The Wemo Smart Plug gives you smart Apple HomeKit control over anything you plug into it. Manage a lamp or other small appliance using the Home app on your iPhone®, iPad® — or by asking Siri. Or use a Wemo Stage Scene Controller for pushbutton control. The plug also works with all HomeKit devices including Wemo Smart Video Doorbell to turn on lights when motion is detected.
Note: this plug works exclusively with Apple HomeKit and is not supported in the Wemo app.
Connected by Thread
This plug connects to your smart devices using Thread or Bluetooth. Thread creates a mesh network by making each device (or node) in the system an access point. The more Thread devices you add, the stronger your network becomes. You don't need a third-party hub or Wi-Fi bridge, and you'll get faster and more reliable control, because each Thread-enabled node acts as a router within its easily expandable mesh network.

Overview: The Belkin Wemo Smart Plug with Thread (WSP100) is designed for use within the Apple HomeKit smart home ecosystem. This wireless plug-in AC outlet allows you to control electronic devices with your iPhone or iPad, Mac computer, Wemo Stage, or by asking Siri. The Smart Plug works with any AC outlet in your home, and has a single standard AC outlet for plugging in lamps, fans, small appliances, and other devices you want to control. It is small enough that it doesn't obstruct other outlets when plugged in, and allows you to plug a second Smart Plug into the same duplex outlet. The Apple Home app can be used to turn the plugged-in device on or off, and set schedules. The WSP100 is designed for residential indoor usage, and should be used in dry areas only.
Note: The Smart Plug's electrical rating is 120V AC / 15A / 60Hz / 1800W.
Built on Thread: Thread (IEEE 802.15.4-2006) is a fast, reliable Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) that is designed specifically for smart home networking. This low-power, low-latency mesh network requires no hub or bridge, and allows Thread devices to directly communicate with each other. Each Thread-enabled device acts as a mini-router, and the more devices that are added to the network, the stronger the network becomes and the wider the coverage. When setting up the Smart Plug, you can pair it with your iPhone or iPad using NFC (near-field communication) touchless pairing, or by manually entering the 8-digit HomeKit code printed on the sticker on the side of the plug and on the Quick Start Guide.
Note: If the Wemo Smart Plug is your only Thread device, you can still connect the plug to your smart device via Bluetooth.
Wemo Stage: The Wemo Smart Plug with Thread works with the Wemo Stage, another Thread-enabled device. Wemo Stage allows you to create and manage up to nine scenes for lighting, entertainment, security, and temperature. You can incorporate the WSP100 into the scenes to turn on lights, fans, or other small appliances that are plugged into the Smart Plug.
Apple HomeKit: The Belkin Wemo Smart Plug with Thread works exclusively with Apple HomeKit, and can be controlled via the Apple Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. With the Home app, you can turn your Smart Plug with Thread (WSP100) on or off, or set up schedules for controlling the plugged in devices. The Home app is available for iPhone and iPad running iOS 10.0 or later. For automated actions, or for controlling lights when you're away from home, an Apple HomePod, Apple TV, or an iPad setup as a HomePod is required. Otherwise, you will only be able to control the Smart Plug when you're at home.
Note: The WSP100 is not compatible with the Wemo app.

So far so good. A really inexpensive and reliable way to add some smarts to a lamp or other appliance. Currently I use mine with the Christmas tree lights, tuned to automatically turn on in the morning and off at night.
