AudioQuest X2 Speaker Cable: AudioQuest's X2 is a 14AWG speaker wire that is built around a Semi-Solid Concentric design which is more robust than conventional stranded bundle wire. In conventional multi-strand speaker wire, strands can change position within the bundle. Electrical and magnetic interaction are compounded as each strand changes position, causing distortion. With AudioQuest's Semi-Solid concentric packing, the long-grain copper strands within the smaller, tighter concentric bundle do not change position, significantly reducing distortion.
- Semi-Solid Concentric Packed Conductors: Semi-Solid Concentric Packed Conductors use fewer, larger strands that do not change position down the length of the cable to avoid the distortion characteristics of basic stranded conductors.
- Long-Grain-Copper (LGC): LGC allows a smoother and clearer sound than cab regular OFHC (Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity) copper. OFHC is a general metal in specification regarding loss without any concern for distortion. LGC has fewer oxides within the conducting material, less impurities, less grain boundaries, and better performance.
- Spread-Spectrum Technology (SST): Any single size or shape of conductor has a specific distortion profile. Spread-Spectrum Technology (SST) significantly reduces the awareness of these character flaws by using a precise combination of different size conductors.
Note: Available in a 30' or 50' length with a dark grey or off-white PVC jacket.
Installation: The AudioQuest X2 speaker wire is unterminated, allowing for direct connector or the addition of optional connectors such as banana plugs (sold separately). The X2 speaker wire's PVC jackets should be carefully stripped 1/2". For optimum performance, make sure to follow the printed arrows on the X2 speaker wire's PVC jacket. These arrows should point toward your speaker.

Is the wire just one cable, or 2? I mean if you run speaker wire to a speaker that is 15 feet away do you need 15 feet or 30 feet too hook up your speaker??

Hi John, the AudioQuest X2 speaker cable is a 30 foot spool of speaker cable. If you are using this cable to connect 2 speakers that are 15 feet away from your amp or receiver, you will be able to cut this cable to 2 runs of 15 feet. This product ships as one spool of cable, totaling 30 feet. If you plan on connecting one set of speakers that are both 15 feet away from your listening source, you will need to cut the cable's length into one half. This will give you two runs of cable, and will allow each speaker to be connected 15 feet from your listening source.

It's a real of 30ft of one cable. So if you are hooking 2 speakers like a left and right, then you have to cut the cable. You have to measure your distance from the speaker to your amp/receiver. Keep in mind that you have to account for drop distance because the cable has to drop to the ground.

The wire is one cable. If your speaker is 15ft away then you would only need 15ft of cable for that particular speaker.

you would only need 15ft. the speaker wire is ran in pairs and fuse tog. so red and block essentially ran 30ft. exactly how picture is

Hey John, it's a regular speaker wire. Which has a negative and a positive. So it's two wires running together. So you would need 15ft... but make sure you have a little bit of slack on the wire just in case you want to reposition or anything like that.

Is the 14 gauge dual conductor cable pliable or is it stiff? I have a concern when pulling the amp out from the cabinet if the wire will loop okay and not pull out of the female banana plug. Is it a personal preference to shrink wrap the over the banana plug or is there a good reason for doing this? Thanks for any input.

This wire is very easy to work with. It does not pull out the banana plug however heat shrinking it will increase strength I would have done it but I don't have the tools to do that with. This is a great wire I've had it for about two years now it's absolutely fantastic for the money.

There's an important piece of information missing from the question: the length of the run. Assuming the runs to each speakers aren't "long," which to me means anything exceeding 10 feet, I would answer no: it doesn't make any difference if you use 14 or 16 gauge.

AudioQuest X2 Cable uses long-grain copper. Long-grain copper has less oxides, less impurities, and less grain boundaries than industry standard oxygen-free high conductivity copper, which reduces the amount of interference within the cable. You can read various discussions on-line about cable design and manufacturing to answer this question in detail. Speaker cable, speakers and design are very subjective in my opinion. I am not disappointed in this purchase at all.

The Audio Quest X2 speaker cable arrived on time and was exactly what I expected. However, I was a little surprised at how neatly the speaker cable was packaged by Audio Quest (in a very attractive box). I especially liked the clear (easy to see) red marking indicating polarity.
