About the Alpine RS-W12D4

Bob Bihlmayer

Shallow-mount upgrade

Alpine's R-Series subwoofers are known for their high power handling and tight response. The new RS-W12D4 shallow-mount sub delivers the same quality in a speaker that'll fit where other subs won't.

Alpine's R-Series subwoofers are known for their high power handling and tight response. The new RS-W12D4 shallow-mount sub delivers the same quality in a speaker that'll fit where other subs won't.

Small size, big impact

Built around a solid, cast-aluminum frame, this shallow sub requires a mounting depth of only 3.3 inches. Yet the RS-W12D4's cone excursion is the same as a regular R-Series sub, so you'll enjoy the kind of impact you expect from Alpine.

Fits into your system

This versatile sub sounds great in sealed or ported enclosures. You can wire the dual voice coils for either 2- or 8-ohm total impedance, giving you more wiring options when setting up your system. The sub handles up to 600 watts RMS (1800 watts peak) so make sure you've got a solid amp to power it.

Features

Dual Voice Coils: For system flexibility, the woofer has two 4Ω voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load; when wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Terminals: The two pair of set screw terminals are located on opposite sides of the woofer frame and 18" lengths of positive and negative wire are included for wiring the voice coils in parallel or series. The terminals will accept bare wire up to 10-gauge.

Enclosure: Alpine recommends mounting the RS-W12D4 sub in a sealed box with a volume (gross) of 0.65 to 1.55 ft³. Three specific volumes are listed in the manual, 0.65 ft³ (-3 dB at 35 Hz), 0.95 ft³ (-3 dB at 30.5 Hz), and 1.25 ft³ (-3 dB at 29 Hz).

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

Q
which amp should i use with 2 of these?

A
Greetings Nate. Thank you for your question. Each sub would like close to 600 watts. These are dual voice coil 4 ohm, so two of these would need to be wired down to 1 ohm to run one amp for both. The perfect amp would be the Alpine S2-A120M. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500S2A120M/Alpine-S2-A120M.html?tp=35834
