Product Research

Features

6-Zone App-Controlled Amplifier: The OSD Audio MAX12 is is a powerful 6-zone, app-controlled audio matrix amplifier that lets you distribute audio from up to six sources out to six zones in commercial or residential systems. Key features include a 6x6 audio input/output matrix with six pairs of amplified speaker outputs; iOS and Android app control and configuration for each of the six zones; individual trigger outputs for each zone; IR emitters for controlling each individual source as well as all sources; optional keypads for zone operation (sold separately), and more.

Note: The Nero MAXl12 will require a hardwired Ethernet connection to your wireless router for app control from your smartphone or tablet.

Audio Inputs: The OSD Audio MAX12's six audio input sources can be routed to any or all of the output zones via the OSD Control app. Input sources include:

  • Inputs 1-4: four pairs of unbalanced stereo RCA audio inputs
  • Input 5: one stereo 3.5mm (1/8") jack
  • Input6: one optical digital audio input and a second 3.5mm input; signals on the optical input will override audio on the analog input

Speaker Outputs: The MAX12 features a high-efficiency Class D amplifier to power the six speaker outputs. Euroblock (Phoenix) connectors provide the six pairs (zones) of speaker outputs. Each zone can power a pair of speakers in stereo mode or bridged for a single mono output. A corresponding Bridge switch for each Zone activates bridge mode.

  • 80W x 2 (per zone) @ 4-ohms
  • 40W x 2 (per zone) @ 8-ohms
  • 120W x 1 (per zone) @ 8-ohms Bridged

Preamp Outputs: Zones 1-3 on the MAX12 each include a stereo pair of RCA outputs for running a line-level signal to additional amplifiers.

AGC: A rear-panel switch lets you activate the AGC (Automatic Gain Control) feature that will automatically bring low-level input signals up to a preset level for optimum performance.

Trigger Outputs: The OSD Audio Nero MAX12 includes six 3.5mm trigger outputs, one for each zone, that will output a 12VDC signal when that zone is selected, letting you automatically activate an amplifier, motorized projection screen or other electronic device in that zone.

IR Emitters: Six 3.5mm IR emitter ports let you remotely control each zone's source device that features an IR input.

System Control: Three rear-panel 3.5mm ports are used for the following:

  • PA: 12VDC trigger input sets all zones to input Source 1
  • EXT Mute: The whole system can be temporarily muted by connecting an optional relay closure switch (sold separately). When closed, the switch will short-circuit the input and mute the unit.
  • Control Out: The Control Out jack outputs a 12VDC signal when any zone is on and 0V when all zones are off.

LAN Port: An RJ-45 LAN port lets you connect the MAX12 to your wireless router using a Cat5e/6 cable (not included).

Note: The OSD Audio Nero MAX12 requires a hardwired Ethernet connection to your wireless router for wireless app control from your smart device.

RS-232: An RS-232 port lets you control the MAX12 via a PC or an optional home automation control device connected to the port. A corresponding rear-panel 2-way switch determines how the MAX12 will be controlled - LAN or RS-232.

App Control: The OSD Audio Nero MAX12 lets you configure and control each output zone through the OSD Control app, available for iOS and Android devices. The OSD Control app features the same control options provided on the optional OSD Audio Keypads (sold separately). Setup and control options include:

  • Zone 1-6 activation and control
  • Name each zone
  • Adjust Volume, Bass, Treble, Balance, and select a zone Source
  • Turn all zones On/Off simultaneously
  • Select Party Mode: activates all zones and applies the same audio source to all
  • Turn the select zone Off
  • Mute the selected zone
  • Save: custom settings for each zone can be saved and recalled

Optional Expansion Ports: Two Expansion Ports (In/Out) on the rear panel let you use the included ribbon cable to connect the MAX12 to up to two additional MAX12s (3 total) for up to 18 playback zones. A corresponding rear-panel 3-way switch (Master, Slave 1, Slave 2) determines which MAX12 will be providing the six audio sources for all of the connected zones.

Optional Keypads: An RJ-45 Keypad port on the MAX12 rear panel lets you connect up to 6 optional keypad controllers (sold separately) for individual control in each zone. OSD keypads give you the same control options as the app does, letting you select sources for that zone as well as send IR control information for controlling the selected zone playback device.

Front-Panel Power Button with Zones Status LEDs: The MAX12 features a front-panel Power On/Off button and 6 zone status LEDs that will light when the corresponding zone is active.

Power: The OSD Audio MAX12 includes a 3-prong AC power cord and can operate on 115V/60Hz - 230V/50Hz.

Mounting Options: The OSD MAX12 features pre-installed feet for placing the amplifier on a table or shelf. Rack ears on the amp also allow it to be installed in a standard size 19" wide equipment rack. The MAX12 takes up 2U of rack space after removing the feet.

Q
I have 6 Sonos ports I plan to use with this amp, will each Sonos port be able to turn on individual zones via 12v trigger? And will each individual zone auto power off when the Sonos port goes to sleep?
garrett  Aug 29, 2024
1 answer
A
The OSD NERO MAX12 does not feature individual 12-volt trigger inputs for each zone, Garrett. The MAX12 does feature individual 12-volt outputs for controlling external devices in each zone. You can use 6 Sonos ports for input and complete zone separation, but ports 5 and 6 will need to be connected with an RCA to 3.5mm adapter as zones 5 and 6 on the NERO MAX12 amp feature a 3.5mm input only. You'll need to hardwire the OSD NERO MAX12 with an ethernet connection and first use the OSD app control feature to turn on and select your zones, then select your Sonos app and individual zones for music playback through Sonos. Even if the power is on, each zone will remain in Standby mode until the zone is activated by command from either OSD Control App, keypad, or RS232 according to OSD.
