Features
8-Channel/4-Zone Amplifier: The Russound D890 digital multichannel amplifier offers the features custom installation professionals demand while offering a lighter weight, smaller chassis and more efficient Class D power. The feature-rich design of the D890 is ideal for the demands of distributed audio systems and is also compatible with our Russound volume controls. The D890's eight channels are arranged in stereo pairs to provide discreet amplification and custom configurations for each of four zones.
- Ultra-Low Distortion: Ultra-low distortion output (relatively unheard of in other multi-zone amplifiers) allows for clean, undistorted audio even at high listening volumes.
- Zero Hum: Advanced triggering options allow the amps to operate on demand. Apart from the obvious energy efficiency, there is no amplifier hum on your speakers when the system isn't in use.
System Configuration: The Russound D890 can be configured as the main amplifier for an audio distribution system or home theater system.
- Distributed Audio: When used with an audio distribution preamp, each zone can independently drive one of several different sources by using each zone's individual line audio inputs, or a pair of zones can be bridged to create a higher powered zone.
- Home Theater Application: The D-Series amp is even up to the rigorous demands of home theater applications, easily transforming into a powerful 160 watt x 4 channel amplifier (in bridged mode). You can also choose to individually un-bridge pairs for lower power applications.
Bridged Mode: Each pair of channels is bridgeable (independently), increasing the power output to a single speaker to 160 watts into an 8-ohm load.
Liine-Level Analog Inputs: The Russound D890 amplifier is equipped with 4 local stereo RCA inputs and two bus (global) stereo RCA inputs.
- Auto Sensing Zone Inputs w/ Independent Control: Each zone (1-4) of the amplifier features a stereo RCA input. These line-level inputs are auto-sensing and will activate when an audio signal from a source is present. Each Zone input offers independent gain control for the left and right RCA channel. When used in Bridged Mode, only the left gain is used.
- Dual Bus Inputs: The two bus line inputs consist of two pairs of stereo RCA inputs (A & B) that can be used to connect two additional sources. Either of the Bus Inputs can be output to any or all of the amplifiers zones (1-4).
Note: There are no no local or bus line-level outputs.
Speaker Outputs: The Russound D890 multichannel amplifier is outfitted with phoenix-style speaker connectors that will accept bare wire (up to 14AWG) and pin-connectors (spade-lugs and banana plugs are not compatible). The minimum speaker impedance is 4-ohm for Stereo Mode and 8-ohm for Bridge Mode.
Zone Indicator LEDs: The four LEDs on the unit's front-panel correspond to the D890's four stereo zone amplifiers. The LEDs will illuminate blue when the amplifier power is on and a zone is active. The LEDs do not illuminate when a zone is off.
Protection Circuitry: A robust protection circuit provides efficient, safe and reliable operation under extreme conditions and protects each amplifier output channel. Russound's resilient protection circuit maintains safe and dependable operation in maximum performance conditions.
- Thermal Protection: The amplifier is designed with special circuitry to safeguard the amplifier under a thermal overload condition. Thermal protection mode can only engage when the unit has been run at high volume for extended periods of time without adequate ventilation and/or when speaker impedances are below the minimum levels for the amplifier.
- Short Circuit Protection: The Russound amplifier is also designed with special circuitry to safeguard the amplifier under a short-circuit condition. A faulty speaker can also cause a short circuit condition. The Zone LED will blink rapidly between Red and Blue when the Zone is in short circuit protection.
Power Requirements: The Russound DA890 comes with a detachable AC power cord (IEC 3-prong) that plugs into the back of the amplifier and into an AC power wall outlet or surge protector/line-conditioner (sold separately - see Accessories Tab). It offers 3 power modes.
- On/Off: The Russound DA890 amplifier can be set to tun On or Off from the front-panel power button.
- Auto Sensing: The Auto Sensing function turns the amplifier on when it senses an audio signal at one of its stereo RCA inputs. When no signal is present for approximately 10 minutes, the amplifier will turn back off.
- Trigger In/Out: A 12V trigger input (3.5mm) and output (3.5mm) allows power on/off synchronization with connected source components that also feature 12V triggers.
Mounting Options: The Russound D890 amplifier can simply be tabletop mounted on a shelf of a stand or inside a cabinet using the included feet. It can also be mounted in a 1U rack-space within a component rack using the supplied brackets and screws. The feet of the amplifier should be removed when installing the unit in a component rack.
- Tabletop Dimensions: 17.125" (w) x 2.0" (h) x 11.5625" (d)
- Rack-Mount Dimensions: 19.0" (w) x 1.75" (h) x 11.5625" (d)
Note: The amplifier offers cooling fans on the side and should have at least 2" of clearance on each side of the amp for proper ventilation.
Optional Volume Controls: The Russound D890 amplifier can be used with all Russound autoformer-based volume controls (sold separately).
The Russound D890 replaces these items:
- 8-channel amplifier with 4 independent playback zones
- 50 watts per channel (bridgeable to 160 watts)
