Features
High-Gauss HVFR (High-Velocity Folded Ribbon) AMT Tweeter: The T66 floorstanding speaker features GoldenEar Technology's High-Gauss Reference High-Velocity Folded Ribbon (HVFR) AMT tweeter with a powerful magnet and motor assembly, along with many other internal details, plus a critically finessed wool felt on the mounting plate and elsewhere for clean, clear, and very efficient high frequency response with low distortion. The HVFR AMT tweeter propagates sound waves and moves the air by squeezing it with its accordion-like pleated diaphragm, rather than pushing it as conventional drivers do. Greater efficiency, lower distortion, improved dynamics and superbly detailed sound are the result of this folded ribbon tweeter technology.
Two 4.5" Midrange/Midbass Drivers: The T66 floorstanding loudspeaker is outfitted with two 4.5" midrange/midbass drivers arranged in a D-Appolito array, one above and one below the High-Gauss HVFR tweeter. These cast-basket mid/bass drivers are housed in separate chambers and employ GoldenEar's proprietary Multi-Vaned Phase Plugs (MVPP), improving the drivers' ability to produce exceptional off-axis response for a cinematic soundstage and immersive listening experience.
Built-In Powered Subwoofer + Quadratic Planar Radiators: The T66 houses its own built-in powered subwoofer featuring dual 5" x 9" long-throw quadratic woofers powered by a 500 watt (RMS) / 1000 watt (Peak) DSP-controlled amplifier, plus two 8" x 12" quadratic planar radiators acoustically coupled to the woofers to deliver extended low-frequency response, improved low-frequency impact, and minimal distortion for surprisingly deep, well-controlled, room-filling bass. The two 5" x 9" long-throw quadratic woofers are front-firing, while the 8" x 12" quadratic planar radiators are side-firing (one on each side). You can adjust the output level of the built-in powered subwoofer section independently from the T66's tweeter and midrange/midbass drivers. The advantages of building the subwoofers into the T66 floorstanding speaker are many -
- First, it eliminates the need for external powered subs in the room so you are not having to figure out placement and taking up more space in the room.
- Second, by engineering the subwoofer as an integral part to the speaker, you get far superior integration and blending than can be achieved with separate subwoofers, even when using two.
- Third, the two built-in powered subwoofer sections in a pair of T66 speakers couple better to the air in the room, helping to better deal with the room's acoustics to smooth out the response.
- Fourth, the built-in powered subwoofer sections in a pair of T66 speakers are more powerful and provide bigger bass response than some single and even dual external powered subwoofer systems.
Sophisticated Crossover Design with High-Quality Internal Wiring: The T66 employs GoldenEar's most sophisticated crossover network with bypass-caps subjected to AudioQuest's proprietary PMO (Permanent Molecular Optimization) process to ensures a flat, +9 octave frequency response and absolute clarity. The T66 is internally wired with signal-preserving AudioQuest Perfect-Surface Copper+ wiring that is direction-controlled and employs a Carbon layer for maximizing RF-Noise Dissipation.
Connections: The GoldenEar T66 floorstanding loudspeaker is equipped with two sets of binding post terminals, a Mono-RCA/LFE input, and an AC power cord inlet.
- Dual Binding Post Speaker Terminals: The T66 is equipped with two sets of binding post terminals that allow you to bi-wire the the tweeter/midrange section and subwoofer section in order to reduce current-modulation distortion in the high frequencies. The binding-posts are gold-plated for excellent audio signal transfer and resistance to corrosion, plus include high-quality gold-plated AudioQuest PSC+ jumpers for single-wire configuration. The AudioQuest PSC+ jumpers will need to be removed when using a bi-wire configuration. The binding-post terminals will accept bare-wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connector, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (single or dual).
- Mono-RCA/LFE Input: The mono-RCA/LFE input can be used with your AV receiver or AV preamp/processor to separately feed the discrete "Low Frequency Effects" (LFE) channel into the powered subwoofer section (which then combines with the low bass present separately in the left or right channel signals). Unlike a conventional system, where the subwoofer is driven only by a subwoofer signal, the T66 speaker is driven by the left and/or right channel low frequency signal also. The use of this connection method will allow you to adjust the LFE channel volume level for movie playback from your AV receiver or preamp/processor.
- AC Power Inlet: The T66 comes with a detachable 10' AC power cord (IEC 2-prong) that will need to be plugged into the back of the speaker and into an AC wall outlet or surge protector/line-conditioner for supplying power to the built-in powered subwoofer section. The built-in powered sub will automatically turn on when it senses an audio signal and automatically turn off when no audio signal is present.
Elegant Cabinet Design: Designed for performance and beauty, the T66's tall, slender cabinet contributes to the speaker's three-dimensional imaging. The unique cabinet shape is acoustically purposeful with its narrow front baffle and rearward rake, that both aligns the driver array precisely for a coherent wave-launch directed at ear level at the listening position, as well as results in non-parallel front and rear baffles for better control of internal standing waves. The non-parallel side cabinet walls and slanted top provide the same acoustical performance benefit. An acoustic transparent metal grille magnetically attaches to the front baffle of the speaker cabinet.
Cast Aluminum Base with Rubber or Spike Feet: The GoldenEar T66 features a sturdy and attractive cast-aluminum base employing conical aluminum feet that are easily adjustable from above. The conical feet can be fitted with either steel spikes (best for carpets) or rubber tips (best for tile, wood, or other smooth surfaces that might be easily scratched). Always use the speaker with either the rubber or spike feet installed for optimum performance and maximum stability.
- Dimensions with Rubber Feet: 11.8125" (w) x 49.4375" (h) x 17.0625" (d)
- Dimension with Spike Feet: 11.8125" (w) x 49.8125" (h) x 17.0625" (d)
Placement Options: The GoldenEar T66 floorstanding loudspeaker is designed to allow flexible placement while providing a very large window of sound throughout your listening room. To ensure the best performance possible, observe the following placement guidelines -
- For the most accurate and natural timbre, the speaker's high-frequency drivers should be at approximately ear level. A pair of T66 speakers should form a equilateral triangle between each other and the main seated listening position. To further optimize imaging, turn a pair of speakers inward (toe-in) so they point toward the listening position with their axes crossing just behind it.
- Placing the speaker in a corner will over-emphasize bass and reduce overall clarity. If possible, position the loudspeaker 8" or more from the wall behind the speaker and as much as possible from either side wall. This will ensure better bass performance and optimal midrange clarity. If this is not, use the subwoofer level control on the back of the speaker to adjust for optimum sound in your room.
- When used as surround speakers, the T66 speaker may be located on the side or behind the main listening area. When used on the sides, take care never to locate the speaker forward of the main listening position. If the speaker is placed along the rear wall as surrounds, it is suggested that the speaker be positioned fairly wide apart if possible. For instance, if there is a couch in the center of the rear wall on which the listeners will sit, try to position the speaker wider apart than the couch.

Golden ear T66 sound amazing from my Polk R200s sounds. Crisp clean and sharp much more intense from bookshelf speakers but flat clean in detail is almost flawless. Love these towers and can't wait till I get them broken in
