Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Prime R1200-1D is a mono Class D amplifier. It is optimized to power subwoofers, and is 1-ohm stable. The Class D design is very efficient with a cast aluminum heatsink to keep it in a small footprint. The amplifier has 85% average efficiency at 4-ohms or 2-ohms, and 80% at 1-ohm.

CEA 2006 Compliant: The R1200-1D's power ratings are measured according to the strict standards dictated by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards allow you to accurately compare the rated power output of all CEA 2006-compliant amplifiers, even different brands. Manufacturers who adhere to the standards can display the CEA 2006 logo on their products and packaging. The RMS power output is as follows (measured with a 14.4 volt input, <1% THD+N, 20 Hz-250 Hz):

  • 4-Ohm: 400 watts x 1
  • 2-Ohm: 800 watts x 1
  • 1-Ohm: 1200 watts x 1

LED Indicator: The amplifier is equipped with a top-mounted LED indicator which illuminates blue when the unit is turned on. The LED illuminates red when a protection circuit engages (short circuit or too low an impedance is detected at the speaker connections). The amplifier automatically turns off if this occurs.

Mounting: The amplifier can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or inverted using the supplied mounting screws; horizontal mounting (right side up) will provide the best cooling.

Controls

Amp Controls: The R1200-1D has the following top-mounted controls:

  • Gain Control: a rotary gain control that can be adjusted from 1 to 11
  • Low Pass Filter: a 12 dB/octave Butterworth low pass filter with a crossover point variable from 50 Hz to 250 Hz
  • Infrasonic Filter: a variable 15-40Hz, 12 dB/octave infrasonic filter designed to prevent frequencies below the audio range from being applied to the subwoofer
  • Punch EQ: a rotary bass boost control, centered at 45 Hz, from 0 dB to +18 dB

Remote Punch Level Control: The amplifier includes a wired Remote Punch Level Control, which is linked to the gain control of the amplifier. The module allows you to remotely control the output level of the amplifier from the dash or center console of your vehicle. The Remote Punch Level Control features a rotary dial, and comes with mounting hardware and a 16.5' connector cable.

Connections

Terminals: The amplifier features heavy duty, nickel-plated set-screw terminals. The set screws can be tightened or loosened with the supplied 3mm Allen wrench. The terminals include:

  • Power/Ground: will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire
  • Remote Turn-On: will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire
  • Speaker Terminals: will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. Two Positive (+) and Negative (-) terminals are provided for installation flexibility. Both terminals are wired in parallel internally.

Fuses: The amplifier does not have on-board fuses. A 100A fuse should be placed on the power wire within 18" of the battery.

RCA Input Jack: The RCA input jacks are nickel-plated to resist signal degradation caused by corrosion.

RCA Pass-Thru Jacks: The nickel-plated RCA pass-thru jack provides a convenient source for daisy-chaining an additional amplifier without running an extra set of RCA cables from the front of the vehicle to the amplifier location.

I have (2X) P3 Shallow DVC 2Ohm 12in 400W RMS. I think I have them wired to 2 Ohm and one connected to each channel is that still 2Ohm since it's internally bridged.?

If you have each speaker connected to one channel the amplifier would see one ohm
nicholas  Jul 13, 2019
A
Ismael, if you have each sub wired in series to make the impedance 4-ohms per sub, and then connect each sub to its own terminals, you will have a final impedance of 2-ohms, and get 800 watts ( 400 per sub).

Q
I have a single p3 12 inch dvc at 4 ohms. I understand the amp is 800 watts at 2 ohms, is that too much power for my single subwoofer. Iâ??ve been told the Rockford subs can take way more power than advertised. Is this true???
david  Dec 30, 2017
1 answer
A
You can have some excess wattage from an amplifier when you set the gain correctly. Doing so will run the amp below it's full capacity allowing it to operate cleaner, cooler and last longer. Q
How can I hook up a single voice coil 4 ohm subwoofer to this amplifier it's rated at 400 watts rms?
david  Nov 29, 2017
1 answer
A
It's very simple; you'll connect the positive & negative terminals of the sub to the matching positive & negative terminals of the amplifier. https://images.crutchfieldonline.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/1SVC_4-ohm_mono.jpg I hope that helps. I HAVE --ROCKFORD FOSGATE R1-2X12 - 2 12 INCH SUBWOOFERS @ 400RMS / 800 PEAK. WILL THIS ROCKFORD FOSGATE R1200-1D AMP BE TOO MUCH POWER OR ENOUGH ????
michael  Nov 08, 2017

A
For best sound quality, we recommend getting an amp that doesn't output any more that 150% of the subwoofer's top RMS watts that it can handle. That being said, adjusting the gain as Austin mentioned will allow you to use this amp with your subwoofers because when this amp is turned down, it will not output enough power to blow your subwoofers. Feel free to call an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 for a personal recommendation on an amp. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Q
I'm running (2) 12" Alpine type R's (4 ohm DVC) @ 1ohm powered by a Rockford Fosgate R1200-1D amp @ approximately 34-40 hz. I switched to a ported enclosure (Rockford Fosgate) that fell into the Type R specs. I have them inverted, mainly to keep them cooled down. My power and ground(which is grounded very well with paint sanded off) both zero gauge. I did the big 3 upgrade using all zero gauge also. Im currently only running one battery. I have another one but didn't hook it up because I'm not sure if it would help much. Reason I think that is if my altenator can't keep up with one battery, no way it can handle two. I may be way off thinking of it that way, so if I'm wrong, please spate me the harsh comments. I've had this setup in a few cars and never had issues with dimming headlights. But in current car, 2008 Impala, it's happening. Don't have money for a high power altenator at this time. Not a big fan of capacitors but I bought a 1 farad one to see if it would help. Didn't help at all, so I removed it. So if anyone can help me at all, I really appreciate it. Also, I wondering if I can get more out of my subs? Gains: 34-40hz, punch EQ is about 25% up, infrasonic is about 30hz, and the gain is at 7 out of 11. It seems like can get a lot more out of my subs, but definitely don't want to overpower them. Again, i you'd really appreciate some feedback

I used two AGM batteries (65Ah each). I installed the 22nd one in the rear of the car.

I have two of these amps running 8 subs. The infrasonic should be turned all the way down to avoid damage for one. And I have an oscope. Seven on the gains is way above distoirtion. I have done multiple tests and around three and a half on the gain is where clean signal to the subs starts to go all bad. Also matched batteries is where you would want to go when you get the cash. The second battery helps to level out the draw and allows the smaller altinator to run at a more level rate than jumping up and not able to meet the demands. First lower the the gains and it should help with the lighting.

What is best sub to power with this sub ?Bought a kicker comp VR 2ohm DVC and fried the sub in 30 minutes of playing it. Wired 1ohm gain up to 7.

i would go with 2 kickers or 2 Rockford fosgate p2 also make sure the subs can handle the rms cause they burn out really fast if they are getting to much power

Wired down to 1ohm? Sounds like you sent too much power to your sub. What was the sub RMS rating?
william h  Feb 06, 2016
A
well i run the 1ohm fosgate sub 12'' 600w rms the trick is you have to set the gain properly if you don't it will fry it.. lets say your sub took 600w rms ,and that equated to 30v which it doesn't, after a bunch of math then you have to set your gain on your amp playing a 50 hrz tone just before clipping your max volume, then adj your gain to 30 volts with a volt meter, or you risk burning all subs up! due to over voltage their are some youtube videos you can find on setting the gain this way . im not worried about it, i don't run mine that hard good luck

I matched my R1200-1D with 2 fockford P2D4-12's. I also have them wired to 1 ohm. Only have had them for a little over a month and the BEAT! U need to match your amps RMS wattage to ur subs. Your amp has 1200 watts RMS at 1 ohm so your subs should have no less than 800 watts RMS together. An amp having a little extra power is a good thing. If u are running just 1 sub then it should have at least 800 watts RMS by itself. Also turn down your gain some. I wouldn't recommend having it over 3 or 4.

I have 2 rockford fosgate p2 wired at 1 ohm gain set around 7 an it sounds amazing couldnt ask for a better setup

Q
How would connect this sub to power one 4ohm DVC 1200 rms subwoofe? Most of the documentations is for 2 subwoofers. When it says 800w RMS @2ohms x 1 channel, what exactly does not mean considering this is a 2 channel amp?? Does it mean each of the channel is 800? From what I can tell this sub is not bridgeable.
bwana  Sep 13, 2015

A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The R1200-1 is a single channel amp. With a 4-ohm DVC subwoofer you would be getting 800 watts RMS (you would wire the voice coils in parallel for a 2-ohm load). While this will work, it's not an ideal match for the sub you described. You can find out more info on matching subs and amps by checking out some of our articles here: http://www.crutchfield.com/lg_100/Car-Amplifiers-How-To-FAQ-and-Shopping-Guides.html If you get a chance have a quick call or chat with an Advisor. They'll be able to help you pick out an amp that will match your system and your budget. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

I have two 12" Pioneer Champion series pro dvc subs. Rated at 1000w and I have them at 2 ohms. Can I run both off of this amp? Or should I install my second one amd connect my other sub?

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: If your subs are 1000 watts RMS apiece that amplifier isn't enough power. You would only get 400 watts RMS per sub when presenting the amplifier with a 2-ohm load. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
