CTA-2006 Compliant: CTA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring amplifier power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CTA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).

CTA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output: 600 watts RMS x 1 into 4Ω
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 85 dBA (measured at 1 watt into 4Ω)

Other Specifications:

  • Power Output (2Ω): 1200 watts RMS x 1 @14.4 volts
  • Power Output (1Ω): 1200 watts RMS x 1 @14.4 volts
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 107 dB (at rated power output, 4Ω)
Controls

Gain Control: Use the rotary gain control to match the input signal voltage. The amp will accept line level signals from 0.2 volts to 4.0 volts or speaker level signals from 0.5 volts to 10 volts.

Turn-On Type/Input Level: A 3-way switch lets you select both the amp activation method and the input signal type. Choices include:

  • DC/HI: Used when running speaker-level inputs and using DC offset to trigger the amp.
  • REM/HI: Used when running speaker-level inputs, but using a +12V trigger wire (REM) to activate the amp.
  • REM/LO: Used when running RCA pre-amp signals into the amp and connecting a +12V trigger wire (REM) to activate the amp.

Crossover: The low pass crossover is always engaged. (It cannot be bypassed.) The crossover point is adjustable from 50 Hz to 400 Hz and the slope is 24 dB/octave.

Bass EQ: The amplifier has a variable Bass EQ circuit (Bass Boost) that raises the level of the amplifier output at 50Hz from 0dB to +12dB.

Optional Remote Control: The amplifier has an RJ-25 jack for adding the optional RUX-KNOB.2 wired remote bass level control. The remote has a 20dB adjustment range (-20 dB to 0 dB relative to the gain setting).

Connections

Power/Ground: Two set-screw terminals connect the power and ground cables. The terminals accept up to 4-gauge wire (a 4-gauge wiring kit is recommended - sold separately). The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 2.5mm Allen wrench.

Remote Turn-on: The remote turn-on set screw terminal will accept up to 8-gauge wire. The set screw is tightened/loosened with the included 2.5mm Allen wrench.

Speaker Outputs: The two pair of set-screw terminals will accept up to 8-gauge wire. They are internally wired in parallel, making it easy to connect two subwoofers. The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 2.5mm Allen wrench.

Signal Input: The stereo RCA jacks connect to line level or speaker level input signals. If connecting the source unit's speaker wire to the input jacks, use a Speaker-to-RCA adapter or splice speaker wire to an RCA plug.

Pre-Outs: Two RCA output jacks can be used to pass the input signals back out to additional amplifiers. The output signals are unaffected by the amplifier's settings.

Fuses: Four 25-amp ATO fuses protect the amplifier. Another fuse (100-amp minimum) should be placed on the +12V power wire within 18" of the battery.

Q
What is the operating voltage for this amplifier will it work with 15.5v of power supply?
mauricio  Jun 27, 2025
1 answer
A
Hey Mauriciio, the operating voltage on this is rated for up to 14.4V and due to how the numeric listing works, I'm not sure if your 15.5 was a typo or if you actually have a power supply pushing out that 15.5V.

Q
What is the max speaker wire size output to subs? Most amps are 8G, but can't find this spec in the owners manual.
james  Jan 25, 2025
1 answer
A
This amp will accept up to 8-gauge on the speaker output side of things.

Q
Can I run 2 subs at 300 watts rms 4ohms each with this amp?
tacodude  Nov 10, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Tyler. Thank you for your question. This amp running at 2 ohms will output 1200 watts. Two single voice coil 4 ohm subs would be wired to 2 ohms, each would get 600 watts. please contact one of our sales advisors at 800-324-9695 with your specific subwoofer information for the best recommendation.

Q
Would this be too much amp for the JL Audio CP210-W0v3?
dominic  Aug 29, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Dominic, that will be way too much for those JLs. If you are looking to drive those with an Alpine amp then you will want to go with this one instead: https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c402/p_500S2A60M/Alpine-S2-A60M.html?tp=115 If you are not wanting to wait for this amp to come back in stock, then here is JLs recommended amp for those subs: https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c402/p_13698362/JL-Audio-JD500-1.html?tp=115

Q
Is the max RCA LO level input voltage 4v? im looking at getting a line driver if it accepts 6v+ since my preout rca voltage is 2.5v
gabrian  Jun 12, 2024
1 answer
A
Yes, the RCA level input is showing a max of 4v for the input. The amp will accept line level signals from 0.2 volts to 4.0 volts or speaker level signals from 0.5 volts to 10 volts. Since we are planning on running a line output converter that will have a pre-out of 2.5v, means you are well within the range to make it work.

Q
Would this amp be able to run 1 ohm for two Type R 10s? and would the speakers be able to handle that?
andrew  May 26, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Andrew. The Alpine S2-A120M puts out 1200 at 2 ohms or at 1 ohm. It is stable at 1 ohm. The Type R 10s if current are rated for up to 750 watts each. Running two would get 600 watts to each with this amp.
thomas  May 26, 2024 (Staff)
Q
Is there a better wiring configuration right now I am running 8 ohms per speaker for 4 ohm final impedance at amp, can I drop these to a 2 ohm final impedance? If so how would I do that
andrew  May 26, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Andrew. Thank you for your question. You can drop the impedance to the amplifier by changing the speakers to 4 ohm speakers. Two 4 ohm speakers ran parallel would end up being 2 ohms.

Q
I'm running 2 type r 10s with a mrx m50 would this sound better?
andrew  Apr 30, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Andrew, thank you for your question. Type Rs are rated for 600-750 watts each depending on when they were produced. What they are getting now is 250 watts each. That less than half the power they want. So yes, this amplifier will not only make them sound better, but play deeper, and louder as well.
