Features
Overview: The Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam (NBIQ4KUS) features dual cameras to give you clear views of the road ahead and the interior cabin. The camera records super-clear video from the front and cabin cameras onto the onboard microSD card, and streams a Live View from the vehicle to your smartphone through the Nextbase iQ app. The iQ 4K has an "always on" 4G cellular connection that allows you to monitor your vehicle or access recorded videos at any time. Smart features, such as Witness Mode, Guardian Mode, and Smart Sense Parking, can give you peace of mind that your family is safe. The dash cam comes with an adhesive mount and two power options.
Dual Cameras: The iQ 4K is two cameras-in-one, with a front-view camera aimed at oncoming traffic and a rear-facing camera that shows the interior of the vehicle. The front camera has a resolution of 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) and a 140° field of view, while the cabin camera has a resolution of Quad HD 1440p, and a wide 180° field of view. In the Nextbase iQ app, you can view a live stream from both cameras simultaneously.
Optional Rear Camera: The iQ-series Smart Dash Cams are compatible with the optional Nextbase iQ Rear Cam (sold separately), adding a wide view behind your vehicle to the front and side views for a full 360 degrees of coverage. The iQ Rear Cam has a long power cable that runs from the rear window to the front camera location, and plugs into the dash cam's provided rear camera input.
Onboard Video Storage: Video footage from the iQ 4K is recorded to a microSD memory card inserted into the camera. Recommended memory cards should have a storage capacity of 32 GB to 256 GB, and a UHS-I U3 speed classification. When the memory card becomes full, the camera uses "loop recording" to overwrite the oldest footage with new recordings. You can manually save recordings to prevent them from being overwritten. A 64 GB microSD card is included with the camera.
Night Vision: The camera features Night Vision with Enhanced Infrared that enables it to pick up details in extreme low-light conditions. Your video will be able to clearly show road signs and license plates as you travel at night.
4G Cellular Connection: The iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam has an inserted 4G SIM card (through T-Mobile) that provides cellular capability, enabling you to interact with the camera remotely from your smartphone. With a Protect or Protect Plus plan (subscription required), you can enjoy several additional features, including Live View, Smart Sense Parking, Witness Mode, Guardian Mode, Cloud Storage, and Remote Access. Two 4G antennae are attached to the sides of the windshield mount to aid in connecting the camera to the 4G network. The antennae are pointed upward, but can be carefully removed and pointed down toward the dashboard, if desired. The camera also has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, which allow connections to your smartphone, but with limited range.
Display: The camera features a small display above the cabin camera lens that indicates 4G signal strength, GPS signal strength, recording status, and other processes. It does not show images from either camera.
GPS: The iQ 4K has a built-in GPS receiver that updates your location via satellite 10 times per second (10 Hz). For better accuracy, the dash cam uses data from the U.S.-based Global Positioning System (GPS), as well as the Russian GLONASS system. This helps the camera accurately record your location, travel direction, and your speed data. The GPS data automatically sets the correct time and date on the camera. GPS data can be valuable to show your exact location, speed, and travel direction in the event of an accident. It can also be useful for young drivers to know their speed and location is being recorded.
Audio Recording: The iQ 4K has a built-in microphone and speaker that records audio along with the video, and listens for voice commands. During playback, you can listen to the audio through the built-in speaker. You can disable the microphone if you choose not to record audio.
Voice Control: You can operate many of the features of the camera hands-free by using voice commands. Voice Control is activated by speaking the "wakeup" phrase "Hey Dash Cam...," followed by the desired Voice Command. Voice Control can be used regardless of the level of your protection plan, and includes the following functions: Turn Microphone On or Off, Turn Cabin Camera On or Off, Turn Privacy Mode On or Off, Protect and Lock Files, and Start and Stop Witness Mode.
Nextbase iQ App: With the Nextbase iQ app on your smartphone or tablet (iOS 15.0+, Android 8.0+), you can setup and enjoy many of the enhanced features of the iQ-series Smart Dash Cameras. You can view recorded videos, and monitor your vehicle in real-time through the app. The app provides step-by-step installation and setup instructions. Depending on the level of your chosen Protection Plan, you can use many of the enhanced features (see below).
Protection Plans: Nextbase offers three subscription-based Protection Plans for the iQ 4K dash camera, each with the following features:

Live View: Live View allows you to monitor your vehicle from any camera (front, cabin, or rear-if connected). The Nextbase iQ app will display the video from one, two, or three cameras. Live View is ideal for employers, fleet owners, and parents of young drivers, because the camera allows you to view what is happening inside or outside the cabin at any time. You can even record a voice message when viewing Live View to be sent to the iQ Dash Cam to be played.
Smart Sense Parking: The camera can keep an eye on your parked vehicle with Smart Sense Parking mode. Built-in radar sensors in the Front Camera can sense if someone approaches your parked vehicle. The radar sensitivity can be adjusted in the iQ app to fine tune the coverage and prevent false alarms. If you add the iQ Rear Cam, radar coverage is increased for better protection.
Witness Mode: Witness Mode provides you additional peace of mind during critical moments when you feel in danger, including road rage or threatening situations. Using the Voice Command "Start Witness Mode," the iQ 4K starts recording and immediately shares the video to your emergency contacts, family, and friends.
Guardian Mode: Guardian Mode can be activated when the car owner is not in the vehicle. In the iQ app, you can set parameters for location limitation or maximum speed, and alert you if your limits are violated. This is a handy tool for parents of teen drivers to assure you that your vehicle is being driven safely, and within the geographic location you approve. You can also activate Guardian Mode when you turn over your vehicle to a mechanic or valet.
Roadwatch AI: The Roadwatch AI feature helps you identify oncoming traffic or obstacles as they approach. Artificial Intelligence can classify pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles, and track their movements as you watch. Roadwatch AI will show their approximate rate of speed and distance to give you an idea of their location.
Emergency SOS: Available only with a Protect Plus subscription, Emergency SOS will automatically notify emergency services in the event of an accident when the driver is unresponsive. G-sensors in the camera can detect when a collision has occurred, and the camera begins a countdown, allowing the driver to respond with a few seconds. If no response is given, the camera will automatically send out an alert to emergency services of the incident. Included in the alert are location, as well as pre-entered medical details, blood type, and emergency contact information of the driver and/or passenger. The sensitivity of the G-sensors is adjustable.
what3words: In order to specify precise locations, what3words has divided the world into 3 meter squares and identified each one with three distinct words. The Nextbase iQ 4K uses "w3w" to determine your exact location in case you need assistance. Typically, a data connection is required to use what3words, but the iQ 4K has the ability to identify your precise location even when you're offline. Pressing the w3w button on the dash cam screen will bring up your location's unique 3 word address, allowing others to quickly pinpoint your location. You can share your w3w address with emergency services, or to friends to help them locate you.
Power Requirements: The iQ 4K Dash Cam comes with two options to power the camera. You can power the camera from your vehicle's OBD II port, located below the driver's side dashboard, with the included cable. The cable can be routed along the frame of the windshield to the camera location behind the rear-view mirror. The cable terminates into a right-angled camera connector the plugs into the slot at the top of the adhesive mount. Another connector is provided for the optional iQ Rear Cam. The camera can also be powered directly from the vehicle's fuse box. Fuse taps are provided for four different types of fuses to assure compatibility with your vehicle's fuse box.
Low-Power Cut Off: While your vehicle is parked, the OBD connection will provide enough power to send you notifications if there is an incident. If your vehicle's battery voltage drops below a certain level, the camera will stop sending notifications and automatically turn off to save power. Typically, a healthy battery will have sufficient voltage for about 6 days before it reaches that low-battery threshold. It is recommended that you drive the vehicle weekly to keep the battery charged. If the vehicle will remain unattended for an extended period of time, you should unplug the camera to avoid draining the battery.
