Product Research

Features

Overview: The DS18 DSP4.8BTM is a 4-channel in/ 8-channel out digital sound processor designed to provide audiophile-level tuning of your vehicle sound system. The compact DSP processor can provide 8-channels of DSP audio processing including Channel Routing, Channel Gain, 28-Band Graphic EQ on the input, 8-Band Parametric EQ on each audio output channel, High/Low Crossovers, Limiter, Polarity Invert, and Channel Delay. All DSP configuration is made via the DS18 DSP app on your compatible iOS or Android device using a Bluetooth connection.

Notes:

  • The DS18 DSP4.8BTM features pre-amp inputs and outputs and will require a connection to a multi-channel amplifier (sold separately) for operation.
  • There are no physical controls on the DSP4.8BTM; all configuration and control must be made through the mobile app on a compatible Bluetooth-connected device.

DSP Audio Processor: All of the DSP4.8BTM settings are made through the DSP4.8BTM app (iOS 13+ and Android 7+) and your compatible Bluetooth-connected device. Options include:

  • Channel Routing: The Channel Routing page lets you assign any of the 4 RCA audio inputs on the DSP4.8BTM to any of the 8 processor channels and outputs.
  • Gain: The Gain page provides virtual sliders for the Main input level and each of the 8 audio channel levels. The Main Input Gain has a range of -53 dB to 0 dB; each Channel Gain has a range of -33 dB to +9 dB.
  • Input EQ (Graphic): A 28-band Graphic EQ is provided for the input signals; bands are fixed at 31 Hz, 40 Hz, 50 Hz, 80 Hz, 100 Hz, 125 Hz, 160 Hz, 200 Hz, 250 Hz, 315 Hz, 400 Hz, 500 Hz, 630 Hz, 800 Hz, 1 kHz, 1.25 kHz, 1.6 kHz, 2 kHz, 2.5 kHz, 3.15 kHz, 4 kHz, 5 kHz, 6.3 kHz, 8 kHz, 10 kHz, 12.5 kHz, 16 kHz; each frequency band has an adjustment range of +12 dB to -12 dB.
  • Crossover: Each of the 8 audio channels can have a High-Pass and/or Low-Pass crossover applied to it for fine-tuning the audio. Both the high- and low-pass crossovers include the following filter types: Butterworth (6, 12, 18 and 24 dB per octave); Linkwitz-Riley (12, 24, 36 and 48 dB per octave); Bessel (12 and 24 dB per octave); each crossover has a frequency cutoff range from 20 Hz to 20 kHz that can be set using the provided +/- increment buttons.
  • Output EQ (Parametric): An 8-band parametric EQ is available for each of the 8 output channels; band frequency range: 20 Hz to 20 kHz; adjustable Q factor (width) for each band: 0.6 to 9.9 in 0.1 increments.
  • Polarity: Lets you reverse the signal polarity of each channel; options for 0° and 180°.
  • Limiter: A limiting circuit can be applied to each channel to help avoid distortion in the audio signal; options include:
    • Threshold: Adjustment range: -54 to 6.
    • Attack: Adjustment range: 0.1 to 200.
    • Release: 1 to 990
    • Auto: Auto mode lets you set the Threshold and automatically sets the Attack to 10 and the Release to 160.
  • Delay: A signal delay can be applied to each channel to compensate for un-equally distant speakers; adjustment is set in distance (mm) with a range of 0 to 6496 mm, in 7 mm increments.
  • Presets: The DSP4.8BTM lets you save and recall your DSP settings; up to 3 presets can be saved.
  • Monitor: The Monitor page lets you adjust the Main output level (-53 dB to 0 dB), as well as check the input signal voltage for each channel. A battery monitor lets you quickly see the current battery voltage.

Audio Inputs & Outputs:

  • Inputs: Four RCA jacks (A-D) provide the low-level signal inputs for the processor.
  • Outputs: Eight RCA jacks (1-8) provide the processed output signals for running to your amplifier.

Reset: A recessed reset button can be pressed and held for 5 seconds to reset all of the processor's parameters back to factory default.

Power: A removable 3-pin Euroblock (Phoenix) connector provides the connections to the vehicle electrical system for +12V Power and Ground, and the Remote Input for activating the processor from an aftermarket headunit's remote output. Each set-screw terminal can accommodate wire up to 14-gauge.

Indicators: All of the DS18 DSP4.8BTM LED indicators are located on the top panel:

  • BT: Lights to indicate a Bluetooth device is paired and connected to the processor.
  • Power: Lights when the processor is powered on.
  • Clip A/B & C/D: Two Clip LEDs can light to indicate the input signals are clipping on the A/B and C/D channels.
  • Output Limiter: An 8-LED Limiter meter can display the signal level when reaching its maximum level (distortion point); if the Limiter is activated, the signal limit will be displayed.

Q
I am trying to keep my original head unit. But want to have full control over my audio. Does this have speaker level input? Or would i need a LOC?
jesus  Mar 11, 2025

A
The DS18 DSP4.8BTM features RCA line-level inputs only, Jesus. You will need to use a processor/line output converter when using the DS18 DSP with a factory radio. The DS18 DSP4.8BTM does provide the full control over your sound that you need!

Q
I have a five-channel setup for my vehicle. four speakers and one subwoofer for a total of 6 RCA inputs coming from my head unit to the amplifiers. Am I able to integrate this DSP with it only accept four RCA Inputs?
javier  Mar 07, 2025
1 answer
A
Hey Javier, so you can run 4 RCAs from the headunit into this DSP and run out into your 5ch amp. The issue you will run into however is that you will not have any sub controls on your headunit since you will not be running the RCAs from the deck to the DSP. If you did want to maintain those sub controls, I would consider something like this from Alpine with a 6 in/6 out options. https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c402/p_500PXEC606/Alpine-PXE-C60-60-Digital-Signal-Processor.html?tp=61658
