielding can sometimes lead to degraded sound. Setup was amazingly easy, requiring just a plug in cable and turning a couple of dials (Volume/Gain and CutOff Frequency). The Low End of the YU2 speakers are 80hz so Kanto recommends 80hz for cutoff and half full volume as a starting point for the volume. After some tweaking, 80hz works best as recommended and just a click less than half volume seems to produce the best matched volume for the YU2s. The combined system sound is rich, full, balanced, tight and punchy with just enough boom. Yes, there are cheaper subs on the market but I am very pleased with the purchase and anyone owning Kanto desktop speakers should really consider this handsome Subwoofer.
Pros: Tight, controlled bass, compact, east to set up, simple controls, quality construction, aesthetically pleasing, perfectly complements Kanto's compact speakers
Cons: I didn't purchase the Sub8 sooner

Great Sub for Music
Doug from HARLINGEN, TX on 7/26/2024
My review is for music only. I have attached a picture of my system. For music - a Marantz nr1200 with the Rotel power amp and 2 B&W 705S speakers. Along with a 10 inch sub that was more for home theater The sub sat way to the left of my system. I wanted a sub that would fit inside my 13 inch high bottom shelves. I ordered 2 of the Kanto sub8. Put both in. And I actually had too much base. Returned 1 Moved the other one out of the cabinet and put it off to the side as there was still too much bass Now it is perfect. My home theater is then Sony setup. I can't speak to how well the Kanto8 would do for that. For music- it is awesome Punchy- not booming. It replaced a REL HT1003. Odd that for music. I prefer the much less expensive and smaller Kanto8 Over the REL And if I want - I can still move the Kanto back into the shelf Crutchfield was great in taking back the one that I did not need. And why I also recommend Crutchfield
Pros: Amount of clear punchy bass with a small footprint

I purchased this Kanto SUB8 Subwoofer to complement my Kanto YU4 stereo Bluetooth speakers. The YU4's have excellent sound, but lack rich bass depth. The SUB8 was available on a good sale, so I gave it a try. Wow! What an amazing and wonderful improvement! The YU4's and the SUB8 produce wonderful and rich sound now. The SUB8 quality is outstanding, and the cross over frequency adjustment and volume controls allow desired sound to be dialed in to your preference. The SUB8 power and volume are both more than sufficient for my musical taste. My space is limited, so I needed a compact unit. While it is compact for a subwoofer, it is still larger than ideal for me, but works fine. Overall I am very pleased and highly recommend the SUB8 for great quality, sound, and value.
Pros: Compact size Very solid quality sound Plenty of power for music High quality solid construction Good adjustment capability Great sound and versatility for the cost
Cons: A bit larger than I'd hoped, but compact

Only had it a few days but I'm pleased so far. I needed a fairly compact and sealed sub for my master bedroom system. I typically play this system at low to moderate levels and wanted a sub to pair up with my Polk ES15 bookshelf speakers. This is mainly to fill out the low end while offering some tight but articulate bass 'punch' when called upon. This Kanto does exactly that. Great sale price, 2 day shipping, and works as I hoped it would. Thanks Crutchfield!

Perfect for my needs.
Mikkel from Frontenac, MN on 2/24/2023
With the guidance of the expert Crutchfield advisor, Ivy, I chose this sub to replace a Polk Audio PSW111 whose amp went bad (I believe another reviewer of the Kanto also had that same PA sub quit). I was looking for quality sound that works on low as well as high volume levels. I also wanted to have a similar smaller footprint, which the Kanto does. I listen to most everything from classical, to jazz, to rock. It adds the warm depth I was looking for at low volume for listening to a Haydn Symphony to cranking up artists such as Peter Gabriel and Rush. I was not looking for big, booming, sound as my music listening space is rather small.
Pros: Adds depth to the sound at pianos and fortes. Small size. Easy to hook up and fine tune.
Cons: I'm not a fan of the grill cover, but that's purely aesthetic.

Perfect supplement to 2-channel music setup
Christopher from LEXINGTON, KY on 11/22/2022
I needed a small sub to replace a Klipsch woofer in my 2-channel music setup, which is in a smallish living room. The Klipsch was a 10" ported model, better suited to home theater and even dialed way back would produce overly boomy, blurry bass. Didn't take me long to settle on this 8" sealed Kanto. It seemed to be right for my music (mostly jazz) and would fit discreetly into my Kallax record storage grid. The sound of the Kanto is tight, much more percussive than the Klipsch and it integrated well with my Elacs, really elevating everything together. Required minimal fine-tuning of crossover / level or placement - I was sitting back and enjoying the music in under 30 min. Bought open-box, which is a no-brainer from Crutchfield.
Pros: Sealed design, tight sound (great especially for acoustic music) Size and appearance (matte black looks high-end but not in-your-face)
Cons: Nothing that I can think of

Good bass in small package
Chozy from Herndon, VA on 8/12/2022
I have Kanto YU6 for a while listening to a wide variety of music mostly from streaming and CD, and I'm missing quite a lot of low-end power and detail. I bought the SUB8 due to its compact size so it can blend in my furniture, good spec, and reasonable price just in case I need to go with two subs for my music system. After a week of listening and rearranging the SUB8 to a good location in my 14x18 room, the sub does make a difference in overall sound quality if I set the SUB8 volume about 3/4 way up, and if I lower the volume setting the bass level drops down really quick. I have the crossover set at 60Hz. I feel like the line level going into the SUB8 is not strong enough to produce low-end detail. I use an audio line level attenuator that boosts the SUB8 line-in so that it closely matches the volume setting of my YU6 speakers and that works really well, adds dimension to the soundstage, and I don't have to crank way up the SUB8 volume at all.

Miguel from Cumming, GA on 6/24/2022
I bought this sub to fill out the lower frequencies of the YU2s that I purchased for desktop speakers. The sub looks great. Nice and solid. Build quality is good. Box was well packed. From an "audio" perspective, the sub itself seems to be lacking some volume....although, it could be the gain from the YU2 that is the issue here (I have not hooked up to a receiver for home theater). When using the onboard DAC, they sounded nice, but the volume had to be turned up considerably. Not sure why that is. I think the sub, if hooked up with a source that had a higher gain signal, would have some pretty decent bass. Side note: I bought this combo to replace an older Boston Acoustics desktop solution and at first I was disappointed because the bass from the sub and the volume of the speakers just wasn't there...however after looking at the specs, the power rating of the BA was much greater than the YU2/SUB8. Taking that into consideration, the SUB8 works just fine.
Pros: Size Looks Connections
Cons: Loudness

We bought this as a replacement for our Polk PSW111 which suddenly started making strange popping noises. We wanted to stick with a compact size and a similar wattage, and the SUB8 was one of the few options around. The sound is a little more boomy than the PSW111, but it actually rumbles the room in a more satisfying way during action scenes and pairs well with our Polk speakers and Denon receiver for dialog and music. Given the price and size, we're very happy with the SUB8.

One good Two Better
James from OCALA, FL on 5/12/2022
Not a bad little sub not at all. I knew I wanted a stero pair of subs to hook up to my Marantz 8006 via the pre outs. I didn't want to brake the bank buying 2 subs cause you can easily dump thousands into a single sub let alone 2. I have always heard a sealed subwoofer works great in a music only system because it tightens up the bass without the port noise. I just bought one at first to see if I'd like it at all, It seemed really cheap and what has led my buying decisions in this life is "you get what you pay for" and it would be easier to return just one. I had the first one a couple of weeks, it was't bad but not perfect either. I could tell where in the room were the was and the sounds coming from it. It was good enough though that I figered I would buy another one and hope for the best. Well I got the second one and it made all the differance, it now souned like all the deep bass was coming right from my Wharfedale Denton's making them sound like a much larger speaker. I set the crossovers to 60 Hz, The Denton's fall off after 45 Hz so I figured that would give me enough overlap. It sounds great and the Dentons sound really good on there own this just made them sound that much better. I hooked the left sub to the left preout of the 8006 and the right to the right using a single rca cable each way. I set the subs in behind the Denton's and off center just enough so the outer edge of the subs woofer was lined up dead center to the mid woofer on the Denton's. I love It!!
Pros: Can't beat it for the money!

Fantastic Subwoofer
Shayne from Burbank, CA on 5/5/2022
Great subwoofer with more than enough bass and power to fill nearly any room size. Testing at every volume level available resulted in zero noticeable distortion or cabinet rattle. This thing is solid and capable of delivering plenty of thunder, with a low-end sound that retains focus and stays punchy without ever sounding too boomy. I paired this unit with my desktop PC setup along with a pair of Kanto YU4s and set the subwoofer phase to 180°, low-pass filter to 80 Hz and the volume level to about 10 o'clock, and the result was fantastic. I may have to pick up another one for my living room TV setup eventually along with a set of YU6s. The auto-on mode is a nice bonus and it is completely silent when powering on and off, making it integrate seamlessly. Its size makes it fit into nearly any space-and the fact that it looks great doesn't hurt either. Anyone looking to fill out their low-end sound with a relatively modest priced subwoofer will be very happy with this purchase. I highly recommend picking this one up!
Pros: Nicely sized, good focused bass, plenty of power, auto-on feature, attractive appearance
Cons: None
