Product Research

Two-Way Bookshelf Loudspeaker: The S 803 bookshelf speaker features a 1" soft-dome tweeter for smooth, refined high frequencies, and a 5" aluminized polyfiber woofer for balanced, musical low end. The integrated WaveGuide focuses the high frequency sound for dynamic, true-to-life reproduction, while the front-firing slot port allows for better low frequency extension and more flexible placement options.

Compact Enclosure w/ Wood Accents: The S 803 is specifically designed and engineered to provide exceptional output and balanced, full sound in almost any application despite it's small cabinet size. Wood accents give the speaker cabinet a handcrafted, natural look.

Magnetic Grille: The S 803 comes with fully magnetic grilles (no mounting holes or push pins) for a clean, minimalistic front-baffle design, while the large woven linen grille cloth features a heavy texture which finishes off the loudspeaker's modern look.

Binding Post Terminals: Each bookshelf loudspeaker is equipped with two sets of binding-post speaker terminals - one set for the S 803's tweeter & woofer, and the other set for when using the optional Dolby Atmos Elevation speakers from Jamo (sold separately). The terminals labeled "Main" will connect to your receiver's Front or Rear channel speaker outputs (depending on how you are using the bookshelf speakers). The terminal's labeled "Height" will connect to receiver's Height/Dolby Atmos channel speaker outputs (make sure you have your receiver's amplifier configured for Dolby Atmos). These binding-post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (single only).

Applications: The Jamo Studio 8 Series S 803 bookshelf loudspeakers can be used for the front or rear channels in a home theater system, or standing alone in a strictly two-channel stereo system.

  • Placement Options: As front channels in a home theater setup or as a 2ch speaker system, the S 803 should be positioned so the loudspeakers create an equidistant triangle between the speakers and your main listening position. They should be positioned no less than 6' apart and at ear level in your seated listening position. As rear speakers in a home theater setup, the speakers should be positioned directly to the left and right of your main listening position, or just behind the main listening position at a 20° angle, plus placed approximately 6' above the floor (measuring from the top of the cabinet).
  • Mounting Options: The compact cabinet and front-firing port of the S 803 allows for extremely versatile mounting options on a table-top, shelf, or stand. Four integrated rubber feet provide a non-slip surface. The bookshelf loudspeakers also feature key-hole slots to wall-mount the speakers.

Optional Dolby Atmos Elevation Speakers: Elegant metal fasteners atop the cabinet provide a chic, modern industrial look, but also serve as a connection point for Jamo's S 8 ATM Dolby Atmos elevation speakers (sold separately). This patent-pending design allows for all of the wire connections on the back of the loudspeaker, avoiding unsightly and messy speaker wire going all the way up to the Atmos module - for cinematic, completely immersive Dolby Atmos sound while preserving the beautiful aesthetic of the Jamo Studio 8 Series.

Jamo Studio 8 Series: The new Jamo Studio 8 series of loudspeakers has been engineered and designed to complement and seamlessly blend in today's modern environments and fashionable living spaces. Contemporary material and finish choices accentuate the clean, minimalist lines of this European design, while the compact cabinet architecture is an ideal solution for today's urban living environments.

Note: The Jamo Studio 8 series consists of Floorstanding loudspeakers (S805/S807/S809), bookshelf loudspeakers (S801/S803), center channel speakers (S81C/S83C), Dolby Atmos elevation speaker (S8ATM), and powered subwoofer (S808SW/S810SW).

You cannot use banana plugs with these speakers, correct?
benjamin  Apr 15, 2022
4 answers
you can!!
jeffrey  Apr 15, 2022
They do accept banana plugs which is what I use with them.
joel  Apr 15, 2022
You can use banana clips, I did
greg  Apr 15, 2022
Thats not correct. I use banana plugs.
roger  Apr 15, 2022
Can you bi-amp these speakers?
marius daniel  Apr 04, 2022
1 answer
No. They have single wire hook ups. 1 Positive, 1 negative. Speakers that can be bi-amped will have 4 binding post, 2 positive, 2 negative. The best thing that you can do to improve the performance of these speakers is to get a powered sub woofer to handle the lower frequencies.

How many WPC are recommended for these?
christopher  Dec 14, 2018

Based on what I am pushing them with, I would think that anything from 50 to 80 watts will do them justice.
mark  Dec 14, 2018
I don't sure there's an official recommendation. They like power, so I wouldn't run them without at least 80w at a reasonable THD since they can deliver impressive clarity for its tuning.
francisco  Dec 14, 2018
The speaker says that 80 watts per channel are recommended, I'm running on a 75WPC receiver and I feel like they could use a little more punch. I looking to upgrade to an amp or integrated amp because I feel these produce better sound a lower listing levels. I'm am however just guessing because I have only had them hooked up to the receiver so far.
patricia  Dec 14, 2018
Probably going to want an amp 40 wpc minimum, if you want to play them really loud then you might want to get an amp with 60 or 80 wpc since the 40 watt will probably start to distort if you max it out. I typically listen at 1/3 volume on an 80 wpc amp (2.1 setup).

Would being horizontal be overly detrimental to the stereo sound?
mark  Mar 01, 2021
1 answer
It depends on what you intend to use the speakers for. If they are going to be used for surrounds or background music then no it doesn't matter too much if they are mounted horizontally. If however you are using these as your primary speakers (front left and right), then you should absolutely operate them vertically. Don't forget you wouldn't be able to add the Dolby Atmos top speaker if you mounted them horizontally either.

Is the Bottom Wood "trim" removable with screws? I'm looking for a certain aesthetic and would like to remove that trim.
corey  Dec 01, 2020

I think so, there are black rubber feet, i did not peel it but when i put a neodymium magnet it sticks to the rubber feet covering something metal, screws possibly. The neodymium magnet does not stick to another place in the wood trim so I think there are screws under the rubber feet in the bottom trim.
palaniappan  Dec 01, 2020
It is wood look alike trim and it is not removable...
ruben  Dec 01, 2020
It doesn't look like it.

Will the front facing speaker work for a normal left & right?
lynn  Feb 27, 2020

The question is not completely clear to me because all the speakers are front facing. Although this model was purchased for rear surrounds, they would also be fine for speakers since they are pretty full range.
david  Feb 28, 2020
Yes you do not need to use the atmos module with them. They function perfectly well as just stereo left and rights
dustin  Feb 27, 2020
Yes. They're perfect for a stereo setup.
benedict  Feb 27, 2020
I have two pair of the Jamo S-803's. Both are connected to two different Yamaha R-N303 receivers. One room the speakers are on the floor about six feet apart. The other setup the speakers are on the the same bookshelf as the receiver, about four feet apart. I am not happy with sound quality. I keep hearing distortion when playing vinyl and via Bluetooth. I am wondering if I am using them properly and/or have them positioned correctly and have the bass/treble set optimally?

Which budget amplifier would go with these speakers?
rajesh  Apr 08, 2022
1 answer
I currently use Denon's x8500h AVR for my 2 sets, however, in the past I have used the Parasound Zone Master 2350 and the Parasound Zone Master 2 to power them. Both amplifiers are available at Crutchfield and under $1500.00. The sound from Jamo's S801 and S803 is very clear, crisp and warm. Very natural in the way they interact with the amplifiers producing a very good soundstage with clarity. Another very good amplifier under $1500.00 that provides the same experience is the Audiolab 6000a Integrated Amplifier.
