Features

Wired or Wireless Network Connectivity: The WiiM Ultra Audio Streamer is WiFi 6E certified with support for 2.4/5/6GHz tri-band WiFi (802.11ax), allowing you to wirelessly connect to your home or office WiFi network router and ISP (internet service provider). The Ultra Audio Streamer is also equipped with an Ethernet RJ-45 LAN jack (10/100Mbps) for a wired network connection to your router. By connecting the WiiM Ultra Audio Streamer to your network and ISP, you get access to a variety of online music services and internet radio from the WiiM Home App, Amazon Alexa, and Google Cast; as well as DLNA compatibility and Roon-Ready certification (coming soon).

  • WiFi setup can be done through the WiiM Home App (for Apple iOS or Android OS) on your compatible smartphone or tablet device.
  • You can also use the Google Home App (for Apple iOS and Android OS) to setup up a WiFi network connection.

ESS ES9038 Q2M DAC: The WiiM Ultra Audio Streamer features a premium ESS ES9038 Q2M DAC (digital-to-analog converter) for Hi-Res sound quality with high 121db SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) and ultra-low 0.00018% THD (total harmonic distortion). Its capable of playing back 2ch stereo Hi-Res music files up to 32-bit/384kHz stereo PCM.

Auto Calibration: The WiiM Ultra Audio Streamer's connected amp, receiver, or speaker may have different audio path latency due to different hardware, software and DSP processing. To maintain audio synchronization of each component, WiiM incorporates auto calibration. By leveraging a built-in microphone and proprietary algorithm, the entire audio path latency is measured automatically when the WiiM is connected with your integrated amplifier, AV receiver, or powered speaker. The latency value will be used to maintain the perfect audio synchronization in wireless multi-room or multi-channel playback.

Advanced EQ: When adaptive EQ is enabled, the music genre information and other tags included in the audio content are used to adjust the frequency of the WiiM Ultra Audio Streamer in real-time by bringing in rich audio to capture every musical detail or make vocals clearer. You can also further cater to your listening taste by applying multiple EQ options including 24 EQ Presets, Bass & Treble adjustment, a 10-band Graphic EQ or Parametric EQ.

Linkplay: Using Linkplay protocol, the WiiM Ultra Audio Streamer can be configured in a multi-room application with other WiiM and Linkplay devices, or can be paired with another Ultra Audio Streamer in a stereo configuration. Using proprietary hardware, algorithm, and software optimization, WiiM can achieve less than 150uS (0.00015s) synchronization accuracy among connected devices as long as all your compatible devices are on the same wireless WiFi network.

  • Multi-Room Audio: Using the WiiM Home App (for Apple iOS or Android OS) you can create a multi-room audio experience by wirelessly linking multiple WiiM and Linkplay devices together in different rooms of your house. You can choose to play the same audio content on all your devices or a group of devices, or play a different music source on each WiiM or Linkplay device in your home. Multiroom compatible sources include Network content, Bluetooth sources, as well as analog & digital inputs. You can also control the volume globally, by group, or for each device.
  • Stereo Pairing: If you have two separate powered speakers, you can use two WiiM Ultra Audio Streamers to create a stereo pair by connecting one Ultra Audio Streamer to each powered speaker. Use the WiiM Home App to setup Stereo Pairing between two Ultra Audio Streamers and then designate which one is the Left channel and which one is the Right channel.

Note: The WiiM Min Audio Streamer also supports multi-room audio via Google Cast, as well as can be linked to Amazon Alexa Echo devices and smart speakers using Amazon Alexa App, plus can be made part of a Roon system (Certification coming).

Gapless Playback: Precise gapless playback is important to many user's listening experience when listening to live concert recording. With precise gapless playback, the playback timing is guaranteed to be identical to the source. Whereas some software, firmware, and hardware components may add substantial delay associated with starting the playback of a track, WiiM uses two decoders to remove the extra samples at the beginning and end of each file and combines them. As a result, here are no gaps or overlaps (crossfading) between successive tracks. This works for all the supported music services and music on your smartphone, tablet, and local network.

HDMI ARC: The WiiM Ultra provides an HDMI ARC jack so you can connect the unit to the HDMI ARC jack of your TV, allowing you to listen to your favorite TV shows, movies, sports, and games through the WiiM Ultra and your connected speakers. The WiiM Ultra's HDMI ARC jack supports Dolby Digital and 2ch stereo PCM audio only (not compatible with DTS).

  • The HDMI jack is for ARC (Audio Return Channel) only. It must be connected to a TV or projector's HDMI ARC input. It cannot be used to connect an external HDMI source device such as a Blu-ray player, game console, or satellite/cable box.
  • The HDMI ARC jack supports audio transmission only; it does not provide video passthrough.

Analog & Digital Audio Outputs: The WiiM Ultra Audio Streamer is outfitted with both analog & digital audio outputs to give you flexibility when it comes to connecting the device to your integrated amplifier, AV receiver, soundbar, or powered speaker. The analog output consists of a stereo RCA output connector, while the digital outputs consist of an optical (toslink) digital output connector and a coaxial (RCA) digital output connector. The analog and digital audio outputs can be setup as Fixed or Variable, so you can control the volume either from your integrated amplifier, AV receiver, powered speaker, or WiiM Home App.

  • The WiiM Ultra Audio Streamer only outputs 2ch PCM stereo (up to 24-bit/192kHz) and is not compatible with Dolby Digital, DTS, or other multichannel audio formats.
  • Only one output can be connected at a time (either analog RCA, optical digital, or coaxial digital).

Mono-RCA Sub Out: The WiiM Ultra is also equipped with a mono-RCA subwoofer output for the connection of a powered sub (sold separately). From the WiiM Home App (for Apple iOS or Android OS), you can set the subwoofer output's low pass crossover filter (20Hz to 250Hz), as well as adjust the subwoofer level (-15dB to +15dB) to tailor the bass output.

Headphone Amp: The WiiM Ultra is equipped with a discrete high-fidelity headphone amplifier (TPA6120A2) that delivers outstanding audio clarity (up to 119 dB SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) at the headphone out. You can connect 32-ohm to 300-ohm headphones to the front-panel headphone jack. The unit's other outputs will be muted when using the headphone jack out.

Power Requirements: The WiiM Ultra comes with a detachable AC power cord that will need to be plugged into the back of the audio streamer and into an AC power outlet or surge-protector (sold separately).

Q
Will the WiiM Ultra give me full high res sound with a pair of KEF LSX ll LT speakers, I am using Tidal as my streaming source?

A
Greetings James. Thank you for your question. Wiim has a very capable DAC to decode high resolution files. Certainly, from Tidal. The built in DAC on the Wiim Ultra is also a step up from the built in DAC in the LSX II speakers.

Q
I have a Marantz Cinema 70s and the streaming music quality is not great. Would the DAC in the WiiM be better than the Marantz Cinema 70s's DAC? I am thinking to hook up the WiiM ultra with the Marantz via RCA. Thank you.

Greetings David. Thank you for your question. Marantz does not disclose the manufacture of their DACs, however it is a 32/192 capable high res DAC. The Wiim Ultra should have the better DAC. It uses ESS as its DAC chip which can do 32/384. Not sure what streaming source you are using, but that is a factor as well. If the source is high resolution, you should hear a difference.

Will the Wiim Ultra work with my Klipsch rp 600's?

This WiiM unit does not have an amp built in and cannot power speakers. The WiiM Amp and WiiM Amp Pro can power those speakers and this link will take you to them: https://www.crutchfield.com/g_385750/Wi-Fi-Multi-room-Audio.html?tp=63339&fa=1#&nvpair=FFBrand|WiiM&nvpair=FFType|Amplified%20Music%20Player

I recently bought an Onkyo RZ-50. Do I really NEED a WiiM Ultra? I only want one because it looks cool (and I have extra dough). ;-)
ron  Dec 21, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Ron, so honestly you do not need a WiiM. Its a really great little piece of tech that does so many good things but your Onkyo does everything the WiiM does as far as streaming goes. I would only consider one if you did not like the way your DAC sounded on that Onkyo for music streaming, or if you wanted to create a whole home WiiM ecosystem with a couple of WiiM amps in other parts of your home power speakers in other rooms.

Can I connect both a TV and Playstation to the Wiim Ultra?
patrick  Dec 16, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Patrick. The Wiim has one pair of analog RCA inputs, HDMI ARC, and one optical input. If your TV has HDMI ARC, that covers the TV. If your Playstation has RCA or optical out, you are covered for the Playstation as well.

I recently purchased the WiiM Ultra from Crutchfield. The WiiM Provided User Quick Guide does not provide much information. How can I change the WiiM Ultra's touch screen display so that it alternately displays the input/output options, settings, EQ, VU Meter or Presets? The option to change the display is not in the WiiM Home app or on the remote control.

Q
Can this connect wirelessly to Echo, Google Home/Chromecast, and Sonos devices to play audio on those devices? Can it simultaneously play to those multiroom devices and over the line out from the WiiM?
domenico  Nov 24, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings New User. Thank you for your question's. The Amazon Echo can be used to voice control the Wiim Ultra, Wiim will not send audio it though. This can be part of a Chrome Cast/Google cast network of speakers. The wired RCA out can be connected to a Sonos speaker, if that speaker has an analog input. Once into one Sonos speaker, you can use the Sonos app to carry that audio over to other Sonos speakers. You will be using 3 applications to get this all done, the Wiim app, the Sonos app, and the Google Cast app. Sonos can not communicate with Wiim wirelessly.

Can I plug in an iPhone 13 directly into the wiim ultra using a usb-A to lightening cable to listen to my music library on the iPhone 13?
todd  Nov 11, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Todd. Thank you for your question. Unfortunately no, the USB in supports USB thumb drives only. Other Wiim devices have the Apple certification to use Airplay. The Ultra has not, and my not. There is cost involved, as well as paying Apple to run the certification check. My guess, thats why the USB in does not support Apple as well.

Q
Can I connect a hard drive or sSD to the Ultra and use it as a server as well?
stephen  Nov 01, 2024
1 answer
A
The rear-panel USB-A 2.0 port can be used for connection of a USB MSC (mass storage class) device, such as a USB thumbdrive or HDD formatted in FAT32, TNFS or EXT4.. A HDD (hard disk drive) may require external power. You'll be able to playback Hi-Res music files (up to 24-bit/192kHz) including AAC, ALAC, FLAC, MP3, WAV, and WMA from a compatible USB MSC device. The WiiM Ultra not only indexes your USB device's music library, but also serves as an always-on media server, making your personal tunes accessible anytime and anywhere in your home so you can stream your digital music collection to one or multiple WiiM devices throughout your space.

Q
When hooked up to an AVR via rca cables can the volume be controlled by the Ultra or must it be by the AVR?
james  Oct 13, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings James. Thank you for your question. The RCA outputs on the Wiim Ultra are variable, so you will be able to control the strength of the signal that comes out the Wiim, essentially then raising and lowering the volume of an amplifier. Just remember if your AVR volume is set low, the Wiim will not be able to control that.

Q
Is there a plug in or something to connect my Wiim Ultra to my Jellyfin server? I can find my network files in the Wiim app, but it's clunky and I'm looking for something more seamless like the Spotify integration. Thanks.
james  Oct 05, 2024
1 answer
A
The WiiM Ultra is DNLA and Windows 7/8/10/11 compliant for audio networking, James. This works over Wi-Fi or if the WiiM is plugged in directly to your router with the LAN ethernet connection on the rear panel. You may need to enable file sharing on your computer to access those files from the WiiM app. If you need any support, please contact our Technical Support hotline with your order number handy and we are happy to assist! We offer Technical Support for life with all products purchased from Crutchfield.

Q
I currently have 3.1 system using a Marantz 1711 with powered sub. I'd like to use WiiM as a Roon endpoint, sending the output to the Marantz. I'd also like to take advantage of the WiiM sub preout for music while still maintaining the Marantz sub preout for movies / streaming. How do I do both? Do I need a splitter to take a signal from the Marantz and WiiM and send a single signal to the sub? Thanks!
scott p.  Sep 02, 2024
1 answer
A
We do not offer any gear that will make it safe to use the same subwoofer but its also worth mentioning that some subs are great for movies (i.e. ported subs) and others are optimized for music (subs in a sealed box) so it would be best to get a sub built for each application to use with each device. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to get a personal recommendation on subs to use in this system

Greetings Rolf. Thank you for your question. You would not need another DAC with the Wiim Ultra. It already has a top shelf DAC built in.

Q
I'm setting up my new WiiM Ultra and I'm a little unclear about the latency measurement process. The app simply says to connect the Ultra to my passive speakers through the banana plugs. But there is only one pair of "out" RCA ports and one pair of "in" RCA plugs. Am I supposed to connect a speaker to each one?
david  Aug 14, 2024
1 answer
A
It sounds like the app thinks you have the WiiM amp which does have banana plugs to connect speakers. This WiiM Ultra is not designed to power speakers and requires an amp or receiver to provide power to passive speakers. As for the process to measure latency, our technical support can help our customers through this process as part of the lifetime technical support we give with its purchase. We include their toll free phone number on the order invoice to make it easier to contact them for their help

Greetings Ellison. Thank you for your question. There are three types of outputs, and Im sure your AVR has all three. RCA, Optical, and COAX digital. Any one of those will get the Wiim audio into your AVR.

Q
Are there still plans to make this an Apple airplay 2 unit?
rick  Jul 28, 2024
1 answer
A
Last I read, there will be zero chances of Apple Airplay 2 being added to this version of the WiiM Ultra. The hardware to allow that was left completely out of the construction so its not even something that could be pushed out with a firmware update. If they did go and add Airplay to it, it will be a v2 of the Ultra over the next year or so.

Can the device cache downloaded music to reduce bandwidth? Specifically, for Spotify Premium on rural broadband that I rely on for daily remote work.
danello  Feb 26, 2025
1 answer
A
There are no onboard memory features with the WiiM Ultra streamer, Da Nello. You'll need around a 5Mbps network connection or faster for reliable Hi-Res streaming with the WiiM Ultra (or other Hi-Res streamers).

Q
Can the device cache downloaded music to reduce bandwidth? Specifically, for Spotify Premium on rural broadband that I rely on for daily remote work.
danello  Feb 26, 2025

A
This unit does not cache Spotify music. It does run Spotify Connect which means if you have downloaded the music to your phone for offline playback, then the only bandwidth being used will be on your local network between your phone and this device.

Q
The streamer has 32-bit/384kHz decoding, but "only outputs 2ch PCM stereo (up to 24-bit/192kHz)". What's the difference?
danello  Feb 26, 2025
1 answer
A
You are exactly correct, Da Nello. The WiiM Ultra has the capability of decoding music files up-to 32-bit/384kHz and offers a maximum playback resolution of 24-bit/192kHz. This means you can play and enjoy those higher resolution files in 24-bit/192kHz resolution. I hope this helps!

Q
what amp would you recommend I pair/connect to the wiim ultra to power a pair of 4 ohm passive speakers?
wiim ultra  Feb 23, 2025
1 answer
A
That would really depend on the speakers and their overall sensitivity. There are many amps out there that can work but there is still plenty of information missing that we can build anything off of for you. We have advisors who can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 that can help recommend the best amp for your goals.

Q
I jumped the gun and ordered this with some expectations. I have an onkyo RZ50 and I assumed an arc HDMI would give me audio. Which of the other methods will give me the best sound quality? I am doing this to avoid having to use my phone any time I want to listen to music and maximize the quality of Tidal.
benjamin  Feb 12, 2025
1 answer
A
Greetings Ben. The HDMI ARC on the Wiim Ultra would be for audio in from a connected TV with ARC. If you wish to use the higher performance DAC of this or another high res DAC on a different streamer, you would want to use the RCA outputs into the RZ50.

Q
Can a 3.5mm to USB converter cable be used to connect an old school Creative Zen Jukebox Mp3 player to the USB port on the back of the WIIM Ultra and used for playback?
jamal  Jan 26, 2025
1 answer
A
You will want to use the headphone output and the WiiM Ultra's RCA analog inputs to connect your MP3 player, Jamal. I would advise using a high-quality connection cable like the AudioQuest Evergreen .6-meter cable in the link below. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_703EGMR06M/AudioQuest-Evergreen-0-6-meter-2-feet.html

Q
Does the HDMI also output audio? I am currently using a WISA unit that only has HDMI ports and I would like to plug this unit into that.
markw  Dec 23, 2024
1 answer
A
It's HDMI does not output audio. It only been designed to take audio in from an HDMI ARC port on a TV or projector. We do have A/V adapters that can convert one of the audio outputs into HDMI form for using with your WISA unit. I recommend contacting a product advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to get a personal recommendation on current model for that conversion

Can I connect three separate receivers to this unit to play music from Iphone through bluetooth?
john  Sep 02, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Jack. Great question. This Wiim has 1 analog RCA output, and 1 optical output. If one of your receivers has optical in, use that for one receiver, then for the other 2 you would have to Y spit both the left and right RCA outputs to then go to the remaining 2 receivers.
