A hopeful, then positive purchase
Timothy from Kalamazoo, MI on 3/15/2025
Buying any component without hearing it first can be regretful. But I was forced to do that with the SourcePoint 888 since I didn't have a local dealer. Still, I felt confident for three reasons. First was the overall positive reputation for Andrew Jones designs and I'd heard other models. Second, I was familiar with the concentric driver approach from hearing Tannoy speakers. Third, Crutchfield's 60 trial gave assurance for satisfaction. I was not disappointed, they are a great speaker. I'm pleased by their musical performance as well as the contemporary look of the white cabinets. That even brought complements from a couple of visitors.
Pros: Overall musical presentation Revealing character Balanced sonics Great appearance, particularly for a large speaker
Cons: Not easy for one person to unbox Due to weight not easy to move around, which can also be an advantage

Best in class!
Christopher from Virginia on 2/10/2025
The best sounding speaker I have ever owned! I'm no audiophile, previous system was an Onkyo 6100 with 3.1 surround on Polk E60's (with SVS 3000 Sub). It sounded fine for HT use, but the E60's boosted aluminum tweeter ruined music listening and was impossible to EQ without affecting the overall sound. First upgrade was the Yamaha RN2000, which made a minor difference to the E60's ( and for HT use, I didn't miss the center channel at all). When I had the funds for speaker replacement the final contenders were KEF R11 versus MoFi 888. I settled on the 888's after diving down the YouTube rabbit hole for a few months. While there are plenty of reviewers who simply use adjectives to describe speakers, thank goodness for the real deal... Erin's Audio Corner. He gives objective and subjective reviews using real data! Even if he hasn't tested your specific model speaker, he has probably at least tested different models of the same the brand. It's enough information to infer what a speaker brand might sound like. He is the BEST!!! My 'adjective' for the MoFi 888 is MUSICAL. Slight warmth, while still being very dynamic. Very wide dispersion, fills the whole room (600 sqft) with amazing sound. I now love the point source concept. They provide full range sound and have massive bass potential. Do you need a sub? No. Do you want a sub? Yes.Using YPAO, I'm suppling the 888's full range and crossing the sub at 40 Hz (these 888 dig down). The 888's have brought music back into my life.
Pros: Full range capability. They don't really need a sub, but why not, if you can. Wide dispersion, you don't have sit in the sweet spot. All music sounds good, slight warmth and very dynamic. Linear and respond very well to EQ. These are musical speakers, not for critical listeners who want to hear recording flaws, they just make all music sound good. Great soundstage for 2.1 HT use. Thank you Erin's Audio Corner!!! He is correct, the 888's are truly the best bang for the buck!
Cons: These need juice and a lion tamer! Part of the reason I love these speakers is because of the capability of the Yamaha RN2000 that is driving them. I listen without YPAO 20% of the time, and without correction these 888 are wild lions, BEASTS roaring out sound. With YPAO, they're trained circus lions, purring out majestic and refined music. YPAO also dials in the soundstage for HT use, I'd swear the sound is coming from the TV even though these speakers are 9 feet apart.

Wonderful speakers -- the best I've heard
Charles from Charlottesville, Virginia on 10/23/2024
I'm a bassist so the bass line in a song has always been important to me. These speakers not only reproduce the bass line flawlessly, but they also make the tone of the bass amazingly clear. Best of all, they get down to that last 1/3 of an octave that most floorstanding speakers miss. Many times, a speaker that excels at bass response suffers a little when it comes to the rest of the music. Not so with the 888s. They are perfectly balanced, with plenty of detail but never harsh. I understand lyrics clearly now that I've always struggled to hear and I hear subtleties in guitar and keyboard parts that are new to me. I've had maybe 25 or 30 different speakers in my listening area, and these are the best I've heard. It's like the sound I've always heard in my head is now reality. Highly, highly, highly recommended.
Pros: Strong and punchy bass response, unlike anything I've ever heard. They set up a beautiful open stage and they really bring out the natural sound of the instruments, electric or acoustic.
Cons: None. As close to perfect as I've ever heard.

Fantastic speaker!

Prior to my purchase of the Mofi 888s I had run KEF LS50 metas and then KEF R3 metas both paired with 2 SVS SB3000 subs. The R3s were a step in the right direction but I just wasn't satisfied. I wanted more; more clarity when pushed a bit, a deeper and wider soundstage....just "better." I decided to try a floorstander this time, the question was which one. The bigger KEFs were a thought, and then I read about the 888s that were coming soon. After some glowing reviews (and knowing the good rep of the SP8s and SP10s) I went for it. My system is the Mofi 888s of course, 2 SVS SB3000s (crossed over super low and honestly really optional) Schiit Tyr monoblocks, Topping Pre90 preamp, SMSL SU-10 DAC and Bluesound streamer. I am super happy with my system now, and can for once say I am satisfied! Everything about these speakers surpasses my expectations. They not only "sound better" than my KEFs at normal volumes, when cranked up they do not lose their clarity and composure. At this price point and for my budget these are end game speakers. Love them. Period.

Could Be A Perfect Speaker; Is, an amazing Bargain.
Jahatl from Atlanta, GA on 7/12/2024
Have had the speakers for 3 days now; 14 hours playing on and off using Pass Labs XA100.5 (a wonderful pairing) and Audio Group Denmark's Axxess Forte' 3 (also an excellent amp; class D with a ton of reserve; really controls these speakers). Overall tone is exactly what I like. I've had Tannoy Kensington GR's, Devore Super 9's, Wilson Sophia 2, Borresen X3 and Harbeth 40.2 & C7es3 40th Anniversary speakers. The 888's are extremely cohesive from top to bottom. The Reviews do not lie. The build quality very high. The satin finish on walnut just looks and feels like a much more expensive speaker. In my setting they play well at low and high volumes. These are not a one trick pony, meaning this speaker does everything well. I find them easy to place. I can not wait to get my tube amp out and hear the 888's with tubes. The all Class A Pass Monoblocks are a brilliant match. Bass,. I am not a bass hound, but the bass is controlled and truly amazing; again cohesive as a whole sound and not too much of one thing or the other. I can not imagine loving these speakers or not owning them, and yes they play loud if you need them to with out faltering. Music Preferences: Jazz/Jazz Vocals; 70's Rock such as Jackson Brown or Jason Isabell or Andrew Bird. With only 14 hours, they are not broken in and I suspect things will get better. I have not owned them long enough to provide details, just surface and initial impressions.
Pros: Exceptional Looks, build quality, Sound is cohesive and natural. Not fussy to place; easy to drive
Cons: None So Far
