About the Soundstream Reserve RSM4.1200D

Buck Pomerantz

Tiny giant

Soundstream packed an unbelievable amount of power in this tiny, hand-sized RSM4.1200D amplifier that'll fit in almost anywhere in your car — putting out 75 watts RMS to each of your front and rear speakers. You can also bridge the rear channels to blast a subwoofer with 220 watts RMS while powering the fronts with 75 watts each. And this amplifier generates all this power from a chassis with a footprint of 7" by 3-3/4", with a Class-D design that keeps heat and current draw to a minimum.

Product Research

Features

Channel Configuration: The SoundStream RSM4.1200D is a 4-channel amp; essentially two full range 2-channel amps built into one chassis. Both amplifier sections are bridgeable, so it can be configured as a 4-channel, 3-channel, or 2-channel amplifier.

  • Power Output:
    • 4Ω: 75 watts RMS x 4-channels
    • 2Ω: 110 watts RMS x 4-channels
    • Bridged: 220 watts RMS x 2-channels into 4Ω

Controls

  • Gain: The input levels are independently adjustable for the front and rear channels. The input range is 0.25 volts to 6.0 volts.
  • Crossover: The amp has independent crossover controls for the front and rear channels. The crossover slopes are 12 dB/octave:
    • Mode: three position switch; choose high pass, full range (crossover is bypassed), or low pass
    • Frequency: set the crossover point; rotary dial; 35-250 Hz

Connections:

  • Power Input: Two set-screw terminals are provided for connecting the power and ground cables. The terminals accept up to 8-gauge wire. (10-Gauge minimum is recommended.) The set screws are tightened/loosened with a Phillips head screw driver (not included).
  • Remote: The remote turn-on terminal is a set-screw and will accept up to 10-gauge wire. (18-Gauge minimum is recommended.) The set screw is tightened/loosened with a Phillips head screw driver (not included).
  • Speaker Outputs: The four pair of speaker output set-screw terminals will accept up to 12-gauge wire. The set screws are tightened/loosened with a Phillips head screw driver (not included).
  • Line Level Input: Two pair of stereo RCA jacks feed the front and rear channels.
  • Speaker Level Input: Two 8" 2-channel wiring harnesses are included for speaker level input.
  • Fuse: There is one 30-amp ATM fuse, mounted inside the amplifier case.

Customer Q&A

10 questions already asked

Q
The speaker level input harness with this amp has one white wire, one grey wire, and three black wires - none of which are marked. I'm installing this directly to the factory stereo on my 2021 Ram 1500 with 12" Uconnect and HK 19 speaker factory system (upgraded speakers). I can't find a wiring diagram to match these colors to the appropriate speaker locations anywhere. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hey Nelson, and thank you for your purchase. We would prefer that you call our technical support service to help out with your install. You should have a tech number on your shipping confirmation email. If you accidently discarder the email, call in the main number, and we can switch you over to a tech. They are here 7 days a week. This way you can have all your questions answered in a more timely fashion.

Q
How do I connect speakers to run 4 channel amp at 2ohm x 4 channels?
eric  Aug 02, 2022
1 answer
A
If your speakers are 4 ohms then you would need to wire 2 of them in parallel to get a 2 ohm load of each channel.

The speaker level input harness with this amp has one white wire, one grey wire, and three black wires - none of which are marked. I'm installing this directly to the factory stereo on my 2018 F150 (non premium, no factory amplifier). I can't find a wiring diagram to match these colors to the appropriate speaker locations anywhere. Can someone point me in the right direction?

A
We've got you covered Jeremy, no worries! This hi level input harness is a bit different than on most amps as you've got one for each "side" of the amp. White and grey appear to be the positive's for the L and R in each harness. I'm going to shoot you a picture of the OEM wiring breakdown as far as the speaker wires coming out of your factory radio, that's going to your email, that should help identify those connections! If you are still jammed up make sure to call our live Tech Support Hotline, you get that support for LIFE as a customer! That number is 888.292.2575. I hope this helps!

Q
Does the speaker level inputs also turn the amp on or does it require a real remote turn on?
dennis  Apr 13, 2022
1 answer
A
This requires a 12V remote turn on lead, which can be spliced from the ACC wire on your factory harness. This amp draws very little current when not in use so this is the simplest solution.

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp/sub combo I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the sub models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
What is the minimum gauge wiring recommended?
michael  Dec 02, 2020

A
I believe for the power and ground it was 10 gauge. I used 8. I would say that the larger size is better, less resistance means cleaner power and these amps need the power to deliver their potential! As far as the rest of the wiring I am sure 12 or 14 is fine, I used 12.
joseph  Dec 02, 2020
A
8gauge Enter
cameron  Dec 02, 2020
A
Accordingly to Soundstream- Make sure that the leads to be connected to the +12V and GRD terminals of the unit respectively must be larger than 10-Gauge (AWG).
angelino  Dec 02, 2020
A
It says 8gauge. But I'm currently running 4gauge with ferrules no issues.
anthony  Dec 02, 2020
A
8 awg. I would go with that! Obviosly the connection block is built heavy duty enough for 8 awg power & grnd cable. If your driving the RSM4,1200 near its limit a lot like i do you could develop heat in the PWR & GRND wires if their too small because the amp will be demanding more current. The imporntance of a good ground is often over looked ! Patience in making solid connections all the way around is a must !

mortimer  Nov 20, 2020

Negative, this amp is 4- channel 4 Ohm stable or 2- channe 2 Ohm stable.
