Features
Marine Tested: Rockford Fosgate uses industry standard tests (ASTM B117 salt/fog and ASTM G154 UV) to ensure the M1D4-12 subwoofers are durable in the difficult marine environment.
Impedance Switch: A switch on the input terminal allows you to easily change the subwoofer's impedance between 2Ω and 8Ω, internally changing between wiring the dual 4Ω voice coils in parallel and in series. (The connected amplifier should be off when changing the impedance.) The power handling is the same for either setting; 300 watts RMS/1200 watts peak.
LEDs: There are red, green, and blue LEDs on the back of the grille to create a glow on the woofer cone. The LEDs can be powered individually, or in any combination you like. Depending on what combination of LED wires is connected, they light red, green, blue, yellow, pink, aqua, or white. A 12 volt power supply is needed to turn the LEDs on and a 1-amp fuse should be added in-line (fuse not included). The LEDs can also be controlled using Rockford Fosgate's LED Controller (item number 575PMXRGB, sold separately). An LED power wire harness is included with a 4-pin waterproof Deutsch DT Series connector that plugs into the subwoofer frame.
Speaker Terminals: In addition to standard male quick slide terminals, the subwoofer also has a 2-pin waterproof Deutsch terminal. A speaker wire harness with a 2-pin waterproof Deutsch DT Series connector is not included.
VAST Surround: The Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) increases a speaker's effective radiating cone area without increasing the size of the basket.
Klippel Verified: The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Rockford Fosgate optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.
Stainless Steel: The mounting hardware is stainless steel to resist corrosion.
Enclosure/Free-Air: The sub can be mounted in a sealed or ported box, or in an infinite-baffle (free-air) application. The optimum internal volume of a sealed enclosure is 1.65 ft³; from 1.25 to 1.75 ft³ is acceptable. The 1.65 ft³ enclosure yields a -3dB point of 43.1 Hz. The best ported enclosure volume is 2.45 ft³ using one 4" diameter x 14" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 35 Hz and a -3dB point of 36 Hz. Infinite-baffle mounting yields a -3dB point of 43.3 Hz.
