About the Pangea Audio Vulcan X-Brace Add-On Shelf

Ralph Graves

Add more storage and stability

The Pangea Audio Vulcan audio rack was designed for modular expansion. When you add a new component to your system, simply add another shelf to your rack. This add-on shelf also provides an increased level of vibration elimination. It's made of 3/4"-thick vibration-dampening MDF coated in scuff-resistant vinyl. The 7-inch steel posts help to further minimize unwanted vibrations. And they're stabilized by steel crossbraces.

Features

X-Brace 7" Add-On Shelf: Expand the capacity of your Pangea X-Brace Audio Rack, Vulcan Audio Rack, or Pangea Vulcan TT Turntable Stand with the Vulcan X-Brace Add-on Component Shelf. Thanks to the design of the Vulcan X-Brace shelf with steel side crossmembers, this shelf is extremely stable and strong in addition to being acoustically neutral.

Durable Construction: The dense MDF shelf is wrapped in a special vinyl material in satin black, rosenut, or carbon fiber finish that is very easy to clean and resists scratching, scuffing, and most liquids. Its four steel support tubes feature scratch-resistant and resonance-resistant black or silver sand powder coat paint. The steel side cross-members provide exceptional strength and stability.

Open-Air Design: The open-air design of the X-Brace add-on shelf is great for electronic components. The design maximizes component ventilation and makes it easy to install or remove gear.

Dimensions & Weight: The Vulcan X-Brace Add-on Shelf is 23.75" wide, 18" deep, and 0.75" thick. The width of the shelf between supports and braces is 19.375", while the height between shelves is 7". The shelf can support up to 80 lbs.

Customer Q&A

Q
Can you use this as a single stand in lieu of the rack? Looking to use as a stand for my leg q650c center speaker

A
Tim, yes you can. I use mine as a stand for my turntable

I would think so. You are going to want to do something about the vibration though as it is designed to be screwed onto another one.

A
The bottom of the legs are some what recessed and a threaded to receive another shelf. I guess if your not concerned about scratching a surface from the metal legs, and your center speaker sits low and firm, you should be able to go in this direction.the carbon fiber looks great??

A
Yes

I suppose you could but just keep in mind that the bottom end of those tube legs have no feet or protection to prevent scratching and as this unit is intended for stacking. You could get the casters made by the same company and put them on the bottom or do a DIY thing and create some feet to be placed on the ends.

I used it for my center channel as well, it will work, it is just a little bit low to the ground. If you can angle the speaker up a little bit it should work fine.
timothy  Mar 07, 2022
A
The add-on shelf does not have the pointed feet that come with the bottom of the rack, so you would just have the end of the brace meeting the floor. Might not be terribly stable unless you put it on some kind of furniture coaster or floor protector and not sure what that would do for your sound.
john  Mar 07, 2022
A
Tim: I think you'd be better served with their 'Amp Stand', as it is designed to be put directly on the floor.
michael  Mar 07, 2022
A
You can use it for a single component
paula  Mar 07, 2022
A
I would think so. This rack is insanely sturdy. Try standing on that low shelf. It should hold the weight. Just be careful not to scratch your floor.
melanie  Mar 06, 2022
A
In my opinion, I would suggest not doing that as there is no way to secure the bottom end of the x-braces. A better solution may be to use the vulcan amp stand. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_325VUASBK/Pangea-Audio-Vulcan-Amp-Stand-Black-Black-Posts.html

A
Yes, it will make a stable stand for the center speaker. Plan accordingly for vibration damping at the speaker and at the feet.
