Disappointing

This model is quite functional for my needs but does not look as nice in person as it does in the picture. The finish quality of Salamander has deteriorated in recent years. We purchased a previous Salamander model some 8 years ago that is head and shoulders above this model in terms of design and looks. I am keeping the old one in the living room and relegating the new one to my basement family room. My opinion is this cabinet is too much money for what you get.
Pros: Solid cabinet to house heavier gear.
Cons: Looks too industrial - not to be displayed in a nicer living area

Not The Same Salamander Designs

This is my second Salamander Designs AV unit (the last one was over 20 years old and the reason I came back to this company). This is a well thought out product, with fine fit, but a very disappointing, sub-par finish. As person who's hobby is woodworking, I understand that staining different grains of the same wood species can be a challenge; however, skilled craftsman can overcome this challenge and provide a uniform stain color over the whole piece of furniture (as is pictured in the advisement). For the cost of this unit, I expected that level of craftsmanship. That was not the product I received. The walnut stain color of the doors were a shade darker than the top and sides, and the two shades darker that the cove design around the top and bottom. The color variations are very noticeable in my very sunny room. The unit is put together and would be a great inconvenience to disassemble and try to ship back, but I am so tempted to do so. I do plan on contacting Salamander Designs directly to express my displeasure. This product does not reflect the finest of American craftsmanship, especially at this price!

Very Happy

Was a little taken back when it was delivered from an 18 wheeler on a wooden pallet. Also, took my time putting it together and actually followed the instructions using a square and a level. The patience paid-off with a really nice unit that has everything I've wanted. Super sturdy. Smart look that matches my speakers and living room. Very happy.
