Features

Two-Way Bookshelf Loudspeaker: The S 801 bookshelf speaker features a 1" soft-dome tweeter for smooth, refined high frequencies, and a 4" aluminized polyfiber woofer for balanced, musical low end. The integrated WaveGuide focuses the high frequency sound for dynamic, true-to-life reproduction, while the rear-firing slot port allows for better low frequency extension.

Compact Enclosure w/ Wood Accents: The S 801 is specifically designed and engineered to provide exceptional output and balanced, full sound in almost any application despite it's small cabinet size. Wood accents give the speaker cabinet a handcrafted, natural look.

Magnetic Grille: The S 801 comes with fully magnetic grilles (no mounting holes or push pins) for a clean, minimalistic front-baffle design, while the large woven linen grille cloth features a heavy texture which finishes off the loudspeaker's modern look.

Binding Post Terminals: Each bookshelf loudspeaker is equipped with a set of binding-post speaker terminals. These binding-post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (single only).

Applications: The Jamo Studio 8 Series S 801 bookshelf loudspeakers can be used for the front or rear channels in a home theater system, or standing alone in a strictly two-channel stereo system.

  • Placement Options: As front channels in a home theater setup or as a 2ch speaker system, the S 801 should be positioned so the loudspeakers create an equidistant triangle between the speakers and your main listening position. They should be positioned no less than 6' apart and at ear level in your seated listening position. As rear speakers in a home theater setup, the speakers should be positioned directly to the left and right of your main listening position, or just behind the main listening position at a 20° angle, plus placed approximately 6' above the floor (measuring from the top of the cabinet).
  • Mounting Options: The compact cabinet of the S 801 allows for extremely versatile mounting options on a table-top, shelf, or stand. Four integrated rubber feet provide a non-slip surface. The bookshelf loudspeakers also feature key-hole slots to wall-mount the speakers.

Jamo Studio 8 Series: The new Jamo Studio 8 series of loudspeakers has been engineered and designed to complement and seamlessly blend in today's modern environments and fashionable living spaces. Contemporary material and finish choices accentuate the clean, minimalist lines of this European design, while the compact cabinet architecture is an ideal solution for today's urban living environments.

Note: The Jamo Studio 8 series consists of Floorstanding loudspeakers (S805/S807/S809), bookshelf loudspeakers (S801/S803), center channel speakers (S81C/S83C), Dolby Atmos elevation speaker (S8ATM), and powered subwoofer (S808SW/S810SW).

Q
Would 50 watt receiver be enough to power these?
eric  Feb 19, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Eric. Thank you for your question. They are actually only rated for 60 watts, so 50 would be ideal.

Q
Are these speakers good for mid range frequencies?
isaac  Jan 30, 2021
1 answer
A
Yes, I would say that it is a balanced speaker that reproduces great all around sound, midrange, highs, and bass. You will not be disappointed!

Q
Would these work for an audio technica turntable?

A
Yes. I don't see why they wouldn't. But I have not tried them with a tyrntable Gary
gary m.  Nov 22, 2019
A
Yes those would sound nice with vinyl. They are passive speakers though so you would need a receiver (with a phono input) to power them.

Q
Do these speakers work wireless with Sony STR-DN1080?
genefeldt  Oct 26, 2018
1 answer
A
No. These are conventional passive bookshelf speakers so, they will need to be connected to a receiver/amplifier with speaker wire. Q
Can these speakers be used for a record player?
courtney  May 02, 2021
3 answers
A
Yes as long as they are hooked to an amplifier.
christopher  May 06, 2021
A
These are passive speakers. You will need an amplifier connected to your record player to drive these if your record player does not have a built in amplifier.
bharat  May 02, 2021
A
I have mine connected via bluetooth, if the player is vintage I am not sure if the cords connect? I would assume so!

Are these powered?
samuel  Dec 17, 2020

A
No they are not. AS you may imagine you have two options. Traditional amplifier power. Or, if you have a wifi transmitter for your channels, consider a small wifi receiver/amp you can place where you wish to have your speaker. JD
john a  Dec 17, 2020
A
They are not. There is a powered version available.
bharat  Dec 17, 2020
A
No. You need to wire up to a amp or receiver.

Q
How do I connect these to a preamp with RCA plugs?
michael  Oct 30, 2020
2 answers
A
Another option, if you have wifi transmission from your primary amplifier, would be a pair of Amphony wifi receiver/amplifiers. Allows you to place the S801's where you need them (provided there is power) and amplify the received signal for each speaker to achieve the sound you desire in that location.
john a  Feb 15, 2021
A
These speakers are passive and require a amplifier wit at least 60W output per spec. I doubt your pre-amp can drive them directly. There are a a number of Class D amplifiers with RCA inputs that output 60W that you can buy on Amazon for under $100. Then you can connect the speaker terminals to the output terminals of the amplifier with plain old 2-conductor speaker wire. If you absolutely must connect to your pre-amp, the easiest way is to buy a RCA/RCA cable and clip off the RCA connectors on one end. Then you can expose the copper wires on the clipped side and insert into the speaker terminals directly or use banana plugs and insert into speaker terminals! Good Luck!

Q
Can I connect two of them to digital piano Yamaha P125?
artikm  Jul 31, 2020
2 answers
A
These are passive speakers. You will a small amp to drive them to produce any volume. Check the YAMAHA user manual to see if it can drive passive speakers.
bharat  Aug 01, 2020
A
If your digital piano has an internal amp with speaker outputs yes.

Q
What connectors come in the box?
erin  Jul 16, 2020

If you mean connectors to be attached to the speaker wires, it does not bring anything. The speaker connection is binding post to connect bare end or banana plug. I hope this will help you. Enjoy it...
victor  Jul 17, 2020
A
Nothing. You have to buy your own connectors.
marvin  Jul 16, 2020
A
None, they have standard combo banana plug/binding posts
robert  Jul 16, 2020
A
Only the dual-option connectors built into the back (for wire or plug) as seen in the close-up pics at the Crutchfield website.

Q
I have a vintage Panasonic SE 2600 combo unit that I just got repaired, I'd like to get new speakers for it. Would these work (are they passive)? Also would I need some sort of adaptor to connect them? I've been using the original Panasonic Thrusters (SB -250 40HZ, 20 watts)
valerie  May 14, 2023
1 answer
A
These are passive speakers and should work nicely with the SE 2600. It should not be necessary to use any adapter as these speakers will accept bare speaker wire as well as several other types of connectors thanks to their 5-way binding posts.

Q
Looking to maybe add these to my vintage stereo setup. Current speakers have a 16" woofer and they are not extremely "sharp" sounding (Technics Speakers Model SB-2680 (1986). Thinking of adding a pair of these on the "B" channel and stacking them on top of the Technics to add more mid / high end sound. Any opinions?
michael  Jul 18, 2022
3 answers
A
Just my opinion for what it's worth... adding the Jamo S 801's to your "B" channel and stacking them on your other speakers, should accomplish your goal of increasing the mids & highs. I remember those Technics 3-way floor standing speakers (with the 15inch woofer) back in the 80's. How's the condition of your foam surrounds around the woofers? I don't know the specs of those particular speakers (outside of handling 200 watts). And I do not know what you are using to power those speakers. So be careful with the amount of wattage you are pumping into the Jamos (in conjunction with using your Technics)..
richard  Jul 19, 2022
A
These would serve the purpose you seek. However, I'd recommend a set of Sony SS-CS5's over these if you can get them on sale.
ian  Jul 19, 2022
A
These are a great 'B' speaker option. I use them like that and position them on top of shelves directly above my main towers .

Q
What solutions would be available to mount this speaker on the ceiling? Thanks.
jeffrey  Mar 07, 2022
2 answers
A
Aftermarket ceiling mount. Probably some sort of hanging device. But you will be screwing/attaching to the speaker cabinet
scott  Mar 08, 2022
A
there is a mounting bracket on the back. this allows wall mount right near the ceiling. actual flush mount ON the ceiling would be more trouble than buying "in ceiling" speakers. you'd have to fashion a large dbl L-bracket, drill holes, drive large screws...it's possible! you could set them on top of a shelf, near the ceiling instead. mine are sitting on a shelf without any books. ; ) hope this helps. rock'n'roll Steve

Q
I have an old receiver that I need new speakers for. This vintage receiver is 1980s with minimal output. I keep reading these speakers need 60 watts. Should I get these or something even "cheaper?"

Have powered these speaker with late 80s Pioneer receiver which puts out 2 x 20W. No complaints, good sound but no miracles.
frederik  Oct 24, 2021

You will notice Crutchfield has 6 headers (overview, reviews, details, accessories, Q&A, articles) below their Jamo S 801 description. Click on details. This will pull up the features and specs of this speaker. Scroll down and you will see power range (which states up to 60 watts). I use these speakers on an old vintage 1990's receiver that is rated 20 watts per channel. The Jamo S 801 bookshelf speakers work great (both with volume and sound quality) in combination with this receiver. They are solid, well built speakers. More importantly, they sound good for being an inexpensive speaker. Bottom line: these speakers do not need 60 watts. I'm pretty sure 60 watts is their maximum, and personally, I would not want to chance pumping 60 watts into them.
richard  Oct 22, 2021
A
Kyle. I'm powering these Jamo S 801s with an 80W RMS per chan amp. With volume knob 1/3 at probably 25W they sounds fine. If you have 12 - 20W RMS, you'll hear them, and get good overall clarity. Mine are used in a finished attic for radio and dvd sound. Some complain about not enough bass, but I'm very pleased. While not for '1812 Overture', these are good for general listening pleasure. Of course I cranked them up to see how loud, just not all the way up. ; ) If they aren't loud enough ( for you ), Crutchfield will take them back for something else. They're really nice about it, but save the boxes and packing. It's likely you'll keep this pair for a long time.
stephen  Oct 22, 2021
A
They should work fine.
ronald  Oct 21, 2021
A
I believe these speakers will be fine in a near field or small room with low wattage. However, if the receiver is from a "theater in a box" I would call crutchfield (or look at the back of the receiver for ohm load information). If it was a standalone receiver I'd bet it's powerful enough to make these speakers sing.
joshua  Oct 21, 2021
A
Kyle these will definitely work with your vintage receiver. I had these hooked up to a small chinese 20w lepai amp and they performed very well. Now on my onkyo receiver in found them needing more on the bass but I have a sub for that... These are great little speakers and sound fantastic.
