Incredible sound for this price point and size.

Incredible sound for this price point and size. I mostly use this speaker for dinner jazz so have it mounted in a bookshelf and without leaving the dining table can control music selection and volume with the Sonos app. A solid investment in music quality and it is especially valuable that it is wireless!

Omnidirectional clarity
Brad from Bellingham, WA on 9/18/2023
Fantastic, room filling sound. Easy integration with Sonos Sub, which I would recommend to complete the tonal range. Used in 1,000sf open living/dining/kitchen and I'm completely happy with the volume below 70%. Used exclusively for music. Sonos app works well for music streaming, and through Wi-Fi means I can utilize Bluetooth for other things at the same time I'm listening to Sonos. I'm typically a big stereo guy but I love the simplicity of this system and the sound is so omnidirectional and accurate that it's hard to beat, and no wires!
Pros: Room filling smooth sound Simple, clean design Subwoofer integration Sonos app
Cons: No Bluetooth

Based on my purchases I suggest purchasing two 5:2's and Gen3 sub before a sound bar, you may find the beam is just fine, you may find you don't even need a sound bar. (It's not about the volume of the sub, it's about the lows, Gen3 + 5:2, each frees the other up to do what it does best
Pros: Solid construction, ease of pairing 5:2's with sub-excellent crossover .

Cracks me up when people compare these to wired speakers and say they are pricey and not as good Yes , they are pricey but it's because they are not just a speaker, you pay for the wireless technology and the ability to mix and match rather it's in a room or multiple rooms This speaker is like night and day compared to the ones, I didn't realize how heavy they are and how big they are, for a sealed speaker these sound amazing I have always had high end wired systems, you get allot of DB's with a awesome sound but sometimes a wired environment is not possible I have the ARC, sub gen 3 with ones and replacing the ones with fives Not that you need to replace them but because you can And what a difference, especially when you listen to music alone Yes they are pricey but you get what you pay for
Pros: Quality, Clean, Wireless and Aux Input for analog devices like PC or Turntable

great sounding speaker. Unfortunately you need additional equipment to listen with wired speakers from the same source.
Pros: Wireless makes this simple to place in a room. Sound quality is good for wireless.
Cons: Wired speakers seem to sound better and are less expensive. I'd only purchase wireless when absolutely needed. Klipsch reverence bookshelf speakers (wired) sound much better.

The setup was easy enough. The app took a minute to get used to and familiar. Sounded nice and loud in my home office without disturbing anyone else in the house. My only critique is when turning it on its side the Sonos logo is sideways and doesn't rotate to be right side up
Pros: Easy to set up and sounds great
Cons: Logo sideways when turning on its side feet position

This speaker sounds absolutely wonderful. It fills my entire living room into my kitchen with sound in my open floor plan. I was curious to see what kind of bass it can produce and I'm happy to say it doesn't disappoint. The lows are low and the highs are high. Setup took me 5 minutes and was superr easy. Worth buying and I plan to get some other sonos speakers now that I have heard the quality of their products. I was always a bose fan and even more so I run a state of the art theater with arendal 1723 speakers. So it's a lot coming from me leaving a good review for this product. As for crutchfield, this is now my third purchase from them and truly this site is what I call "end game" meaning it's my one stop shop from now on

I already owned a pair of Sonos Fives for the great room at our beach house. This new pair is for the garage(4 car garage). I also added a pair of Sonos Ones in both the great room and the garage. They sound awesome and are easy to set up. Volume control in separate rooms can be a little tricky at times. All in all a fantastic product. Customer service is second to none.
Pros: Sound and setup. Customer service.
Cons: Volume control in separate rooms from app. Easier to adjust volume from speakers.

Sonos and Vox Music
Carl from Nashville, TN on 7/5/2022
I've had the Five for about two months now and it sounds great overall. I stream all of my own music through Vox which is compatible with Sonos (according to Vox). Many times, however, there is a static sound when I'm streaming my music through Vox that, to make go away, I have to keep unconnecting and reconnecting to Sonos. I only seem to have this problem with Vox, but I went with Sonos because Vox says they are compatible with them and all of music is uploaded to Vox Cloud. So anyway, just wanted to share my experience.

This is my third Sonos purchase (I have two Sonos Amps powering passive speakers), and the setup was unbelievably easy and seamless (like all Sonos products). The software is great, but it could use a bit more sound-tweaking capability. The issue is the sound, which overall is quite good. Amazingly, the bass is deep and excellent -- especially for a product of this size/weight/build. I was shocked at how clear and crisp the bass is. The upper-mid/high range, however, doesn't quite "pop" like it should. The tweeters almost sound under-amped or something. It's very subtle -- not terrible -- but it simply does not shine like a decent amp/speaker setup would. Also, the single unit does not do a great job simulating stereo -- you probably need to buy two of them and run in stereo setup for that. Regardless, the sound is full, warm, and enjoyable. It fills a moderately sized room well. I do enjoy it so much (despite the shortcomings) that I would have given it five stars if it weren't for the relatively high cost. For the money, I expected a tad bit more.

I have 10 Sonos speakers in my home including a 5.1 system with a Beam a Sub and a pair of Play 1's. I have Sonos ones in the kitchen and dining room and in the bedroom. Recently I added a pair of Fives in my computer room. Wow, they blow the Ones out of the water. Such full sound with great mid-range and Good bass. The only negative is I like the others less now and only want to listen to the Fives. Fantastic sound. I'm considering adding another sub to fill out the low end.

Speaker OK, software and support poor
Guest from Hamilton, MT on 8/16/2021
I just purchased two Sonos 5 speakers. They sound OK - no better or worse than similar sized speakers from other brands I've heard in the homes of friends. But the software is just mediocre, and the Sonos people do not seem at all responsive to the needs of their customers. As one example: if you have song files on your mobile phone, organized into folders, you cannot view those folders in the Sonos app. If you go to the Sonos community and ask this question, you'll see dozens and dozens of people asking for this feature, going back seven years. But Sonos has never implemented it. I went on Sonos chat to ask about this; after 10 minutes of waiting for a rep, Jeffry came on and told me "Just to set your expectation, you can play the music saved on your phone via On This Android Device. However, you won't be able to play the file save on your music library. Since the files from music library came from your PC or laptop". That's gibberish, so I ended the chat and called their support line. Got hung up on the first time. Called back, and Mateo told me this is not possible; they are "investigating" providing this feature, but have no timeline. Bottom line: you may wish to shop around and try another company, if you are interested in user-friendly software and responsive customer support.

Hot garbage for me...
Judson from Kansas City, MO on 8/3/2021
Hot garbage as far as I'm concerned... First the power plug connection at the rear was so loose as not to stay in. Normally I'd just tweet to prongs for more friction and a secure fit. But the unit, after reading the pin via my iPhone would not connect to (Spectrum) cable wifi (same small room as the cable gear). Next option was that can't use WAP and I should use an ethernet port. I know what WAP stands, not a tech luddite) for but I have no idea what to do about it. And of course everyone has an ethernet port at every outlet in their house...(said 1% of people). Junk as far as I'm concerned. Glad you other folks had an easy time and you seem to really enjoy the product but it sucked for me.

Very happy - Great sound with easy operation
Crutchfield customer from Parrish, FL on 7/14/2021
I love this speak much more than I thought I would. To be honest, when I listened to the Sonos line in a local store, I was not in love with the sound signature. But I also recognized that it's impossible to really judge sound quality in that environment, and decided to try it at home. After getting it in my office and going through Trueplay tuning, I was super happy. It's still a hair too mid-forward for my taste...I wish the EQ allowed more granular control. However overall the sound quality is very good for what this is. I had originally ordered the Bose 500. While I thought the small screen and the presets were great features, I could not get a big enough sound (not volume), from the Bose 500. Furtermore, the setup of the Bose 500 was troublesome, having to be done 3 times to finalize properly. And switching between Airplay and Bose Wi-Fi for sound delivery was janky and often had to been rebooted to get back on track. I have found the mechanics and operating stability of the Sonos Five to be rock solid, without any of the issues I experienced with the Bose. I also considered the Denon Home line of Speakers with HEOS. I suspect I would have loved the sound even more, however it doesn't have the depth of products in it's line that Sonos does, and I read enough reviews of unreliability to keep me from going in that direction. Overall I'm very happy and I can now more forward with building my Sonos network with addition
Pros: Sound Quality Setup Operation & Reliability
Cons: No Bluetooth No Voice Assistant Limited EQ

SONOS FIVE-Amazing Speakers
Crutchfield customer from Palmyra, PA on 5/29/2021
I will apologize in advance for this lengthy review. I purchased a pair of SONOS "Five" for our patio room and could not be more pleased. Starting with the un-boxing. The speakers are well packaged in a solid box with plastic locking tabs, a fabric like material wrapped around the speakers, and all securely held by a well designed foam base. Set up was a breeze, as I was up and running in less than 10 minutes. The SONOS app guides you through the entire process and connectivity to my iPhone, and PC worked like a charm. Linking the two speakers for the full stereo effect was also easy. The SONOS speakers were visible on all devices and streaming is fast to connect, dependable, and with no buffering. The sound quality is amazing! I used the "Trueplay" feature on the Sonos App to "tune" the speakers to my room. What a difference that made. The sound literally fills the room. The woofers deliver nice base and vocals with no distortion. The highs from the tweeters are crisp and clear. Bottom line: for under $1000, this powered speaker system is amazing! Finally, the Crutchfield Customer Service is top notch. I ordered my SONOS speakers on Friday morning and they were delivered around noon on Saturday! My advisor-Davis, was knowledgeable about the product and was instrumental in my final decision to purchase.
Pros: Overall product and sound quality; Easy to set-up; Great App.

Playing records through Sonos speakers
Crutchfield customer from Clifton, VA on 3/18/2021
I had most of the house covered with Sonos Play and One SL speakers and was looking to integrate some traditional sources of music, such as a record and CD player. After an unsuccessful attempt to integrate non-Sonos products, I decided to go with the Five connected to a Sony receiver (STRDH190) to switch between sources. It was simple and effective (add a line-in source to your Sonos app). Now if I could just get the record player to automagically flip between A and B sides, life would be perfect. Also, shopping with Crutchfield was super pleasant and fast. When I am ready to pull the trigger on new Sonos speakers for outside (which I hope to be soon), I will definitely go with them again.

Awesome sound, easy setup, relatively small, super convenient multi-speaker and multi-room features. Two of these, maybe add a turntable, and you have an awesome stereo. Very good just by itself as well.
Pros: No receiver required Awesome sound Easy setup Relatively small Super convenient multi-speaker and multi-room features.
Cons: A tad on the expensive side.

Sonos Five
Crutchfield customer from Wilmington, NC on 1/3/2021
Sonos is great; the app just works, and no other wireless system that I've used is as reliable. That said, judged by sound quality alone, the Five falls a little short of other options, notably the Bluesound Pulse 2, which can be had for less than $400 and decodes MQA files. The Five sounds good, but if you want a speaker for careful listening and with flat response, this is not for you. Presentation is colored and bass is heavy.

Great System!
Crutchfield customer from Washington, DC on 12/31/2020
This is the somewhat rare product that is as good as everyone says and really IS easy to set up. The sound is excellent. We bought 5 of these. 2 stereo paired in the living:dining room, one in the kitchen ( which we lined to the living dining room) and two in our bedroom that are stereo paired. We can play them in all different combinations- same songs, different songs whatever you want. Next I'll be looking into outdoor options with the Sonos system.
Pros: Ease of use and set up, sound quality, packaging is actually cool as are Crutchfield's compostable dissolvable packing peanuts.
Cons: Not everyone can afford $500 a pop but in this case you get what you pay for.

Sonos Five
Crutchfield customer from Traverse City, MI on 12/26/2020
I bought 2 Sonos Five speakers as a family Christmas present. One is in the living room and the other in the family room with the kitchen between them. Set up went smoothly and learning how to move between Spotify on the Sonos app and Airplay for the music library on my IPhone was intuitive even for my 70 year old brain. This system replaces an AV receiver and wired speaker system. Next step will be a Sonos sound bar and maybe a subwoofer in the family room and using the Fives as a stereo pair in the living room.
Pros: Set up and tuning is easy. Sound reproduction is very clear and warm in each room. The system can be modified and expanded as needed without re-wiring.
Cons: Not cheap, but worth it so far

Connects your analog vinyl record player to Sonos
Crutchfield customer from New York, NY on 12/15/2020
The speaker is decent and has an analog audio input to connect vinyl record players into your Sonos system. This new hardware version is required if you want it to work nicely with their new S2 app and components.
Pros: Connects a vinyl record player to Sonos Supports Apple Airplay 2
Cons: Expensive if you just want an analog in connection

Omigod, they sound so good. Deep rich clear sound. Blew me away. I bought two for a stereo effect. They also look great. Sleek clean modern. I love that I can wirelessly cast and control my music from my iphone to Sonos Five. Setup was easy. Pretty much just plug and play. I wasn't gonna get the subwoofer, cuz it's hard to imagine better sound, but now that I've experienced Sonos quality, the subwoofer is a must. It's gotta sound even better, right? I'm just gonna wait 15 days so I can redeem the Crutchfield reward points I earned from my first purchase.

Love the FIVES!!
Crutchfield customer from Mattoon, IL on 9/29/2020
I was expecting good full sound from these speaker, having read many glowing reviews. Some even said 'forget about a Subwoofer!' Well, THEY'RE RIGHT! I have these about 7' high on the long wall of a 28' X 24' vaulted ceiling garage addition, straddling the BEAM over the tv and Play:1s in the rear. Both pairs are in their own group with the Beam coming on with the tv. I can add sound in stages or rattle the windows when music is playing. The 5s are the STARS of this system, of course, and will PLUNGE with the lows and sing the highs. I'm Very Satisfied! OK, DELIGHTED!!!

Great sound better looks
Leo from Elmont, NY on 9/11/2020
I had a Sonos play 5 gen 1 and I love it from the sound quality to the functionality of it. I was torn between building a wired system and going back to Sonos but Sonos' ease of use, its wireless capabilities, and the ability to expand made it the clear choice for me. I got two play five and they sound amazing together as a stereo pair. I will be adding the sub and an arc soon then some Ones for better surround and by next spring I will be adding an outdoor system.

Sound fills the room with these Santos Five speakers. Clean sound and a great way to use WiFi to spread the love of rock, jazz or classical music. Now I need to add more speakers to other rooms of the house. They can play connected together or be on a separate circuit. Thanks for the help steering me to these powered speakers!

Sound is very clean and crisp. You can really hear the various instruments in the mix. My only complaint is the touch buttons. I touched the volume up with tiny bit of water on my fingers and this caused it to increase to max volume and I had to unplug power to get it to stop

James from Birmingham, AL on 6/28/2020
Very surprised at how great these sound in stereo pair. Well balanced with detailed yet strong bass. No need for the separate sub for me. Less forward sound stage than some speakers. I am using them with the Sonos Boost to create a dedicated WiFi for Sonos since I have a lot of devices on WiFi. Works perfectly.
