Features

Powered Subwoofer: Equipped with an 8" polyfiber woofer and a 50W (RMS)/100W (Peak) class D amplifier, the Jamo Studio 8 Series S 808 SUB delivers dynamic, powerful bass in any listening environment, from full cinema surround systems to critical two-channel listening.

Bottom Mounted Amplifier: The high powered class D amplifier and input panel is mounted on the bottom of the subwoofer cabinet, making for a clean, unobtrusive look in any orientation. A 90-degree AC power cord and 90-degree mono-RCA cable are included for exceptional space management.

Note: The included rubber feet are required to provide enough space to route the AC power and mono-RCA cable to the bottom-mounted AC input and Line-Level/LFE Input.

Ultra-Slim Enclosure with Down-Firing Slot Port: The S 808 SUB is specifically designed and engineered with a down-firing slot port to provide exceptional output and deep, accurate bass in almost any application despite it's ultra-slim cabinet.

Wood Accents & Woven Cloth Grille: Wood accents give the subwoofer cabinet a handcrafted, natural look. The Jamo S 808 SUB comes with a large woven linen cloth grille with heavy texture which finishes off the powered subwoofer's modern look.

Bottom Mounted Controls: The level control, low pass crossover, and phase control allow you to blend the powered subwoofer's low-frequency tones with your system's other speakers, as well as establish the ideal level of bass. These controls are found on the bottom of the powered sub.

  • Level Control: The level control adjusts the subwoofer's volume relative to the rest of your home audio system. After the sub's level control has been set, the volume control of your AV receiver will be the volume control for both the Jamo powered subwoofer and your connected loudspeakers.
  • Low Pass Crossover: The variable low pass crossover is adjustable from 40-120Hz. The crossover point chosen determines where low bass frequencies are "handed-off" from your AV system's loudspeakers to the Jamo powered subwoofer. Set the crossover point based on the size of your systems' main left/right speakers. If your AV receiver has an LFE output and built-in bass management, then set the S 808 SUB's built-in crossover to "LFE", which bypasses the powered sub's crossover.
  • Phase Control: This control is used to acoustically match the powered subwoofer's output to your main speakers. Select the position either 0˚ or 180˚ in which the powered sub has more output at the main listening position.

Bottom Mounted Mono-RCA/LFE Input: There is a bottom mounted mono-RCA input that can be used for a line-level or LFE signal. If you are using an AV Receiver with an LFE output, along with built-in bass management and subwoofer control, then set the S 808 SUB's built-in low pass crossover to "LFE", which bypasses the subwoofer's low pass crossover. If your AV receiver only has a line-level output, then you will need to adjust the S 808 SUB's built-in low pass crossover from 40-120Hz, based on the size of your front loudspeakers (a mono-to-stereo RCA adapter maybe required in this scenario).

Note: Because the S 808 SUB's Mono-RCA/LFE input is located on the bottom of the powered sub, a right-angle RCA adapter may be required (sold separately).

Auto Power On/Off: The Jamo powered subwoofer will automatically turn On when it senses an audio signal. It will automatically go into "Standby mode" after 15-20 minutes with no audio signal. You can also choose to turn the powered sub On or Off manually from the rear-switch on the back.

Mounting Options: The Jamo Studio 8 Series S 808 SUB utilizes an ultra-slim cabinet for exceptional placement flexibility and orientation flexibility - front firing against a wall or side firing next to a media console or cabinet. It can even be placed on its back and hidden underneath a sofa or chair, so the woofer is top firing. Four self-adhesive rubber feet are included to provide a non-slip surface and to isolate the powered subwoofer from the floor, as well as provide space for the AC power cord and subwoofer cable to plug into the bottom of the enclosure.

  • Side Firing Dimensions: 7.0" (w) x 18.0625" (h) x 14.0" (d)
  • Front Firing Dimensions: 14.0" (w) x 18.0625" (h) x 7.0" (d)
  • Top Firing Dimensions: 17.625" (w) x 7.5" (h) x 14.0" (d)
Note: For optimum performance, place your subwoofer in a corner of the room on the same wall as your front channel speakers. Please note that room placement can have a dramatic effect on the performance of your powered subwoofer. Corner placement, as suggested above, will increase the amount of bass output, while placing the subwoofer along the middle of a wall, or out in the room will decrease the amount of bass output.

Jamo Studio 8 Series: The new Jamo Studio 8 series of loudspeakers and powered subwoofers has been engineered and designed to complement and seamlessly blend in today's modern environments and fashionable living spaces. Contemporary material and finish choices accentuate the clean, minimalist lines of this European design, while the compact cabinet architecture is an ideal solution for today's urban living environments.

Note: The Jamo Studio 8 series consists of Floorstanding loudspeakers (S805/S807/S809), bookshelf loudspeakers (S801/S803), center channel speakers (S81C/S83C), Dolby Atmos elevation speaker (S8ATM), and powered subwoofer (S808SW/S810SW).

Q
If I want to hook this up to an older system without sub outputs, do I simply use a RCA converter/splitter to bare wire?
kstier13  Sep 29, 2023
1 answer
A
You cannot, Karl. You will need a speaker-level to line-level converter if you wish to use the Jamo S 808 subwoofer with a system that has no RCA subwoofer output. You could consider the Russound ADP-1.2 speaker-level to line-level adapter in the link below. This works with most receivers and can get the proper signal into the Jamo subwoofer https://www.crutchfield.com/p_543ADP12/Russound-ADP-1-2-Speaker-level-to-Line-level-Adapter.html

Q
Can I use the subwoofer with a sound bar?
david  Dec 07, 2022
1 answer
A
This Jamo S 808 can connect to soundbars that have an RCA subwoofer output, David. Bars like the JBL Bar 2.0 in the link below do not have any outputs and cannot connect. If you are looking to increase the bass and are using a bar with no outputs, you can replace your bar and add the sub at the same time with something like the JBL Bar 2.1 Deep Bass model in the link below that has the subwoofer included. I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_109BAR21DB/JBL-Bar-2-1-Deep-Bass.html

Q
Can I lay this unit on it's side, I know it has a down firing "Port", also can I wall mount this unit, what would be the separate and combined effect of either or both actions, has anyone tried either??
anthony  Jun 03, 2021

A
It would function on its side, although without the rubber feet to dampen the vibration, it would likely vibrate around a lot. It's not made to be mounted on a wall, but you could certainly do so - installing some sort of rubber mat or vibration dampener would be a must though, as it would rattle the wall pretty good in high bass situations.
grant  Jun 05, 2021
A
I don't see why you couldn't lay it on its side, if you can accept the looks of the controls and legs showing. To mount it it would need a shelf, I wouldn't start drilling holes in it to mount it on wall. Remember the key to a sub is its placement in the room which can be a spot and direction that makes no sense, but sounds right. S good sub placement is when you can't tell where the bass sounds are coming from.

I have mine on it's side in a shelf, and it sounds great! I have a photo, but I can't upload it here

Q
Is this subwoofer good for 2 channel music?
l. curtis  Nov 06, 2020
4 answers
A
I have mine paired with Audioengine HD3 speakers, and it's primarily for music listening. The short answer is it works really well. Don't expect a huge amount of bass from a subwoofer this size, but when paired with something small like the HD3 it definitely helps round out the sound nicely. I wouldn't pair this with a much bigger speaker that already reaches to lower frequencies. In my case, I didn't want anything bigger than the HD3's on my desk, and I only had a small space between the desk and the wall, so I went with the S 808 and it honestly worked out great!

I'm using the Jami sub in a 3.1 setup. The .1 being a separate channel for the subwoofer. I believe that's the minimum setup if you want to use a sub. The Jamo sub is excellent fir this use.
mikael  Nov 06, 2020
A
It isn't great for things with overwhelming bass and doesn't hit super low notes, but it does add some good bass to most varieties of music.

Q
Is the design of this subwoofer, meant to sit behind an entertainment center, with speaker facing out?
brian  Sep 02, 2020
6 answers
A
This is just a slim profile sub, designed for small spaces. If you put it behind your cabinet the sound will bounce off the back of the cabinet and wall, leaving you with a muddy sound if it even reaches you. If you are talking about putting it inside the cabinet that has an opening allowing the sound out then maybe it will work but will probably still sound muddy. If you need one for inside a cabinet JBL makes one for that purpose or used to anyway. Good luck
lisa  Sep 03, 2020
A
It could work that way, yes - although I beli be it's just designed for tight spaces. The speaker doesn't "throw" past the outside of the case, so if you can give it an inch, it's more than enough room. Its perfect for tight spaces and has good adjustability in the event that it causes any sort of unwanted vibrations to the entertainment center.
grant  Sep 02, 2020
A
sure, if that's what and where ya want it,you just need access to the sub-woofer
joseph  Sep 02, 2020
A
I had mine about even with the entertainment center in the corner of the room. The speaker faced out. It had just the right amount of low end for me without being overpowering.
robert  Sep 02, 2020
A
I actually have it in a cabinet behind the couch. You can turn the bass up and down, but where you face it is irrelevant in my view. It really just pumps out bass. I can make the whole house shake if I want to. ??

I have mine on the floor facing up under a shelf and there is maybe 1" clearance. Sounds great.

I have this subwoofer connected to the subwoofer pre-amp out on the receiver using a coaxial wire with RCA ends.
greg  Jan 18, 2022

The same as most subwoofers, with a standard RCA cable
peter  Jan 14, 2022
A
RCA cable to "subwoofer out" on the receiver.
paul  Jan 11, 2022
A
Rca input. My receiver has a coax output so I modified the coax line with an rca jack to connect into the woofer. Works great.
david  Jan 10, 2022
A
It requires a Bnc cable from the sub(woofer) connection on the receiver. This is a great little sub for movie effects as well as music. Best reward though is the WAF!
robert  Jan 10, 2022
A
Through a subwoofer connection cable. Your receiver will need a sub line out, or you'll need an appropriate adapter to run to the sub line input on the subwoofer.

Q
Hi, I bought the JUMO S808 Subwoofer and I have a Marantz PM6005 amplifier. What is the recommendation to connect them? Can I use the Audio Out (Recorder) RCA of the amplifier to the LFE input of the Sub?
alejandro leiva  Nov 21, 2022
1 answer
A
You can do that Alejandro, but it is not ideal because the recording out is not controlled by the volume knob but 100 percent output, all the time. This would be OK using the volume on the Jamo sub, except those knobs are located on the underside of the unit. Check out this Russound ADP-1.2 speaker-level to line-level adapter. This can be used on your speaker outputs on the Marantz and will allow the sub level to be controlled with the volume knob as well. I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_543ADP12/Russound-ADP-1-2-Speaker-level-to-Line-level-Adapter.html

Would like to add Soundbar with a Subwoofer to my Samsung TV. I would also like to be able to use the Subwoofer with my stereo receiver when I'm not using the TV. How can I connect the subwoofer to both systems?
tom  Aug 19, 2022
1 answer
A
Using a splitter here could cause issues with signal quality, Thomas. In this unusual application, a "hot swap" (manually switching the RCA connection from soundbar to stereo may be the best call here. I hope this helps!

I have this subwoofer and it buzzes when it's plugged in. How do I stop the buzzing?
steve  Mar 11, 2022

A
My 1.5-year-old Jamo Sub doesn't ever make a "buzzing sound." I would contact Crutchfield if it is still under the 5 year warranty and get it replaced.
bill  Mar 13, 2022
A
there are a lot of things buzzing can come from. if you can hook the sub up to another system in the house, check that out, and If you've checked the regular suspects; power supply, polarity, grounding of your equipment, old wires, then it could be the sub. double check all that stuff; the 808 is a nice sub, it should not perform like that.
steve  Mar 11, 2022
A
At the moment with this subwoofer i dont have the problem but inthe past i have similar issue and the reason was the quality of the cables. Now i use mediabridge without issues.
richard  Mar 11, 2022
A
I'm no authority (but I play one in the movies) Anyway, have you checked the cables? Are they older cables? How about the connection between the Component System and the Sub-Box? To be fair, is the system you have "too much" for the subwoofer to handle? Were you viewing Apocalypse Now after the US Army drops Napalm on the Jungle at volume 100,000? I'm not trying to be a smart guy. I'm just ask questions to help you out.
elliot  Mar 11, 2022

It might be defective. I bought one on amazon and it buzzed while plugged in. I returned it and got one from Crutchfield - the new one does not buzz.

Need to clarify size and positioning I plan to place this behind a couple of chairs in my living room, but the specifications I find a bit confusing. If I was to place this "longways" against the wall, with the speaker facing out towards the room, is the "depth then 7"?

A
Yes, your right on. It's a great sub that fits in tight spaces. I highly recommend it.
jeff  Dec 05, 2020
A
Yes - it's a fairly "flat" subwoofer that would be 7 inches or so from the wall when set against it. Note though that this subwoofer is more suitable for smaller rooms - it wouldn't really shake a larger room if that's what you're after.

Im planning to put this subwoofer next to my cabinet with the speaker facing a cement wall, will I have issues with this?

I have this sub in-between the media console and the right speaker. The television hangs above the media console. (Regular dry wall, sheet rock) I have had no issues. The turntable is less than 6 feet away and has never skipped. Honestly, I have never cranked it up 100%,but I have had it loud enough to have my kids ask to turn it down. The cement walls may give it a better deeper or boomer sound.

Q
connect to amplifier with only a left and right channel .pre out.two channel stereo?
roger  Dec 23, 2018
4 answers
A
The speaker company I connected my Jamo S 808 subwoofer to recommended simply connecting it to either the right or left channel. I did this and it worked just fine. You could also get a stereo to mono converter (a sinple y-cable won't work). But these are harder to find and more expensive than you might think. Ultimately you probably won't notice a difference compared to connecting it to just one channel.
mihran  Jan 05, 2019
A
Good morning, Roger. I'm using the sub mini-jack out on my NAD D 3020v2 w/ its own built in low pass crossover, but I just tried the amp's stereo line out mini jack; it seems to work fine but probably would benefit from a different setting on the Jamo sub's built-in crossover which, in the end, you set by ear. Hope this helps. Cheers, J.
j galen  Dec 24, 2018
A
Your amp should have a sub out connection, the sub has a built in mono amp that's triggered by your stereo amp, follow instructions that come with the sub
steven  Dec 23, 2018
A
I might be mistaken, since I don't entirely understand your question, however if your 2 channel stereo has a pre out, then look for preout with a connection for subwoofer. I'll be sending back to Crutchfield email picture.
