Class AD Amplifier: The HiFi Rose RS520 employs a state-of-the-art stereo Class AD Amplifier which combines the benefits of Class A, Class AB, and Class D amplifier technologies without any of the limitations. The Class AD Amplifier uses a new GaN FET material instead of the commonly used Silicon FET to solve the limitations of previous amplifier designs. This Class AD amplifier design dramatically reduces "dead-time" by 1/3, improving linearity to create a near-perfect sound that exceeds the boundaries between digital and analog amplifier technologies. As a result, all you'll hear is a smooth and natural sound from your music.
- Discrete OP Amp: The HiFi Rose RS520 incorporates a discrete operation amplifier that is focused on high open loop gain aimed to achieve low distortion, low noise, low drive, and low offset. In addition, the operational amplifier has a wide bandwidth and power supply range essential for high-quality analog audio amplification, adding a sense of depth to the sound.
- Active PFC: The main reason for applying power factory correction (PFC) is efficiency improvement. By adopting an Active PFC technique, the RS520 effectively delivers 95% power saving efficiency. In addition, it can respond more effectively to a wide range of input power of AC (80-265V), so the power quality can be improved with no audible audio hum noise.
Note: The stereo integrated amp is rated at 250 watts into 8-ohms @ 20-20kHz with 0.05% THD and 2-channels driven (FTC Power Output Rating).
Equalizer: The RS520 features a built-in Equalizer (EQ) that can emphasize or attenuate specific frequency bands of an audio signal. The RS520 EQ is a parametric-type equalizer that can set the frequency band for amplification and attenuation arbitrarily, and can adjust the bandwidth of the Q-Factor for each frequency. Five frequency bands can be set and each can be adjusted +10dB or -10dB.
All-In-One Aluminum Housing: The housing of the RS520, which made with high-durability 6000 class aluminum material, is manufactured by an all-in-one process in which all four sides are produced as one part. The all-in-one manufacturing process is the most ideal method to fundamentally block vibrations that may occur between separated parts, significantly reducing noise waves that can affect sound quality.
ES9038PRO DAC: The HiFi Rose RS520 is equipped with the ESS technology's flagship DAC (digital-to-analog converter) chip, the ES9038PRO. The ES9038PRO has extremely low total harmonic distortion with low noise and high dynamic range, making it one of the industry's best DAC chip. The maximum sampling frequency and bit rate of the ES9038PRO is 32-bit/768kHz with DSD512 and MQA supported. In addition, it is equipped with ESS technology's exclusive jitter canceler to provide exceptional audio clarity.
- MQA: The integration of MQA technology enables you to playback MQA audio files and streams, delivering the sound of the original master recording. MQA is a revolutionary end-to-end technology that captures and delivers master quality audio in a file that's small enough to stream or download. MQA lets you hear your streamed digital music files exactly like the way the artist intended you to hear it when it was approved in the studio.
- Native DSD: DSD is high-resolution digital audio format that uses a single bit to deliver a high resolution signal. Instead of sampling the information several thousand times a second, this single bit samples 2.8 million times a second to generate the audio signal. The result is still a Hi-Res audio signal that clean and pure. The RS520 supports DSD64 (2.8MHz), DSD128 (5.6MHz), DSD256 (11.2MHz), and DSD512 (22.4MHz).
- PCM: The HiFi Rose RS520 also supports linear PCM audio files with a bit depth of 16- / 24- / 32-bits, and a sampling frequency of 8Hz to 768kHz.
- Other File Types: Other supported audio file type include AAC, ALAC, AIFF, WAV, FLAC, WMA, MP3, APE, DFF, DSF.
USB Ports: The HiFi Rose R520 is outfitted with two rear-panel USB-A 3.0 ports and a rear-panel USB-B port. The USB-A and USB-B ports support playback of a variety of audio files including MQA, PCM (up to 32-bit/768Hz) , DSD (up to 22.4MHz), WAV, FLAC, WMA, MP3, AAC, AIFF, ALAC, APE, DFF, and DSF. The USB-A port also support video file playback including ASF, AVI, MKV, MP4, WMV, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 H.263, H.264, H.265, and more (up to 4K).
- USB-B (Audio Only): The USB-B port allows you to connect a Windows PC (7-up) or Mac (OS X) computer for playback of your stored digital music library on the RS520 integrated amp.. A separate USB audio driver will need to be installed on your Windows PC. A mac computer will not require a separate USB driver.
- USB-A (Audio/Video): Both USB-A 3.0 ports support connection of a USB MSC (mass storage class) device - up to 512GB, or HDD (hard disk drive) - up to 10TB. The USB MSC device or HDD must be formatted in NTFS or FAT32. Some HDD's will require an external AC power supply.
Note: There is a third USB-A port (labeled "USB WiFi/BT Dongle") that allows you to add WiFi and Bluetooth support through the included Wireless/USB adapter.
Optional CD Drive: Connecting the optional HiFi Rose RSA780E CD drive (sold separately) to one of the RS520's USB-A 2.0 ports allows you to rip Audio CD's to a connected USB MSC device or HDD (hard disk drive).
SSD (Solid State Drive): The RS520 allows you to connect an external SSD (Solid State Drive) to its bottom panel. It can support SSD's up to 4TB and 2.5" (7mm) thick. Four screws are included for installation of an external SSD (sold separately - not available at Crutchfield).
HDMI Input/Output: The RS520 integrated amplifier is outfitted with an HDMI ARC jack and a HDMI 2.0 video output. The HDMI ARC jack receives an audio signal (2ch PCM only) from your connected TV's HDMI ARC input. This allows you to watch TV, while listening to the audio signal through the RS520 and your connected audio system. The HDMI 2.0 video out lets you transmit a video signal (up to 4K) from the RS520 integrated amp to your TV's HDMI input. You'll be able to watch video from RoseTube, USB-A, and SSD on the big screen.
Digital Inputs & Outputs: The RS520 integrated amp is equipped with an optical (toslink) digital input and output, as well a coaxial (SPDIF) digital input and output. Both digital inputs allow connection of a CD, DVD, or Blu-ray player. The digital outputs let you connect an external DAC, AV receiver, or soundbar. Both digital inputs and outputs support up to 24-bit/192kHz PCM audio (not compatible with Dolby Digital, DTS, or other multichannel surround formats).
Analog Line-Level Input: The HiFi Rose RS520 features one analog stereo RCA line-level input for connection of an external source device with an analog output. The integrated amp does not have a dedicated Phono input.
