Huge sweet spot, expansive soundstage, beautiful vocals

So, this review starts with 5 stars and ends with me returning the Opticon 2 Mk2 for a different pair of DALI speakers. I have owned a pair speakers for 30+ years that were hand-made by an electrical engineer who owned a high end stereo store. Over the years I have tried numerous speakers in my home (Acoustat 2+2, KEF LS50, Polk R700, Martin Logan ESL) , but I couldn't find anything I liked better than what I had. After talking to Paul at Crutchfield about my impressions of the other speakers he suggested I try the DALI Opticons and the moment played them I was blown away at the expansive soundstage they project and how generous the listening sweet spot was. With the speakers pointing straight ahead, as recommended by DALI, I can sit in either chair in my listening room and hear both channels equally...amazing! They are detailed without being fatiguing and I preferred their vocal presentation over every other speaker I have tried. My only nit-pick was I preferred the big dynamics of my old speakers over the Opticons. No problem Paul suggested the DALI Oberon 9 so I don't give up the great qualities of the Opticons, and gain a dedicated midrange and a pair of woofers plus the Oberons are more efficient. The Opticons are on their way back to Crutchfield and I'm eager to receive the Oberon 9s. Crutchfield ROCKS!
Pros: Huge sweet spot, expansive soundstage, beautiful vocals, smooth sounding and engaging.
Cons: Not the most efficient speakers and I discovered I prefer a speaker with more dynamics than a modest size bookshelf speaker can produce.

I will keep it as factual as possible. in my search for speakers i often thought, please just share facts and not all other things that have nothing to do with the speakers. - amplifier: yamaha as1100, wiim ultra streamer, smsl su 1 dac - environment: household living room, open plan 16m2, panels and thin carpet (not perfect room) -previous speaker; dali oberon 5, which i loved a lot but the bass was too overwhelming in my narrow room. treble: clear, but not sharp. ive had the mk1 version and i sold those for the sharp treble. bass: i was looking for a clear speaker, where the bass doesnt overflow the rest. i got that with these. i will buy a subwoofer to round out the bottom frequencies but its better to add the bass then to have a speaker that has too much to begin with. midrange: first thing i noticed was the issue i had with the oberons was gone. I was always trying to EQ those to get a better midrange. as soon as i turned the volume up on the oberons the bass became too much and booming due to room re
Pros: - clear vocals, great midrange - treble sharp, but not too sharp - amazing finish, feels like real wood. - knock test, pass !
Cons: if you like the big booming bass, these are not it. i think bass often is used to hide flaws. these dont need that.

I've been in this crazy hobby for 60+ years. Bought my first Crutchfield product 50 years ago. These are best value in the DALI speaker lineup. This is my second and last pair of DALI speakers. I am keeping these for life and will enjoy the music again . My listening room sounds like a small jazz club now! BTY, my wife who is a classically trained and jazz pianist loves them too.
Pros: disappear in the room accurate sound
Cons: none zero zilch

Excellent bookshelf speakers
Ray from Goose Creek, SC on 12/5/2021
I needed a smaller size bookshelf speaker for use in my master bedroom. I originally wanted Dynaudio Evoke 10 speakers which are similarly priced. Inventory was hard to find on all small bookshelf speakers when I was looking. The only Evoke 10 speakers in stock where Blonde. Through research I found that Dynaudio was changing their speakers. I read good things about Dali. I purchased the Dali Opticon 2 MK2 and couldn't be happier. The fit and finish is excellent. The sound is exactly what I was looking (listening) for. I purchased open box, both speakers were brand new. It looked like one was opened, the white bag inside the box was taped. The other speaker looked like it was never opened. I paired the speakers with a Rotel A14 amp which has 80 watts per Channel.
Pros: Fit and finish, size, soft dome tweeter
Cons: None
