As good as I remembered - only better
Dan from Cottondale, AL on 7/24/2024
These are awesome. I owned Heresy IIs decades ago, but have been without for about 36 years. I tried some less expensive, quality speakers, but they weren't Heresys, so I ordered this new set of series IV from Crutchfield, and so glad I did. The magic is still there. It's as if a veil has been lifted - open, articulate, tight, very musical, and they look darn good. The magnetic speaker grills are genius. They lack a little in the low bass, but I'd already purchased an SVS sub, and the speakers and sub work together seamlessly. I love the fact that these are 'hand made' in the US - right up the road in Arkansas. These are an investment, but they pay dividends in our enjoyment of just listening to the music.

Classic Speakers Modern Sound

These are modern vintage PERFECTION. Effortlessly driven by a pair of McIntosh mono blocks, they fill the room with warm midrange and punchy base. A classic in every sense of the word. The usual magnificent customer service from Crutchfield.
Pros: Great looking. Great sounding.

Musical, Well Built, Attractive & American Made!
John from North Palm Beach, FL on 7/3/2024
Excellent, enjoyable room filling sound. Definitely reflect the quality of the recording they are being fed. In my setting they seemed to benefit from a slight amount of toe-in. That really improved the intelligibility of vocals, filled out mid-range, smoothed out treble and even enhanced base response a bit. Walnut cabinets are attractive. Cabinet fit and finish is excellent. The wife loves the lambs wool grills too. Are enjoyable to listen to at low volume levels and are quite capable of playing loud and clear. Work well as 2 channel system for TV and movies as well. Kind of a bulky footprint compared to a tower speaker, but not so heavy as to be difficult to move and manipulate if needed. And yes, I like the fact that they are American made!
Pros: Musical, efficient, excellent fit and finish, attractive, American made
Cons: Bulkier footprint than comparable tower speakers

I'm enjoying the Heresy IVs, as I knew would be the case. I have been listening to a pair of Heresy IIs since purchasing them in 1986, and I thought it was time to take advantage of advances in sound technology. The IVs are not only pleasant to the ear, but the eye as well. They are simply an all-around, well-made product.

Better than JBL L100 - enjoy music @ all levels
Pros: I was really looking at the JBL L100's, but had decided that I didn't want to play music that loud, so I ordered a set of the L82's instead. Then I saw a review of the L82 and at the end compared them to others, including the Heresy IV. I quickly called Crutchfield and asked what they would recommend. I have a sub that is Klipsch and also have a center that is also a Klipsch. They said they would definitely recommend the Klipsch over the JBL's. No regrets - amazing!
Cons: You can see through the grill straight-on a bit too much for my liking, if I have to choose something.

Klipsch Heritage Series - Heresy iv - Audio Bliss
Fred from Delray Beach on 9/9/2023
These are from the Klipsch top of the line Heritage series. The Heresy iv is the entry point, the smallest of its bigger Heritage brothers with the same Heritage 3 way "live" sound. The history behind Heritage and the Heresy in particular is pretty cool too. The original Heresy was introduced in 1957. A 2nd generation came out 29 years later in 1986. The 3rd gen 20 years later in 2006. And this current 4th gen came out 14 years later in 2020. The overall look of the speaker is the same as the original, giving it a vintage old school look very different than the typical modern speakers. And the current technology, improvements to the horns and other aspects affecting the sound quality, as well as the most significant improvement - bass - adding a port to the back which lowered the extension 10 hz. It still benefits from a sub for music requiring deeper bass, but much of the music I listen to isn't too bass heavy and the Heresy iv handles it greatly - tight, quick, and accurate too. It goes down to 48 hz, but probably lower with room gain in my condo setup. My sealed SVS SB3000 sub does integrate very well though when needed. The rest the sound quality is amazing, with a horn for the tweeter and a 2nd horn dedicated to midrange. The 12" woofer along with the rear port packs quite a punch as well. These sound "live" with amazing separation (in particular the midrange where many other speakers can sound a bit muddy) & soundstage. Best speakers I have ever owned.
Pros: Sounds quality, clarity, soundstage, separation, "live" sound, 3 way sound, bass improvement vs previous generation. Handles any genre with ease, from the hardest & most complex to the lightest & simplest & everything in between. Slick & premium look, including grill. Silver stock grill, but I also show a custom lambswool grill that has great contrast with any speaker color, but especially the black ash.
Cons: Rather wide compared to most taller & thinner speakers so be sure to measure that it will fit. Very transparent speaker so a strength can be a con too - magical sounding with well recorded music, but poorly recorded music will sound quite a but worse. Needs the right kind of power/amp, good quality class A or AB high power amps or tube amps sound the best. Easy to drive so anything can work but cheaper lower powered receivers may not sound as great as these potentially can.

Great for rock music.
Domonic from St Clr Shores, MI on 3/29/2023
These speakers sounded pretty decent from the beginning, with some distortion midrange at high volume. However after 10 or so hours they calmed down and after close to 100 really have come alive. I'm no professional audiophile, but these speakers are badass. I highly recommend these speakers. Especially for someone like me who has a small (700 feet) space with obstructions. I really like how they don't need a lot of space behind them. I don't really think I need a subwoofer. I listen to vinyl mostly, but I have them hooked up to my TV as well. Really nicely built and finished. Way better for music than the typical surround sound setups most of my friends have.
Pros: Great sound, well made, US made, high quality.
Cons: None. You get what you pay for.

Taking delivery of these was a bit of an ordeal. I drove 2 hours south to Crutchfield World HQ to learn "in stock" does not mean "in stock in the store." I was able to listen to a demo pair before paying, and the sales guy suggested I could have my pair delivered the next day (Monday), but that also proved to be incorrect. Crutchfield and/or UPS needed 4 days to get them to me. If you need an instant gratification dopamine hit, call first. The speakers are great! They're the most expensive part of my relatively modest setup, which includes a Cambridge Audio CXA81 amp, Schitt Modius DAC, and Bluesound Node 2i streamer. I don't think I have 100 hours on them yet but already I've noticed some improvements as they loosen up. Sound stage, separation, and articulation are all excellent. Strings and vocals are sublime. As the specs and many reviews make clear, the Heresy's don't drop down to the lowest frequencies, but their bass performance is great nonetheless, with texture and separation. The very deepest synth grooves might pass unresolved but the signal from any musical instrument will be present and beautiful. If my listening area was larger I'd probably opt for the Cornwalls but it's not and the Heresy's serve me just fine.

Would have loved to have the money for a pair of Fortes, until I set a pair of these up with a single 10" sub woofer to my Raven Audio Blackhawk Mk 3.1. Raven helped pick out preamp tubes to match the Heresys and I'm sending lossless audio to the amp via a Surfans F20 lossless audio player. The sound is absolutely amazing and I'm in a pretty poor room for acoustics (my unfinished basement). Plus I can actually lift them which is a huge plus. If you want real made in Americas quality and can't afford $5000 and 70+ lbs each Fortes. These are fantastic.
Pros: Size, Weight, made in America, wonderful sound from my Tube amp
Cons: Added a sun, even though they now are ported in the bottom rear, but a sub makes them sound even better.

First of all, great experience to purchase at Crutchfield. Fast shipping and easy delivery. Now onto the speakers. I was enjoying hi fi on a budget with a turntable, HK receiver and bookshelf Klipsch from the 90's (KG 1.5) which was a great setup. However, with these Heresy the sound in the room comes alive. The bass really makes a difference and the tweeter is crisp and strong. I am hearing instruments and abounds on songs I have listened for decades. If you are thinking on purchasing these, go ahead and plunge . You will be awed as I am.

A Heresy that you won't burn for
Danny from Goodyear, AZ on 1/21/2023
After 30+ days with them, I believe these are a winner. I have to say I was on the fence, but after about 50 or so hours of break in, they have really changed. I struggled with these in the first days, as my ears experienced pain after low-volume listening. I use a low power SET tube amp, and they work very well together. Vinyl is my only method of reproduction. I ordered a room full of acoustic treatment, and I can tell you the difference is night/day. Once I was able to hear the speaker and not the room, everything changed. Placement is very important with these, and small adjustments make all the difference.Due to my room size restriction, they are near the corners. I have a bass trap behind them, and they are not overpowering or boomy. I am still fine tuning, though. These have a clear high/mid, and the bass is not what you would expect. These are NOT a bass heavy speaker. It's tight and fast, but can be muddied if not careful in your placement. I listen to mainly jazz and blues, and some rock. The build is beautiful and solid, and the grilles are like nothing I have ever seen. I listen with them in place, and haven't felt the need to remove them. They are still breaking in, and I still have 2 weeks to start a return. I don't think I will. There is a lot of garbage on the internet about the brand. Use your ears and make your own decision. I have considered every brand out there, and I am still impressed with these daily.
Pros: Treble not bright Midrange clean, clear and NOT shouty Bass not overdone Piano, drums, strings all sound great Horns getting better Fit and finish is beautiful
Cons: Extended break-in, so bring patience

I had been looking for a replacement for my Polk Audio tower speakers (about 20 years old but still kicking), something fuller, more musical as we play a lot of vinyl / CD's / Streaming music & very little home theater. After studying specs / reviews I narrowed it down to Heresy IV & Polk Legends. Still Leaning towards the Klipsch I went to the store in Charlottesville & The staff could not have been better!! They set up a sound test for me, putting different types of music & answering any & all questions. I've been a Crutchfield customer for many years & will continue to be. They have the best staff & always happy to help, plus they stand by everything they sell. Who could ask for more?! Well, they Heresy's blew me away in the showroom, so home they went (Distressed Oak version). After a short break-in they really came to life, warm rich sound, fantastic mid's & highs, clean mid bass, tight lower bass. (10-year warranty & Made in USA to boot!!) These are the best I've owned & they are staying right where they are. If you are on the fence or just thinking about it, buy the Klipsch Heresy & buy it from Crutchfield, you will not regret it. Running a Harmon Kardon 7000 amp, Technics SL1500C turntable, Denon 1500 CD player & satellite radio. 8 months in & they are sounding better & better.
Pros: Fantastic sound & just gorgeous fit & finish

Heresy IVs
Kevin from Allentown on 7/26/2022
Amazing! I bought these without listening to them and got them to replace a set of Cornwall Is that I have had for around 40 years, and have been updated with new crossovers. I truly love the Cornwalls but space constraints made placing them in our new living (listening} room impossible. I set these up for failure. As an aside, I love Klipsch Heritage speakers. If you don't, that's fine. Horn loaded loudspeakers aren't everyone's thing. If you want a compact, efficient speaker that has excellent definition, a soundstage that defies it's dimensions, a combination of clarity, presence, and accuracy that bring your music to you as if it was live in your room, I can't say enough about the Heresy IVs. Mine aren't broken in yet but I can already hear it happening and the best is yet to come. I can see myself pairing these with a pair of small subs. They don't dig quite as deep as my Cornwalls, but how could they? I'm going to give them some time to break in before I make that call. Regardless of their size, these are incredible speakers. The only reason I'm giving them 5 stars is that I can't give them 6!
Pros: Presence, warmth, soundstage, size.
Cons: None so far!

Surprised !!
Phil from Melbourne FL on 6/14/2022
These speakers are amazing across the board. I have spent two months doing research and even bought some B&W 702 S2 and took them back , more about that in a minute. My setup is a Yamaha 1200 with a Rega Planar 2 table with some upgrades, this is strictly a two channel setup for music. From the first note of Jack Johnson I was hooked, they are not even broke in yet and I am looking forward to more details as they settle. I have been a long time Klipsch owner. I own RF83/82 and RP600M. I thought my music ear was changing. So I bought B&W 702 s2 and spent about 15 hours moving them around the room to try and get bass out of them. I let them run for two days hooked up to my Bluetooth receiver, figured they needed some break in. Still not satisfied so I returned them. Went back to doing more research and went Heresy IV for the win. I set the Heresy IV in the same spot as the B&W's, due to the fact that is where I did get the best sound out of them. The Heresy IV was dialed right in... little toe in and out to play with sound but that was it. They are not as forward as you think and the bass is plentiful!! If you like a live sound and want to feel like the band is in room. Do not hesitate!
Pros: Speakers look great Sound stage is wide Bass is plentiful

No frills review for a great speaker!
Christian from Hutchinson, KS on 5/11/2022
I've had my Heresy's for awhile and I'm going to share that I respect them now as much as I did while reading and researching them pre-purchase. I spent a lot of after dark hours in my youth, pissing off the neighbors! I've even lived next door to one couple that would bring over a request playlists! I read the requests others write and don't really understand where they're headed! One guy said he bought the Heresy's and is disappointed because he's still 55, (I'm over 60!). Another says that how the Heresy sounds is directly related to the electronics you hook up to them! Cripes, I always wondered what Captain Obvious did in his spare time! I'm gonna review the Heresy IV's by saying if you have an audio setup you enjoy with other speakers, the Heresy IV won't disappoint! My listening room is medium to small and had a knockdown texture on walls, smooth ceiling and short carpet. No fancy electronics or magic is required to get great sound just secure connections and proper adjustments and it's time to start wondering again what the neighbors like to listen to! So as long as you aren't buying them to time travel or to reinvent the audio system wheel, the Heresy IV's might be for you! It's like motorcycles, it's best to test drive one before you buy it but folks are often uneasy about lettin you test drive their motorcycles! So if you live somewhere you can test drive a set of Heresy's go get it done! Then go home and order them from Crutchfield for the best service
Pros: Sound great, great sound at high volume levels, Don't have to hunt for the soundstage!
Cons: None so far

Open Revelation

I have a 5.2.4 Atmos System with all Klipsch RP Speakers and two Power Source 6000Def. Tech Subwoofers, Denon AVR 3700-9 channel receiver, and two BasX Emotiva Amps. (2& 7 channels). I been researching the Klipsch Heresy IV & finally purchased them in walnut. My goodness what a difference in soundstage. Wide open sound, super detailed, I hear breathing between notes and other details I have never heard. It's really fun closing my eyes and pointing to where I perceive the musicians are. From rock, acoustic, and jazz these speakers sing, they don't hold back. They also sound amazing at lower volumes. Now if you have a bad recording, they are absolutely unforgiving and will sound atrocious. I have a blue sound music streamer and I find myself enjoying the Heresy's in the 2.2 mode with subwoofers. I am not able to make them clip, but I also want to preserve my hearing. The finish on these is gorgeous and grills are retro cool. They do need a bit of "break-in" and have warmed up a bit after a few weeks, although I don't consider them "bright," due to the upgraded crossover. The class AB design of the Emotiva BassX 2 Channel amp is a great fit with these speakers. If you are considering the Heresy's, Pull the trigger, You won't regret it!
Pros: Open sound stage Very revealing Efficient
Cons: Need stands for taller soundstage

Wonderful! (but highly dependant on electronics)
Travis from Orwell, VT on 11/30/2021
I adore these speakers. They are an upgrade from my previous two sets of speakers, PSB X2Ts and Totem The One. Night and day difference, but it's worth mentioning my experience with electronics, because I think these speakers depend HIGHLY on what you pair them with. I first swapped them for the PSBs, which were powered by an old Peachtree Nova integrated amp. I'd always considered the PSBs perfectly "meh" speakers. Good, but certainly not magical; best with heavy bass music. I immediately noticed a massive improvement to PARTS of the music. Instruments, such as horns and guitars, were incredible. Bass was ok. Voices, however, were thin, harsh and rather sibilant. Kind of the same with the PSBs, but this weakness stood out more with the Heresy IVs. But I remembered reading a while back that the Peachtree amp wasn't the greatest (I've since become a skeptic of Class D amps). So I spent money I didn't have and bought a Schiit Aegir Class A amp. Spectacular! Voices were now smooth and fleshed out. I also could finally discern the effect the Peachtree tube circuit had on the music, which was noticeably more magical with it engaged. Higher notes in particular hit with a smooth jolt. I love it. Even switching to a different tube had a noticeable effect. All of this is to say, little changes that had no effect on my PSBs had a huge effect on my Heresy IVs. If I didn't have a tube preamp, or if I'd stuck with Class D, I'd not be as thrilled. But with my current setup, A+!!
Pros: Wonderful midrange and highs Acoustic Instruments are magical Easy to listen to for hours with right components
Cons: Bass is solid, but not great. Very large for their sound. Requires lots of space for proper placement. Might not pair well with cheaper, class D amps.

Magical
John from Winston Salem, NC on 11/15/2021
I have had these speakers for about a month. I chose these because I thought they would fit my particular requirements. I have a entertainment room that only allows placement of the entertainment center in the corner of the room. This room is used for visual entertainment as well, so a low profile floor standing speaker is a must! The Heresy IV fits the bill! Now placement is critical. You need 8' or more between speakers and about 2' from the wall. If you meet these needs the result is magical. This set up is my favorite of the four 2 channel set ups I have. The sound is like that of a small intimate live venue. I highly recommend these for the audiophile who will take the time to set them up properly.
Pros: Great speaker!!
Cons: Placement is critical

Profoundly Disappointing Speakers.
John from Tampa, FL on 11/5/2021
These speakers are the equivalent of buying a VIP package to a classic rock band that has two original members. Somehow, through the belief that if you spend enough $ you'll be able to recreate the magic of youth, you convince yourself that you're still cool at 55. Seriously, like most contemporary speakers these do the highs and lows well enough, but there's nothing remarkable about either. The bass is pretty cool and natural at times, and the treble isn't nearly as bright as most folks claim. It's the bloody midrange that's fatiguing. Electric guitar-based music turns the soundstage into an abrasive stream of compromised & compacted sound. Absolutely no dynamics. If you add multiple vocalists to the mix, just forget it. The experience is like hearing someone hold a microphone to a boom box so their favorite song plays on a PA in a high school gym. I know what you're thinking-but, but, but they complement my mid-century modern living room, and so-and-so says. Do yourself a favor and ignore the marketing hype. Remember what your mom told you about things that seem too good to be true?
Pros: They look really cool.
Cons: Absurdly expensive for a polarizing sound.

Played at low or high volume the sound is incredible. Excellent bass response. One of the reason I upgraded from my Klipsch Premiere bookshelves was the lack of bass they provided. Excellent true audiophile quality speakers.
Pros: Sound reproduction, quality, looks
Cons: None

No Regrets
James from Haverhill, MA on 8/21/2021
I first heard these in the 80's, when they were Heresy II's, and always wanted them. With being at the home office so much lately that I finally bought a pair. Love them! I have an Onkyo driving them with a home built tube preamp to help out the crappie products. I did have to turn down my powered sub with them. I wish I had bought them 30 years ago. Do not regret the purchase at all!
Pros: Great sound with out needing lots of power.
Cons: Waited to long to buy a set!

Klipsch Heritage Heresy IV

This is my opinion after one week with these speakers. After 60 hours of playing records I am more than impressed with these speakers. Prior to purchasing I read and watch many reviews and have concluded Klipsch Heresy IV are the Marmite of the speaker world. You either hate them or you love them, there is no in between. I find it most proper to start my day with a cup of tea and toast with ample application of marmite. So I decided to take a chance with these speakers. Now if you are expecting a graph showing instrument readings, I'm not your man, want a diagram of soundstage, I can't help you, want explanations in engineering terms, It ain't happening. I evaluated these speakers in the most unsophisticated and crudest of means. I set them up and played records at different volumes and formulated my opinion. And I'm of the opinion these speakers are absolutely brilliant in design, construction, and sound. Now I did not set out to create an expensive system, it's basically a budget system that preforms flawlessly to my ears. Technics 1500 turntable Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Cambridge AXR 85 receiver and the Hersey speakers. Albums I listed to that just stunned me. Bob Seger- Live Bullet. I felt as if I was in the arena on the floor 10 rows from the stage. Patsy Cline-Showcase, I felt as if I were listing to the final mix in the studio. Etta James-Tell Mama, jaw dropping as if I were sent back in time to Muscle Shoals and was present in the studio. Brilliant spea
