Great clean power from low volume through wide open
Nick from Columbus, OH on 7/8/2025
I am a Baby Boomer and thus I am used to Stereo amplifiers. When I called into Crutchfield to get advice on what to buy for my project, they introduced me to the Sonos Amp. At 1st I didn't really understand the power of this hardware and software combination had. But, I trusted their advice and purchased it with 4 Polk Audio Atrium 6 speakers. The installation process showed me how cool this Amp is. Once again it is great to be able to call in and get advice and support with experts. The real reason why I shop here when I can
Pros: Simple to use
Cons: Must be connected to your network to be fully utilized

A beast!

The Sonos Amp is a beast-it powers any speakers, sounds amazing, and works with all your music apps. It hooks up to your TV, fits into the Sonos multi-room system, and even gets better with updates. Add a sub for more bass, control it with your voice, and boom-you've got a killer audio setup without the hassle. Perfect for music lovers who want it all in one box! ??

Unfortunately this device cannot power both passive rear speakers AND a Sub as part of a home theater arrangement. I have the Sonos Arc as my front, and wanted to add both my sub and rear speakers to complete the home theater, but the Sonos AMP, does not support this. It will only handle the rear surrounds.

Great way to include passive speakers
Scott from Finleyville, PA on 10/27/2024
Simply works. I previously had a 5.1 system powered via a Yamaha receiver. My rear speakers were built in to the wall so I wanted to keep them. I have the Sonos Arc also purchased via CF and wanted to include these passive wall speakers into the Sonos home theater setup. Once I had the cords connected to the amp and I hard wired the Sonos amp into my home network (same for the Arc) I opened up the Sonos app on my phone. Without reading any instructions I was able to add the amp and include it into the Arc home theater setup. I did a retune via the app and the system rocks. Watching Maverick the rear speakers really make the system pop. I will be getting the Sonos sub in the coming months to complete the setup. Very happy with the results and as always the customer service from Crutchfueld.
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Costs. But in this case you get what you pay for.

Good component. Horrible software.
George from South Carolina on 7/7/2024
I formerly reviewed the Sonos Amp favorably. As a piece of hardware it remains quite capable. Some have noted that it is expensive for a simple Class D amp but I think it performs better than one would expect. The hidden issue with Sonos is its software. The most recent update was forced and has caused numerous problems to the extent that Sonos has had to apologize and promise to fix them. Two months later and problems still abound. In the iOS app Qobuz and other streaming customers cannot see their playlists in the Sonos app. Sonos is blaming the streaming providers which is absurd. This has been a pattern with Sonos since I purchased my Sonos Amp and other gear. Sonos' hardware can only be as good as the software provided to use it with. At this time the Sonos app is a disaster. It is bad enough that I am selling my considerable investment in Sonos gear including the Amp.
Pros: The Amp is an excellent Class D amp.
Cons: The Sonos software makes the Amp useless in many respects.

This Amp is my first Sonos purchase. I have it powering a pair of in ceiling Sonance MAG6Rs, wired via some cheap builder grade 16awg speaker cable from Genesis Cable that the builder put in the walls when the home was built 20+ years ago. All I can say is that I'm mightily impressed with the Sonos Amp, it's ease of use with the app, and how much power it seems to deliver to the 8ohm Sonance speakers over the far from ideal 50+ feet of cheap 16awg builder grade wire. Considering we have other prewired in ceiling speaker locations in our house, this won't be the last Sonos Amp we buy.

Not as good as Powernode in head to head comparison
Charles from Cranston, RI on 10/25/2023
Got the Sonos Amp and a Blueaudio Powernode to do a straight comparison on the same sets of in wall and in-ceiling speakers. Sonos support for hi-res audio very far behind, makes songs sound flat and with poor separation. Software is good, search across services is a great feature. but if they can't match the audio quality of the services that we pay for then what is the point? Even with all the power in this amp, the Monitor Audio speakers seemed "bored" with the signal coming in. Powernode was much more dynamic even with much less power output. Plenty of issues with BluOS software also, but sound quality was just superior.
Pros: Plugs into Sonos ecosystem Entry level price
Cons: Sound quality basic No hi-res audio

Great product
Michael from Washington, PA on 5/23/2023
I purchased five of these to replace a 20-year-old Russound Cav6.6 amplifier that stopped communicating with the keypads. This was roughly the equivalent price of replacing that unit. But I also would have needed to upgrade to newer keypads...and possibly pay someone to program them. I had the first three of these set up and working within an hour. The sound is excellent. The Sonos app feels dated, but these Amps work seamlessly with Apple airplay, circumventing the App entirely. A special shout out to Dwayne, my customer service rep. He was very helpful in understanding my needs and guiding me to this product. Perfect choice.

I have 4 rooms with wired speakers in the ceiling . One room has a TV and we wanted to set up a surround system using the two ceiling speakers as the rear speakers for a surround sound system. I also have an existing sonos sound bar and a sub in this room. I found the amps were easy to set up for streaming music or to use music sourced through the analog inputs (i.e., phonograph). I purchased 4 amps, a separate amp for each room. When setting up the surround sound system with a Sonos sound bar, sonos sub and wired rear speakers, the set up instructions in the Sonos app were not intuative. I called Sonos for technical support and they were able to help me complete the installation. To the extent that you have a blue ray player that plays CDs, the cable to the amp may require a digital to analog converter as the amp does not have an external digital input for music.

With helpful guidance from a knowledgeable Crutchfield advisor (thank you, Clarence), I purchased two Sonos Amps to power four sets of wired speakers in four different rooms. Set up was relatively easy. (There was one hiccup, which I easily remedied through a quick call to Crutchfield tech support.) Integration with Apple Music couldn't have been simpler. Excellent Product.
Var from LAS VEGAS, NV on 3/6/2022
This thing is the real deal. I was skeptical at first, given the Amp's limited input options and plain looks. I ordered Marantz's compact wifi-streaming amp for my office and was completely disappointed. I returned it and begrudgingly ordered this unit. Guess what? This wipes the floor with the Marantz. Streaming from Tidal is seamless. I am running this with Kef Q150's in my office and a compact sub, and it sounds warm and fantastic. I plugged an eARC HDMI cable in from my office TV, and it immediately set itself up, and now my office TV sounds amazing. Zero screwing around. Zero annoying setup. Zero technical glitches (like with the Marantz). Just seamless high-fidelity audio streaming to passive speakers of your choosing. I just bought another for my house.
Pros: -Excellent, warm sound. -Zero technical snafus. -Easy to set up and operate -Clean look. -Sonos ecosystem is second-to-none.
Cons: -There is some room for better audio tweaking features. -I really wish there was a remote control for when I need to turn the volume down quickly (loading the app on your phone, then tapping the screen takes a bit of time -- not ideal if you need to quickly reduce volume)

Great power, design, sound
tomK from Ft Collins, CO on 2/8/2022
It's amazing how good Class D amplifiers are today. I've had my Sonos AMP for a week and it's a sonic improvement from the well-regarded Marantz integrated amp it replaced. Running through a range of famed bookshelf speakers from KEF, Q Acoustics, and B+W, the AMP offers very articulated bass and a bit more forward vocal and top-end presentation than the Marantz. Sounds have a bit more life, which is a welcome change. The industrial design is first-rate, as the binding post assembly should go into the Audio Hall Of Fame. So well done. Of course, the reason you come to Sonos is for the app and the ease of whole-house audio and there's nothing to complain about there. Easy to set up. It was my first Sonos product and I was up and running in less than 5 minutes. Adding further listening devices is such a breeze. Why not 5-stars? Tone controls. For the price, and from the company that's known for room-matching DSP, the AMP is a little stingy at just a bass & treble control with an on/off loudness designation. At a minimum, I'd like to see switchable center frequencies for both bass and treble and some sort of dynamic loudness control - all with the goal of getting the most out of small speakers. For floor-standing speakers, you can leave everything flat and enjoy it without issue. I highly recommend the AMP, and am purchasing a second model for another hard-wired Sonos zone.
Pros: Plenty of juice for power-hungry speakers, great sound, smooth set-up
Cons: limited tone-shaping options

Worth the Investment!
Crutchfield customer from Sun Prairie, WI on 12/16/2021
The Sonos amp is definitely an investment, but the ease of use and versatility make them completely worth it. We currently have two installed in our home. We have a Sonos Arc and sub in the great room with a Sonos amp powering two Polk 70-RT in-ceiling speakers that are used for left and right rear surrounds. The other Sonos amp powers two Polk RC6s dual channel speakers in our kitchen/dining area. We plan to add one more Sonos amp to power speakers on our deck. One of the best parts is getting the TV audio from the Arc and then being able to have that audio in our kitchen via the Sonos Amp. Makes for a great experience when having people over for a big game! These are so versatile and easy to use that you will use them all of the time and easily justify the upfront investment.

Sonos Amp
Crutchfield customer from Monroe, NC on 10/6/2021
Sonos is the ideal system for whole house audio. The Sonos amp is used to power wired speakers. If you wish to have wired speakers, you can terminate the wires in a central location and have these amps located in that location. If you do not wish to have the amps centrally located, the amp can be placed next to the speakers. One amp is required per speaker pair. All of the amps are then controlled through your Sonos app. You can add Sonos wireless speakers if you do not wish to use your own speakers or run wires. The beauty of the system is that you can use any of the wireless music sources (Pandora, Amazon, Sirius, etc.) and you can play the same source in all rooms or different ones in each room. The amp is great when you want to use your own speakers. Assuming the wires are in place, the system is easy to set up and the sound is great. One last note, It is possible to connect more than one set of speakers to this amp if you centrally terminate the wires and then use a Niles speaker selector to select the speaker. Unfortunately if you do this, you will not be able to select the speakers on your phone.
Pros: A great multi room audio streaming system.

Great sound, control over your volume, bass, treble, etc. by apps, can control multiple rooms, small unit with special heat shield so it doesn't get overheated. Fantastic product. Buy it if your can get it!
Pros: Fantastic Sound, Beautiful piece of equipment, bass and treble, volume can be adjusted by app is great.

Great but
Crutchfield customer from Daniel Island, SC on 10/5/2021
Still learning how to integrate the Amp into my Sonos system. Works well with my wired speakers. Gave it 4 starts because of cost. It's an expensive solution that multiplies when used with 4 sets of speakers. I was able to keep cost down with a 4 way speaker switch box. Not the optimal solution but a cost conscious one.
Pros: Integration with Sonos components
Cons: Coat

Sonos makes everything connect together seamlessly. Sonos' simplicity is what Apple Mac's should aspire to be like. Sound quality is perfection. Ease of set-up is unbelievable; took less than 10 minutes to connect speakers, download streaming services and get it all up and running. I'm hooked on Sonos.

AMP is the Right Choie
Crutchfield customer from San Clemente, CA on 8/17/2021
Started with Sonos speakers and app about 6 months ago so it would be easier to play music especially for my wife. Bought a Five for the living room where my Denon Av Receiver was with a CD player and HEOS (never seemed to work well with this). Since we are 90% streaming music now decided on sonos brand , MOVE for outside, Five for main room and SL1 for bedroom. Thought the Five was surprisingly good but seemed like without two of them was missing stereo feel and not quite as detailed as a regular (good) speaker system so I returned it. Ordered the Amp and wow! It is now hooked up to my Mission Silver bookshelves and my Velodyne DL8 sub. It sounds like a high-end stereo should, smooth, unnoticeable transistion to the sub, excellent imaging with instruments well placed in space. No issues with it sounding too bright as some others have mentioned. Set it up in just a few minutes, will be hooking up CD player and TV to it next. It took several months to get it but well worth it. If you are like me and want a true "stereo" in the old sense of the word, order a move for now, use it where and when you want it, then when the amp comes in build your system with it. Hopefully you already have a nice pair of speakers, if not there are very affordable speakers (ELAC, etc.) that sound great.
Pros: Excellent sound Can pick my own speakers Has just enough inputs for most everything App is super easy
Cons: None yet

I purchased this amp to replace my aged but functional Sony Receiver. But prior to pulling the trigger on this gift to myself, I conferred with a Crutchfield adviser Ms Athena. She provided me with all the information to make my decision a great decision. I'm extremely happy with this Sonos amp. And highly recommend this product. But more importantly I recommend reaching out to one of the many professionals and knowledgeable advisors at Crutchfield for any concerns or product information. You will walk away with honest, accurate and helpful information.

Crutchfield customer from Ferndale, MI on 6/28/2021
I bought this to replace a power amp paired with a SONOS Connect, in an effort to simplify things. The WIFI stability is much better on this device than it was with the Connect. No more dropouts. The sound quality is quite good streaming from various apps. The amp is plenty powerful, and handled by B&W towers without any trouble. However, I ended up returning it. Why? Because of a persistent hum with my turntable on the line input. I tried my turntable's internal preamp, I tried a Schiit preamp, all properly grounded. Persistent hum and hiss. I did not have this issue with my previous setup, and tried my TT with a different receiver as well. Seems this device may not e well suited for vinyl listeners.
Pros: Stable wifi compared to older SONOS devices
Cons: Noisy line input

Legitimate power for a 2nd Zone or overhead surrounds
Crutchfield customer from San Rafael, CA on 4/26/2021
I love Sonos stuff. I actually love their streaming system and ease of use over their actual speakers. Adding this amp to power speakers or adding a Port to an existing system is the best way to go. Partially because of the quality of sound, but just to integrate everything and allow people to play music on whatever they want from whatever source they want. Set up a client with this to power two under-eave mounted Definitive Technology AW6500 Speakers. They absolutely CRANK. Those speakers can handle up to 200 watts, and this amp, at 125 x 2 is more than up to the task. I implore you to combine these two for an absolutely awesome outdoor experience. At this particular home, the speakers are easily heard about 150 yards away into a literal cow pasture, and it's all thanks to the clean power from the Sonos Amp. I actually believe this is overkill for let's say, watching a movie with the rear ceiling speakers in your Sonos 5.1 system, but you'll be happy when you turn on music. If you get good ceiling speakers for said 5.1 Sonos system (like a DefTech DT8R) with an Arc and Sub, your rears will probably outshine your Arc big time. Anyway, if you're adding another zone, get these. Does your receiver have Airplay 2? Good, then you can sync and play everything from your iPhone, no Port added to your AVR necessary. In fact, it means you don't have to even connect this to your Zone 2 pre-out. ENJOY AND STREAM AWAY.
Pros: Small, powerful, Airplay 2 compatible
Cons: Pricey

Great solution to make passive speakers smart! I set this up with a pair of ourdoor speakers so that I could stream music (or other audio) to my deck and it works perfectly. This is another incredible audio product from Sonos. My 5.1 amp had problems so speakers were stored in a closet. Calling Crutchfield I understood how to re approach listening to TV . I purchased two Sonos Amps and hooked up a wonderful audio system for my TV. The sound quality is top notch, I can clearly understand conversation (without a center speaker),eliminated wires and all with the easy setup and adjustments of Sonos. I consider these to be a win win product.

Well First i have to give a Shoutout to all the people at Crutchfield for all their help. Now on to this Gem of an AMP. After speaking to the rep he reminded me that i could control this amp with my existing software and it had good power. Amp came in the very next day. 2 minutes to connect that's all it took . and they brought my speakers to life. it has tons of power and its clean power. for 699.00 i think its a great price for total Phone control good EQ and easy connections to a ton of music apps. A must have for home audio
Crutchfield customer from Washington, DC on 4/14/2021
This is my 3rd Sonos Amp. They are so easy to install I keep finding new places where I want amplified sound. You can quickly add whole home audio to a house of any size or age. The setup process is a breeze. The variety of input settings for connected devices (volume, delay, sync, etc.), automatic playback, switching between HDMI or RCA inputs, etc. make these a very versatile addition to any sound system or a great standalone option for a single room. You won't regret your purchase and, like me, will probably find yourself owning more than one at some point.

Best of both worlds, I have my turntable/preamp going directly into Amp, and I can stream music digitally to it as well. These Sonos products are the best. This is my third Amp and they are awesome. This last one I added was for some additional outdoor speakers. In the Sonos app, it coordinates volumes in groups, which means you can kind of set the right balance between zones and they remain tied together, although you can adjust each individually. Setup is really easy too - the app makes it really simple.

Testing out this system for our new house to be built. Using Polk Audio 80rs's. This amp has been great so far for whole house audio. We are using it with Brilliant Home Automation Switch Pads which are very adaptable to the Sonos Amps. Will be purchasing 3 more of these amps for a 4 Zone system. I believe these are aimed at a specific use. Expensive but so far very worth it for my application. Very happy with this amp. I have it pictured in my rack which I am testing for the new setup.

Excellent quality but wish it was a 3 channel amp
Crutchfield customer from Finksburg, MD on 12/13/2020
Using in a 2.1 set up, but adding Sonos Ones for 4.1 setup. Does a decent job creating a phantom center channel. Would have given 5 stars if using strictly in 2 ch stereo mode. Realism of phantom center really depends on your seating area and distance to the TV. Excellent job with stereo separation and spatial 360 sound with a pair of Kef Q150s. Only reason I went this route is because TV is mounted above the fireplace, speakers are hidden behind cabinets on the sides. Used sub out from amp to connect a Polk 8" sub to fill out the lows. Other than aesthetics and space for the center channel speaker, I would have gone with a true 5.1 system or possibly the Sonos Arc. The Sonos Amp is an excellent product though with impeccable quality, ease of setup and ease of use.

Great amp to bring passive speakers into the Sonos system.
Crutchfield customer from Bentonville, AR on 11/14/2020
Powerful and solid amp. We have a total of 6 of these in our home. It started with a simple way to get music to our patio speakers. Then we fell down the rabbit hole, adding 2 more for a 4.1 setup in our living room (already wired with klipsch architectural speakers). The setup works great and is simple enough that my wife has quickly been able to figure out how to use it. I'm not an audiophile, but a hard snob for good sound and think these produce it.
Pros: Clean Power Easy to setup Easy to use Great "phantom center" in a 4.1 setup

Review by That Really Good Looking Guy
Smartest Guy You Know from Coolsville, USA on 11/11/2020
Using this to power two audiophile PMC tower speakers. Plenty of power, soundstage, and energy. This amp is tuned for movies and video games. It excels in this signature! Not bad for music, but the real joy is in other forms of entertainment. Also, works great with their wireless amp. A solid amp with lots of input options! Get one and become obsessed with the Sonos soundscape :D
Pros: - Easy to set up - Small - Lots of power - Great input options - DAC and amp designed for movies / video games - Premium feel (no really, the plastic case is like leather)
Cons: - It'll get you to buy even more from Sonos - Not the best separation for audiophile music lovers

Freedom!
Crutchfield customer from Mcallen, TX on 11/3/2020
It was really easy to set up with the app as with all Sonos products. The best part though is the freedom and versatility. While yes, you are locked into the Sonos ecosystem, you can connect whatever passive speakers you want to the amp and make them "smart." This allows you to add speakers with superior sound, from whatever brand, and have the simplicity/flexibility of the Sonos experience. With an HDMI arc port you can also hook it up to your TV and use it as a simple 2.1 system and replace an old soundbar with it. You can add multiple amps together for bigger configurations. And the amp is really powerful for such a little box, as it can power least 100 watts per channel. You can hook up banana plugs or speaker wire, digital, RCA, etc. For me, my biggest gripe in the past with Sonos is the lack of freedom and versatility in the absence of ports/connections compared to more traditional options. This little box resolves all of that. You get all the benefits of the Sonos experience while having the freedom and versatility of traditional systems. It even has airplay 2, so you can skip the app (even if it's just for set up) entirely if you want and push audio from whatever source on your phone. Of the entire Sonos lineup, this is by far my favorite little gem. Really worth it. And it costs lower than a lot of the other Sonos products so that's a plus too :)
Pros: Able to use any passive speaker you want HDMI arc and other connections usually reserved for receivers Sonos simplicity Relative low price compared to other Sonos products Powerful little box with 100 watts per channel Airplay 2 Add any passive speakers to your Sonos collection
Cons: As with all Sonos products, you are still tied to the Sonos app for set up. Cannot be set up on its own. Not a deal breaker, but another app you have to download. Just something to consider.

Terrific piece of equipment

As usual, another quality product from sonos. I use this to power my bowers and Wilkins tower speakers, and they have never sounded better. Packs a lot of punch and the stereo separation is beautiful. It's the only streamer amp out there that won't cost you thousands of dollars. I also have the connect , play ones, playbar and subwoofer. Sonos Amp for New House
Crutchfield customer from Norfolk, VA on 10/8/2020
I bought this as the first of three to be installed in our new house. I wanted to test it with the [wired] speakers I already had as I intended to pull wiring to ceiling and outdoor speakers before the drywall went up. The Amp was easy to setup, and I was able to group it with other Sonos speakers (Play 1) that I also already had. The sound is GREAT at all levels and I can't wait to get them all setup in the new home.

Crutchfield customer from Birmingham, AL on 9/13/2020
We bought the amp because I'm the house we bought we have passive outdoor speakers on the patio That run back to the den. It's a bit of an odd configuration because there's no built in speakers in the den. And there's a tv outside. Initially I was looking at a cheaper receiver but hated the idea of a device I can only use outside. After doing some research we went with the amp and am glad we did? The box is like opening a product from Apple. You can tell it was thought through. The connectors for the speaker are separate making it easy to attach and push in. Honestly one of the best systems I've seen. It works amazing and bonus I can use the speakers wirelessly with the outside Apple TV. Very happy.
Pros: Simple, really upgrades home experience
Cons: Price

another awesome sonos product!
Crutchfield customer from Burnt Hills, NY on 8/3/2020
I started out buying 2 of these to power my outdoor patio speakers; the setup was super easy, and the app functionality is awesome to use a variety of music sources. I liked that i could play Pandora on some speakers, and music from my iphone on others and control both wirelessly via the app. The setup is really easy, takes about 10 mins. I like the speaker connectors, ensures a solid connection, yet easy to remove and adjust if needed. As far as the amps go, they provide ample power in a super small and sleek design. Subsequently, i ended up buying 2 more amps to power some speakers in a bedroom and bathrooms that were previously on zones 2&3 of an Onyko receiver. Using the Sonos option saves me space, looks better in my storage cabinet with the cool design, and integrates with all the Sonos products flawlessly. Of course, they aren't inexpensive, but, all the things I've previously mentioned were worth it to me and offer a great value.
Pros: easy to use, lots of power, sleek/small design, awesome wireless/app control
Cons: cost (still worth it though IMO)

I am able to play my Pandora lists, my XM favorites, my I-Tunes library and so on, all with a click of my phone. Sound is clear at all volumes. Couldn't be easier to use. I have the app on my phone, my wife's phone and my laptop. Simple to use and so very cool. My Sonos Amp effortlessly drives 6 pairs of wired speakers throughout my home. The 6 speakers connect to a passive selector switch and the Sonos Amp just connects to the input leads. Highly recommend!

Normal Guy Review
Michael from Stafford, VA on 7/6/2020
I purchased two of the Sonos amps to replace my two Nuvo P100 players, which went out during a power surge. I must say that I loved my Nuvo system. the Nuvo app was easy to use in single or multiple zone mode. I have been looking at the Sonos products for years now and simple thought they were too pricey. However; I decided to take a chance on the Sonos amps. I received my Sonos amps in a timely manner, thanks Crutchfield. I created an account, downloaded the app, replaced my two Nuvo players with the two Sonos amps and was playing music within 20 minutes. I appreciated the extremely pleasant experience from ordering to setup of these amps. Not only were they easy to setup, but the music is awesome! I am able to play a single zone or multiple zones with ease. I downloaded the Sonos app onto my wife's mobile phone and she was able to use it with no issues. My wife is non technical. I showed her how to use the Sonos app once and she has been enjoying the music more than me. While they are a bit pricey, for me; they are worth every cent!

Very happy with purchase as it easily allowed me hook up outdoor deck speakers and bring them into my Sonos "family" that I could easily control via app. Set up was a breeze and we up and running in less than 10 min. Sound quality is good and it has more features than I actually need and that I am not using. Taking off 1 star for relatively high price..... Sonos product line is missing a more reasonably priced mid range "connect your non powered speakers to our ecosystem". Great Product... but a bit pricey! As always Crutchfield is great to work with.

Great product, frustrating setup
Crutchfield customer from Fort Worth, TX on 6/9/2020
This is my first Sonos device to own. Now that I have it up and running, I LOVE the Amp and the Sonos app. Very easy to use and good sound quality once I figured out how to access the EQ withing the app. The reason I gave it only 4 stars is the initial setup. I read about this in other reviews and assumed the person was not tech savvy. The process of establishing a new Sonos system was maddening. The process seemed to be very user friendly, but it did not work the way it was intended. I spent over an hour google ways to get the system setup. Once I finally got it running, we have loved it. The kids have downloaded the app and simply joined the system I set up. Each of us can simultaneously change volume and songs.

Sonos Does It Again
Crutchfield customer from Cary, NC on 5/18/2020
Sonos has built their reputation on clean, simple, quality products, and the Sonos Amp is no different. Had everything hooked up and working in 5 minutes. Worked seamlessly with our other Sonos Ones in the network, and the sound is great. The only things I would like to see: 1) line out/zone 2 (to connect to another external amplifier), and 2) lower price - Sonos products feel about 25% overpriced. But, if the quality truly is there and these last as long as I hope they do, it may wind up being worth it.
Pros: - Simple - Clean Lines - Easy to Set-up/Use - Powerful - Great Sound
Cons: - No Line Out - Cost

Great - But expensive
Crutchfield customer from Oologah, OK on 4/27/2020
Great sound, power is good. Currently this is the only Sonos product that I own. I have my Sonos amp connected to two pair of in ceiling speakers on my two patio's( one pair on each side of the house. ). Previously I had these speakers connected in series as they were connected to my Pioneer Elite SC-9-87. Obviously in series the resistance is increased and the amplifier is better protected. I simply unhooked my Pioneer Elite and used the included connectors in lieu of banana plugs. I quickly and easily synced the Sonos Amp with my Amazon and Spotify accounts. As well as adding local radio stations. I purchased the Sonos Amp from the Outlet Store, and it might as well have been brand new. Thanks Crutchfield. My experience with this product has me searching for more Sonos Gear. "Need" one for the office and for the Garage.
Pros: Good power, Easy to control, good app
Cons: Price.

Have a few Sonos products ( connect, various speakers ) and I find them to work exactly as advertised. I bought the amp to use with some passive speakers in a second system that had been hooked up to a full rig ( amp, preamp, streamer, etc) in order to simplify my set up. Works great, easily integrated with my other Sonos products and sounds very good. I do agree with some reviewers who mention the need to do a little eq adjusting. I found the amp a little bright with the speakers I am using ( proac anniversary tablett ) but ymmv.
Pros: Simple set up. Very good sound.
Cons: Depending on the speakers you are using you may have to do some eq. Simple enough to do though.

In a 10 year period I have had 3 different receivers and all have had their share of issues. The Sonos Amp by far in my opinion this is the best receiver on the market. I love the simple step up & design. It works great with Airplay and its seamless with your TV ARC output. Combine this with an Apple TV and you will have a really smooth system that you can operate with just the Apple TV remote providing you don't have a cable box.

Crutchfield customer from Gainesville , FL on 2/24/2019
Replaced a Rotel receiver driving a pair of B&W 704s. Works great, sounds great, and very easy setup (using Airplay and ARC from an older Samsung TV). Much more room on top of my cabinet. One hardly notices the Amp when it's status light is turned off. Love the recessed connectors on the back. This is my first Sonos purchase and I'd buy another one or two if they cost a little less.
Pros: Small size, subtle appearance, recessed connectors
Cons: Price, bit difficult accessing software settings.

The best practical design
DLL from Scituate, MA on 2/14/2019
Over the years I have purchased every single Sonos product for some application except the subwoofer. The new Amp I bought for the power and air play 2. Another recent purchase was the beam The beam is their best sound bar and has airplay 2. To make a long story short between standard equipment with speakers and Sonos throughout the home nothing I now have is obsolete but it is better than ever. I can hear music,cd or tv in any room using my favorite stereo equipment or Sonos speakers. It really is amazing. Wireless network thoughtfully designed by Sonos. They are the best company out there,no planned obsolescence but pure creativity in making anything audio work better and to current standards. Old one or new one the amp is well designed and speakers just sound good powered by either. .
Pros: Incredible flexibility, innovative design, excellent practical application and well designed equipment. The stuff just sounds good.
Cons: ?? none! Sonos is perfect for my purposes.

Great Upgrade & Super Simple to use
Tom from Callaway, MD on 2/10/2019
Love the new design and additional power of the new Sonos amp. This thing is so simple to use and allows the entire family to like their Apple, Spotify and other streaming services to it. I do feel like the price tag is going to limit its appeal. So far I have purchased 2 of the new amps and have 2 more to completely outfit my pool/back yard.
Pros: -Easy setup -Simple to use -Brings all or your streaming services into 1 device - Small footprint & stackable - Good power
Cons: - Price

Ridiculous setup for a great product
Guest from Wisconsin on 2/7/2019
First, the product works amazing and met every expectation for sound quality, ability to adjust sound output, and airplay 2 works flawlessly across all apple devices. If you have a set of installed speakers (architectural), then the Sonos Amp is the best way to give them a new lease on life. Now, the setup is completely ridiculous. Many networks, like mine, use MAC address filtering as one layer of security. Sonos doesn't bother to list the MAC address on the product. Luckily, the serial number on the box looks has a portion that looks a lot like a MAC address; turns out it is the MAC. Second, the app setup requires the unit to be direct connected to the router for the second half of the setup. Who requires a device that touts its wi-fi connectivity to be hardwired for setup? Crazy! Sonos doesn't even bother to give you a cable. After digging out a cable, disconnecting my Sonos AMP install, and moving a bookshelf to access my router, I was able to complete the setup. What a ridiculous process that's not mentioned anywhere in the documentation. It should state in bold letters "SET UNIT NEXT TO YOUR ROUTER FOR SETUP, THEN MOVE TO ACTUAL INSTALL LOCATION". Setup took an hour due to all the steps required. It was flawless to setup; just a huge pain. Alas, I will buy another as it's the best thing going to built-in speakers.
Pros: Great sound, tons of pro adjustment, airplay works flawlessly
Cons: Difficult setup took an hour

Sound is awesome and it was super easy to set up with my existing speakers. Through the app I'm able to seamlessly control this component and layer on other sonos speakers in adjoining rooms. Love it's compact design which declutter a previously full stereo cabinet.

Sonos Amp
Jordan from Skokie, IL on 1/14/2019
This is more than just an incremental improvement over the Connect:amp. It has a little more power and clarity, which is good, but a fairly subtle difference. The major improvements are the digital input, the Alexa integration, and the digital processing that mimics a center channel for clearer TV and movie dialogue. This is a great way to enhance TV and movie viewing with stereo speakers, while also making that room a SONOS zone.
Pros: Easy to use, reliable, and outstanding sound quality for the price.
Cons: The digital input is HDMI only, and an adapter must be used for optical. No coax digital is a huge bummer.

As an owner of several connect amp's, I was curious whether this new and improved amp would be very different. I think there is a slight difference in sound clarity and quality with this amp, and I decided to keep it.
Pros: Fits in seamlessly with Sonos ecosystem
Cons: Expensive

This is definitely an improvement over the connect amp. The differences are subtle, though. The connect amp is pretty good, so it isnt a life changing upgrade. The major improvement is the clarity and power which make mid- high grade ceiling speakers sound almost like real speakers.

I am very disappointed in SONOS
Nick from Dallas, TX on 12/7/2018
I bought Sonos amp to power 4 Polk Audio Atrium 8 speakers which Sonos claim it should be able to do without issues. Well in a way they are correct and they are running but I expected them to be loud. Louder than 2 Polk Audio Atrium 8s sounded with the old Sonos Connect: AMP . Unfortunately I was disappointed because my four speaker running on the new Sonos AMP don't sound nearly as loud. I am glad I did not hook up four speakers to the old Connect:AMP which Sonos said it could do as well. Sonos really needs to make a truely powerful AMP for the price. It is a joke what you get for spending that kind of money. I guess they just want you to buy multiple. Yes I know Sonos equipment is expensive I own a bunch of it. I wouldn't believe all the hype in their advertisement. Sonos AMP is only marginally better than old Connect:AMP at best.
Pros: Gets my backyard speakers in the Sonos ecosystem
Cons: Only marginally better than the older AMP. Does not place 4 speakers loud enough as they advertise for Sonos AMP. It is designed for reach people to be bought in dozens not for individual like me I guess.

Exactly as expected.
Tim from East Hampton, NY on 12/6/2018
First Sonos product I own. Build quality is excellent, design is a great improvement over the previous generation Sonos Amp. It's a shame it will be tucked up into my basement rafters, it really looks great out on my table right now. This amp will ultimately be used to run two Klipsch All Weather Rock AWR-650-SM. As a test, I connected my rear surround speakers (PSB XB and my Emotiva Sub), they really sounded great. I think they sounded better than when connected to my Sony ES STR-ZA810ES. They should sound better since its a dedicated amp for 2 speakers. Sony AVR does a lot more and costs less. The Klipsch All Weather Rock AWR-650-SM speakers don't sound nearly as full as the PSB XB, or my other outdoor PSB-500s but there is plenty of power to fill my backyard and are still breaking in. Overall I like it, price is high just like all Sonos products, but there isn't many options out there that achieves what you can do with the Sonos Amp in a small compact easy to operate package, which is why I chose to spend the extra on the Sonos Amp, vs going an amp or second hand AVR with streaming device. Sonos is easier to get music playing and have volume control compared to using zone two on the Sony AVR which I use to run deck speakers. Sonos for the price should have included the HDMI to Optical Adapter or had an optical in. I may occasionally play outdoor movies on a projector and will need to make use of that. Oh and drop the exclusivity with Alexa.
Pros: Compact Great Design Excellent build quality Easy to operate Sounds great Ability to go Mono / Stereo via app
Cons: Should have included HDMI to Optical connector Price No Google Assistant Support, only Alexa voice control App is a little cumbersome with lots of menus and setting that are not explained

Cant Wait!!
Abner from Austin, TX on 11/26/2018
I'm rating it 5 stars because of how excited i am! hahahha! i'll return and write up a real review when the product is actually released. For reference, i'll be adding this to my living room, that will power a pair of JBL S310 II speakers, that are about continual, 140 Watts RMS (200 MAX RMS). I have (2) Play:5s , (4) Play:1s and 1 Sub. The Sub will have to be relocated to maybe the opposite end of the house now, since i'll have plenty of Bass in the living area. I can't wait to have them all playing at the same time. :-) Super stoked.
Pros: 125 Watts per channel!
Cons: I can't think of any. I'll update after 1 week of continuous use.
