Moving-coil design for clarity and definition

Vinyl lovers have long prized moving-coil cartridges for their clear, spacious sound. The hand-wound copper coils in the Eroica LX's are suspended in a low-mass magnetic circuit featuring a powerful rare-earth permanent magnet. It also boasts a refined, carefully shaped Gyger II diamond stylus that minimizes friction and wear on your treasured LPs, so you can enjoy them for a lifetime.

Note: We recommend using an MC-compatible external phono preamp with selectable or variable cartridge loading.

About Goldring

Goldring has been around since 1906, when two Czech brothers started making parts for gramophones in their Berlin factory. They trademarked the "gold ring" as a mark of quality 20 years later, and the name stuck.

The company has been based in England since 1933, and their "pickups" became audiophile staples during the heyday of hi-fi audio in the 1960s and 1970s. Goldring continues to develop refined cartridges for turntable enthusiasts, adding to their unbroken legacy of over 100 years of quality craftsmanship that survives to this day.

Features

Goldring Eroica LX Moving Coil (MC) Cartridge: The Eroica LX, by Goldring, is a low-output moving-coil cartridge featuring the famous Gyger II diamond stylus profile. This nude, fine-line elliptical type stylus with a 6 µm lesser radius, delivers smooth, extended highs with low distortion and reproduces a highly detailed and dynamic sound. To take proper advantage of this, the pick-up coils are hand-wound on a pure iron armature and suspended in a magnetic circuit of advanced design featuring low mass and powerful rare earth magnets. The low output Eroica LX offers an exceptionally high standard of performance and reliability and must be used with an amplifier which features a dedicated moving coil phono input.

  • Efficient Magnetic Circuit: The Eroica LX uses a neodymium (NdFeB), rare-earth, permanent magnet; the strongest type commercially available. This gives Goldring the opportunity to shorten the magnetic circuit in the cartridge and still achieve the required field strength in the pole shoe gap. In this way the overall mass of the cartridge has been reduced to help improve trackability and make it compatible with a wider range of tonearms.
  • Low Mass Pocan Body: The Eroica LX uses a strong one piece body which holds the fixed parts securely in place. Made from a special type of ultra-rigid, glass reinforced polyester called Pocan, the body can be tightly bolted to the head shell for maximum efficiency and optimum sound quality. Because Pocan has a high strength-to-mass ratio, the overall mass of the Elite is kept below 6.0 g.
  • Expert Adjustment: Each Eroica LX cartridge is hand-built and then individually adjusted for azimuth and compliance by Goldring experts. The correct setting of stylus azimuth (or horizontal tracking angle) is essential for the maintenance of a proper stereo sound stage. Badly adjusted azimuth can cause uneven channel balance and increased crosstalk between channels which would severely degrade the stereo image. Correct compliance ensures that the cartridge has an even frequency response within the specified limits and will be compatible with all low to medium-mass tonearms.

Note: This cartridge is designed to fit turntables that feature a standard 1/2" mount. It is not compatible with P-Mount style turntables.

Specifications:

A
We cannot quantify stylus lifespan due to the many variables involved, Laurence. When taken care of properly, a good stylus can last for years of listening enjoyment!
