About the Alpine W10S4

Bob Bihlmayer

Holding down the BassLine

If you're a car sound enthusiast, you understand the importance of bass. Alpine shares that view, and they've created the BassLine Series subwoofers to give you the low-frequency punch you need to create a well-balanced system. You won't just hear the bottom end, you'll feel it. And best of all, Alpine's made these subs affordable so you can fill your vehicle with bass without emptying your savings account.

Built solid

Alpine's BassLine W10S4 10" sub is built around a polypropylene/mica cone that stays stiff at high volume levels to avoid distortion. The poly-foam surround and tough steel frame give the cone the support it needs to pump out the volume. This sub handles up to 250 watts RMS and its 4-ohm impedance makes it a great match for most amplifiers.

Product Research

Features

PWR Cone Design: The subwoofer's Progressive Wavelet Ribs (PWR) cone design helps break up standing waves and cone resonances to keep distortion low. The sub uses a polypropylene and mica damped cone assembly and a high-excursion poly-foam surround.

Progressive Polyester Spider: The progressive polyester spider provides accurate control of the subwoofer cone motion.

Two-Piece Yoke: The two-piece yoke uses a vented pole to provide improved air flow and help cool the voice coil.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals accept pin connectors, single or dual banana plugs, or bare wire up to 8 gauge.

Sealed Box Volume: The recommended sealed box volume range is from 0.65 ft³ to 1.0 ft³, with 0.83 ft³ being the ideal size.

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume range is from 1.0 ft³ to 1.75 ft³. The ideal size is 1.51 ft³, using a slot port measuring 10-1/2" (W) x 1" (H) x 9" (L).

A
This is not meant to be used for PA systems. It's meant for audio that's been through the final mastering process and prepared for typical consumer gear playback

2 of these subs can be wired together to reach a 2-ohm load. You can refer to our subwoofer wiring diagrams here: https://www.crutchfield.com/learn/learningcenter/car/subwoofers_wiring.html?g=100

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Are you powering just one or several? I personally have two wired in parallel with an Infinity Kappa K600 amplifier and have been very pleased with no problems.

I am driving two of these subs with an MRV-M1200 but really any decent quality amp should work, it's not so much the RMS power but how you set up the system gain, crossover, etc. And don't go cheap on the box, that is more important than how much power you have, a watt is a watt frankly but a crappy box not only sounds bad it can kill your sub quickly. I went with the Alpine recommended slot-ported enclosure but BEWARE and double check the specs. I am not making this up! Alpine published the wrong port length and I caught the error (should be 9" long) let them know about it and they wrote back to me but I do not know how they can let others know this unless consumers ask. I've got subs from 8" to 18" with 100 to 5,000 watts and I can say for sure the W10S4 is probably the best value on the market now. Good luck! Cheers, Scott

I'm using a Kicker CX 600.1 in a Honda Accord, and I'm more then satisfied. The Alpine have a great, rich, deep sound.
