Getting the most from upgraded speakers
Jaye from Mount Juliet, TN on 4/12/2023
2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
I upgraded the speakers in my 2022 Silverado with JL Audio door speakers and Pioneers in the dash. Alone they were a decent upgrade but adding this amp has brought it up to a whole other level. It is a huge improvement over the factory system! Installation under passenger seat was simple enough. I also got a harness, an amp wiring kit, and connectors. I should've order speaker wires too but was able to get some locally. I set the gain using test tones on Apple Music and they are almost all the way down. It does not get hot at all. Just slightly warm.
Pros: Simple install. Doesn't get hot
Cons: None

Power and clarity comes in small packages
Kurt from Lake Forest, CA on 9/19/2022
2021 Toyota Highlander
This little amp packs a punch! I wasn't expecting this to add a whole lot to the sound quality or volume, but after adding it and dialing in the cross overs and gain, I am very impressed. I chose this so I could keep my factory head unit and not have to mess with making all the tied in systems and dash controls work with an aftermarket unit. It was also small enough to fit behind my radio without having to install in another location. My only concern is how hot it will run back there, but obviously this was designed to be installed like this, so hopefully it will continue to perform well. Install required a LOT of wire connections for my vehicle, but Crutchfield's tech support provided the wiring diagrams I needed to make sure it was setup correctly. Could I have bought this for slightly cheaper somewhere else? Yes. Why didn't I? Because the support Crutchfield gives you to install makes it as simple as it can be and they helped me troubleshoot issues and provide me updated diagrams (thanks Ben from tech support!) needed to make the proper connections. Save yourself some headaches and go with Crutchfield, and if you are looking for more power and cleaner sound with a factory radio, I highly reccommend this amp.
Pros: Fits behind radio in most cars Taps into existing power and ground (if 15amp fuse or higher) Powerful and clear
Cons: A lot of wire connections to make Not the easiest to install

This tiny amp gives pretty great volume and sound quality to my aftermarket set up, but I find it concerning that it is running so hot. Unless I have it tuned incorrectly and it's clipping. Otherwise I think there's plenty of power for a great system.
Pros: Small Plenty of power Flexible wiring options Good sound quality
Cons: Seems to run warm Runs best with rca, but only comes with female rca connectors. Will need rca adapters.

Low Power and High Noise
David from Greenville, OH on 5/5/2022
2016 Chevrolet Cruze
I would like to throw my review in here as well with my experience with his amp. I've been using this amp for around a year and haven't been happy with it from day one. Day one I didn't see any noticeable sound improvement. Gain matching did little to nothing. Like some of the other reviewers have noted there is a noticeable hum in the speakers when on low/no volume. My grounds on are solid and I've been able to fix any other troubles I may have had with other pieces of equipment but this one is the amps issue. My factory amp actually puts more oomf into my speakers than this amp and has no noise! I'm currently shopping for another aftermarket amp to power my front stage as well as possibly swapping out the factory radio for an aftermarket headunit! Good Luck!
Pros:
Cons: No noticeable sound improvement, Very noticeable buzz with low/no volume.

Spectacular little amp.
Frank from CONNERSVILLE, IN on 8/8/2021
Bought this amp for my 2017 Subaru Impreza. Wanting to improve my stock system. Replaced stock speakers with Infinity reference in all doors. The simplicity of integrating this amp with the stock system was amazing. If your stock system has a 15A at the radio, you can power it tapping into the stock wiring harness. No need to run power and ground wires. Sound quality is amazing. Had to set the gains close to 0. You will not be disappointed.
Pros: Easy installation, quality product. Can't go wrong with Alpine. Highly recommend.

Alpine Class D gets an A+
Crutchfield customer from Montgomery, TX on 6/7/2021
Bought an ILX-W650 almost a year ago knowing that I would add this baby and wow, what a treat it was. I elected to run a decent set of components (2-way) Polk up front and hid this thing behind the head unit in my son's Focus where there was still enough room to hide my mason jar full of money that I saved not wasting it on something more expensive. I kept the system simple and paired the front state with the Infinity 6001A mono pushing a dual VC Dayton reference 10 and this system will loosen fillings from your teeth or shatter a wine glass depending on the genre your decide to listen to. Alpine never lets you down with great products that sound fantastic across a broad price point. Class D is remarkable.
Pros: Small, powerful, well-equipped options, clear installation instructions
Cons: It sort of doesnt really fit when mounted to the back of a head unit because the wires stick out of the sides and unless you modify the install kit, heck that, that mount it with zip ties in the dash and you're off and running.

Not a purchase I'm proud of
Sterling from Lavon, TX on 1/1/2021
1994 Ford F Series
Disappointed. For 3/5 the price, I expected more than half the bang of the Fosgate mini. I suppose I just had higher expectations. The use of a dip switch to code the amp settings made me nauseous. On the bright side, it powers the speakers and improved the sound. It tucked nicely into the dash. Rather than the wiring being ported through the bottom of the unit, the side ported in and out and optional mounts provided made it more simple to place and install with a neat look.
Pros: Slim, sleek, simple to install
Cons: The sound wasn't very impressive. The use of a dip switch as a means of tuning literally made me physically ill.

Great power in a tight package. Don't expect to rattle the windows with this thing, but for a small, insulated cabin this is the perfect boost to a factory head unit. I paired the Power Pack with a pair of component front speakers and composite rear with a self-powered under-seat sub. I got a hiss in the tweeters and dialed the amp gain back to 50% to compensate. 1. Easy installation - wiring is straight-forward, it's small enough to fit in the dash with the head unit 2. Run dedicated power - yes you can tap into the power for the head unit (with a caveat of 15A minimum), but its safer to run a line to the battery. 3. Extras are nice - I love the ability to tweak the roll-off, the through-line for the 12v signal is a bonus

Great companion for a factory stereo
Crutchfield customer from Fairfax, VA on 11/23/2020
Installed on my 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT factory system with upgraded JBL Concert series coaxials and JBL Club series tweeters in the dash corners. It drives them well. Very clean and clear (as low as 0.03% THD at normal volume and only 1% after that). It has a few key features that I sought for factory system comparability: - speaker-level inputs - auto speaker level signal detection and amp turn-on - low power requirement (15 amp fuse, 12 ga power wire) - lower heat output than most amps. My only wish is that it had a separate speaker-level input harness with wires as long as the output harness (like Sony's mini amp does). After connecting 32 wires at the radio, I was not excited about connecting another 16 at the RCA leads of the amp! [I hope audio manufacturers will become aware of this unwanted extra step as more people opt to keep their new car's factory stereo instead of replacing it with an RCA output aftermarket unit.] But it was totally worth the extra work. Even my wife and daughter appreciate the difference.

Installed on a 2017 RAV4. Everything connected and installed just as advertised. Only draw back was the color of wires don't match. I called tech support and they emailed me a proper wiring diagram. The tech support was very aware that the wires wouldn't match. If they know this, why not send a vehicle specific diagram when someone orders this amp?The stock head unit now has a ton of power to feed our aftermarket JBL speakers. It has a punch that the car has never had before. The sound is incredible. Took about 3 hours to get everything buttoned up and placed just right. Found a place behind the Hvac controls to hide the amp. Would recommend if you aren't afraid of cutting your stock wiring and have a moderate understanding of stereo installation.
Pros: Ton of power in a small package
Cons: The color of the wires don't match. I had to call tech support. Why not just provide a wiring diagram with the instructions if you know they aren't going to match?

I have other Alpine products and I have to say this unit is very small and sounds great. I am by far not an audiophile, I just know what I think sounds good and this does the job that aftermarket head units with built in amps always seem to lack regardless of price point. Just took a star from them for a lackluster attempt at an install guide "6" is mislabeled as "9" and the two blue and white wires are explained but I did have to double check. Alpine does this for a living...bad docs = bad installs. They are fully aware we are a hazard to ourselves and have staff to make sure that risk is minimized,
Pros: Sounds great and unit can be tucked anywhere. Pros if you buy it from Crutchfield they fully support you and guide you along...Well done!!
Cons: Install doc needs to be reworked and idiot proofed. This is why I buy from Crutchfield ...I called and they answered every question I had (pleasantly I might add)

Intimdating to install but really cranks out power in my Jeep Wrangler
Crutchfield customer from Thousand Oaks, CA on 6/10/2020
2013 Jeep Wrangler
I installed this in a 2013 Jeep Wrangler JK with an aftermarket JVC marine head unit. I was really intimidated by the maze of wiring coming out of the back of the head unit. The steering wheel controls added to the mess. Thanks to the crutchfield installation video I figured it out. Fortunately on the Wrangler I was able to slide the amp between the head unit and glove box- an easy, perfect fit. I bought this amp for driving around with the doors and windows off. It does the job. Really cranks out the tunes! I didn't run an amp to the stock subwoofer. With this amp the bass coming out of the dash and soundbar speakers is more than enough (aftermarket speakers in both-plk db 652.) Sounds a thousand times better than the OEM system. Also note than you won't need a wiring kit to install it in a wrangler- just wire it into the head unit power and ground wires.
Pros: sounds great - plenty of volume and bass perfect fit in a jeep wrangler
Cons: Wiring is intimidating on a jeep with steering wheel audio controls.

Great little amp to add that extra power needed to get the most out of upgraded speakers. Adds just enough power to keep the door speakers from being drown out by a 10" subwoofer powered at 4 ohms/450 watts RMS. Very easy to install and can fit in many locations under or behind the dash. I mounted mine behind the glove box so it's hidden and out of the way, but still easy enough to get to if I need to ever adjust the gain or HPF settings.

I imagine this is a 5 star product. I'm only giving it 3 hear because I failed to understand up front I would need a wiring adapter to figure out the wiring. Nothing matched up color wise and after cutting some wires needlessly and scratching my head a bunch it occurred to me that I hadn't really thought this through at all. I installed some focal speakers last year and they were not performing up to their potential with the OEM head unit. The amp would have warmed the speakers up nicely I'm sure, but I would still be using that 2011 head. Decided to RMA this and purchase new head unit and am SO SO happy I did. The Alpine amp look and feels legit. Can't speak to sound quality as I didn't get that far with it.

Good buy!
Crutchfield customer from Fort Gibson, OK on 5/26/2020
Going into this purchase I knew the installation was going to be ...uh, involved. Into a '13 F-150 it went. The dash came out easier than I thought and with Crutchfield's support with the stock radios input/output pinout diagram that was emailed to me, it was straight forward and not at all difficult. So much so that I dug into the dash twice as I had the gain at 9 o'clock instead of 3 o'clock... as it plainly says on the instructions. I set gain at 2'oclock and buttoned everything up. Once I dialed in the stock radios bass, mid and highs the sound is punchy, crisp and clear. Just what was looking for.
Pros: Simple installation . Relatively inexpensive addition that sounds better than I expected.

Perfect amp if you just need to pump more power into a factory system.
Crutchfield customer from Lake Dallas, TX on 5/26/2020
2018 Jeep Wrangler (JL)
The KTP-445U Power Pack was perfect for my needs. Installed in a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL to drive the dash, knee panel, and soundbar speakers (I had previously upgraded those speaker), and it does the job perfectly. Since the Jeep has a 20A circuit for the stock head unit, I didn't even need to run a power wire to the battery (per Alpine, you can just tie into the power feed of your head unit). The small size allowed me to mount the amp in the glovebox compartment (it's mounted inside the dash above the glovebox), and now I can get enough volume to enjoy music when I'm driving with the doors and top removed. Completely happy with this product!
Pros: Low power requirement, small size, adjustible gains, ease of connection

Small amplifier with a great boost.
Miguel from JACKSONVILLE, NC on 3/23/2020
This compact amp gave my factory radio the boost it needed. I upgraded the speakers and the sound has significantly improved. By follwoing the instructions, it was a fairly simple install. I did run into a couple of issues that the techs at Cruthfield quickly helped me resolve, specifically assisting me in correcting the gain to reduce the static that initially was coming from my radio. One thing I love about this amp is that it senses the sound and immediatey turns on and eventually shuts down without havig to add additional on and off wiring. This is what makes purchasing an item through Cruthfield a great experience.
Pros: Compact, easy to install,
Cons: None from my point of view.

Absolutely love this amp! I installed this in my 2002 4runner and the speakers have so much power. But the best part is the fact that this has a built in High pass filter! Filters all the bass frequencies and makes it so the speakers are clear and don't rattle the door panels. I also have a subwoofer on a separate amp and use that for all the bass frequencies. Awesome for a stock radio boost!
Crutchfield customer from Temecula, CA on 2/10/2020
I installed this in my 2016 Tacoma, splicing the wires from the power pack to two Metra harnesses to do a direct plug and play application. Since my stock Entune radio is 20A, I could wire directly into the ground and 12v on the harness and did not have to run a line to the battery or ground to the chassis. At first it did not sound right, and was really sensitive. But I had neglected to set the dip switches on the power pack. Once I set the front and rear HPF switches to 60hz and to speaker input (not RCA), it worked perfectly (I'm not sure if those are the correct settings for my application, but it seems to have worked). I'm still finding the sweet spot with the gain settings but such an improvement in sound!! The only downside is I wish the wires were longer because there is not a lot of room behind my speaker to stash this, plus I have to remove my radio every time I want to adjust the gains. For reference, I have the stock radio, but have Rockford Fosgate door speakers that really needed the boost so I could get their full potential, and this mini-amp did the trick, wow!
Pros: Easy install, small size makes it easy to stow behind the radio, made my RF speakers sound amazing!
Cons: Wish the harnesses were longer to give more options of where to stash it.

Tiny - but packs a punch
Edmund from Philadelphia, PA on 10/23/2019
Technology has come a long way since I got in this game (via Crutchfield!) in the early 1980s. Class D topology curtesy of modern switching power supplies means high power levels and low current draw due to massive efficiency. The days of "where do I hide all these amps" are (thankfully) gone. Look, this isn't gonna win that "audio sound off competition", but it makes no claim to - instead this can be hidden in the dash or if you have to, under a seat, and deliver enough power to rock out most "daily driver" type cars. I was able to ditch a rack of old skool Sony XM MOSFET amps and intend tuck this under the seat and clean up my install! Thanks Alpine and Crutchfield!
Pros: Small Did I say it was small?
Cons: "only" 45watts x 4

Great Little Amp But Not as Great as sale price
Eric from Toano, VA on 7/14/2019
This Alpine delivers a respectable amount of clean power from a small package and relatively little power usage. This is my second 445U and both have performed well. Why 4 stars and not 5? It's mostly the price; it used to be $40 cheaper. At that price this amp would get five stars. Changing settings require removal of a window on the underside to access tiny Dip switches. These should be on the side (like the Kicker Key180) so they can be changed without complete amp removal. Also the 12 dB/octave hi-pass filters should be a more aggressive 18 or 24 dB/octave (the Kicker Key 180.4 is 24) to provide better protection for full range speakers.. Still, I would recommend this amp if the digital processing aspects of the Key 180.4 aren't needed; otherwise the Kicker is well worth the extra $10 (I've tried both in my car now). Can't tell the difference in S/N ratio between the two (75 v. 82, both are mediocre on this spec but I have no complaints).
Pros: Small, clean, low amp draw, bridegable for future expansion.
Cons: Costs about 30% more than it did a year ago. Dip switches inaccessible once amp is installed.

Chris from Long Island, NY on 6/4/2019
I decided to try this out for its form factor & it being an Alpine device. This amp was a total disappointment... I am running a 2018 kenwood dvd/nav head-unit & feeding the pre-amp inputs of the amp. Utilizing cal'd 0dB test-tones & a variety of music to set the gain (audio source - USB). I struggled trying to tune this amp for days but found that the clipping point occurs early and often, detracting from the listening experience and turning down the amp gain to avoid this you're not much better than a good aftermarket head-unit's on-board amp. I looked but couldn't find any Amp Dyno evals on this unit but after the install I decided to do some calculations... Doing the simple math, using ohm's law - it can't make what they claim - "45w x 4ch @ 4ohm" = 180w @ 13.5v (DC input pwr not AC output audio signal), this would require 13.3amps - but the integrated fuse is only 15a - while class D amps are much more efficient than A/B amps, they are not 100% efficient - at best they are 80% - which would mean at the rated output they would need 16amps - fuses generally need to be rated for 20% over the peak expected draw - this would dictate that the minimum fuse size should be 20amps to deliver the rated output. If you're looking for a quality class D amp in a similar form-factor - consider the JL Audio MX280/4 (50x4 @4ohms). Amp Dyno Testing I found showed output power is closer to 70x4 @ 4ohms. I swapped out the Alpine for the JL amp
Pros: Form Factor Installation Simplicity Line In & Speaker Level Input Options Long Wiring Leads
Cons: Sub-Par Output Power Over-rated output power in real world use Minimal improvement over aftermarket head-unit speaker outputs Pre-amp inputs used for this installation

Can't be any happier with this little amp! Big bump to the factory head unit/door/rear deck speakers which in return gives your sub a big bump also!
Pros: Big sound from a small amp.
Cons: Get some hissing from your speakers around 10 or 11 o'clock on the gain. Just turn it down s tad and hissing is very minimal.

This amp has quite a bit of punch especially for its size. Even though I was unable to mount this behind the dash, I was able to extend the cabling and mount it under a seat. If you want to add some clarity of sound and volume without having to do a full amp install, this is definitely the way to go.
Pros: compact, no need for an independant power and ground connection.

I thought this would fit up under the dash but it didn't so I installed it on an ABS plate under the passenger seat. I'm not impressed with the build quality of the Alpine amp. To install the mounting bracket you have to remove four of the case screws. These screws are cheap, soft, and apparently attached with thread locker. The torque required to remove them is more than the shear strength of the cheap things. I got three of them off, barely, the fourth was impossible to remove using a Philips head. I used a pair of pliers, then I replaced all of them with stronger screws. It's a stupid design. The bracket should have been an integral part of the casing. The connectors are cheap and fragile. The amp had been installed for a couple of days when I noticed the left rear channel was not working. There's no easy way to check continuity because of the connector. I removed the passenger seat, the connector, and the left rear door panel. Continuity was good. That was frustrating. I eventually reconnected the connector and jiggled it. The channel came back intermittently. I removed the harness, Crutchfield sent a replacement, and the new harness worked. Wasted three hours. As for the sound, it's definitely louder and more dynamic but the quality of the sound is not significantly better than my aftermarket Sony head unit. I should have spent a bit more money and gotten a better amp since this one didn't fit behind the dash anyway.
Pros: Small, relatively cheap.
Cons: Poor bracket design, flimsy connectors.

Installed this little amp in a 2018 Silverado. It is pushing JBL club 6x9 components in the front and 6.5 rear. They sound great and am very impressed for the size. I have the gains all the way down and used the Crutchfield amp kit to run power straight from the battery. (I am using an Axxes AX-DSP to interface between the factory head unit and amp. This allows me to have low level outputs and control the chime volume that could otherwise be an issue on this vehicle. It also has a crossover and EQ along with time delay for imaging all in one DSP unit). I made sure to use a reliable chassis ground and have no issues with engine noise or otherwise.

Brought my sound, and speakers alive!!!
Colin from Fullerton, CA on 10/31/2018
I have a 97 Suzuki sidekick, with some kicker speakers in it, I was unsure, a full size amp in a tiny car, or a mini amp, Crutchfield, talked with me, and recommended this unit for what I need, it could not have been any more perfect, the right amount of power, it really does sit behind the dash behind the head unit, out of the way, they recommended all I need to complete the installation, which was a really simple job. The dual bias trim for front and rear speakers, is perfect to set the balance without using the head unit, as the rear speakers are bigger than the front. This did make my 4 inch and 5 1/4 speakers sound alive, and punchy.
Pros: Dual Bias, Easy to set up, easy to hide, no need for a newer head unit.
Cons: none, for me it was perfect, and its Alpine.

Nice addition to factory head unit
HarryBigD from Texas on 10/21/2018
I bought this amp for my 2017 Prius factory head unit. I had it professionally installed and I am very happy with the results. The sound is super clean and clear. There is complete silence between tracks. It powers four Morel Maximo's in the front and rear doors, with two Kicker 44ksc3504 in the dash. It sounds great and is plenty load enough when the windows are down on a nice day. I highly recommend this because of its size, clean signal and lack of any discernible hiss or distortion.
Pros: Compact clean sound. Compatible with a factory head unit. High pass filter for tweaking your bass.
Cons: None. Perfect for what I need.

I installed this amp in my wifes 2018 Honda CR-V; prior to that I installed Rockford Fosgate Punch front and rear door speakers. As much as were paying for this vehicle and all the upgrades; really shocked the stereo was that bad. Only took about an hour to install the amp. The hardest part was searching the internet and emailing Honda for the wiring diagram. I could not find the diagram anywhere on net and Honda waited 10days to reply to my email only to tell me that they dont know and I should contact my dealer. I am very disappointed in that response. Service tech at Crutchfield found the wiring diagram and I know it wasnt easy for him to find it. I was on hold for 10-15mins but I didnt care because I needed the diagram and wasnt calling my local dealer. LoL. Another terrific product from an outstanding company!!!

Great little amp
Stan from Wake Forest, NC on 9/29/2018
This is a great little amp. I installed a set of Alpine SPV-65X-WRA 6-1/2" weatherproof component speakers all the way around in my 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, and while they sounded much better than the base OEM speakers, there simply wasn't enough clean power to drive them with the front panels off and the windows down. I simply wasn't getting the full benefit which I expected with the components. This little unit tucked perfectly in the dash just to the left behind the glove box door, and now I've got as much power as I need to not only hear but actually "experience" the music during the "open air driving months". I kept my original head unit, and the wiring is super-clean; it's really nice not to have to run separate power, ground, etc. wires. For the price, this is almost a "must" if you've invested in decent aftermarket speakers.
Pros: Great price point Simple, clean installation Enough power to enjoy music with windows down
Cons: None, unless maybe you count that I can now easily recognize the lower original recording quality on the "80s on 8" satellite radio chanel... :(

Crutchfield customer from Benicia, CA on 8/12/2018
This bad boi made a huge difference to the alpine type r s65 coaxial speakers I put in my smart 451. After swapping the speakers, I was pretty disappointed by how they sounded powered off the head unit. This amp (bridged to 2 channels) really woke them up! I velcro'd It under the dash so it's hidden, but i can still adjust it if needed. Also wired it to the battery with the small amp kit from Crutchfield, since the battery was under the passenger seat and easily accessible.
Pros: -Easy to install -Lots of power for two channels -Doesn't need it's own power -Extremely small compared to similar amps
Cons: None for the price- it is a simple amp that does one thing well but doesn't have bells or whistles

Nice sound and easy install
Guest from Chester, VA on 8/5/2018
I bought this from our local big box electronics store... but purchased speakers and Powered Subwoofer from Crutchfield as a Charlottesville Store walk-in. I found the installation easy. The biggest time consumer was taking the Amp harness, receiver harness and car harness side... and putting it all together (I chose to solder and heat-shrink & I also used line level converters so I could use the RCA inputs at the amp). I ran the pass through remote turnon to the powered Sub. KTP-445U went behind my radio in the dash, so I have to make sure I set the gains and filters correctly before tucking it away. My cars OEM radio power circuit was a 15A circuit and have had zero issues using to power the 445U. 6-1/2" 3-way Rockford Speakers with Crutchfield provided factory pigtails and brackets in all 4 doors made install easy, and the house brand 10AWG amp kit for the powered Sub was good quality and had everything I needed.
Pros: Size, Sound and ease of intall
Cons: nothing if you know what to expect from it.

Worth it's weight..
Rufus J. from NW/IN on 4/4/2018
This amp surpassed expectations, it really brought to life my front & rear 6.5's. It was a easy hookup & it fit right underneath the head unit. I did run a dedicated power wire to the battery as instructed by Crutchfield but to be honest, I think I could have used the factory harness because of the near proximity of the amp to the harness. The sound of my highs & mids are so much clearer, my single 12in sealed sub blends in well & doesn't completely overpower the 6.5's.
Pros: Small form factor, big sound.
Cons: Just make sure you adjust your gain levels before you tuck it away, not really a con but a pain to do it it's under the head unit or behind it.

Dana from Sioux Falls, SD on 3/30/2018
Purchased the amp for my motorcycle. The old one died and I needed a replacement. I have the other model KTP 445A and thought this would be perfect. The amp sounds really good and went in very easy. The amp fit perfectly under the deck and the sides stuck out enough so I could screw it down. The only downside about the amp is the really soft screws for the brackets. I almost thought I'd have to drill them out to get the brackets on. I can't say enough about how soft they were. Do yourself a favor, after you get them out go get some new ones. I would have given it five stars, but the screws were very hard to deal with.
Pros: Sounds awesome! Easy to install. Very small footprint.
Cons: Bracket screws are very soft.

Kevin from Roswell, GA on 3/20/2018
Upgraded head unit to JVC 430BT, but was still lacking the overall sound I was looking for driving Kicker 6504 speakers. Advisor recommended more power. The advisor was right on. I'm not looking to shatter windows; just want good, robust sound. The Alpine 445 was an excellent choice for my price conscious needs. With it's use of a wiring harness, there was a whole lot of splicing to do (perhaps the biggest drawback), but it is a great little amp. And I wanted little (although I still chose to mount it under my driver seat). It fits easily completely up under the seat and out of harms way.
Pros: Sound, ease of use, size

4Runner, better sound
John from Rosamond, CA on 3/17/2018
2016 4Runner. Crutchfield told me that there wasn't a harness. Buy a Male and Female 1761 from Metra or elsewhere - boom - plug and play wire harness (you'll have to connect the speaker wires of course.) The stock radio in the 4Runner is pathetic when it comes to output. I have to run the volume at almost three-quarter to get decent sound out of it. Finished installing the power pack today. This is exactly what I wanted. In 4Runner there is room inside the dash (above glove box) but the shape is so irregular that unless you wanted to wrap it in foam and shove in in the hole, I didn't think that was a good place. I installed it beneath the passenger seat. Great price, very good results. I would definitely recommend this unit. There is a very small amount of hiss when sound is not playing.
Pros: Small size, cheap to buy, easy to place in vehicle, From a well known company, has gain control and a built in cross over.
Cons: Don't know how long it'll last, a little hiss when music is not playing.

Great sound
Ash from Morgan Hill, CA on 2/8/2018
Installed this in my 1998 Toyota 4Runner. I didn't want a large 'system' and was only looking to do a modest upgrade. With fresh speakers and a new double-din HU I realized the 18rms in the HU wasn't enough and I couldn't wire in the original factory amp. Reading the awesome reviews of this little Power Pack I went for it. Fortunately it fit just nicely behind the dash. It wasn't more volume I was looking for as much as it was the power to feed the new speakers with richer and deeper sound that an amp offers. This Alpine Power Pack has not disappointed and the sound is fantastic in my Runner. It does crank more obviously but the most important aspect for me was that cleaner and richer sound quality the amp provides. As an aside comment, during my installation I utilized the free phone-in technical assistance Crutchfield offers and it was absolutely stellar all the way. Scott was amazingly friendly, polite, helpful and easy to understand. He corrected my thinking as to why the wiring was confusing me and got me on my way in very short time. A+ all around.
Pros: Easy to install. Compact and powerful.
Cons: None at this time.

Review correction/update for 2015 Subaru Forester install
BFC from Seattle, WA on 8/28/2017
Last February 2016 I gave the amp a poor review because of a hum noise I was getting thru my speakers , using the oem Clarion head unit and upgraded Subaru Kicker speakers. Used speaker level connection. I've since replaced the stock head unit with a Kenwood Excelon DPX792BH bought thru Crutchfield and decided to try using the Alpine again, this time using RCA connections and the amp was powered and grounded again using the car's radio power and ground wires. No hum or any other issues so it seems the switch to a better head unit w/ rca inputs did the trick. I also followed Crutchfield's advice on using test tones to help set the gains. I wasn't expecting a huge jump in power (Kenwood head unit 22 watts/channel, Alpine 45watts/channel) but there is a bit more oomph and clarity to the sound now so any issues I had before weren't due to this Alpine amp.
Pros: Small size, relatively cool-running, uses RCA connection, good value
Cons:

Great amp
nathan from Kansas City, MO on 8/20/2017
Great little amp with lots of power.
Pros: Bought this amp to power the door speakers in my 2016 Dodge Ram 2500. Used in a previous vehicle. Sounded great and was easy to hide. Most people thought I was using a much bigger amp to power my speakers. Loved it and will suggest to anyone looking for an easy clean install amp to purchase.
Cons: When turned up it would cut out. It may have been due to heat. This was an early generation amp, I would expect Alpine to have corrected the issue over the years

Amazing power from a small package
James from Wappingers Falls, NY on 6/21/2017
Great power and sound from a small package. Install was a bit annoying due to the numerous and bulky wires.
Pros: Amazing power from a small package. Easy to find a space to install. Surprisingly loud given modest specs. Would buy again.
Cons: Having wiring harness on each end makes installation more difficult. Prefer to see all wires on one side for better "fitability". Simply the wiring as well.

I cant feel the difference
Don2 from Aliso Viejo on 5/8/2017
I bought mine at a local dealer. This store is in Rancho Sta Margarita in California. I purchased this to give my Pioneer Avic 5200 NEX an extra power. Honestly i cant feel the difference. I have a friend who has the same head unit and has a cheaper speaker component speaker and his sounds louder and cleaner than mine. I will have mine removed next week. It was not worth it. If you expect more power, this wont serve the purpose. Do not get this one. I am an audiophile for decades and I will go back to either Rockford Fosgate or JL audio. Alpine is not very popular with amps. Again do not buy this. I gave mine a chance but didn't satisfy me
Pros: Cheap, can be installed bahind the dash
Cons: Cant feel its presence, its just like as powerful as a head unit

Slight power boost, and a bit of hum boost too
Anurag from Chicago, IL on 3/13/2017
As a part of my car stereo upgrade, I first went on to change the stock speakers to get a little boost to the low-ends (The mid and highs were good enough) The Polks I ordered made no difference to sound quality, so I went on and got the Alpine KTP-445U. After installation, I did not notice any boost to the lows. I then went on and replaced the Polks with the OEM speakers and that made all the difference. Contrary to what I expected, the OEM's despite their smaller magnets delivered a better punch with the Alpine power pack than with the high(er) end Polks. Overall, I am a (tad bit) more satisfied with the sound quality of my car's stereo with the Alpine KTP-445U installed. So why the 3 stars: The Alpine KTP-445U is an amplifier, and like (most) amplifiers, it will also increase noise. Not quite what I expected from an Alpine unit, but it is what it is. At low volumes, bass output is better as compared to the stock setup but at very low volumes the noise can be heard a bit, if you are my types with sharp (dog-like) ears. I got the unit installed by a pro, paid about a 100 bucks for the installation, but they did a good job at setting the gain. Check the Crutchfield Subwoofer Tuning article for some references you can use to set gain at the correct level Nevertheless, if you are looking to boost your existing setup without a sub, then the Alpine KTP-445U sure is a good way forward.
Pros: 1. Tiny little invisible unit, fits inside the dash 2. Slight boost your existing set-up, decent boost to the low-end frequencies
Cons: 1. Expect a slight hum from your speakers at low volumes, which is not noticeable at higher volumes

Everyone at Crutchfield is AWESOME!! I love the sound after adding my new Alpine 4 channel amp. This was so small I was able to fit it in the dash behind the glove box, so I can easily access it for future adjustments. I installed this on my new Jeep Rubicon and what a difference!!! Thanks everyone @ Crutchfield another great job.
Pros: extremely easy install , and can pretty much hide it anywhere , very pleased with this purchase
Cons: I really don't have any !!

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. I am surprised that when RCA jacks cannot be used, the solution is to cut the already short wires and extend them. A non-rca harness should be included with sufficient length.

This is the third ktp-445 amp I have purchased from Crutchfield, installed in boat car and truck. If your plan is simply to make significant upgrade to an existing sound system with stealth, space savings, and cost savings, you can't beat this amp. Inputs, auto turn on, adjustments, and reliability are the features I was looking for.

I installed this unit with the purchase of a new JVC head unit because after installing my Kicker speakers, I still didn't have clear sound. This little amp (really little) totally brought my speakers to life. I can now hear all of the instruments clearly. The best thing is that this amp is so small I was able to install it just behind the head unit without trouble!

Crutchfield customer from Marlboro, NJ on 11/28/2016
Definitely makes a significant difference. Driving JL C2 690tx (which were asleep with the aftermarket Pioneer HU) and JL C2 350x which were fine without an amp. Was able to fit it behind the stereo
Pros: Big difference in sound, works well powered from headunit power line. Easy solution if you don't want the hassle of installing an amp. Very happy with the sound.
Cons: Pricey for what it is, you are basically paying for convenience which is fine. The version that works with alpine headunits is cheaper

Love this small amplifier! I needed something to drive my JL C3s and this amp pushes them nicely! I'm used to the larger 4 channels from the past and this fit in my glove box
Pros: Small footprint yet powerful. You have to try this thing
Cons: I wish the exterior was a little fancier like the other Alpine models (LED lights)

Plus-Up
Brian from Dedham, MA on 9/1/2016
I bought this amp to plus-up my stock stereo system in my 2012 Subaru Impreza. The sound was better after the installation, but the factory speakers were not good enough to handle the power.
Pros: better sound
Cons: needed to buy speakers (which i was eventually going to buy later this just sped up the purchase)

Does the job!
Douglas from Raleigh, NC on 8/25/2016
This amp is part of a complete audio system I put in my 2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ. I'm using it to bump up the power to four Polk Audio db651s speakers mounted in the stock locations. I set the cutoff at 60 and am running a RF Punch P300-10 for the bass. It has its own built-in amp. The Polk Audio speakers sound great so the amp must be doing something right. It's mounted behind the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X300 in the dash. Out of sight, out of mind.
Pros: Wiring was easy. It matched up nicely to the Kenwood harness and the vehicle adapter harnesses. Just a little head scratching, but it all worked out.
Cons: Got nothing. It works for me.

Great little amp!
TerryM from Luray, VA on 7/24/2016
This little amp packs quite a punch when you're short on mounting space. Going from stock head unit to an aftermarket always ends up sounding flat and tinny. I had purchased a larger amp to address this, however my plans to mount it under a seat ultimately turned me off. I bought this unit and installation was quite simple. No running wires from the engine bay and running a ground wire to somewhere on the floor. Just need RCA cables, radio wiring kit, and crimps. 90% of the installation prep was done before opening the car door. The size of this amp is great! It fits right behind my head unit with room to spare. I definitely recommend!

AMAZING
CP from Blackwood, NJ on 7/17/2016
This little alpine amp is Amazing! For the money and the convenience there is nothing out there that can compete. My piece of advice is use this amp bridged at 90 watts rms x 2. Using the 45 x 4 is ok for increasing clarity but will only give you a small power boost over your head unit. At 90x4 this amp comes alive and can compete with some bigger wired amps in power and clarity. I definitely recommend this amp for a small component set and it will bring it to life.
Pros: Definitive Clarity and power boost at 90w x 2.
Cons: 45 watts x 4 is just ok. I wouldn't buy this amp if I wasn't going to bridge it.

It has its pros in cons in my opinion.
audiophile from Grand Rapids, MI on 5/13/2016
This is definitely an improvement to a stock head unit. It sure does pack a punch after tapping into the stock head unit power and ground, as described in the manual. Some maybe skeptical that splicing into the head unit power will be sufficient for an amplifier but I think it supplies plenty of power. I replaced the stock speakers with JL audio C2 series and had the gain on this amplifier at nearly 20-25% and it was quite loud.
Pros: Small and fairly easy to install depending on your vehicle. Provides a good sound upgrade for a stock head unit, so you can keep the factory head unit and still have searing wheel controls with out purchasing extra hardware. Small size also makes it easier to install with the ability to mount it in the front of the vehicle without needing to run wire across the whole car.
Cons: -No power indicator light or over current light. Hard to tell when the amp is actually drawing power. -A low level line out would also be really nice. -The speaker wire with the white/brown stripe was extremely hard for me to find for some reason, it almost looks identical to the white/grey stripe.

Great amp for tight spots!
I was replacing y 2002 WJ Grand Cherokee's Infinity radio, which meant I could not use the factory amp anymore. I was going to run the speakers off the Kenwood head unit- then I found this Universal Power-pack online. I patched it into the factory amp's wiring harness under the back seat, even re-used the factory power/ground wires. I ran two sets of 11.5 foot RCA cables for my signal from the Kenwood to the amp because I wanted a nice clean signal. I already had full range 6.5 speakers in the front doors (was not using the old stock dash speakers anymore). WOW it blows away the original amp, nice clear sound with enough bass to shake my seat (jazz/blues/rock) from the four 6.5's in the doors. I can't believe I didn't have to sacrifice cargo space or run huge wiring for it! Nobody even knows it's there- perfect!
Pros: Small size, easy and clean install (re-used factory amp harness), nice clean sound
Cons: None after a year and a half
