Used the Crutchfield Readyharness service with this. Made the guesswork on most everything disappear. Just a plug to the head unit, I'm needing to contact the professionals on the AV wiring, as my Truck has no use for this part of the harness. However, prior dealings with the service dept. have been really smooth.
Pros: Everything was nearly plug and play.
Cons: The readyharness service is awesome, however I neglected to mention there's no AV to hook up. This component comes wired in, and there's not a way to enter you won't need it. (checked after the arrival)

I've had issues with this adaptar from day one. Twice having to go back in and change the settings, it's never kept the correct time, and now it cuts the volume in and out when hitting bumps. Unfortunately, it's out of warranty and Crutchfield won't replace it. I'd find another brand as this one obviously has issues

Steering Wheel Controls don't work. I've talked to tech support, said could be a bad radio or PAC box, since the PAC box is lighting up when I press the Steering wheel controls and pins are set correctly. Replaced the old Jenson radio with a newer Boss Radio from Crutchfield, still didn't work. After buying 2 radios from Crutchfield I was told I need to buy a new PAC Box since I was out of warranty. Seems like after buying 2 radios from Crutchfield they could've helped me out a little and sent me a new box even if it was out of warranty.
Pros: Easy wiring.
Cons: SWC don't work.

Doesn't retain steering wheel controls on 2011 GMC 2500 HD
Rob from Seeley Lake MT on 10/31/2024
2011 GMC Sierra
Got this and a Kenwood head unit for the sole purpose of retaining the steering wheel controls on my 2011 GMC 2500HD. Paid for the harness connection done by Crutchfield as well. None of the steering wheel controls work. Head unit seems to work fine otherwise. Verified dip switch position. Get the blinky LED on the PAC unit when I push steering wheel buttons, but nothing happens. There's only 2 harnesses from the factory vehicle wiring and they're not interchangable so impossible to put those in the wrong spot. Coulda saved myself almost $200 bucks by not ordering this turd. Don't have the BOSE, no onstar, no navigation, none of the extra peripheral features. Just a stereo I'd like to control with the steering wheel controls. Found a lot of negative reviews of this specific PAC model - seems pretty hit or miss of they work.
Pros: Made my wallet roughly $200 bucks lighter. Came with a bunch of random adapters for all the equipment I don't have on my specific vehicle. Super useful.
Cons: Doesn't do the ONE THING I purchased it for. Bravo.

The wiring interface is a great tool and sure makes things alot easier! I opted to make splice connections for the new receiver on my own as I prefer heat shrink over crimped connectors, and I did run into some questions on the splicing. Tech support was great and helped me through all the questions to make sure I had the correct connections. I would have liked the documentation to be somewhat clearer as some wires bypassed around the PAC RP5 units and many passed through. There was also some documentation about bypassing some speaker wiring, but the tech support team asked me to use those as a last resort. All in all, the products were easy to install and maintained all my vehicle functionality.

Wiring interface works fine, the sound generator leaves a bit to be desired. The sound it makes for the door chime, warning chimes, etc is fine. However the sound it makes for the turn signals is so quiet with either the radio barely turned up or the A/C fan on speed 2 or higher the noise cannot be heard at all. There is a sound level adjustment but even at the highest setting it's barely audible with the turn signals on. Otherwise, the interface works fine.

I bought a Kenwood stereo to replace the OEM radio/CD player in my 2014 GMC Yukon XL; it had steering wheel controls, bluetooth phone, etc. But it was old and not working. Bought the harness and (thankfully) also paid to have our friends at Crutchfield customize the harness or I'd still be messing around with it. My system was not simple I will admit. I'm happy with the new system and it almost works the same. I found out from tech assistance that virtually no aftermarket stereo unit will be able to patch into my existing bluetooth microphone. I learned that after plugging the adaptor unit into my existing mic cable. Would have been helpful to know that in advance. Also I cannot accept and end calls from the steering wheel any more. The technician was very helpful and confirmed that there can be specific gaps like that. Would have been nice to know in advance. The directions for the wiring interface are not that clear IMO; the plugs matched up well but when the phone wasn't working I was afraid I'd need to start doing custom function mapping of the interface unit. They have photos of my very dash to help me confirm if I've found the right system for my Yukon, but the instructions are very generic and confusing in places. System sounds great. I can control the music from the steering wheel. I've done a bit of amateur stereo installation over the years, but this took me hours and a call to a friendly Crutchfield tech to get it finished and le

Crutchfield tech support great as usual, this product not so much, it says it can be programed to add/change features to steering wheel buttons but after about an hour working with tech support. nothing worked, had to go with factory setting which meant three of my s.w.b all do the same thing and none of my call features works on the steering wheel and even worse than that the turn signal noise with this unit is the most annoying sound i have ever heard, sounds like 80s video game, there has to be a better interface out there that Crutchfield could sell. It's all about that chime
Nathen from Colgate, WI on 3/20/2024
2012 GMC Sierra
It mostly does what it advertises, but you may have to spend a lot of time getting it set right. I paired mine with a BOSS Audio stereo, which is one of the "standard" configurations and it took several attempts to get the steering wheel controls working almost correctly. As you'll read in almost every other review, the chime is horrendous. Whoever developed it should be ashamed of themselves. I've been in hundreds of vehicles, and the sound it makes does not resemble a sound I've heard in any of them. The PAC chime replaces not only the turn signals, but also the backup sensors, and the chime when you press the lock button. It is terrible. I actually looked for a replacement chime, but unfortunately, couldn't find one.

Double check your ready harness!
Gregory from WICHITA, KS on 3/3/2024
2016 Chevrolet Impala Limited
Purchased this with my Kenwood head unit and speakers, also paid for the "ready harness" option. Everything was plug & play, but had no working steering wheel controls. Contacted customer service, was told to make sure blue/yellow wires were connected from the Kenwood and the interface. Pulled the radio out and found the ready harness had been wired wrong. The solid blue wire from the Kenwood (actually the remote power on wire) had been wired to the steering wheel control wire of the PAC interface. I spliced the correct wire from the Kenwood to the PAC an had controls for a short time, then stopped working. Wondering if the voltage going to the PAC didn't fry the interface.

Everything you need to keep all steering wheel functions you have working with new radio. Had all the adapters I needed to hook up radio to my car.Make sure to read the directions and pay attention to service bulletin provide to wire speakers correctly to avoid radio turning off due to overheating. Took about a half hour to connect all wires to wiring harness.
Pros: Keeps all steering wheel functions.
Cons: Having to by pass the box and connect speaker wires directly to radio wiring harness. Not a big deal but if you miss this step your radio could turn off if playing music loud.

A truly great way to simplify any upgrade process from Crutchfield. Prewired and preset which is exactly what I was told before ordering. Yet another reason I only purchase from Crutchfield. Saved me at least 30-45 minutes of wiring alone. All my factory controls function perfectly.

Decent interface
Toby from CAMDEN WYOMING, DE on 2/17/2024

I bought this to retain the factory steering wheel functions and other factory features that GM used the radio for. So far it has been pretty decent. The car I installed it in had a no name Android radio that rarely worked right. When I installed a new radio with this interface I got back some features the Android radio did not have. My back up sensors now work. I can kind of hear when the turn signal is on. Some have complained about the turn signals not being loud enough. I would agree. It's not a big issue for me, but why I only gave 4 stars,
Pros: Retains factory steering wheel functions Retains factory sounds routed though the radio
Cons: Turn signal indicator is not very loud

While the initial install went smooth (which you'd expect when you opt into the most expensive kit including the preconfigured plug and play harness), its been a nightmare trying to troubleshoot the issues. Its been 2 weeks (probably 4-5 nights) trying different things. The screen looks like washed all in all lighting (a little less terrible if its night time). Changing the settings only makes it worse. -The Antenna still doesn't pickup a signal, I've tried both the vehicle's antenna with the supplied adapter and secondary antenna plugged directly into the receiver. -With my brand new iPhone 15, wireless CarPlay works sometimes. You never know. -When plugged in (using an Apple cord both directly into the receiver and through the vehicle USB), it still doesn't always work, but suggests to pair your phone via Bluetooth (which shows on the phone and unit as connected). -When CarPlay actually works, the volume needs to be at 90% to hear it through the speakers at all To be fair to the wiring interface, all these issues could be related to the receiver. The initial install wasnt horrible and credit Crutchfield for that.

Confusing

So So confusing to use, the wiring diagram doesn't help at all really. If you're trying to install yourself and have no prior knowledge you will not be able to get it done. Maybe they should include a PAPER diagram with the product that actually has that products diagram not 6 diagrams on a website to pick from and find one that matches the best which only 1 diagram says about 75 of the wires it has. In All it was very confusing to use and install.
Pros: helped my car play the new radio
Cons: very hard to install and diagram online is hard to follow

ROBERT from HACKETT, AR on 9/18/2023

this is a good interface for gm vehicles. i would give it a higher rating but, it says on the Crutchfield website that it retains factory satellite radio, it does not! I called tech support and the told me that it in no way was able to retain factory satellite radio. I called the manufacturer tech support and the told me the older versions with the blue case did retain satellite radio on certain vehicles but the newer black box version does not. also the chime has a poor sound, it works just not the best sound. I would have given this 4 stars due to the chime sound quality but i gave it 2 stars because of the improper advertising on the Crutchfield website. i will say the pac website it doesn't imply anywhere that you can use your factory satellite radio receiver with this unit.
Pros: all functions seem to be retained as advertised except satellite radio.
Cons: chime sound is poor quality, older version had ability to retain satellite radio this version does not.

This was my first time doing anything like this, so I was a little hesitant but managed to figure it out. Forgot to remove the negative cable off the battery and blew a fuse that took me longer to figure out than I care to admit so I called tech support and they got me up and running in minutes lol. The wires even are labeled which was my favorite part made it super easy. Took me a minute to figure out that you have to set the parking brake to hook up the Bluetooth but so far, it's working great.

The interface itself does what it's supposed to do, but the chime must be borrowed from a dollar store toy or either mine is faulty. The turn signals sound like a 80's Nintendo game coming through a busted tv speaker..not sure that even does it justice. I called Crutchfield and they said it was normal for the chime to sound lousy and not to expect it to be any better.they didn't even offer to send a replacement to replace it with. It's made my truck feel very cheap, and I hate it so bad. Not happy with this purchase or Crutchfield's response this time..they're usually better than that.
Pros: Not many. It did hook the alpine iLX 650 up but that's all I can say.
Cons: Door chime and turn signals now sound like a hand me down toy from Christmas of 89! I would not recommend look into another brand of interface is all I can say.

2009 Cadillac Escalade - update wiring interface
David from Bradenton, FL on 4/11/2023
When I recently purchased my 2009 Cadillac Escalade it had an aftermarket radio and an Axxess GMOS-LAN-02 interface in it. I changed out the radio to a Dual XDCPA11BT that I had in a previous car but the steering wheel controls, fader and subwoofer did not work. I removed the Axxess interface and installed a PAC RP5-GM31 wiring interface after discussing the install with my Crutchfield advisor. He could not guarantee that it would work since the Dual radio I had was not in the Crutchfield database, but he said I could return the PAC interface for a full refund if it did not work. This gave me the confidence to move ahead with the purchase. The install went smoothly and the steering wheel controls now work, the fader works both front to back and side to side, and the subwoofer works. Since this is an older GM car the Onstar radio is obsolete but the PAC interface, with a simple pushes of the programming button, disables the in-car bluetooth and Onstar access to the steering wheel buttons.
Pros: Easy Install All advertised functions work as described

Used this interface harness when I upgraded the wife's cars dated / worn stereo unit. It made the install very easy and retained all the cars OG functions.. like SWCs. I recommend for and later vehicles as they have many different features that most will not want to lose.
Pros: Makes stereo upgrade/ swap easy and retains Cars features that share/ use the stereo.
Cons: Instructions are not very clear. Ex. In the instructions for The one harness that connects the interface box to the head units harness it instructs to wire the red, yellow and ground wires together. those wires are not on the interfaces harness mentioned. They are actually on the harness that contains an RCA for video. Other than this.. works great~

Great product, instructions could be better.
Wayne from Harleysville, PA on 1/1/2023
2009 GMC Sierra
I just installed the RP5-GM31 in a 2009 Sierra 2500HD. My wife bought it along with a Kenwood DNX577s receiver. She spoke to an advisor who did a great job helping her through the process. They suggested this combo with a custom wiring harness. So far it's been great with one simple and silly thing. My truck had Bluetooth. My phone was paired to the truck. When testing an incoming call, I would pick up the call and the stereo would shut off and the call wouldn't come through the stereo, it came through the truck Bluetooth. I had to turn the truck off and back on to get the stereo to power back on. I tried a number of things including trying to reprogram the steering wheel controls. All that did was mess up the controls. The instructions from PAC Audio that deal with reprogramming the functions couldn't be more cryptic. Finally I found a YouTube video of a guy installing the same RP5-GM31 in a 2011 Silverado (close match to mine) and during his video he mentioned the same thing. Unpair the phone from the truck - bingo. I didn't see this in the instructions or on PAC Audio's site. I would give the controller a 5 star rating if the instructions and troubleshooting were more clearly outlined. I'm happy to change the rating if someone shows me where I went wrong or what I missed in the instructions otherwise I suggest making this more obvious. You have a great combination of products that work well together.
Pros: Custom wiring was plug and play No-cut installation in my truck
Cons: The chime sounds cheap The instructions from PAC Audio were not clear

Great except antenna adapter
Micajah V from WASHINGTON, NC on 11/25/2022
2007 Chevrolet Tahoe
This would've gotten 5 stars if the delivered antenna adapter had worked as flawlessly as the original antenna. After installing my new stereo, I lost the ability to pick up a lot of my previous local or distant radio stations. Since I was able to pick up a few stations before the install, I knew the factory antenna was working ok. I live in a remote area so I wasn't expecting to get a LOT of stations - but I wanted to at least dial in the 4-5 I had prior to the install. Crutchfield Advisor Chuck worked with me and determined that the antenna adapter sent with the radio installation was either incorrect OR it was a bad one. Regardless, he sent over (free! mind you) a different antenna adapter and WOW. Not only could I pick my previous stations, but I was able to add about 8 more! Very happy with my several installations from Crutchfield. Its customer service has always been top notch. Thanks Chuck and Crutchfield!
Pros: Supremely easy to connect new radio with existing wiring After purchase support has been great
Cons: Delivered antenna adapter was either broken or wrong one. Crutchfield advisor Chuck got me straightened out though.

Interface isn't working properly with my vehicle. Radio would not power down after key was removed from ignition and the door being opened. I tried everything and even took my car to a local installer and they weren't able to fix the issue. Did chat support with Crutchfield and they couldn't help me resolve the issue. Works, but confusing install, chime wire too short
William from La Mesa, NM on 9/28/2022
2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
First, once I got everything figured out, it worked perfectly and all steering wheel controls worked. Instructions said I should check for firmware updates, and it directed me to download software for the update. Okay, did that only to find that the software was only good for another model, and no way to find the software to update for this version. Suggest a link to wherever the correct software is. Bottom line: everything worked as is, so firmware update apparently not needed for me (2013 Silverado HD LTZ), but YMMV. Also no guidance on where or how to mount the thing, but had space behind the new head unit, so a couple of #6 screws did the trick. My only real beef if that the wire to the chime unit was too short to reach outside of the dash, so there was no way to put it in the recommended location without splicing in an extension. Decided to turn it to max volume and mount below the radio, but that makes it pretty quiet. I may end up splicing in an extension after I drive with it some.
Pros: Steering wheel controls worked perfectly
Cons: Chime unit wire is too short. Instructions for updating firmware are misleading.

Merrick from Yankton, SD on 9/14/2022
Small package means wires out all sides, which could be a problem in some installations. Worked perfectly for me though as there was a space behind the head unit to tuck it nicely. Pros: Retains factory functions
Cons: Could be hard to fit in some installations

MUST HAVE in my case. Trading factory for aftermarket, you lose a lot of features, including chimes and OnStar. With this interface, you get them all back and then some... Between Crutchfield and manufacturer's instructions, wiring all my different harnesses together was pretty straightforward and easy. I was able to get everything connected and neatly wrapped before ever taking it to the car to install. **TIP** Remember to leave the REMOTE POWER (Blue) wire exposed so you can connect it to the wire for the amp. That is the only wiring I did IN the car was connecting the Remote wire from the amp which was previously installed. I connected the harness wires together on one side of a butt connector. I left this butt connector exposed while wrapping everything else. When installing the interface, put the wire from the amp into the other side of the butt connector and crimp. All other connections are just unplug the old and plug in the new.

Have a Sierra 2500 with factory Nav and Bose sound system. Instructions are not clear on what you won't be using from the existing connections but figured it out with some research (brown VSS connection and factory Nav Antenna connection will remain disconnected on final install) Otherwise it retained all functionality of the steering controls and such. I just wish you could program the chime more directly (i.e. remove seatbelt warning chime). Note that not all wires are used depending on your vehicle.
Pros: retains all factory controls
Cons: future upgrades require separate cable and pc connection. Pretty big to shove into the cavity.

it works as it should, now. It was very frustrating to install this with my new radio to find out the radio would not turn on. This unit was powering on but the radio did not power up at all. After spending a couple hours checking the wiring and power at all connections, I found that the relay on the switched power lead was not working. I had to cut it out and after that, everything is working as it should now.
Pros: I was able to keep my chimes and turn signals. I will also be using it for SWC once I install the controller on the steering wheel.
Cons: I was not happy that it arrived all wired up for my car and it would not power up my head unit without. If it doesn't power up your unit when you first plug it in, check the red lead for the switched power.

Works well, but requires wiring modification to deliver full power!
Jay M from Hereford, TX on 3/21/2022
I installed this unit with a Sony XAV-AX5500 in my 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab, no Bose. If you are using the PAC RP5-GM31 interface, this head unit will shut off at around 38/50 volume level. It's because the PAC module doesn't have enough power to feed the head unit and all the door speakers. I fixed this by connecting the front passenger, and both rear door speaker wires, (green, purple, and gray, both + and -, so 6 wires total) from the PAC harness going to the vehicle, directly to the PAC harness going to the head unit. This bypasses the PAC module for those 3 speakers and reduces the power demand on the PAC module. Everything works perfect up to 100% volume after this fix. You must leave the front driver door speaker (white) wires going through the PAC module to retain OnStar functionality. If you do the Crutchfield ready harness service, you could probably ask them to do this modification for you, as it is something that they should be doing already. This is a fix that has been published b PAC themselves, and is a well known solution for this well known issue. PAC should fix the design of this module so that the installer doesn't have to modify the wiring. There is no need for all of the door speaker wires to travel through the PAC, it just overloads the PAC with too much power demand. Either that or they could upgrade the power handling capability of the module itself instead. Crutchfield should have implemented this fix into their ready h
Pros: Works well
Cons: Requires wiring modification to function at above 75% head unit volume, even when using Crutchfield ready harness service.

Doesn't work for my truck
Daniel from Portland, OR on 2/28/2022

I had Crutchfield assemble the module/adapter harness so the install would be plug and play. After I got everything installed and adjusted OnStar volume everything seemed ok but about 30min later all my dash lights got bright and I wasn't able to dim anything. I found a blown fuse and when I replaced it the dimmer function was working again but sure enough 15min later everything went bright and the same fuse was blown. I took my truck and all the boxes/paperwork for the adapter to a local stereo installer and I was told that adapter wasn't the right one for my truck. Since I wasn't happy with my new head unit anyways I had them sell me a new stereo along with the correct interface module. I installed everything as instructed and haven't had a issue since.
Pros: Learning experience.
Cons: Time loss, money loss.

Good product for the most part. I have used PAC products many times and this is no different. They get really close to perfect but something always doesn't work. If you would see the stupid spiderweb behind the factory radio, you would realize what a superb deal this is...plug, play, and get on with your day (feel free to claim this quote as your own)...had a couple wires that I didn't know what they are for, called Josh (the Crutchfield tech guy who answered my plea for help), walked me through it, got it in and playing...
Pros: Stupid easy to use... Get this!

It's okay!
Crutchfield customer from Fort Wayne, IN on 10/24/2021

The PAC RP5-GM31 works with my steering wheel controls, but not all of them. My side arrow, and the call end buttons does not work. I tried tech support and they did a really good job at trying different settings to get them to work, but we never could. Giving it a 3 star because I paid for this to completely work and it does not.
Pros: Nice to still have some of my steering functions with an after market stereo.
Cons: Doesn't give me complete use of all my steering wheel controls. No options of chime sounds.

PAC RP5-GM31 Wiring Interface
Crutchfield customer from Baton Rouge, LA on 10/11/2021
Great option for preserving all the factory features I use and love. The steering rear controls and rear radio controls all work great. I don't use On Star or XM, so I was able to custom program those buttons for other features. (Note: You will lose any USB port that is external to the main unit, but most radios these days provide their own anyway). The only thing I could suggest might be improved was if the device was a little smaller. I had quite the time squeezing this into the dashboard with all the wiring attached to it. Also, the first interface I received did not work the radio tuning, track, or source. For those of you reporting problems with this, it only took a brief support call with an excellent Crutchfield customer service representative to get a fully functioning replacement shipped to me in no time. I highly recommend this interface and Crutchfield!
Pros: Easy custom programming, keeps factory features working.
Cons: A little large for today's tight dash spaces.

Overall, this maintained virtually all factory features for my vehicle including steering wheel controls. The only thing it doesn't maintain is the factory microphone - this is not a big deal as most stereo units come with a microphone. The blinkers are too quiet in my opinion. With music off or low, there's no issue. If you're listening to music at a decent volume, the blinkers are a bit hard to hear.

Very easy to install and allowed me to keep all of my steering wheel controls. Programming was not trivial so it took me a few attempts to get everything set the way I wanted it to be. OEM Seat belt not fastened chime did not carry over and turn signal volume is a little too low. Wish it would allow for me to use the existing mic from my OnStar (which I don't use) to allow me to use my phone hands free.
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: Does not allow for OnStar mic to be used for cell phone Seat Belt fasten chime not present Turn signal volume too low

Does its job
Alan from RUMFORD, RI on 3/28/2021
2009 Chevrolet Equinox
Easy to install and does its job. Works well paired with the Alpine iLX-w650 in my wife's Equinox. Only problem I had was with the "factory amplified" vs "non factory amplified" ports. Although I have a factory amp I had to use the "non amplified" port to get it to work. The chime volume is very loud with the key in, but very quiet with the turn signal. Balanced volume would be better. Crutchfield hooked it up as usual!
Pros: Easy to install and worked well to retain steering wheel controls and factory sound notifications
Cons: Non amplified port didn't respond correctly and chime volume is not balanced.

Honestly, I hate these PAC controllers. They often do not work out of the box. I installed this on and it has an internal short. If you tap on the box it shuts off. Killing all power to the head unit including memory. Thus every time the car hits a bump the stereo shuts off. Its not the wiring its the PAC box. All wires are soldered. As I said you can duplicate the issue by tapping on the PAC box. I think this is 3 for 3 that had issue. Unfortunately no one else offers a kit for OnStar equipped vehicles.

Install was easy, setup instructions were a little confusing, but tech line helped. The reason for the low rating is that after 18 months, it stopped working, I have had issues from the start, I thought it was the Jensen head unit, now I thinking it was the Pac RP5-GM31 all along.

Made installation super easy. Pre wired most of it in the house, then wired in 12V power in the car, plugged in factory harnesses and good to go. Thought there was a fault when I first turned on my new unit as I was getting heavy feedback into the speakers, but one of the connections was just slightly not in place, make sure you press hard when connecting everything to the module

This works perfectly. I even missed a step in the installation, then tried to "fix" it by custom programming. I called tech support, they called me back within 15 minutes, and fixed my mistakes in 10 minutes. Careful with installation. There is a lot of wire and if you flex the plug in connectors, they loose connection. I lot right side speakers and had to remove everything push connectors and wiggle, then keep everything on to carefully reinstall.
Pros: Works perfect
Cons: Turn signals are very quiet. Careful installation connectors are a little flimsy.

Poor quality kit
Kurt from CHICO, CA on 8/9/2020
2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
All of the wiring kits that I have purchased from Crutchfield over the years have worked well, until this one. The connectors that plugged into the module wouldn't lock in and kept coming apart. Finally, we taped the connectors to the module to keep them from disconnecting. Additionally, there was a factory connector feeding a USB port on the dash which neither the wiring kit or the stereo accommodated, nor was there any mention on the install instructions. This is the most that I have ever spent on a wiring harness, unfortunately the money spent didn't equate to quality. This was for a 2012 Chevy Silverado.
Pros: Steering wheel controls work.
Cons: Poor craftsmanship.

Purchased this unit with my head unit, took to a local shop for install and the module was bad. My options were to send back to Crutchfield for a replacement and have my dash tore apart and no radio for several days or pay the full price for a new module from the shop and send this one back for a refund. The quick easy way was to buy a new unit, which I did but for full price and now to send the defective unit back to Crutchfield for a refund, so it ended up costing me an additional $175

Matt from CRESTVIEW, FL on 7/5/2020

The connectors are super flimsy...none of the plugs that go into the controller would stay connected using the teeth & clip...I had to zip tie around everything to keep it fastened. Even then, there was a loose connection causing the passenger side front channel to flake in & out (I know its the harness on the controller because I soldered & heat shrunk all the connections from the radio to the harness itself...plus wiggling it caused it to connect).
Pros: Easy to use, mostly plug & play
Cons: The plugs & receptacle on the controller are beyond cheap & make me question the value of the product as a whole

Second PAC Product I've Owned, Works As Expected

2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2013 Silverado, Sony XAV-AX7000 With: Steering wheel controls Without: Navigation, Bose, Rear View Camera I previously had a PAC OEM-1 to add an amplifier to the factory radio, but finally have decided to upgrade my stereo after my aux port when out. No issues so far, as expected since I had no issues out of my Line Output Converter by PAC in the 3 years I had it. Wiring was simple and straightforward. A word of advice if you've never used these before: It is much easier to wire up everything to your STEREO'S harness BEFORE putting in your vehicle. So set it all out on a bench or table and make the connections versus trying to sit in you car and hook one wire up at a time while things are dangling all over the place. I used this to retain my steering wheel controls. Make sure you read the instructions and look at the diagrams if you aren't to familiar. They explain everything you need to know. The chime sounds a little cheesy compared to the GM one, but I got used to that after about a day. Turn signals are significantly quieter, but that's fine with me as well. Test everything out before you button your whole dash back up.

Does exactly what it was supposed to do - allows you to control your aftermarket stereo using the steering wheel controls, xm, and On-Star. Wiring is very complex, so I highly recommend the Crutchfield ReadyHarness service if you buy this with a head unit.

Works great to retain steering wheel controls
Matthew from HARRISON, TN on 12/18/2019
2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
I bought this for my 2007 Silverado which has steering wheel controls and ONstar. Installation was simple with the supplied instructions that were easy to follow. I paired this interface module with a Sony XAV-5000 receiver and there are no issues with the steering wheel controls. It did take me a couple tries to setup the custom buttons function but it was due to not proceeding to the next step in time. I did setup the ability to activate the voice function on android auto but I guess the firmware version isn't compatible with my Sony radio. It's not a big deal as I can just say "Hey Google" to activate the voice function if needed. There is not a noticeable delay from a button press to the function response on my radio. It seems just as fast as the "factory" radio commands. For anyone wondering, this module doesn't utilize the factory microphone for radio Bluetooth calls. I still had to use the external microphone supplied with the Sony receiver. I also like that the module produces the "reverse" gear and parking brake signals so there is no need to wire these separately with an aftermarket camera or while watching a video.
Pros: Works as intended Easy to wire
Cons: Can be tricky to press the programming button when skipping program functions for custom SWC's. It took me a couple times to get it without the module timing out and only saving what I got programmed.

Got this adapter to install a Alpine ilx650 into my 2011 Silverado. Have had nothing but problems. First one lasted 2 weeks before speakers started cutting out, traced the problem to the harness connection in the interface unit. Got sent a replacement, had the same problem with it. My connections are good, but if I move the PAC harness, speakers cut out. Not very well made. Looking for an alternative.
Pros: When it does work, it works well. Retains steering wheel controls.

You get what you pay for and this was only like $86 and it allowed me to keep all of my factory functions like Bluetooth, all steering wheel controls like volume, changing songs, answering and hanging up calls, as well as OnStar, and back up camera. If you follow the guide it will clearly to you what you maintain with the wiring interface you choose. Crutchfield makes that easy and clear on their website.

2007 Tahoe Interface and More! The New Brain!
Crutchfield customer from Water Valley, MS on 10/31/2019
I've used many different interfaces and steering wheel controls with after market head units. This one was the first one to plugin and function on the first try. There are lots of wires and connections but it's color coded and has very easy to read directions. Highly recommended because you can retain all of your features and seemingly get a few bonus ones. Enjoy!
Pros: Great and Reliable Function Easy to use
Cons: Lots of wires and connections (understandably)

A "Must Have" Addition for Safer Driving
Crutchfield customer from Dayton, IN on 9/16/2019
2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
This is a "must have" if you like using steering wheel controlls. It works flawlessly and allows you to be safer on the road by eliminating distractions. You can operate your radio or phone in a "hands free" operation. Keep your eyes on the road! It is better to wait to use the phone until you are stopped, but when necessary - this is the only way to use it! It is nice to be able to adjust the radio volume or station settings from the steering wheel.
Pros: Works perfectly! Allows you to keep your eyes on the road for safer driving.
Cons: There are a LOT of wires to pair up, but the instructions are clear AND it is worth the effort.

Everything is ok except CHIME module
Malcom from West Bloomfield, MI on 8/4/2018
2014 Buick Enclave
I installed this with Sony XAV-AX5000. It works o.k. The small black box it has in it, "CMZ" written on, it makes the sound for Safety belt alarm and turn signal. Now the first one I installed was defect, the safety belt alarm was so loud like fire alarm and at the same time the turn signal sound was so small. So the volume control it has was useless, because it controls both sound. means if you want to make the safety belt alarm sound smaller, then you literally have to kill the sound for turn signal. If you want to make the turn signal sound louder, then the safety belt alarm will be even louder. I want both sound normal, but I could not do it. I had replacement for the CMX box only, had exact same problem, then I got the replacement for whole unit, still the same problem occurs. I guess maybe the product does not go well with my 2014 buick enclave. Other than that it works fine with steering control, backup camera, and the stereo. But I am giving two stars due to the wait time of two weeks it caused for me to get two replacement with no improvement. I guess I will have to live with this defect until I sell this car.... I am not sure if I can sell the car with this problem, probably I will have to swap back to old unit when I do.
Pros: works well with steering wheel control and backup camera.
Cons: The chime module is horrible.

Had to return the first. Had this professionally installed and it did not do everything that I thought it would. For example I cant hang up phone calls through the steering wheel controls I have to do it on my phone. I also can't answer calls by using the steering wheel. I called Crutchfield a few times to make sure it was doing what it was intended to do. I really thought I was going to have functionality like my factory radio but nope. The turn signal sounds like crap also. I guess I get what I paid for. I needed to drop a lot more money to get a seemless change fro factory to aftermarket. Was a little disappointed.

Slick integration module but awful turn signal sound
Crutchfield customer from Riverton, UT on 2/12/2018
2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
This interface module did what it said it would...mostly. The steering wheel button that muted audio and answered incoming phone calls via bluetooth no longer does either function. It dramatically reduces audio volume but does not mute it, and I have to press the call button on the head unit to answer calls via bluetooth. Not a big deal. The warning chimes that now play through this unit's chime module sound different from factory, but are okay. My major gripe that cost this unit a star is the TERRIBLE turn signal sound from the chime module. It sounds chintzy, cheap and embarrassing. I don't like to complain in reviews, but PAC needed to do much better on the turn signal sound. I may end up unplugging the chime module altogether if I don't get used to it. I want to deduct 2 stars for the chime module issue, but this unit does work well overall. Big picture-it got the job done.

Works as advertised, easy installation, money well spent
JP from Potomac, MD on 1/21/2018
2007 Chevrolet Suburban
Installed with Sony XAV-AX100 to replace the factory head unit in my 2007 Suburban LTZ to retain steering wheel controls, chimes, etc. Installation of the RP5 was straightforward, wiring to the aftermarket head unit was consistent with the RP5 manual diagram, and fit was fine. The manual is somewhat technical, but thorough. No customization of the settings were necessary for stock control retention. After installation, all controls worked as they should. The chime had to be turned way down, and as a result the blinker sound is barely audible. This tradeoff is fine with me, but if you count on the blinker sound, you may have to endure a loud chime. Crutchfield's vehicle specific data suggests that the RP5 would disable the fader control for my Sony XAV, however I was pleasantly surprised to find that the fader works. If factory steering wheel controls are important to you, the RP5 is money well spent.
Pros: Everything works as described, easy installation, straightforward wiring, harnesses and plugs fit, detailed manual, option to customize controls, compact for easy fit
Cons: None

Made the installation much easier. May be worth spending a little extra to let Crutchfield pre-wire the receiver connector to the interface module connector to save time (I soldered the wires and used heat shrink to insulate). Programming the interface module took a little longer than expected due to the clarity of the instructions and you're allowed 7 seconds delay between programming steps before it times out. I had three sets of instructions to follow; the receiver, the interface module, and the Crutchfield installation instructions. Receiver installation isn't something I do very often so took a little longer than I expected. I'm thankful for all the organizing Crutchfield did with parts and instructions otherwise the installation would have been quite painful. The only thing not working after installation is the blinker sound and I agree with another review about the chime sound not being very desirable.

Product works, for the most part. My steering wheel controls do not work like promised. My pioneer deck is set up for it but for some I can't get it to work correctly. However, product does work and chimes and all other things work great.

This works with keeping factory stuff, but I'd ask a lot of questions beforehand. MY XM tuner would only show up on my Message Center on my dash. It would not display on the new Kenwood stereo that I just bought. The only way that it would display was to get a aftermarket tuner. The factory Bluetooth mic would not work unless I unpaired with the new receiver. It was not what I wanted and expected. There were some other issues that I didn't get all of the right adapters to even use the factory XM tuner. It does well, but was not what I expected. It does work well with the steering wheel controls.

2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Happy with the SWC controls, however this was supposed to do steering wheel control, OnStar and XM. I now have a vehicle I cant use XM with. Which is partially why I bought the deck and the RP5-Gm31 that I did. Otherwise, like I say if the XM worked as they said it would I would give it full 5 stars. Used with a JVC V220BT Stereo in a 2013 Chevy Silverado 1500. It has a special XM port on it that looks similar to an S-video port, but different with more pins. This is the only time I've ever been disappointed in a purchase from Crutchfield. Otherwise if your just looking for SWC, OnStar, door alarms, and signal buzzer. This works great. Not even any programming needed. Just worked once plugged in. I sent in a request to Crutchfield to find out how I was steered wrong on the XM, but haven't heard back. They are by far the best company to buy audio from though. I will say everything else went great with the install.
Pros: Steering wheel control, OnStar, Signals and door alarms work well
Cons: Does not work with XM on the JVC Stereo DVD I bought which they said it would. It uses a totally different adapter I am now looking for.

This is pretty easy to use as long as you take it step by step and make sure that all the interface connections are done. I would suggest soldering the harness connections not just because it is a better connection but it keeps the adapter harness as slim as possible. The biggest challenge was fitting everything back into the dash cavity.
Pros: Keeps just about every factory feature you need.
Cons: Need to be sure that you have the space for the extra wiring and interface box.

2011 GMC Acadia
Install went quickly and worked well. Covered my 2011 Acadia needs - easily connected to factory speaker setup, but has other features for woofer and amps that can be easily added, steering wheel controls, rear USB, chimes, and turn signal sound.
Pros: Install went quickly and worked well. Covered my 2011 Acadia needs - easily connected to factory speaker setup, but has other features for woofer and amps that can be easily added, steering wheel controls, rear USB, chimes, and turn signal sound.
Cons: Might be a challenge for someone that doesn't have some electrical/mechanical skills, but the instructions are pretty good.

2010 Chevrolet Silverado
Wiring interface works great, I didn't have to program the SWC...worked like factory straight out of the box. The instructions were pretty clear, had to figure out how to wire my aftermarket backup camera into the wiring harness but wasn't too difficult.
Pros: Works with no issues Good Instructions
Cons: Had to figure out how to include aftermarket backup camera into wiring harness Limited space in the dash can make it difficult to find room for this interface.

The chime that came with this kit has a bad connection and the controller box was hard to fit behind the radio because of its size but it works well. I still have use of all my S/W controlls, on star, and factory xm
Pros: Works as expected
Cons: Hard to fit due to size, had connection on chime
