Outstanding!
Ryan from WEST HARTFORD, CT on 4/12/2025
I can't say enough about this device. We had been using Olive Musica to play mp3 and internet radio for years. We loved it, but the support fell off and we needed a replacement. The Ultra is everything we wanted. Solid DAC, color screen, mp3 outboard storage, internet radio. Very easy to use. Robust app for smartphone. Constant updates from Wiim. My wife and I both work from home, so this device is running all day and all evening. We really love the sound quality, look, and ease of use. Exactly what we were looking for.
Pros: easy to use, high quality sound, lots of features, great support. Inexpensive!!
Cons: runs a little warm

Great for the Money. Very non-fatiguing sound
John from Advance, NC on 4/9/2025
Not the ultimate, but at this price point, very good. My first time using a streamer and didn't want to go too high end (HiFi Rose, Lumin, etc) . Basically an old school guy. Found it easy to set up. After a week of listening, I thought it could be a little bright or harsh on some upper mid-range vocals (Hard Headed Woman-Cat Stevens, Cross-eyed Mary-Jethro Tull). Also, soundstage not quite as wide as my Oppo SE. But, given the price and the convenience of streaming, very, very good. I'm just streaming from Amazon as of now and found that the sound had good detail and produced a good non-fatiguing sound. Would highly recommend for someone on a budget or wanting to test the waters of streaming.

Good sound, written directions skimpy
Ken from Jamaica, NY on 3/30/2025
Sound is very good. Streaming Radio Paradise is pleasurable. Put CD also thru it and sounds less punchy which is good. Wiim app is not as easy to use as I hoped. Getting to the right place in the app is sometimes guesswork. Even getting to the app itself sometimes is not easy. The use of the clock is as far as I can figure only on when device is on, should be on on or off. Written directions are skimpy again making guess work of how to do stuff. Learning curve for operation is longer than it should be because figuring out use of the device is not easily found. Sound is good so that makes it worth the hassle.
Pros: Sound is good
Cons: Skimpy written directions. App is not easy to access and figure out.

Good , but more than needed
Scott from Wells, ME on 3/19/2025
The streamer is very nice overall and I think Crutchfield is one of the best on line retailers. The Wiim is full of extra features that unfortunately I'll never use though. I have been streaming through my Apple TV via Airplay. I wanted an upgraded DAC and an easier way to stream. I'd have to say that this unit did neither of these things for me. This is probably a good streamer for someone who needs a preamp, but not do much for basic streaming.
Pros: It looks great Lots of features
Cons: It provides the same functionality I had with the Apple TV just more complicated

Nice little streamer/DAC
Benjamin from Broad Run, VA on 3/18/2025
I didn't really need this but I love it. My receiver performs all the functions that the Wiim Ultra does but not as well. I love tidal for their quality of music but there connect is garbage. I get file folders on my receiver and it is not in sync with my use in the car and at work. Wiim has their own interface that pulls music from tidal but you can build your own playlists and it is much more like the actual tidal app I have on my phone and Ipad. The only thing that keeps it from getting 5 stars is the lack of an hdmi out for onscreen display of the music you are playing. That might have been cost prohibitive but I would have paid a little extra for that option.
Pros: The quality of the music when playing high def music is amazing, especially at this price point.
Cons: no video out display for artist, song, and lyrics on your TV.

Great device; brings vintage system into 21st century
Peter from Seattle, WA on 3/3/2025
My new WIIM Ultra works as advertised, connects seamlessly to my vintage Rotel preamp and amp as well as bluetooth out to my headphones. It integrated with my new service TIDAL well and setup was fairly easy. There is definitely a leaning curve to using this unit. It also includes many, many options that I'm starting to learn. I found setting it up and navigating its options not as easy as I'd hoped, but it's all new to me. Hence 4 stars. However, it sounds great, was very well packaged, and seems to be a well built device.

Warren from Staten Island, NY on 2/25/2025
The WIIM Ultra works as advertised, streams music to my receiver. It integrated with my new service TIDAL well and setup was fairly easy. There is a leaning curve and there are many many options and setting and its not as easy as plying a disc, but its all new to me. It sounds slightly better than just using my newer TV connected to my receiver via Toslink to play music from Tidal. It was very well packaged and seem to be a quality built device.

Great deal on great sound
Stephen from MIAMI, FL on 2/23/2025
The "scratch and dent" unit I received was like new in original packaging. It was easy to set up and the sound is amazing. I have the music collection on my Plex server coming in over WiFi and going out through an optical cable to my receiver. This is a huge improvement over letting the NAS handle transcoding and receiving it through the Plex app on Roku. I'm really happy to rediscover my music this way. Kudos to Crutchfield for making this available at a great price.

Great for Vintage HiFi
Daryl from North Bend, OR on 2/18/2025
I was skeptical that the WiiM Ultra would be a good fit in my vintage HiFi setup. I was wrong. It integrated seamlessly, sounds great, and the EQ allows you to dial in the audio playback to work perfectly with whatever components you have. I ran it with three vintage receivers, (McIntosh, Marantz, and Yamaha) into two vintage speakers (JBL and ADS) without any issues. As always, Crutchfield was quick and I had it in two days.
Pros: Cost Connectivity EQ settings

Still trying to get used to it. Not as simple as a turntable, tuner, tape deck, or cd player. Wish it could be shut off. As someone who meticulously researches every purchase before committing, I can confidently say that the WiiM Ultra has exceeded my expectations in every way. Right out of the box, the build quality impressed me. It feels solid and well-constructed, far surpassing what I expected at this price point. The screen is clear and responsive, working exactly as it should without any issues. The interface is intuitive, making navigation a breeze, even for those who aren't particularly tech-savvy. Within minutes, I had everything up and running without any hassle. Price-wise, it offers tremendous value, for what you're getting, it's well worth the investment. Just what I needed
William from Mcmurray, PA on 1/27/2025
I listen to music nearly all day while working and for years, griped to anyone who would listen about diminished fidelity of music in my system. I forever fiddled with tone controls trying to extract more detail and tried multiple streaming services and devices - all to no avail. I sort of resigned myself to the belief that I was losing my hearing in my late 50s. One of my kid's audio engineer friends suggested that an upgraded streamer might help and I landed on this one because of its top-notch reviews (honestly everywhere online) and price. I'm happy to report that I am not losing my hearing: This device is amazing and brought detail that I knew was there to my listening experience. No complaints at all - the WiiM Ultra is exactly what I needed. It arrived promptly from Crutchfield and was a snap to set-up. I look forward to many more years of music (before my hearing really does go). Thanks, Crutchfield!

Exceptional product at an amazing price point
Jeff from Dagsboro, DE on 1/26/2025
I was looking for a streamer for my system. I own a Denon AVR X4700 receiver I purchased ( Crutchfield) a year or so ago as a pre-amp for my 24 year old Denon AVR 5800. My speaker set up are Polk tower LSiM705s ( Crutchfield) with an additional set of Aperion super tweeters. I was looking at the Eversolo A10 but when I saw the reviews of the WiiM ultra at 1/10 the cost I decided to give it a try. I will say its internal DAC sounds better than the Denon gear. I am amazed at how easy it was to use, and the phone app just makes for an even better user experience. I had also purchased the Wii mini puck from Crutchfield last year and now I am able to sync my Ultra to it within the app and play on my homes second system. Small box, great sound, tight integration with other Wii product , fantastic app and extremely reasonable pricing.

a work in progress, but still worthwhile.
Monte from Cary, NC on 1/22/2025
I wanted to use the WiiM Ultra to improve the sound from my Samsung smart TV to my Yamaha sound bar. The only audio output from the TV is optical. I get the error message "Unfortunately , the DTS input format is not currently supported." I can only hope that a future firmware upgrade will address this shortcoming. I was able to improve the sound from an older Sharp TV to a Marantz amp & speakers by using RCA cables into the WiiM, although there is a sight delay, forcing me to mute the TV speakers to avoid an echo. The supplied remote is very limited, and only used to turn the WiiM on. Other adjustments are done more easily via the cellphone app. I did notice an audio improvement when inserting the WiiM into the above system, as well as when using the wifi streamer instead of a bluetooth streamer from my iphone.
Pros: great sound with good adjustability great selection of streaming providers excellent support with ongoing upgrade list wide choice of input & output ports
Cons: remote could be a lot better optical input needs work app should offer the same adjustments as home screen

Incredible Value
Roy from Kansas City, MO on 1/21/2025
Been at this audiophile "hobby" for nearly two decades. I've owned a lot of great gear and plenty of duds. Given that, I didn't have high expectations for a $329 streamer. After living with the WiiM Ultra for a couple months, I am of the opinion it is perhaps the highest value product I have experienced. And that's despite the fact that I use only a fraction of its feature set. I do not even use its internal DAC. I use it solely for streaming Qobuz to an external DAC. What I have concluded makes this streamer exceptional is its parametric EQ and room correction features. It has been a game changer for my system. I used to believe room correction was for those who don't understand the principles of room setup and speaker placement. Even after my first couple uses of the WiiM's room correction, that remained my sentiment. It wasn't until I played around with the room correction settings (Harman vs B&K curve, max gain etc), and made minor adjustments to the results based on listening that I finally "saw the light," or, should I say.heard it. The Ultra and its EQ features elevated my system and its enjoyability to a whole new level I didn't realize was possible. The impact is as profound as going from something like $2K speakers to $5K speakers, or a cheap AVR to a pricey integrated amp. In an industry full of overpriced products, the Ultra is worth its asking price for its streaming and EQ alone. Other streamer brands should be on notice because the Ultra

Good at first, but audio issues within a month
Riley from Billings, MT on 1/19/2025
This was great for a short period of time. First, the good: The decide arrives with basically everything you need to set it up out of the box (except the two AAA batteries for the remote). I love the small form factor and the easy setup. I really like the Spotify integration (until it got glitchy). The screen is a nice touch, but it's small and not very useful in a larger room. When I first got it, the sound quality was surprisingly good (this is where the bad comes in). Unfortunately after around a month of use, the device developed a very loud hiss in the audio. No troubleshooting solved the problem and I'm assuming it's something inside the electronics that is failing already. I also found that the Spotify integration became really glitchy with the latest firmware update. I will be returning this unit and I'm not sure whether to give another one a try or move to a different streamer.
Pros: Small footprint, easy setup, nice features
Cons: Audio problems within a month

Simply Wonderful! Great unit!
Alexander from SAN FRANCISCO, CA on 1/18/2025
Purchased this to replace my Wiim Pro. The Pro is also a good streamer but I wanted the USB out on the Ultra to connect to my external DAC to compare against the coax out connection. The USB out sounds great as I noticed more clarity, definition with instruments and the soundstage had more depth and height. The HDMI ARC feature was great as well to hook up to my TV. The unit switches automatically between streaming music and HDMI ARC for the TV. Love the unit and Crutchfield's fast shipping and service.

Using this primarily for headphones at night with hi-rez FLAC library. Decent app, excellent sound quality, and very nicely made at a good price. I was having an issue with the USB drive I was using (SanDisk Ultrafit 512 GB) where only one Android device could find the tracks. I swapped the drive for a SanDisk SSD and all works perfectly. Wiim customer support was amazing. They really took the time to help me via email over several days. I'm delighted with Wiim and this streaming player. Highly recommended. Steven from Manheim, PA on 12/29/2024
This is a great streamer with loads of input options and it sounds great. However as a stand alone preamp it fell a little short for me, even though it has lots of EQ adjustments. The room correction didn't really seem to help me get "my" sound. I am happy with the sound after feeding the signal through my vintage Marantz 2235b receiver preamp to my Carver power amp. The headphone amp is a weak point as it just didn't sound very good. I had better luck with bluetooth headphones. I highly recommend this product and would buy it again.

A Miata for music!
Harvey from Golden, CO on 12/26/2024
Several years ago Road & Track magazine ran a comparison of ten high performance cars spanning 50 years or so. The winner was a 62 Shelby Cobra that would probably fetch several million dollars. They still recommended that you buy a Mazda Miata. That car would provide all the usable driving pleasure we need. My WiiM Ultra is my audio Miata. I can sit back and enjoy the countless roads of music at a Miata-like price.
Pros: The combination of the Wiim with TIDAL allows me to easily access some long forgotten music from my life. I can now put my CD collection in a safety deposit box for Alien civilizations to find in the future!

WiiM Ultra - Brings Touch Screen and more to WiiM Audio
Marc from ROCKVILLE, MD on 12/13/2024
I purchased the WiiM Ultra from Crutchfield during an amazing Black Friday Sale, suggest you look for a similar sale promotion for the Ultra. I already own WiiM Mini, Pro Plus and Amp so adding the WiiM Ultra was super easy. The Quick Start Guide is really light on information. You can download both the Quick Start Guide and the User Manual here: https://www.wiimhome.com/support/wiimUltra Now you might think that a product such as the WiiM Ultra that features a touch screen would include information on how to use the touch screen for your specific preferences and needs. Nowhere in the WiiM Ultra Quick Start Guide or the Owner's Manual will you find information on how to navigate the touch screen. By default, the WiiM Ultra's touch screen will display the album cover art for the artist and music, when streaming. But wait, there's got to be more right? Yes, but you won't find any instructions in the documentation on how to tailor the touch screen. Having tried the following: searching the WiiM Home app and the WiiM Remote Control buttons and pressing and holding the WiiM Ultra's single volume control knob only results in having to go through the Setup functions again (thankfully any saved favorites are not lost when you do this) I was ready to give up. But then, in a moment of inspiration I swiped right and was rewarded with a VU meter (single meter) display. Swiping left displayed, in order, Setup, Input, Output, EQ and Favorites settings. Success! Now you know too.
Pros: Touch Screen (once you know the secret of how to tailor the screen display), Phono stage preamplifier for MM or MC cartridge, USB (can be configured to be used as either an input or an output), HDMI ARC, Optical (both input and output are provided), and lots more cool WiiM stuff.
Cons: The digital audio stream from the WiiM Ultra has enough jitter that this affects the clarity of the audio. Using headphones I could hear what can be described as smearing of the transients, especially percussion sounds. There is fix for this that is inexpensive. Take the digital audio from the Ultra's USB (output) and send the signal to a Digital-to-Digital converter such as the SMSL PO100 Pro which re-clocks the signal. Then send the re-clocked signal to your amplifier or DAC via optical.

Can't go wrong with a Wiim Ultra!
Kevin from Loveland, CO on 12/10/2024
First and foremost let me get this out of the way. Randy from YouTube channel cheap Audio Man is a very evil person! Saw this a while ago as one of his recommendations as well as other YouTubers pushing a very cheap audio streamer dac and preamplifier. Like most people that have mastered the critical thinking skills needed to navigate the trepidation Waters of the internet, I was very skeptical and almost turned off by the over the top glowing reviews. After taking the bait and ordering up my unit I was left in awe when the unit arrived. Simply hooked up a pair of speakers, which happened to be Klipsch kg 2.5, added a Cambridge audio cxa85 version 2 Amp, and continued to attempt to pick up my jaw off the floor for the next 3 days. I now have two of these WiiM Ultra streamers thanks to Randy! My nightly sessions of watching ridiculously bad Netflix movies are over with. I am now discovering a whole category and catalog of music I had left in the dust many years ago. I even dug out an old Rega p12 out of the basement and was pleasantly surprised with the budget phono stage in this unit. If you want a great combo streamer and integrated amplifier, purchase the WiiM ultra, hook it up to a modestly decent AB class amp like the Cambridge audio, pair it with some decent sensitivity speakers and rock your world! This combo is not only a minimalist approach but is one my wife is enjoying as well. This has to be the Best Buy in hi-fi for the year. Thanks Crutchfield! Awesome product
Pros: Inexpensive, dead quiet, highly dynamic, UI is continually updated, DC trigger in/out. Can be used as a preamplifier. Android and iOS apps. Sleep and alarm functions. Decent full color diaplay...albeit for smaller rooms for viewing. HDMI eArc functionality. Includes cables needed.
Cons: Thin sounding phono stage. "Room correction" process seems to degrade sound in both my rooms with different system components (amps & speakers)

Good streamer but beware of the HDMI input
TT from Anaheim, CA on 12/9/2024
The reason for 4 stars is because the HDMI input was misleading( or may be I am not well informed). I planned to use the HDMI input for my Sony Blu-Ray player ( for SACD and DVD audio disc) . It turned out that the HDMI imput only support a TV HDMI ARC and not just any HDMI output . I confirmed this with the Wiil support tele line. My Sony player has a coaxial digital out, so I am going to use that with one of mine unused DAC and output RCA/line into the Wiim. I would like Crutchfield to mention that in the spec. section so people don't make the same mistake like I did. As far as the Wiim streamer itself, it works as described and the Wiim app is quite easy to use. Next I planned to attached my USB flash drive where I store my music library. I hope I don't encounter any difficulty

Very High Value Streamer!

The WiiM Ultra is a very high value Roon Ready Streamer that does everything right except pass Native DSD, converting it instead to hi-res PCM. Five stars if this gets upgraded, for sure. I am running it USB out to a Matrix S-PDIF 3 and on via i2S to a PS Audio DS DAC, with resulting extraordinary sound quality.

Great streamer if you keep your expectation in check
Crutchfield customer from CYPRESS, TX on 12/9/2024
Better than I've expected. Of course, I've bought it for its streamer capability and found out it has a Phono input, albeit it's not high-end, but it works for my situation. So one less cable and an external preamp to clutter the area :) I've added a DAC for Wiim's USB-out so all output is out from this to Cambridge Audio 851A's XLR input then to the Polk R200. One word, AWESOME!! Shipping information had a hiccup but quick conversation with Cammie, sorted all out. Thank you Cammie! I've came for audio equipment, but customer service is what keeps me coming back to Crutchfield.

Excellent, sounds real nice-like!
Andrew from Jupiter, FL on 12/8/2024
The unit delivers very accurate and balanced sound with great dynamic range. The internet tuner works flawlessly, and the onboard DAC decodes the fiber optic input well (we've our TV through that port, sounds great and subtle ambient sounds are well pronounced along with dialogue). The setup is simple and concise, no hassles involved. We're very satisfied with this acquisition, it serves us well. Highly recommended!
Pros: Streaming speed and clarity DAC quality Ease of setup

Richard from Camdenton, MO on 12/8/2024
Nice build quality and I am enjoying the display. I didn't realize the display can function as a clock when in standby mode, which is a handy feature for me. Absolute super value at the Black Friday sale price. I am only using this as a streamer and have it hooked up to an external DAC, also with Sabre chip set. I already owned a couple of WiiM mini's, and I am not hearing a significant sonic improvement over the WiiM mini running through the external DAC. I am still sorting out how I like the room correction feature, but seems to work OK, particularly with setting a base line for frequency adjustments.

Shane from West Palm Beach, FL on 12/4/2024
This is my 2nd steamer, and while I admit the first was a lower end device that did not have a screen, the WiiM ultra is better in every way. Setup was easy, the unit came with a manual that was easy to understand, going through the setup was very intuitive ans logical. The audio quality is great and I have tried it on several amplifiers, Sony HT receiver, JBL HT receiver and NAD amplifier. The steamer sounds great, subwoofer output works beautifully.. and the setup and phasing with my SVS ultra bookshelf was easy.. Perfect for someone who want to enjoy great sound without breaking the bank. I have it setup to steam Tidal and Amazon music ??

Very Serious Looking
John from Belington, WV on 12/3/2024
I purchased this primarily because it has the capability to code RAW phonograph signal input outside of the standard CD parameters and digitize the signal for my recording software, GoldWave. I spoke to one of the hardware techs and was given a link to download a patch(Beta) for windows. This is good. The package was pristine and the encoder was solid in looks and feel. I only want to set up this cabling and arrangement once so I waiting for some parts. When everything is assembled on my end, I have an open invitation to call back to the tech at Crutchfield to have them walk me through setting this device up and finding it limits...I will edit with more
Pros: Came well packaged as usual

Cons: Couldn't setup my two Ultras with Google Home. Yet, my four WiiM Amps set up with it no problem. Strange.

Garrett from Brooklyn, NY on 12/3/2024
Was looking for a solution to stream music wirelessly throughout my apartment, both from streaming services as well as my turntable. I've used Sonos for years but was becoming more and more frustrated with their increasingly buggy app and disconnection issues. Have only had the WiiM Ultra for a few days, but so far it's been exactly what I was looking for. Have connected it to three of the Audio Pro A10s in different rooms, and will be connecting it to Kanto bookshelf speakers as well once they arrive. Device is small and sleek, looks good in my media console above my turntable.
Pros: Easy set up Slick design

Wow! So far I am quite impressed!
Rob from Billings, MT on 12/2/2024
I have been using the WiiM Ultra for a couple of days, and so far I am very impressed. This pre-amp and streamer allows me to run all of my A/V items through the WiiM and into my Yamaha receiver. I really enjoy the convenience of streaming Spotify and Amazon Music through the same device as well as my TV and turntable. The only thing I'm not super stoked about is the app. There are quite a few customizable features, but it's not infinitive on how to use them. There isn't a proper manual in the box and the "quick start" guide doesn't offer any help. Beyond that, I'm really enjoying the WiiM Ultra and glad I've added it to my home audio system.
Pros: Sounds good, easy to set up, plenty of versatility, compact footprint, and looks good.
Cons: App isn't the most user-friendly, built-in screen is hard to see across the room.

Antonio from Lithia, FL on 12/2/2024
It's a great value if you're looking into hi-res streaming. I purchased this item and I also own the Bluesound Node 2i. I'll give an advantage to the Wiim DAC and the overall unit due to the screen and customization. Out of the box it did not sound as well as the Bluesound, I had to use the apps EQ to get it to shine. I did not have to do that with the Bluesound. I also find the app on the bluesound a bit more refined. But overall the Bluesound cost me almost $600 and the Wiim less than half and performs overall better.
Pros: Great value
Cons: The app could be nicer

So good at ANY price
Adrian from Millstone Twp, NJ on 11/29/2024
Big fan of Wiim and this deal was TOO good to pass up. Crutchfield as ALWAYS, delivers! The device is as advertised, versatile, compact and sounds great at ANY price. The screen to me is a bonus and the overall build is TOP NOTCH. It punches WAY above it's price. Going to try some up market DACS to see how big a difference it makes but honestly so far so good with the stock version. Subwoofer integration and crossover is a great add and worth the price of admission. All of the ins and outs make it a great hub for me. Going to try a turntable and use it as a pre -amp. Haven't tried the HDMI in but I will soon. It even has a serviceable headphone out that I used with a variety of headphones with good results! Jury still out on the room correction but I expect that to improve over time...but it has ROOM CORRECTION! Come on! Wiim Ultra is THE BEST DEAL IN AUDIO and I am a fan. Sonos better step up their game...still use their stuff but the numbers aren't making sense anymore.
Pros: Versatile inputs and outputs, even HDMI in! GREAT app with frequent updates Multi room with other Wiim products Subwoofer cross over and gain control Headphone out VALUE for dollar is unmatched Room correction! VU meter is cool (hope they do more options with the screen)
Cons: Screen is a little small but serviceable No pre amp outs You have to really nit pick at this price to find many cons

A great streaming preamp with room EQ
Craig from Houston, TX on 11/27/2024
This is a great streaming preamp that can be used in many ways. For years I have wanted an affordable preamp option, everything I found was four figures or more in cost. As soon as this was announced I pre-ordered it. I've been using this for 4 months now and it has been reliable and allowed me to build a great system with this as a central hub for CD, turntable, and streaming with a screen. On top of that, the auto room EQ works well for me and I actually prefer over my previous DIRAC system, maybe due to what DIRAC was doing with the phase correction. I just prefer straight EQ to take out the bass boom in the small room. I have the Ultra going digital out straight into a GaN digital PWM amp, so I don't even bother choosing a DAC. Wiim is great at updating software and listening to users. I don't like the lack of Airplay support, but I just use Roon instead. The phono amp sounds fine to me. I am not critical listening to vinyl but I don't feel like there is any problem with the sound when I listen to records. This setup is the best I had in a difficult room after 5 years of trying different configurations.
Pros: - Great sound - Versatile - Screen - Fast and functional auto room EQ - Great software - Reliable - Very affordable for what it does
Cons: - Lack of Airplay support (but can just plug in a Wiim Mini as an input to fix that)

This is such a great value for the money. I wanted to give streaming music a try but did not want to spend $1,000+ on a device that could be obsolete in a few years. So far I have been really impressed with the sound quality. I use it to stream Tidal and play FLAC file from my NAS server. Some say the user interface is confusing, but after playing with it for a few minutes, it becomes second nature.
Pros: Price Ability to interface with a lot of online services Can play files from local network attached storage

Source for my Kii Threes
Peter from Leander, TX on 11/25/2024
I'm re-installing my Kii Three active speakers after a repair and update by the factory (excellent service, by the way) , and so my faithful Arcam SA30 and KEF R3's will no longer be needed. The Kii's are controlled by a Kii controller with useful but insufficient inputs; I want to play LP, FM tuner, Roon and three HDMI sources (Apple TV, Dish and BD player). So I bought a Wiim Ultra and hooked it up to the SA30 via the optical input, installed the Wiim Home App on my iPhone and tried out the digital sources. Best to check operation with a known system before replacing it with the Kii's. Everything worked first time; it took a little while before the Roon server saw the Wiim, but it did see it and then worked immediately. Roon is the highest quality source I have - the server has both my CDs and most of my vinyl in its database. Wiim Ultra lets you select digital output sample rate and bit depth; I chose 192 K and 24 bit. Wiim sounded - casual listen - the same as the SA30 direct. Similarly seamless with Dish and Apple TV. Haven't tried the analogue inputs yet, and won't be using the Wiim Room Correction because the Kii's are almost immune to room effects. Overall, very pleased indeed with the Wiim Ultra. Highly recommended for accuracy, ease of use and installation, and value for money. I'll be trying the analogue inputs soon, but from pro reviews I doubt there'll be a problem.

Amazing little box that does so much! Adding high quality audio services to my sources meant I wanted a way to play them without a loss of quality. This little box does an incredible job taking whatever I throw at it - Plex, Apple Music, URL streams - and turning them into beautiful sounding enjoyment. It created a boost for my TV too. With this currently on sale, too, it's honestly a no brainer if you're thinking about it.

Works well, sounds great
Calvin from Boulder, CO on 11/21/2024
This replaced an old Squeezebox Touch, which Logitech no longer supports. The Ultra is a major improvement - it obviously has a newer, much higher quality DAC and also multiple inputs and outputs, including Bluetooth. It retains much of the functionality of the Squeezebox that I liked, with the advantage that one can access internet radio without being connected to a server. I'm also using this as a Roon endpoint and, like the Wiim Pros that I have, it plays well with Roon, unlike some other brand that I've used that will remain nameless. Setup was a no-brainer and took about 10 minutes. The firmware updated immediately thereafter. The "quick guide" that comes with the Ultra is pretty basic, but the full manual is available in the app and also on the Wiim website. The sound quality of the sources I've played from this (and the Wiim Pros) is great. The touchscreen is a nice feature and works well; it's a quick way to access presets and some other functions without going through the app. The Wiim app is pretty straightforward, although there is a slight learning curve as with any app. Being able to access Qobuz and Roon directly from the app is very convenient. Overall very happy with the unit. Crutchfield service is great, as always. Note that this thing comes packed in a bombproof box and includes good quality power, HDMI, optical and RCA cables. It is nice to see new equipment with a built-in (not wall wart) power supply.
Pros: Ease of setup, Roon compatibility, sound quality, number and type of I/O connections, Bluetooth option, no wall-wart power supply!
Cons: Could have options for touchscreen backgrounds in addition to brightness.

Good for the Price
Roman from Dallas, TX on 11/17/2024
After seeing raving reviews for WiiM Ultra, I decided to choose it as my streaming source for 2-channel listening. Ultra's low price makes it almost unbeatable in the field of value Hi-Fi streamers. But after testing, I couldn't join the WiiM fans pack. Does Ultra offer great value for the price? Absolutely! The best on the market, by far! Look what it offers: - support for dozen digital streaming services from Spotify to TuneIn and anything in between; - Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Amazon Music Cast, ChromeCast Audio, Amazon Music Cast, DLNA; - all possible input and output options, including HDMI ARC; - remote control (man, is that handy!) - front display (its value is questionable, but it sure does look cool). But does WiiM offer equal or better sound quality, as some more established brands, like BlueSound or Cambridge Audio? No it doesn't. Without equalization turned on, Ultra's sound is flat and lifeless. With EQ enabled, it produces more interesting sound, but to my taste that sound is too artificial and digital. Built-in EQ is just a bunch of digital frequency filters that color the sound to owner's choice, but it remains just that - sound coloration. Cambridge Audio MXN10 beat Ultra hands down in sound quality . WiiM software in my experience was also not very stable. Initial setup was very troublesome. After that, Tidal kept losing connection to WiiM, while connection to other streamers remained stable. WiiM Ultra offers good value, but
Pros: Everything you need is included in the box: - RCA cable; - optical cable; - HDMI cable; - remote control. Just insert batteries and start listening. Bluetooth voice remote (this is huge). Diverse options for music streaming. Feature-rich WiiM Home app.
Cons: Sounds cheap. Room correction is a joke. Front display is too small to be taken seriously. You won't see much on it from 7+ ft distance.

First step towards upgrading from Sonos to a true digital preamp, with performance that is outstanding at this price-point. The flexibility for both local sources (with plenty of inputs), ability to easily navigate audio files on local NAS without a mediating database server, and the full range of internet streaming (especially like the ability to enter a direct stream URL!) makes this unit shine for me.

Basically the Model T of Streaming DACs
Nicholas from Duluth, MN on 10/30/2024
My main objective was to find a device that could serve as a Chromecast Audio replacement and also stream FLAC files from a NAS, as I recently happened to find a mint cond. power amp (NAD 214) that was essentially a clone of the corresponding unit in the NAD 317 integrated amp that I've been rocking since 1997, and having vertically bi-amped them, I wanted to see just what sort of quality I could get out of my system (speakers are Usher CP-6381s). I. Have. Been. Thrilled!!! Not only did this give me exactly what I was looking for, but the ARC input was the perfect solution for seamlessly integrating my TV, I don't even have to bother switching inputs anymore and almost never even need my main integrated amp remote anymore except for occasional master volume adjustments. I hooked up the CD player (largely ornamental at this point since the entire library is in FLAC) to the TOSLINK connection, my turntable to integrated phono amp (!), plugged in Ethernet, and after a quick firmware update out of the box, I was off to the races. Everything worked with no or minimal setup, even my NAS autoloaded. With this purchase, I was able to save several hundred bucks vis-a-vis the other streaming DACs I was looking at, while decluttering my system by ditching stuff like my old standalone phono amp, CCA, various converters, etc., plus of course my old DAC, which I can now move over to a USB connection on my PC, for a knock-on benefit. Sound is huge and dynamic across genres. Love it.
Pros: Connectivity Price Sound quality Footprint
Cons: Literally my sole complaint is that you can't queue tracks from other albums to play next in the WiiM software, a minor software feature which I presume will be addressed by an update in due course.

Great streamer
Chris from Nipomo, CA on 10/27/2024
The WIIM Ultra is an excellent streamer for a great price. I have it connected to my Krell preamp via a Cambridge DAC, and the sound is truly fantastic and non-fatiguing. I like the sound to the built-in DAC, but in the end decided to use an external DAC. I tried all three types of connections with the DAC: optical, coax, and USB, and for sound quality the USB and coax appear to be about equal; so I used the USB for the WIIM, the coax of the DAC for a CD transport, and the optical for a DAT. Yes, I still use one of those! I like the interface for the WIIM. It is intuitive and uncluttered, and the iPhone app is simple to navigate. Room correction was fun to try, but "no correction" in my room seemed to work better. The appearance of the WIIM is nice, and it blends in with the other equipment I have (Adcom, Carver, McIntosh). I haven't tried a more expensive streamer, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I am pleased with the WIIM for the price. It does everything I wanted it to do. I don't use Airplay, so that was not an issue with this unit. I stream music around my house with my Macintosh using Airfoil. The connection from Airfoil to the WIIM is perfect. I'd highly recommend the WIIM Ultra to my friends. Great price for something that does so much.

Needs a weight it vibrates so bad. Souunds great
Michial from San Bernardino, CA on 10/22/2024
Highs were a little bright the 1st few times listening to it. I put my hand on it to see how warm it gets and can't believe how much it vibrates with the music. I'm guessing that is why my Node 2i has that rubber coating all over it. In 40 plus years I've never needed to place a weight on a component before although I've seen a lot of people do it. So I ordered a stainless steel door stop with a runner bottom online and problem solved. Changed to a different filter on the DAC and it sounds better than my Node did now. I like the software better too. I grew tired of the BluOs software constantly being screwed up by their unnecessary updates anyways.
Pros: Sounds great, better software than my Node had, zero problems getting it updated and running.
Cons: Vibrates almost as much as my studio monitors. Placed a weight on it and problem solved.

So I was using a Microsoft surface pro for my streamer for over a year. After watching a grip of reviews about the WiiM ultra I decided to pull the trigger to hear what's all the hubbub. So I have never heard anything beyond my tablet so I never knew what I was missing. The WiiM ultra is a game changer for me. I didn't think I will be able to tell the difference in sound but I was blown away. It's connected to an old Parasound preamp and I'm using it strictly as a streamer. Excellent streamer/DAC for the price
Dan from Vermont on 10/21/2024
An excellent streamer/DAC for the price. The Ultra's very slick software locked onto my Tidal, Qobuz and Amazon Music streaming accounts without a hitch, and it found and plays the ripped FLAC files on my networked hard drive. Perhaps best of all is the Room EQ feature. With a few clicks on my iPhone using the Wiim Home app, the Wiim software analyzed the acoustics of my listening room using the iPhone's built-in microphone and created an EQ curve that makes everything sound way better than listening un-EQ'ed. Also, the Ultra's Bluetooth 'input' works very well. Within seconds, I was streaming SiriusXM from my iPhone to the Ultra. As for sound quality, I am using the Ultra in a secondary system, which makes it impossible to compare it directly to my much more expensive separate DAC and streamer (Auralic Vega G2 and Auralic Aries G2). I can say that the Ultra makes toe-tapping music, particularly after I ran the room EQ feature I mentioned above. The one negative I have encountered so far is the Ultra's physical volume pot. It feels cheap and does not turn smoothly. But this is a relatively minor quibble in the overall scheme of things, particularly since 99% of the time I will control the volume from the Wiim Home app.
Pros: Slick software that works seamlessly with multiple music streaming services, FLAC files on a networked hard drive, and via Bluetooth.
Cons: Cheap physical volume pot that does not turn smoothly.

Low to mid fidelity component
Lee from TRAVERSE CITY, MI on 10/19/2024
The WiiM Ultra didn't pass my first demo song, Ther Oh Sees Upbeat Ritual. The song has 2 drummers and the WiiM couldn't differentiate the drums from one another. They just sorta blended into a percussive mud. It sounded real bad. I knew within 10 seconds it wasn't the component for me. If you have a legit hifi system, you'll hear issues with this. If you have a lower end system, I'm sure it'll be fine. But honestly, based on my listening experience, I'd just plug an Alexa dot into my amp for a similar quality.
Pros: Pretty screen
Cons: Low fidelity output Can't differentiate rhythm sections, muddy rendering of drums

Great Hi Res Music Streamer

Excellent Hi Res streamer ! Connections for everything, great touch screen, and most importantly excellent sound quality with its high quality DAC. Easy to set up and control with the WiiM app which is also excellent. Works with all the main streaming services. All this wrapped in a small and attractive package with an affordable price. Working with Crutchfield is always great with knowledgeable and helpful people plus lifetime tech support. I'm very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this excellent streamer.

Good But Not The Best For Me
Aaron from Eden Prairie, MN on 10/15/2024
I needed a streamer with USB out. The firmware is still buggy. I added new tracks to my collection and the Wiim shows them as playing but no sound. I go to older tracks and they play fine. Navigating songs on the touchscreen is not a good experience. I gave it an extra star because to my surprise it sounds better streaming to my DAC than my MacBook Air with Audirvana streaming to the same DAC. My dream Wiim is an aluminum case digital out steamer only, ethernet in, audiophile grade parts, top of the line internal clock, bit perfect, no screen, no DAC, 2 USB outs, optical out, digital coax out. Take my money please!!!
Pros: Has USB out, not using my computer for streaming, sounds better than I thought
Cons: Paying for features I don't want, buggy

Wow. Plug and Play HiFi that works wonders!
James from Trappe, MD on 10/14/2024
Fantastic. Easy to set up, quality Sabre DAC chip, I love the room correction and EQ options (parametric and graphic) if you choose to forego the room correction. It has a sub out, multiple connections - this thing is SO versatile. I've used it to stream Tidal and Qobuz as well as podcasts and Audible. I'm running it to a Musical Fidelity A1 powering KEF LS50 Meta's and an SVS SB3000 sub, and even though the power from the A1 is a bit light for those hard-to-drive KEF speakers it all works well together for me. Love it so much I bought a second for a spare room rig. Highly recommended.
Pros: Ease of use, great sound, well thought out app.
Cons: None so far.

Wowed by Wiim
Budget Audiophile from Laguna Niguel, CA on 10/12/2024
The Wiim Ultra is exactly what I was looking for! It has an amazing number of features and functions packed into a small device. First, it acts as a network streamer so the audio quality is much better than just streaming Bluetooth from your phone. Second, it has a very high quality DAC which makes streaming music sound as good or better than most CDs. Currently, I'm using Amazon music and plan to try Tidal soon. The Wiim app shows the quality of the playback for each song and it's interesting to see if I can hear the differences. I really like the EQ features to easily adjust the sound. Other notable features include the ability for this to act as a preamp so you can plug in a variety of different devices. At this price point, it has no clear competition since you would probably need to spend at least 2x to 3x more to get any marginal improvement.

Stephen from Portland, OR on 10/12/2024
This is an amazing piece of gear. It handles so many sources with ease. It is easy to set up, to connect to WiFi and it even connected to my wife's laptop via Bluetooth.the first device to do so successfully! The only downer is that I have all my music files on a western digital NAS and so far I have not been able to access that collection. Probably user error, but my Sonos connects to this same hard drive with no issues.
Pros: Affordable preamp option with lots of connectivity
Cons: Can't get it to connect to my NAS

Easy set up, great connectivity
Matthew from Westport, NY on 10/10/2024
For the price, this is an amazing device. I have my main system and 1,000+ LPs in storage, but in my small temporary apartment, this serves as a great replacement to my Node 2i, which failed recently. My current system is simple: Presonus powered 5" studio monitors and an 8" Presonus sub. I stream Qobuz and have a vintage Sony DVP-S7000 DVD player, which I use as a CD transport connected via optical to the WiiM. I decided to run the WiiM Ultra through my SMSL D1se DAC. I find the sound of the WiiM to be a bit warmer/fuzzier. It's perfectly acceptable; but I find that the SMSL just sounds better. The difference in sound quality might be the RCA outputs, the DAC chip, or something else. I am curious as to the quality of the phono input. I doubt the quality is very good, and I am running an MC cartridge, so I'll never test. Maybe in a later iteration of this product WiiM will include a higher end phono pre and also offer things like click and pop removal and many other things that can be done in software. Parks Audio has produced digital phono preamps for awhile now and they are awesome. I sold mine to cover the cost of the incredible HEED Quasar III, but miss the functionality and flexibility of the Parks Audio. I think WiiM could really have an amazing product with a better phono pre and software. Overall, this is a wonderful product for an insanely low price. If all you ever have is this and some decent powered speakers, you'd be set. Hi
Pros: -Easy to set up -Great software -EQ -Nice connectivity -Phono input -Good build quality for the price point
Cons: -Lower quality phono preamp (from what I've heard). -Not really a con, but you'll probably get better sound with a higher end external DAC.

WiiM Ultra
Jim from Soddy Daisy, TN on 10/10/2024
Wasn't sure if this streamer/DAC would live up to the hype, but it absolutely does! It brought clarity and definition to the music that I hadn't heard with the bluMe pro I had been using for the last year or so. I've only had a few hours with it at this point, but I definitely think it's well worth the money. I didn't think my vintage JBL L300s could sound any better, but Wiim proved me wrong! I haven't tried the phono stage yet, but I expect it to be really good.

Douglas from Davenport, IA on 10/8/2024
This is the best streamer for the money on the market. It does everything I need it to do and the WiiM app is very thorough and intuitive! It doesn't do Apple Music, which I occasionally use also but I use Amazon music much more. An Apple TV can be used as a workaround for Apple music.
Pros: Well built Bright touch screen Wonderful app
Cons: Lacks Apple Music

Surprisingly Good
Jack from NASHUA, NH on 10/2/2024
I received this today. It was easy to set up and sounds amazing. Here is the interesting thing--it is replacing my McIntosh MB50. I called and spoke with Willy about what to do with the MB50, because the Play-Fi software is so bad that the MB50 is effectively useless. I was prepared to purchase something much more expensive, but Willy suggested I give the WiiM a try. The sound quality is superb, WiFi is stable (unlike the MB250), and it is very easy to use. It pairs wonderfully with my Rotel A14 and Klipsch Heresy speakers. Very pleased. And thank you, Willy.

A unit with too many bugs.
Gary from LAMBERTVILLE, NJ on 9/27/2024
Perhaps I got a bad unit, but it would never download the directory of only a small portion of music i have on a USB drive: something my simple car radio does with ease. And so it looked to be unreliable as a way to display music that is easier to read than the small print read from on my amplifier's USB port. The unit wants to do so many less important things. I wished it had a more reliable display. What was shown on both the app and the unit looked good. But was too limited. And then the whole thing went silent. I finally just gave up.
Pros: Nice display when it works. App was comprehensive.
Cons: Some can be confusing. My unit would never display the USB icon, the source of the music I was most interested in accessing.

AMAZING VALUE
Joe from Maple Grove, MN on 9/18/2024
Bought this streamer for my father, to gain access to streaming with his older audio system. He is using a Sony receiver from the 90's, as well as some Advent speakers. I'd estimate system value is around $2,000-3,000. Setup was unbelievably easy - simply connect streamer to receiver, download "Wiim Home" app, and follow steps stated by app. Total setup time was less than 5 minutes. The music sounds great coming out of his system, the screen is a fun feature for him to look at the album art while music is playing, and he is excited to test out the room correction and 10-band EQ features after he is accustomed to the sound of the streamer without those features utilized. His system is not high-end, but from a modest sound system perspective, the streamer sounds fantastic - very happy with the results. The one con I see is the app interface seems a little plain, but he will use Tidal Connect 100% of the time, bypassing the Wiim Home app, so not a concern. Overall, I can't imagine a better product for the crazy low price - amazing value! So happy with purchase, and he is loving the sound and the ability to stream via Tidal...and the screen! :)
Pros: Simple/Fast Setup Screen Sound Quality EQ/Room Correction included
Cons: App interface

Very Nice After Fiddling Around
Ian from Warwick, RI on 9/15/2024
The sturdy packaging implies a quality experience, and it is. The unit screams "value". Associated equipment: RCA analog cables to Marantz SR6015 feeding Klipsch RP8000 speakers. New-out-of-box the Ultra seemed a bit flat and edge-y, weak mids and not full. No amount of volume adjustments or EQ helped much. This surprised me as my AudioQuest DragonFly Red also has a ESS Sabre DAC and sounds good. I decided to "burn in" the unit, and after about 15 hours it does sound better. I created a custom EQ profile that mates with the Marantz perfectly. Very happy with the mellower and fuller sound. The remote is limited and best ignored in favor of the excellent mobile app. The WiiM Home app provides detailed access to the Ultra's device settings and any inputs such as my USB stick filled with music files ripped from CD by EAC. WiiM Home operates similar to the Denon/Marantz HEOS app if you are familiar with that world. I use Amazon Music Unlimited, but Amazon's app is not a true "connect" type like Spotify or Tidal. With WiiM Home app one can only access what already has been created in the Amazon native app - no modifying in the WiiM Home app. This is a shortcoming of Amazon and not WiiM as the HEOS app is also similarly restricted. Minor shortcomings aside, everyone's ears are different and may perceive things more favorably than mine. The unit is recommended as a good value that can benefit from some fiddling with to please your own tastes.

Excellent product
Eli from Judsonia, AR on 9/13/2024
This thing is excellent. The software is so complete that everything I thought might be an issue was not at all. They already thought of it and the software does it. Interface is excellent too. The built in dac is ok. Its definitely not something that needs replacing but a Modi for $130 is a nice upgrade. I am now thinking about the WiiM mini for another room. The ability to sync the audio between rooms is real mpv type stuff. My only complaint is that so far, to my knowledge, I cannot get the hdmi port to adjust volume. I would prefer to be able to use the remote or the WiiM app to adjust my receiver volume through the hdmi connection while having output on the unit set to fixed. This works with other devices without issue. I do not want to use variable output for this because having 2 volumes is a disaster. Just communicate through hdmi to adjust volume to the receiver its attached to. Overall love the product.

Good but flawed
Anthony from Somers Point NJ on 9/5/2024
All in all a pretty cool device that allows me to finally stream high quality audio and control it via my phone which is something I've been trying to achieve for decades! That said it is flawed. When using Tidal connect to the WiiM it eventually, every time, switches playback to the WiiM app. Once that happens I lose a level of control that I need. Primarily access to the block track block artists button because Tidal needs to be properly trained. I tried support, they just made several simple suggestions before putting the blame on Tidal. The search continues.

Soooo Close.
John from Saint Louis, MO on 8/23/2024
The audio quality is very good. The setup is not a snap. Since the "instruction book" is useless, and you need your phone to configure the Ultra, you will need to be at your computer for reference materials. The Ultra depends on TuneIn. Which lacks any contemporary streaming stations because of the high fees they now charge new stations and streams. vTuner seems to work however, that could be an option. My Tuner is a better option, but WiiM lacks that service. And WiiM does seem to offer a way to key in access information yourself, so that is another option. Ultra is so close to being THE way to go. The nearest perfect solution in 3x the WiiM price.

Nicolas from Egg Hbr Twp, NJ on 8/16/2024
Sounds great. However, I've detected some sluggishness when attempting to use Pandora presets. Presets don't play. Sometimes a complete reset of Wiim is required. I hope the cure comes with a new software release. The jury is out with the room correction. I am running this through a Rotel RA-1592 and B&W 602S3 and ASW675 (Last of the made in England version.) Tried the room correction. But it sounds much better without any correction. Moving out of Marantz to the RZ-1592 was a substantial improvement in overall sound. I am glad I was able to squeeze out more from those B&W 602S3, because they are NOT Chinese. I came from Logitech Squeezeboxes...on the list of recommended components-Audiofile for years. I suspect the Ultra will be on that list too.

Easy to set up. I have only used it over wifi with my Synology NAS to avoid issues with my Marantz CR611's music server. It found the Synology NAS quickly without intervention. Navigating the app is a little confusing at first, but could be easily overcome with a manual. The search function could be improved too -- at least with my Synology NAS it's a bit picky, but it's faster than the Synology or Marantz software. Sounds great though I'm not sure whether I prefer the room correction on or off yet. Might depend on the source.

Multi-zone champ!
Mike from Mt Juliet , TN on 8/14/2024
Reading the paperwork alerted me to the fact that this device was created a little more than a month before I bought it. I was in dire need of a streaming device that also addressed sub woofers for multi-zone configurations. The prior model did not. The technician at Crutchfield CALLED ME to discuss my configuration and ultimately directed me to this device. The set up was easy and my system has never sounded so good! I finally have real subwoofer response. My previous system never quite got it right. But that was a cannibalised surround system. It's only been a day and I look forward to the good sounding music in my home.
Pros: Sub-woofer power, connectivity, so many ways to connect and roam. Crutchfield service is unmatched!
Cons: Needed a splitter to turn one sub out into 2. Sales rep suggested proper adaptor!

Convenience and Versatility
William from Spanish Fort, AL on 8/14/2024
I have seen and heard enough. The five stars are earned already. I have used this device for about a week and I am fascinated by its looks, its sound, and its utility. The potential use scenarios are numerous, but I have had the Ultra outputting to my Modi 3E DAC via optical cable and then sending the analog signal from the DAC into one of my Freya S preamp's inputs. In other words, the Ultra is being used as a digital switcher. I am also going to connect my Blu-Ray player (for CD playback) to the Wiim via a digital coax connection, but I have not gotten around to doing that yet. I have much enjoyed the front screen art on all playing digital files. It is a nice feature. I have set the Ultra to run at fixed volume and I use the preamp to control volume when listening. I have not even tried the room correction: the unprocessed sound is just that good. The Wiim will be used, of course, for two channel listening only. The ARC connection on my TV currently runs between it and a Sony receiver which handles all my multichannel AV requirements for home theater. The Wiim is for stereo listening, and I have been doing lots of that with it. The Ultra's going to be a big hit with listeners and it should be. It can be set up in minutes with the Wiim app, and fine tuned with the Wiim software to suit your individual tastes and needs. I suspect that my needs will evolve over time, but I suspect the Wiim will remain to direct and control traffic. I l

Nifty/thrifty /streamer/dac/preamp
Jeffrey from Defiance, OH on 8/12/2024
The wait to get the ultra is finally over. For what this unit does at its price point is pretty amazing. Since Roku and other streamers stopped the support of tidal which was how I was getting my music ended , I was disappointed to say the least . I know that receiving my music this way is not optimal. Set up is pretty simple * and the WiiM software is easy to navigate. I've had the ultra in two different systems basically to see if I need another one. I do have a couple dac's that I have yet to try with the ultra but after listening to the internal ultras dac I really don't feel the need. I did use it as a preamp but preferred the sound of my old Parasound. I've not tried the room correction feature as of yet due to the ultra being used in 3 different rooms. I've used the equalizer feature and find it quite useful. My only complaint is the build quality which at the price point is understandable. * I did initially need to call crutchfield support as I couldn't get any sound out of my Integra avr with the ultra. I actually did accidentally find the correct setting in the Integras menu to get sound routed. I'm happy to say "Dakota" the tech at Crutchfield did explain a lot on the workings of the HDMI as I'm not all that tech savvy on certain workings. He was quite patient as I was pretty frustrated at the time. Thank you Dakota. Great unit for the money

WiiM Ultra and Crutchfield Rocks!
Lewis from Grenloch, NJ on 8/7/2024
I was listening to Apple Music through my Buchardt A-700 floor standing self-powered speakers and was very happy. Someone suggested I switch to Tidal and use a separate streamer. I just received my Wiim Ultra streamer and upgraded to Tidal. . . OMG! Soundstage depth and width opened up and imaging tightened up dramatically. Instrument separation and transparency definitely increased. For about the same price, Tidal outperforms Apple Music (even though the basic layout of the application is the same, the shuffle algorithms and music suggestions are much better.) The Wiim Ultra is a joy to set up and the app is excellent. My purchase through Crutchfield (as always) was flawless. I wish other companies were as customer-service oriented as Crutchfield. Kudos to Buchardt, Wiim, Tidal and Crutchfield - I am definitely a Happy Camper!

I love this device, along with the features it offers. The built-in DAC sounds pretty good. Having multiple ways to connect the device is awesome. These days those abilities are important. I can foresee using this device in different environments. The portability makes that possible. From my, it is easy to hook it up to different configurations. It truly is WiiM's best streamer yet. There are more pros than cons, which is what everyone looks for in a device such as this. Love that it has an EQ and room correction. My only wish is that it could support Apple Music. That makes me sad. Otherwise, 8/10 for me.

Pros: Easy to connect Easy to operate Small footprint Great features
Cons: Needs to incorporate Apple

WiiM Ultra
Michael from Cookeville, TN on 8/7/2024
Solid build and nice front display! Connections are everything you would need for a small setup. I synced two different systems in the same room with my Wiim Pro Plus and the Wiim Ultra and they sound great. I think the DAC in the Ultra is a little better than the Pro Plus. Very happy with my purchase!

Impressive
Lapsley from Blountville, TN on 8/7/2024
As an owner of two WiiM Mini's and a WiiM Pro Plus, I recently purchased the Ultra. I don't have many hours with it as of yet, but I am impressed by the build quality, the feature set, the sound quality and the price. The DSP is a nice feature and I'm still experimenting with its settings, but it does make a subtle but recognizable difference. Overall the sound quality is an improvement over the Pro Plus, but I'm connected digital output to an external DAC. That said, I did try the RCA outputs straight to an preamp and it is very close to the external DAC I'm using (Wyred4Sound DAC v2.2). Given the price point this should be a serious consideration for anyone wanting to either upgrade their existing streamer or as an excellent entry point into music streaming.

Versatile Audio Demon!
Jamie from Munhall, PA on 8/7/2024
A well made very versatile product. The Wiim Ultra as been everything that I have been looking for. Lots of inputs and outputs, with great flexibility. The UI is very simple and always getting updates. I feel like it will be updated more and offer many new ways to enjoy music. It looks great, sounds great, and runs smoothly. 10/10 would buy again.
Pros: Versatile Looks Great Easy to use
Cons: Only one output at a time Cannot browse local library via touchscreen

Great streamer with a good DAC
John from Parrish, FL on 8/6/2024
So for $329, you get a music streamer with a decent DAC, connection galore, bass management and room correction. The WiiM app is also quite good. Setup was quick. It just worked. The sound is also quite good. I use this streamer to stream from Qobuz and also to listen to music stored on a flash drive. I highly recommend this streamer. It has the most features for the money.
Pros: Price, possible connections, sound
Cons: None

Great Streamer
Kimberly from Anaheim, CA on 8/6/2024
Amazing streamer. At last I have found something user friendly that works from my phone. I got this ultra so that I can hook up my CD player. The sound quality is good. I added a tube headphone amp to put some warmth to the sound. I use HD-660S2 headphones. The headphone jack on the unit is not able to drive my headphones. The unit is easy to set-up and no fuss. You can simply play your music without a big start-up check-list. I can pre-flight and start my airplane faster than some of the other streamers. I would add a few more inputs. such as two line inputs. The DAC is good quality. Could be just a little more soundstage / depth and warmth but overall good sounding. Again, I can play my music quickly. Suggest that Wiim even comes out with a streamer with even a better DAC
Pros: Great streamer, easy to set-up and use. Best ever. Good sound quality.
Cons: Need a few more inputs such as another line in. Needs a little more warmth / soundstage.

Fantastic Streamer
Marc from Plainview, NY on 8/6/2024
For the money, I'm not sure of any other streamer that can give you what the ultra can. A great sounding dac, phono stage, color display, media server capabilities, preamp functionality etc to name just a few. All in all quite impressed by it. One note, this streamer does not support airplay so if that's important to you, there are other products that support it.
Pros: Mobile app, capabilities, sound, ease of use
Cons: No Apple AirPlay, smallish display

Carlos from Miami Fl on 8/5/2024
Fantastic product. Very easy to setup and the Wiim app is fantastic. Highly recommend. Using only as a streamer to my outboard DAC through USB and sounds fantastic. Using USB makes you use the DAC's clock so it sounds much better than when i used coax out. Screen looks great too. Love the album art
Pros: Easy set up Great sound
Cons: No airplay but i dont use it anyway but just in case.

The WiiM Ultra is an excellent DAC with a sound improvement clearly discernible. My only gripe is with the minimalistic instruction manual. There are so many settings that aren't discussed in the manual.
Pros: Sound quality
Cons: Manual

The WiiM Ultra Is Wonderful Addition To Any AV System
Gerald from Winchester, MA on 8/2/2024
Great sound! Very easy to hook up. So many connection options. The Ultra sound as good or better than streamers that are three times the price. You can't go wrong with the WiiM Ultra.
Pros: Sound is, Amazing! All the connections you will need. WOW, so much fun you can't go wrong.
Cons: Non that I can think of.

WiiM Ultra is a bargain at 3x it's price point
Raymond from Minneapolis, MN on 8/2/2024
I've been an 'audiophile' (audiofool?) for going on three decades now and I honestly cannot remember ever purchasing a product which has better surpassed my lofty expectations of it. If you're even remotely on the fence, don't be. I'm currently enjoying this little gem on my desktop as a DAC/Streamer for Tidal HiFi via line out to a Schiit Nitsch Piety headphone amp out to my Meze 109 Pro headphones and the results have been very impressive. Seriously debating incorporating this into my primary listening room for a listen. While I have my reservations about whether it can compete with $5k worth of streamer and DAC - it likely won't be embarrassed either, it's that good. You really can't go wrong here.
Pros: It's something of a Swiss Army knife of streamers with an excellent DAC, built in EQ, preamp, phono preamp, room correction and a very usable touch-screen interface with a remote.incredible value for it's meager price point of $329.
Cons: None.even at 3x its price point.

2 Thumbs up
Samuel from Williston, SC on 8/2/2024
I love it while it has a few bugs Wiim has always been good about sending updates. Another thing to remember if you're going to purchase one make sure you have a good power amp. The sound is good when plugged into my Fosi Za3 class D amp ,but it truly comes to life when hooked to my Emotiva A2 class AB amp.
Pros: Wonderful sound along with awesome features
Cons: I wish the screen was larger

Ambachew from Aurora, CO on 8/2/2024
Great product perfectly performs what it's supposed to do. Not an expert to comment on its sound quality but for my amateur ears it sounds heavenly. Endless connection ports and awesome looks. It even comes with a Bluetooth remote control: my 2000 dollar Sonus Faber Omnia doesn't even have that type of remote.

WiiM Ultra
Darrin from Penfield, NY on 7/28/2024
Looks great and sounds great and a steal for the price. BUT. I didn't see any small print or big print on your add that the unit was not certified for Airplay2. Grrrrrrrr That is my main music source for streaming. I'll have to use Amazon for now......seems like it might get an update for later. I read they didn't want to delay the release for AirPlay2 certification. Therefore only 4 stars. Great build quality and great sound. The phono section is pretty good as well as the DAC, but I'm doing back to my Aragon DAC and B&K Phono 10 preamp for those components. I tried the Room correction on my three different systems and the only speakers it seemed to make a difference on were my Allison CD7 towers and my Pioneer HPM 40 Speakers. My Lintons and AR 4xa speakers sounded worse with the correction even after a few attempts. Only wish is if it had been offered in silver. :-) PS don't set up the room correction when your dog is in the room. My Golden heard it and bolted upstairs. :-)

Disappointed
Duane from Lakeville, MN on 7/28/2024
Very disappointed in the Ultra, I had it connected to a WiiM Amp and a Marantz 1711 receiver and had the same results. The highs were muted and a much smaller sound stage. I've had a WiiM pro plus and this sounded much better. I'm wondering if I got a defective unit? The box it was shipped in was pretty dinged up. All I see are glowing reviews, wish I could say the same.

The only Wiim product to not include AirPlay compatibility. Couldn't get Chromecast from Roon to work and the NAS playback failed too. Basically a Bluetooth bridge with a pretty screen. Sent it back with extreme prejudice.
Pros:
Cons: No AirPlay. Chromecast failed. NAS playback didn't work either. Cheap feel volume knob.

Bait-and-switch on Airplay 2 support
Zee from San Francisco, CA on 7/27/2024
Bait-and-switch on Airplay 2 support! Prior to shipping, this device promised Airplay 2 support as a software update. This was removed post-product launch. Maybe they'll do the same with Roon support? Decent device otherwise. Plays well, but feels cheap.
Pros: Great sound output. Room correction works well. Easy to use. Ish.
Cons: Reneged on Airplay 2 support. Screen controls feel slow. Turning dial on front feels cheap, grainy.

WiiM Ultra
Mitchel from University City, MO on 7/26/2024
Great product for the price. Like the other WiiM products I've bought (Mini & Pro) the setup is fast and easy. I was up and running within 10 minutes, and half of that time was a firmware upgrade. The range of features the Ultra offers for the money is amazing. Besides streaming music, it can also be used: as a preamp with line and MM/MC phono inputs; a stand-alone DAC; a headphone amp; and a Squeezelite player (and soon as a Roon endpoint). The built-in EQ is a nice option and will soon include an option for automatic room measurement and correction. The Ultra uses the same iPhone and Android app as the other WiiM players and connects to most of the major streaming services. WiiM also has a great reputation for frequent updates to their firmware and software app that improves performance and adds new features. Finally, the sound quality is excellent -- much better than I expected. The Ultra competes well with other streamers costing double, triple or more.

Blown Away
David from San Diego, CA on 7/26/2024
In brief, this streamer does nearly everything you could ask for in a network music streamer and has a very highly polished and glitch free user experience. Offering balanced outputs, and enough inputs to ensure you can bring your other sources along for the ride, there are literally no other units at this price point that deliver this much value. I use this as a streamer obviously, but as a pre-amp too, outputting over balanced outputs to a Wyred 4 Sound DAC2 that in turn feeds 2 Fosi V3 Mono blocks to drive a pair of CSS Criton 1TD-X book shelf speakers. The icing on the cake is the high quality display screen for visualizations and playback and album art display - and the incredible price point. This unit is delivering on all promises and is an amazing value. Don't hesitate, order it now.
Pros: value, build quality, ease of setup and operation
Cons: none

No AirPlay 2 , Returned
David from Bend, OR on 7/25/2024
I REALLY wanted to like this device. It is now a huge buzz in the audio review community; however, it had one fatal flaw for our house. The issue is that at the last minute WiiM removed support for AirPlay 2; that removal was likely an effort to expedite the initial release. This feature was publicised pre-production and this is the ONLY WiiM produce without it. This feature is very important in our household so it is a complete fail for our use case. Would definitely repurchase if (when?) WiiM ever gets it added to the feature set. Of course Crutchfield was exceptional in handling the return and a replacement product while waiting for a future release of an AirPlay2 compatible WiiM Ultra.
Pros: Setup, WiiM ecosystem, Room EQ
Cons: No AirPlay 2 | No way to copy preset favorites from WiiM Mini to Ultra | small-ish screen hard to see across room
