About the Wharfedale SW-10

Neatly balances detail and impact
Neatly balances detail and impact
The Wharfedale SW-10 powered subwoofer offers up low-frequency punch that injects life into your favorite music and movies. The sub's built-in 200-watt amplifier and sophisticated 10" non-pressed paper cone woofer produce high-impact — yet controlled — bass for big booms and subtle musical details alike. And copper-lined vents on the center voice coil keep magnetic distortion down to a minimum and help the woofer dissipate heat for clean, reliable lows.
Simple setup
This sub is easy to integrate into the rest of your system. A line-level stereo RCA/LFE input lets you connect to most stereo or home theater receivers. And back-panel crossover, auto on/off, and phase controls help you dial in the sub to match the room and the rest of your setup.

Features
10" Long-Throw Woofer: The Wharfedale SW-10 powered subwoofer houses a long-throw 10" woofer with a non-pressed paper cone and rubber surround for increased self-damping, improved transient impact and increased structural rigidity. The center vents of the 10" woofer cone are copper lined to reduce the magnetic distortion and improve the heat dissipation.
200W High Power Amp: The long-throw 10" woofer is powered by an optimized, well-engineered 200W (RMS) / 350W (Peak) power amplifier for dynamic, high impact sound at low frequencies when listening to your movie or music soundtracks.
Bass Reflex Enclosure: The 10" woofer is housed in a bass reflex enclosure with a down-firing port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response.
Controls: On the rear-panel of the Wharfedale SW-Series powered subwoofer is a Volume Level, Low Pass Crossover, and Phase Switch to tailor its sound to match the other loudspeakers in your system and optimize its performance for your room type.
- Volume Level: The rotary volume knob controls the output level of the powered subwoofer, relative to the volume of the other speakers in the system.
- Low-Pass Crossover: The low-pass crossover adjusts the high-frequency roll-off of signals sent to the subwoofer. The control is continuously variable from 40 Hz to 150 Hz, and allows you to precisely match the subwoofer's bass production with your system's main left & right stereo speakers.
- Phase Switch: The phase switch allows for the adjustment of the phase of the subwoofer in relation to the speakers used in the system; select 0 degrees (in phase) or 180 degrees (out of phase).
LFE/RCA Inputs: The Wharfedale SW-10 is outfitted with a pair of line-level RCA-type inputs to connect the powered sub to your AV receiver or integrated amplifier.
- LFE Input: Most of today's AV receivers have a line-level subwoofer output (LFE). If your receiver has an LFE output, connect one end of a subwoofer cable (sold separately) to this output and connect the other end of the cable into the powered subwoofer's line-level input labeled "LFE/Right". Set the powered sub's built-in crossover to the maximum low pass frequency (150Hz), since your AV receiver's built-in bass management will handle the low pass frequency filtering.
- Stereo Input: In absence of a subwoofer (LFE) output on your receiver, as an alternative hookup, you can connect Left & Right channel preamp outputs from the receiver to both the "LFE/Right" and "Left" inputs on the powered subwoofer.
Auto Sense: The SW-Series powered subwoofer will automatically turn On when it senses an audio signal. It will automatically go into "Standby mode" after 20 minutes with no audio signal. You can also choose to turn the powered sub On or Off manually from the rear-switch on the back.
Detachable AC Power Cord: The Wharfedale SW-10 powered subwoofer comes with a detachable 6.5' AC power cord that will plug into the back of the powered sub and into an AC wall outlet or surge protector (sold separately - see Accessories Tab).
Placement: Although the SW-Series powered sub may be placed almost anyhwere in the room, Wharfedale recommends that it be placed in front of the listening area and central to the main listening position as possible. The powered subwoofer should be initially positioned approximately 8.0" from the wall. Placing the sub closer to the wall will enhance the bass, while placing it in a corner of a room will increase the bass even further. Moving the subwoofer out further from the wall will decrease bass output.
