About the Universal MX-1000
The MX-1000 takes Universal's Home Theater Master series to a whole new level of ingenuity, wihout sacrificing user-friendliness.
Its high-contrast, low-glare LCD gives you touchscreen control of up to 12 audio/video components. Electro-luminescent backlighting provides bright, energy efficient illumination of the buttons and LCD screen for operating the remote control in low light.
The MX-1000 is an extraordinarily capable machine, but unlike some other high-end remotes, it's easy to use right out of the box. Its pre-programmed "database" of popular IR commands gets you up and running right away. Of course, you can easily "teach" the MX-1000 any command you like, or program powerful "macros" to automate sequences of commands.

More details on the Universal MX-1000
Product Research
Overview: This is a pre-coded AND learning (programmable) remote with a large (2.335" x 2.335") touch screen LCD, so it can control most brands and models of audio, video and A/V components. The LCD can be backlit (green) and it's contrast can be varied for better viewing. This remote requires four "AA" alkaline batteries (included). The approximate life span for the batteries is about four months. Program codes are stored in flash memory, so batteries can be replaced without having to reprogram the unit.
Touch-screen and Button Control: In addition to the touch-screen, the unit also has the following illuminated buttons: Main and Page, used to access the various menus, power button, volume up and down buttons, mute button, previous channel button, channel up and down buttons, play button, rewind button, fast forward button, stop button, a joy-stick control that allows you to access menu functions and a light button that turns the illumination on for a preset amount of time (can be set from 0-120 seconds).
Compatible Components: This remote can control up to 12 components. It is preset to audio, tuner, CD, DVD, LD, tape, sat, cable, TV, VCR1, VCR2 and aux, however, any device button name can be changed to control another type of component.
Learning Function: In addition to the components which can be entered by using the supplied codes, this remote can also learn most functions of any infrared remote; thus units which are not pre-coded can be learned. Learned commands may be erased one at a time or all at once for a specific component. The memory capacity is up to 780 commands.
LCD Button Editing: You can add or delete buttons, change the button size and shape, move the button locations and edit the text on the buttons on the LCD screen.
Computer Compatibility: This unit has a stereo minijack plug and is supplied with a 9-pin serial cable to allow you to customize the remote using a compatible PC. The PC Editing Software (MX Designer) allows you to customize virtually every aspect of the MX-1000 remote control, from LCD screen layout to button functionality, and it can be downloaded at the Universal Remote Control website (http://www.universalremote.com).
Volume Punch-through Function: Allows you to use the receiver's volume control, VCR or DVD transport buttons and channel +/-in a different mode (for example, during satellite mode).
Touch-key Display: You can select either a basic-function display (which shows only the most common functions) or a full-function display which shows all functions available.
Macros: There are three types of macros which can be programmed. There are three macro buttons on the LCD which can send out up to 28 commands each. These buttons are normally used to turn all of your components on or off with one button press. Each of the twelve device buttons can be programmed to send out to 14 commands. These are normally used so that your receiver will automatically switch input when you press a device button. You can also create up to 60 favorite channel buttons each of which can send out to 14 commands. This is normally used to quickly select a favorite channel. Delays (in .5 second increments) can be entered between commands.
Adjustments: The buzzer which sounds when a button is pressed can be turned to high, low or off, the back light on time can be adjusted from 0-120 seconds, the LCD on time can be adjusted from 5-120 seconds, and the low battery warning can be adjusted from 10-50% battery power.
Operating Distance: The remote can control components up to approximately 40-60 feet away; results will vary depending on the IR sensitivity of the components being controlled.
Controls: Most of the controls on the unit are shown on the touch screen LCD, which varies based upon the functions available for the selected component. In addition to the LCD controls, this unit has the following buttons (the buttons are illuminated whenever the LCD is)
- Light: turns on the backlighting
- Main and Page buttons: used to access menus
- Power button
- Previous channel button
- Channel +/- buttons
- Volume +/- buttons
