Maritza CD 50 cd player and streamer.

I purchased an open box CD50. It came in all the original packaging and was flawless. IE no scratches or issues of any kind. Thus far I am impressed with the build quality. The thing is heavy at 23 + pounds. The cd playback is tremendous. So far I have only listened to commercial cd's so can't comment on cdr's etc. I have never had a streamer before and this is the reason for purchasing the CD 50. After struggling a bit setting up HEOS and connecting to the Wi-Fi I called Crutchfield tech support who were as always extremely knowledgeable and helpful. After 15 minutes I was streaming from Pandora, Sirius XM and Spotify. Awesome! My only concern is I fear my vinyl and CD collection will be abandoned. Streaming is just so damn convenient. Thus far after a week of ownership I am very happy with the purchase and highly recommend it. Expensive? Yes! But well worth it IMHO.

Pros: Exceptional sound. Convenience of streaming.

Cons: Expensive. Was not very intuitive in setting up but Crutchfield technical support was excellent!

After just one week, I am amazed at how much of an upgrade this is compared to my forty year old former JVC CD player. Paid more than originally intended, but Crutchfield had this unit in "scratch/dent" which was neither scratched nor dented in any way, and cheaper than any other seller who had these in stock. The sound quality from this unit is amazing. New to the streaming service and am very pleased with this medium also. I believe the high quality DAC is a large part of what creates such superior sound quality.

Surprised

I have a stereo that I bought in 1975. I wanted to breath some fresh air into it so I wanted a streamer, the CD was just a bonus. To my surprise my system sounds better than it ever has. My CD's have never sounded this good. Right now my biggest problem is my tuner is sad. I can get every station perfectly even from France. It makes me wonder what it would be like to upgrade everything but for now I'm loyal to my history. I had some questions and Crutchfield helped me when I needed it. Thanks

Pros: Great sound

Cons: Makes my old system sad

Great Marantz Combo

I purchased the CD50n along with the Marantz Model 50 amplifier. This is my first real foray into the modern world of digital wireless music. I started out seeking a good phono and CD amp. Although I am still in a learning phase I have so far been very pleased with this product. Its wireless features were easy to configure, and of course the CD play is great. I guess the sound quality kudos belongs to the Model 50 as much as the CD50n but they are a great combo. The help and speed of delivery from Crutchfield were outstanding.

Almost Perfect

The sound quality is stellar on the CD 50n. I wasn't expecting such a great sounding CD player or D/A converter but I was pleasantly surprised. The setup process is easy but the menu system could use some help. The biggest disappointment for me is the bluetooth transmitter. In order to use wireless headphones you have to go into the network menu then bluetooth on then headphones on and pray that your headphones connect. After you are finished listening to your headphones and they disconnect the Marantz does not remember them. You have to go through the entire headphone setup process each time you want to use the headphones. For that I deducted one star for this review.

Pros: Great sound and easy setup.

Cons: Menu system can use some work and the bluetooth transmitter is a waste of time.

The sound is stupendous, and it's a bit more intuitive to use than the ancient Denon it replaced.

I bought this to replace my faithful KCD-20; I couldn't wring any more life of its transport. I'm pleased. I listen to mostly classical music, mainly large symphonic works, and I'm sensitive to the tone of horns in evaluating a recording or equipment. The Marantz does very well with the smoothness of valveless horns in baroque works, the clarity and airiness of trumpets in Telemann, the brassy edginess of trombones in Beethoven. But it does other things well, also. Voices are rendered with clarity, but without harshness. Percussion has weight, with good attack. The CD 50n also handles much more than classical, I've fed it Beatles, Zeppelin, Doors, and more - a fair mix of heavily processed stuff to audiophile recordings. I don't always get "new revelations in sound," but what I've always liked in music just sounds better -McCartney's bass in Come Together was deeper, with more weight and groove than I ever heard. Whole Lotta Love was a whole lot more, but with less effort or strain. Shoot, I threw Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass at it, and a Presbyterian sermon from Youtube at it. Yeah, I did that. No disappointnents. The big thing impossible for me to answer to is soundstage. Brain surgery behind my left ear a year ago has left me with substantially reduced hearing in that ear - I simply cannot resolve a soundstage for anything - you'll have to do that on your own.

Pros: Excellent sound quality Soundstage performance unknown. My personal hearing limitations prevent me hearing its soundstage capability.

Cons: None that I can identify, due to my aforementioned hearing limitation.
