I have this amp with the Alpine PSS-23wra system I installed in my 2020 Jeep Gladiator. Sounds great but I have a popping noise (crackling noise) at higher volumes in the Kenwood Excelon 6x9's if I set bass and mid's close to 0 or higher. (Have to keep the fade at -3 or lower to avoid the popping sound. Doesn't happen with the front speakers and doesn't happen if I fade all the way to rear on the radio, which is the 6x9's. What could be the issue? I used the MB Quart conversion kit for the roll bar speakers. Thanks.

It is impossible for me to diagnose your issue from here Kevin, but to me it sounds like a little bit of distortion. I think it is very interesting that it is only apparent at certain fade amounts, and not when you are listening at higher volume with the fade all the way to the Kenwood Excelon 6x9's in the rear. The first thing I would advise checking is that your gain is set properly, and also if you are not running any high-pass filter on the full range channels you can apply that feature on the amp to see if the distortion/popping ceases. How do I properly bridge this amp to my front door speakers? I have a Kenwood KMM 332 deck and 2 sets of RCA running out of it to the amp. My door speakers are Polk DB 6502 and i have speaker wire running back to the amp. I have the amp set to 2ch, and need help with the connection of the speaker wires from the door speakers, to the speaker wire from the amp.

I would be happy to assist, Michael. Bridged wiring for the Left speaker you will use White as the positive and Green/Black for the negative. Right speaker uses Violet for the positive and Gray/Black as the negative. Individually tape up and do not connect the remaining four speaker leads. When bridging you'll want to use the front gain and filter dipswitches, the rears are bypassed in bridge mode. I hope this helps!

No action needed here, Angela. The Alpine KTP-445U automatically senses the impedance of speakers connected, no adjustments to make! If you are using 3-ohm speakers, you will get the same 45-watts RMS on each channel with no special adjustments to worry about. I hope this helps!

The 2 mounting brackets that come with that amp to attach it to the ILX-W650 are not something we sell independently but you may be able to get just that part directly from them. Greetings Larry, and thank you for your question. Unfortunately the KTP 445U is a more universal amplifier. Its not going to attach to the chassis of any stereo unless you fabricate some type of bracket. It is also wider than the 7 inch stereo chassis. I guess look in the dash's radio cavity and see if you have 8 inches of width.

Since you are using an Alpine head unit, using the Alpine KTP-445A will make the connection between the two components a faster and simpler install since the 'A' is for Alpine specific units and the 'U' comes with a universal RCA inputs for any other aftermarket radio.

Depends on the car, some manufacturers use a 4 channel output from the deck and have resistors inline to make a woofer/tweeter component set, some have an external amp and DSP... in the case of say a 15+ wrx you can power all 6 stock speakers with 4 channels.

You are correct, it will do a great job of amplifying sound to those speakers. If they are factory speaker, probably to much though. The power to your radio harness is most likely the same as the '12 Acc' as your radio probably does not have power until you have turned your ignition key. I tapped into this power line going to my OEM factory radio. There is a second power wire that turns the amp on/off. Most factory radios (my 1996 included) have an 12v output that does not receive power until the radio is turned on. This is specifically designed to switch amplifiers/CDs on/off, because they don't have a physical power switch. You should use a physical switch if your radio does not have such an output. If you connected this second wire also to the ACC, each time you turned on/off your radio, you would get a loud pop. Ground connected to the chassis is probably preferred. My car had an empty captive M8 nut that I have used to connect ground wires for all the accessories that I have added. It is probably best to find a factory ground point as it would have/cause less electrical noise. But, I did not worry about this as the only ground point I found was much further away from the radio and amplifier.

There are 2 power wires. one is red and should be connected directly to the car's battery. The other is yellow and should be connected to a 12v source that is powered on when the ignition key is turned on. I ran a wire from the car battery to the red amp wire and for the yellow wire I tapped into a power outlet .(like a cigarette lighter) in the dash. I am assuming you're using this amp with a stock head unit and want to connect it to the HU speaker outputs and the amp outputs to the speakers. Don't forget a good chassis ground!

I have. Make sure your vehicle has the factory fuse of 15A or bigger. The 12v connection will be for your power but is also connected to your ignition. The remote wire acts as a redundancy so you can power off the amp with the radio. Check the manual for both types of wiring recommendations. Hope this helps.

You don't, the B&O systems have their own amp/processor unit, you'd have to bypass that and add a DSP to get something that sounds close to what you have. Now if you're also replacing all the speakers and using passive crossovers (or a DSP for active crossover network) then it's more than possible but to be honest you'd probably be better off either leaving the system alone or replacing everything for aftermarket.

a 10 speaker system is tuned specifically for the Audi with a center channel. Each of the Alpine amps will accept up to 4 speaker inputs and outputs. However, each individual channel will have to be tuned to accommodate the configuration for more than 4 speakers in a car. If you are planning on installing 10 speakers into a vehicle with an amplifier, you may want to consult with a Crutchfield expert to determine if the 4 channel is the most effective option.

Hi Doug! If you are going to bridge the Alpine KTP-445U, you will need to switch the 2/4 channel input switch to the 2 ch. input mode. Then connect the output speaker wiring in bridged mode. The wiring is included with the Alpine power pack. I only use alpine products and I never go below type R. For a sub, you really only need one type X. Use two only if your constipated. You will hear every tick and chime in your favorite song and will sometimes hear something in the song that you never heard before. A background voice, or instrument coming out of them great sounding type R speakers. Enjoy.

Hello. I am considering purchasing this to amplify my JBL 3ohm door speakers / dash tweeters. I have an aftermarket stereo, a Kenwood DMX9706S with a built-in amp. Its rated at 22 watts RMS / 50 peak x 4 channels. I do see with this Alpine amp that its rated 45 watts RMS / 90 peak x 4 channels so I would imagine I would hear an improvement. Just want to make sure because I am brand new with car audio. Don't want to spend the money / labor to not hear a difference. Would this be a noticeable power upgrade? Or not worth it? Thanks.

I took out the factor amp and used the same wire harness. Used the same power wire,so no need to run a power wire to the battery,But the factory speakers need to be upgraded.they can't handle the power.also the rear speakers have four wires one for tweeters and woofers.need to only run the woofer wires.need to get a factor. Yes that PowerPack would be an excellent choice to pair with those Polk speakers and the stock head unit. It comes with a speaker level input harness to tap into the factory radio speaker outputs. If your factory radio has a 15 amp (or higher) fuse you can even use the same power circuit.

I replaced the cheap paper dash tweeters that have a crossover built in with the front door speakers. I wouldn't worry about blowing them with this amp but if the ohms are low they might be really loud and alter your imaging.

This is from the Crutchfield install video: Installing the Power Pack is really simple. It connects between the stereo and the original Alpine wiring harness. First you'll have to remove your stereo from the dash. Carefully pull off the trim ring as we've done here and use the removal tools that came with your stereo to release the locking clips on the sides. Then pull out the stereo and carefully unplug the wires and set it aside. Next find a place to mount the Power Pack behind your dash. Alpine made the wires long enough to reach the stereo from just about anywhere in the dash. In our case, we were easily able to stick the Power Pack right behind the Jeep's glove box. Now it's time to hook it up. Plug one end of the Power Pack's wires into the harness that's already connected to your cars wiring, then grab the stereo and plug the other connector from the Power Pack into the back of it. One nice thing is that the plugs only fit one way and that makes it easy to get right.

I replaced the front door speakers and purchased new 6x9s. Did some research found out the amplifier went bad, Apparently it's a common issue. I need to know if there is any specifics to what kind of amp I can put back in it? Not talking about the size/dimensions. Intending to purchase a 4 or 5channel amp.

I am uncertain of that. I put mine in my glovebox so that I had the ability to adjust the gain whenever I liked for purposes of everyday listening and then tailgating for concerts and football games. Plus, I was able to keep the amp cooler because it will get hot when volume is turned up high.

Yes, this will work with a factory head unit. You don't need a harness, but buying RCA to speaker wire connections make the job easier. If you don't know how to wire an amp, do yourself a favor and pay to have it installed. There's a lot that can go wrong. A lot of folks complain about hissing with this amp, because it wasn't installed and calibrated correctly.

I used 12Gauge power ground kit that Crutchfield recommended( I also ran a factory amp bypass kit so remote/speaker wires were all 18ga). The amp runs about a 16gauge, but I would do the 12 again if I had to do it again

I have a 07 Miata, with bose. I am installing a pioneed nex, and Focal ISU 200, both bought at Cruthfield. The problem is the bose system is 1 ohm so I need to change to 4 ohm. This amp in 4 channel mode may not be enough to power the Focals. I dont care about the rear speakers in the back, they are a waste. I think this amp has a switch to turn it to 2 channels. If I did that would it increase the power to the front, and give me 90 per channel, enough for those focals. Any other ideas? Otherwise this little amp looks perfect

I do not have a remote turn on lead on my HU and the instructions state...If the head unit does not have a remote turn-on or power antenna lead then.... the remote turn-on lead of your KTP-445U must be connected to a switched power source (ignition) in the vehicle. Be sure to use a 3A fuse as close as possible to this ignition tap. Using this connection method, the KTP445U will turn on and stay on as long as the ignition switch is on. My unit is wired directly to the battery and works fine without using the remote turn on lead. Am I missing something here? Not sure how my unit is working without the remote turn on lead connected.

Yes, I wired this in with my radio's 10A fuse. If I had to do it over again, I would buy some extra sterioo wire and install this in the glove box. I may go back and do this. Just would like to be able to adjust the amplifier periodically. Overall very happy with the setup.

I installed mine in a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. It shared its power with a JVC marine grade head unit. Even at full volume I never had a problem. It was fused for 10A. Nice little amp. I'd buy it again. I no longer have the Jeep so I can't run any test for you,sorry.

I do not know what head unit you are running, but on mine I plugged my powered subwoofer into the subwoofer output on the head unit. If yours does not offer that out put, my guess, not an expert opinion, would that you would run it off before the amp making sure you have a crossover on the line before your subwoofer if it does not have an internal one.

Except that now it only works intermittantly because both the pin connector plugs into each side of the amp have worn out and are now loose and the only remedy is to replace both pin connector plugs. Technically, what you have is 2 channels if your components use a driver. The answer is it depends on the requirements of the speakers. Don't expect 320w 6x9's, or 300+w components (at 2 ohms) to not cause the amp to go into protection, especially when summertime comes. Maybe if you have it in the cab or floor area where air conditioning can get to it, it may not be as much of an issue. Chances are your speakers aren't that rating, but it may be better to either use higher ohm speakers or a different amp.

The amp in the HU is bypassed completely. You'd still only have 45 watts RMS X 4. This is simply just a small amp.

No. The output of the Alpine amp is 45 watts x 4 at Ohms RMS. The Alpine can receive inputs of either line level or speaker level (which would be your HU's 45 watts x 4), but the Alpine will only put out 45 watts x 4 RMS. If your aftermarket HU already puts out 45 watts to four channels you don't really need this amp.

Tristin: You will just have the power of the final stage of your alpine amp but I would bet the alpine amp is much cleaner than the 45watts out of the head unit. Best thing to do is if your head unit has pre-amp outputs connect those to the alpine pre-amp inputs this will be the cleanest sound. Otherwise connect your head unit (speaker) outputs to alpine speaker inputs. The cleanest sound and the preferred way to connect is preamps out of head unit to preamp inputs to the alpine amp. I have this power pack installed in my 2014 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab. The amp is bridged. I have JBL GTO938 speakers in my front doors. I'm confused by the Minimum Impedance Bridged. The GTO's have an impedance of 2ohms. The power pack MIB is 4 ohms. Are these speakers sufficient for this amp with it bridged or would I get better sound out of speakers with 4 ohm impedance? I have a set of Polk DB651 in the rear doors (60W RMS) and Polk DB6501 in the front doors (100W RMS) and I have an Alpine MRV-F340 full sized amp I bought to power them (55W RMSx4). If your limited on space to mount a amp the Ktp is a awesome little amp , but if you already have the Mvr I would just use it . Although when mounting the KTP you don't have to run a big power cable ,you can just use the supplied wire with the ktp and wire it to your fuse panel . I have one running 4 alpine 6.5 in a GMC Sierra and think it's a great little amp ,it's compact and sounds great.

I definitely recommend using whatever crossovers came packaged with your JBL speakers. They are made to work with the provided midbass & tweeter specifically. You can still use the HPF setting on the Alpine power pack if the JBL midbass drivers are not rated to play the deeper frequencies. I hope that helps! Hi Craig, First, I didn't put this in a Jeep Wrangler so I am not sure of the landscape you have, but I did put it in both a 2005 and 2010 Toyota Corolla, which may have a smaller interior than the Wrangler. It's a great little amp and I had multiple mounting choices: 1) behind the dash right under the Pioneer head unit I installed (chose this option), 2) in the console near the shift lever, 3) under/behind the glove compartment. It's small and can easily be held in place with a couple nice sized zip ties. Coupled with the pioneer, it made a huge difference in the Corolla's. I would buy this again. All the best! Kent

In unbridged mode (4x45W) connections are the same for 2 to 4 ohms. The amp is current limited so power output is the same with either. In bridged mode, (2x90W) this should only be used when driving 4 ohm speakers.

I installed in Honda Pilot using stock speakers (cheap) and no issue with unwanted vibration or rattling. Differetn vehicles, so prob not direct comparison. but still a decent amp for the money.

Hey James, I personally haven't, but I don't see why you couldn't. The sync shouldn't make a difference because there should still be all the basic wires needed to hook it up. What I would do is get behind your head unit and see what you have to work with. If you can identify all the needed wires you should be good to go.

I put mine into my 2007 Chevy Colorado and It was a very easy install. Basically all I had to do was cut and splice the unit in. It is even easier if you have an alpine unit as you can just plug it in. But all I did was cut the wires coming off the stereo and solder them to the input on the amp and then solder on the wires going to the speakers to the output. Then I just found a nice spot in behind the stereo and ziptied it down. It also provides a heck of a lot of power for its size I can really have my bass up more now and get much less distortion at higher volumes.

No, but I have it in my 1990 Jeep YJ. It will work in any application. I know it's a popular solution for Harley's as well. I've been very happy with this tiny little amp. It's quite impressive considering the small size.

Can you use an add-a-circuit and plug that into the fuse box to power this instead of running a line to the battery. Radio has a 10amp fuse in the back and my vehicle's radio fuse is 10amp. My cigarette lighter fuse is a 15amp. Can I plug the add-a-circuit into the lighter fuse?

This DOES NOT require a direct line to battery. You simply tap off of the wiring from your head unit. I used it inmmy Harley and it absolutely cranks and I i didn't have to get creative at all with the wiring. Cheers, d

It has been my experience after using this, and many other amps, that the output voltage has a minimal effect on sound quality. You just have to turn the gain up a little on the amp. These "Amp" ratings are taken with the head unit at full volume. And if sound quality is you goal, and not just "Loud", you won't notice. Being happy with the overall sound and audio controls of the head unit is much more important. OMHO

You will get a "cleaner" sound out of a head unit with 4V pre-outs. I switched from an older head unit with 2V to a newer one with 4V using this amp and it was a noticeable difference.

That depends on how much of an audiophile you are. The average everyday person will not notice the difference. I use a 2 volt output right now and have used up to a 7 volt output from an older Eclipse. Really not much of difference in daily use. Your choice in speakers is more important.

Dont need to run to battery run it off your red power from vehicle harness. Dont need large guage it is not that many watts just 45watts front and 45 watts back.

to power the amp you dont need to run any wires to the battery. you want to make a 3-way connection with the yellow 12v wires coming from the cars wire harness, the back of the stereo and the one coming from the amp. hope this answers your question

I've used both, it can help or reduce good sound quality. Be aware if you set your low frequency (for the speakers) like trying to reproduce sub woofer sound quality you run the risk of blowing the output transistors in the power amp!

I left the amp at full frequency since my head unit has enough control and adjustments for me. I've been very happy with this unit as it has been plenty powerful to drive my four speakers - Alpine type R components in front, Infinity Kappa in back (roll bar ~Jeep). The small size is great as I was able to completely hide this and the subwoofer amp in a very out-of-the-way place.

Yes, it is bridgeable. There is a tiny dip switch on one end that allows you to select 2 channel or 4 channel mode. Also instructions for wiring either mode.

Will be replacing head unit with a Kenwood excelon KDC-X599 using the PAC os-5 integration adapter and replacing the the front door speakers with Kenwood components and the rears with Kenwood coaxials. My question is after installing this will it amplify my door chimes and back up assistant beeper to ear shattering levels ?

HI, You need to run a wire from the battery to the amp. It requires a thicker gauge wire and a inline fuse. When i purchased this i also got a amp wire kit. This is a great amp and no problems with it.

It depends on the amperage handling of your head unit. If it can meet the specs of the alpine then you can, of course you still would need a fuse in line. If it canonot supply the amperage, then you would have to run a line to your battery with an in line fuse.

If money is not a problem I would go for a more powerful 4 channel amp. Power is important but the THD is just as important. Be sure and check the (total harmonic distortion) at different power levels. Some amps have good specs. Power wise but they get noisy when the power is increased. Hope this helped. Jackie L

2010 honda civic LX-s . Stock 160 watts stereo with 4 stock speaker. I Only upgraded JL HD amplifier 750/1 , JL 10inch W6 sealed box & Kinetik HC1400R "1400 Watt 12 Volt" & No capacitor. My subwoofer is wired with one of the rear speaker with Hi/Low Level Line Converter. If I use Alpine power pack will it affect nothing? Obviously the unit does not have rca outputs, so can I buy two stereo line level converters to convert the speaker outputs on the head unit to line level, then rewire the output of the ktp 445 to the door speakers? Josh The ktp445 that I purchased, I installed behind a Kenwood exelon on Rockford fosgate speakers. So I can't give a direct answer for this application. I have however used this method to hook a JL 1500 mono amp to a factory head unit and it seems to function just fine. I guess it would depend on the quality of the hi to low pass converter that you use. I would not advise hooking a ktp445 to a factory speaker though. As it probably would not last very long. Over all, on a set of aftermarket speakers, as long as the gains on both converter and amp are set correctly. Should be OK. Give it a go man.

I was able to use the RCA but I see no reason you could not use line level. I don't believe the sound quality would suffer. I'm very happy with this amp. It fit into the space I had to work with (it's about the size of an average TV remote) and is very adequate driving a pair of Alpine type R components and a pair of Infinity Kappas.

I had no RCA units on my stock head unit. I did a pop test to make sure there wasn't an amplifier somewhere in the car that I ididn't see (there wasn't). Next, I ran a separate power line from battery to the Alpine KTP, cut the existing speaker wires from the head unit and wired directly to the Alpine KTP and then from the KTP back to the four speakers in my car. No need for line converters in my application. I ran a separate powered sub.

I have this amp hooked up behind a kenwood DDX470. But I'm also using the GMOS 044 for my Chevy Cruze. I'm going to bridge this amp so it's feeding 90 watts rms to my front Alpine SPS610c components. Now when connecting the output wires of the amp it should be hooked up AFTER the GMOS module? That way I don't feed 90 watts into the module and fry it. Also is it ok to ground this amp to the radio chassis?

I strongly urge you to ground the amp to bare metal in the car chassis. Not familiar with the GMOS, but the amp should be the last thing on the way to the speakers themselves.

After the adapter for sure. Rule of thumb is to have all power and grounds, especially grounds, to be common, or from the same source. I use distribution blocks that disperse the power and ground grime one source for all audio related gear. Really helps ward off noise.

I'm running my amp off of same power lead as my HU but only running a pair of tweeters. You have to make sure the wire gauge and fuse can handle the combined power rating of all components.

It's powered right off of the head unit power feed. So you shouldn't have to run another wire to the battery or add anymore fuses.

The goal is to have a fuse between the amp and the battery that's 15 amp or better. So the radio fuse in the fuse box is an option if its high enough.

Hi Maurice, This is the detail in the manual. I went with option A a year ago and have not had any problems at all. It works great. Battery Lead (Yellow) There are two options: a. Connect battery lead to OEM radio fused circuit The OEM radio circuit has a fuse to protect your vehicle's electrical system in case of a short circuit. Do not connect the battery lead to the OEM radio circuit if the fuse rating is less than 15A. b. Connect battery lead directly to BATT+ Be sure to add a 15A fuse (sold separately) as close as possible to the battery's ( +) terminal.

The amplifier has a regulated output which is why the 2-ohm output isn't greater than the 4-ohm output. It should work just fine with the 2-ohm factory speakers. When used in vehicles with a factory amplifier, the factory amp will need to be bypassed (this may result in lost speaker channels, if factory amp has more than 4 channels). I'm looking to use this or something similar to use with my Kenwood KDC-BT955HD head unit, and power two door speakers (Pioneer TS-A1605C component speakers), and then bridge the other two channels to power a Bose subwoofer taken from an RSX Type-S Bose soundsystem (google it, I can't provide links). Will this work? I know the Bose sub needs 100w, but I can't find any info on its resistance.

If you buy speakers and do not change your head (stereo), you need to power them with a amp. This is good to power 2 front and 2 rear speakers. And is small enough to mount behind your head, instead of a normal size amp which you would mount in the trunk.

Short answer is no, this unit is not the best choice for a subwoofer amp. The amp is 45 watts by four channels, or bridgeable to roughly 100 watts by two channels. So you would need either a Dual Voice Coil (DVC) subwoofer, or two subwoofer drivers, to take advantage of both bridged channels. Also, while this is a nice amp, the crossover choices aren't really set up for subwoofer use. For a single subwoofer driver, or for multiple subwoofers wired together, you would be better off with a dedicated mono channel subwoofer amplifier.

I have not done one in a Tundra, but I put this in my Harley with polk DB speakers. IT PACKS POWER!!! I was able run it without even bridging it and it cranks two 6.5s with deeper bass and crystal clear mids and highs. I used do custom installs for a living. This amp would've fit any where and made my life a lot easier. It's compact but packs intense power. It would be a great add on to any factory stereo. Feel free to email me with added questions.
