Oberon 5, Denton 85th, Linton 85th

I have run these with a Marantz PM 8006, with very good results. Very engaging and crystal clear. Along with enough musical bass to keep you satisfied. Also ran with a Denon PMA 900HNE, with good results but the bass line is the star. The Denon is rolled off on the top but very weighted bass. I now run Linton 85ths with the 8006, after 200 hrs they just blossomed, into a sound where I no longer use a sub. There is so much music to be heard when you truly have a balanced sound. The Oberons became boring with the 900HNE. I had my Denton 85ths sitting around with easily 200 hrs on them. I had run them with the PMA awhile back I needed to hear the Oberons for awhile though. With the Dentons the tweeter is off set from the woofer. Normally the tweeter is run on the inside towards your amp. Well I am running them with the tweeter on the outside towards the wall. This and the PMA are giving me a sound I have waited for. The strong treble from the Dentons is now balanced and it is just warm, punchy, treble and detail to please, the bass is strong, with vocals to love. For the record the Lintons are designated left and right speakers. The Denton 85ths are not. Wharfedale would not ommit this if they dictated how they set up. I have also turned my sub off for the Dentons. The subs are a REL t7 and a t5. I truly do not miss them. Maybe for Rockin out but to hear the music no. Remember the Dentons are 4ohms and the PMA rocks them. I do recommend the Oberons they are that good.

Pros: Nothing bad from the Oberons, just run them with a Neutral to Brighter equipment. Very good everything, maybe a recessed midrange, remember I love Wharfedale. Excellent for Home Theater. Very clean very good.

Cons: The wide dispersion tweeter may turn off some listeners. I run Spotify premium with a lan cable from a router. If your streaming via anything find a way to use a lan hookup. You will be stunned. Check your internet speed as well it matters. The lan hookup is your best dollars spent if you already have a system. I have reviews here on Crutchfield for the Denon, the Dentons and the Lintons. I did sell the Oberons.

Just unboxed a day ago and these speakers sound very good already without a break in. Good detail with classical music and things should only get better. Vocals are exceptional playing a CPO recording of Max Von Schillings with a tenor soloist. It really stood out . Percussion precise. Thanks to Max for his help with unraveling some minor shipping issues that assured I would be around to take delivery. Crutchfield your team does a great job . Thanks!

very good

My first impression must have been "great". The bass is excellent, enough powerful and well-focused to obtain high credit. In the meantime, the midrange sounds like a bit unbalanced in accordance with the whole harmony. I was feeling the high ends could have been more extended and more articulated. These speakers tend to sound so warm and ample that they seem to fit in jazz and home theater. In this case, the color of sound may derive from the soft dome tweeter and the wood fiber woofer. Overall, Dali Oberon series are presumed to get accordingly good scores in terms of their tough build and pricewise competitiveness. Besides, I'd like to praise Crutchfield for fast shipment, let alone low-rate shipping fee.

Pros: very reliable build; reasonable price; enough good sound; little space-occupying;

Cons: the treble a bit shy of detail

I find the sound to be rich and satisfying with a nice broad sound stage. The towers are compact and unobtrusive. I run a Marantz Cinema 70s preamp through an Emotiva BasX A5 and drive these easily. I recommend them highly, these speakers a simply a joy to listen to.

DALI Oberon 5

Unlike most of the reviewers here I'm anything but an audiophile, so if this review is to be of any use it'll be for other non-audiophiles looking to step up from whatever they've got. In my case, the step up was from powered Audioengine A5s with music streamed via Bluetooth. Convenient but as I've gotten more serious about listening in recent years (jazz, blues, classical) I wanted something better, clearer, something I could turn up in our large listening space while retaining clarity. I picked the Dali 5's based on a lot of online research, which for our purposes proved accurate. First, they really are clear, precise; as I said, I'm not an audiophile at all but they're night and day compared to the A5s, and as one often reads, I now hear elements in the music that I never heard before. That much I know. Second, they're small, read: unobtrusive. I get that a lot of people might enjoy a big functional visual presence, but it wouldn't have worked in our family; these look fine while almost disappearing. Third, with the Sonos amp I bought they fill our 25x50 space entirely sufficiently. My alternative would have been KEF LS60s for thousands more. Imagine they'd sound better and be fun to own, too. Maybe I'll step up again one day, but for now these Dali's sound great and have opened up new listening experiences for me. Thanks to Crutchfield for good advice and super service.

These Get It Right

Davis from New York, NY on 10/30/2023

Years ago we had a pair of Sp***or speakers we found used at the old Ste**o Ex****ge in New York City. They gave a sense of security. They had great depth. They brought you into the music. Years have gone by, the British speakers died in a power surge, and we've gotten by with various replacements. So. We're moving into a new NYC apartment, and I've read reviews of the Dali Oberon 5's. (I've an Outlaw receiver. A Rotel CD player, several thousand CDs and a TV.) The Dali's don't physically dominate a room. In fact they are perfect apartment speakers. They sound much bigger than they are. Listening to a variety of CD's as well as our streaming TV, I feel I'm hearing the sound as recoded. The soundstage is wide, although not particularly deep -- if anything, I'd say the sound is a bit forward even when listening from the side. The reviews have all mentioned the bass, which is certainly detailed and satisfying, but the high end is not slighted. Listening to Sam Amidon on the banjo, I heard some sounds of picking I'd never heard before. Sam's voice sounded so natural, my wife (who loves the Dali's), thought we had a guest -- I'm serious. I honestly can't recommend these speakers enough. My wife thinks they sound better than our old Sp***ors. Perhaps. With the right recording, they might be more fun.

Great Musical Speakers

Benjamin from Saint Johns, FL on 6/18/2023

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Very musical. Exceptionally surprising bass with detailed high-end. No brightness or forward in treble. Easy to listen to for long time with no fatigue. Paired with McIntosh SS 50 Watt/Channel Amplifier and McIntosh separates. Compared to KEF LS50 Metas, Sonus Faber Lumina 1 and 2's, B&W 700 S3s, and more looking for best speaker for 10' by 18' room. Plays a variety of music well (Rock, Classical, Jazz, Vocals, Acoustic, Country/Folk, Electronica, etc.). Very pleased. Crutchfield provides great customer service as well.

Pros: Musical. Off axis listening, high-end, bass, warmth/detail. Plays music for listening.not dissecting.

Cons: Not as detailed as B&W if that's your thing.

upgrading a stereo system

Mike from Buffalo, NY on 11/28/2022

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I was looking to upgrade my stereo system at our condo in Fl. I didn't want something to big but had a large room to fill. I tried three bookshelf speakers ;martin logan 35xti nice but wanted a bigger sound stage ; wharfedale evo 4.2 great sounding very detailed but very small sweet spot , tone changed with small movement of speakerts or your head , Oberon 3 not as detailed as wharfedales but wide sound stage and great tone.I thought why not try the Oberon 5 , they wouldn't take up any more space and I would get more bass. I hooked all the speakers up to my best system ,McIntosh pre amp and amp ,Marantz cd player. The Oberon 5 won, they play all genres of music well even old rock that was poorly recored. I can't say that about my highly resolving and much more expensive B&W 803D speakers. There can be a negitive side to a highly detailed sound. Replacing the cheep Soney receiver and Cerwin Vaga speakers with the Oberon 5 and a 80 watt Yamaha receiver was a huge upgrade but I don't want to tick off the condo neighbors.I would give Crutchfield 6 stars! They handled a problem with shipping damage to the oberon 5 well and are very knowledeable.

Pros: big sound from small floorstander , forgiving of poor recordings, great tone

Cons: should be real wood veneer at this price

Wow!! I use them for both watching movies and listening to music and they sound amazing. I have them powered by a cheap(ish) onkyo receiver and works well. I would love to hear them powered by some thing with a bit more juice as I think they will grow with my system. Very happy customer.
