Features
Built-in Amplification: The Klipsch R-40PM features built-in amplification with an ultra-low noise 50 watt (RMS) / 100 watt (Peak) x 2 channel amplifier housed in the "Right Speaker" that supplies power to drive both speakers in the system. The built-in amplifier has been custom deigned to maximize driver performance and eliminate the need for external amplification. The "Right Speaker" and "Left Speaker" are both outfitted with binding-post speaker terminals on the back of the cabinet and come with 16' of speaker wire (18AGW) to connect the speakers together.
Note: The included speaker wire can be swapped out for higher grade or longer speaker cables. The binding post terminals will accommodate bare wire (up to 12AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and bananaa plugs (single or dual).
Dynamic Bass EQ: Dynamic Bass EQ applies loudness correction to automatically adjust low frequency levels as volume changes. As the human ear perceives bass frequencies differently with variations in output level, the R-40PM will dynamically match the ear's ability to hear lower frequencies. As a result, you get powerful bass whether the listening volume is low, cranked up, or somewhere in between.
1" Horn-Loaded Tweeter: The R-40PM powered loudspeaker features Klipsch's proprietary Tractrix Horn technology mated with a 1" LTS aluminum tweeter, for impressive high-frequency response and greater extension, enhanced imaging and powerful dynamics.
- 90°x90° Tractrix Horn: The square Tractrix Horn delivers a 90° (w) x 90° (h) dispersion pattern and features an increased "edge-to-edge" outer horn dimension that allows for directivity control over a larger bandwidth of frequencies, resulting in improved high frequency directivity and a more accurate soundstage. Klipsch exclusive Tractrix horn technology ensures that the speaker's high frequency energy is aimed at the listener and reduces artificial reverb or filtering caused by indirect sound bouncing off of walls. Using this proprietary focused technology provides clarity, dynamics, and detail for your movies and music.
- LTS Aluminum Tweeter: Behind each horn lies a 1" LTS aluminum tweeter with a Kapton suspension. Klipsch exclusive Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performances. Aluminum is an extremely light and rigid material used in the tweeter assembly to provide high efficiency and improve resolution and detail.
4" Spun-Copper TCP Woofer: The Klipsch R-40PM houses one 4" Spun-Copper TCP (Thermoformed Crystalline Polymer) woofer for deep, smooth, and accurate bass. TCP woofers have steeper angling of the cones for a smoother response and improved accuracy and transparency. The additional ribbing increases the overall rigidity for less cone breakup at higher frequencies.
MDF Cabinet: The Klipsch R-40PM powered speaker features a MDF cabinet with a scratch-resistant, textured wood grain vinyl that seamlessly integrates into almost any room or decor. The enclosure's reinforced MDF construction reduces cabinet vibration for less audible coloration and improved sonic accuracy. The MDF enclosure also features a satin painted baffle with a scratch resistant design for an elegant look without the grille.
- Rear Tractrix Port: The rear Tractrix port of the R-40PM powered loudspeaker is perfectly matched to the cabinet and woofer, creating ideal airflow with minimal distortion and turbulence even at the lowest frequencies. Klipsch Tractrix ports have custom designed inner flares that help reduce air turbulence entering the port. Less turbulent air helps reduce port noise for cleaner, more powerful bass.
- Acoustically Transparent Grille: The Klipsch R-40PM powered loudspeaker comes with a removable, black cloth grille that is magnetic and acoustically transparent. This strong magnetic grille provides protection and a sleek aesthetic look to compliment your home's decor.
Bluetooth Music Streaming: The Klipsch R-40PM powered loudspeaker features built-in Bluetooth 5.0 with support for wireless audio streaming (A2DP) and playback control (AVRCP). You'll be able stored music, music apps, and other audio content on your Bluetooth-enabled source device (such as a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer) to the Klipsch powered speaker system. You'll also be able to control basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause) from the included IR (infrared) remote. Advanced playback control and song/artist/album information will still need to be done from your Bluetooth source device. The R-40PM offers Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) and allows multiple devices to be paired to the speaker system, but only one device can be connected and used for playback at a time. Once paired, the R-40PM will automatically re-connect with your device when in wireless range (up to 33').
USB-B Input: The "Right Speaker" of the Klipsch R-40PM features a rear-panel USB-B input for connecting your Windows PC or Mac computer/laptop. Through the R-40PM's USB-B connection, you are able to play music files (up to 24-bit/96kHz) stored on your Windows PC or Mac computer/laptop through the powered speaker system.
Optical Digital Input: The Klipsch R-40PM is fitted with an optical (toslink) digital input on the back of the "Right Speaker" for connection to a digital audio device like your TV, Blu-ray, or CD player. The speaker's optical digital input will accept 2ch stereo PCM only (up to 24-bit/96kHz).
Note: The R-40PM does not support Dolby Digital, DTS, or other multichannel surround formats.
Dual Analog Inputs w/ Phono Switch: The Klipsch R-40PM is equipped with two analog audio inputs on back of the "Right Speaker"; there is one stereo 3.5mm minijack input for connecting a portable audio device with a headphone jack and one stereo RCA input for connecting an analog audio component. The stereo RCA input has a Phono switch which allows you to connect a turntable, so you can enjoy your vinyl record collection.
Sub Out: The Klipsch R-40PM features a mono-sub RCA output on the back of the "Right Speaker" that allows you to connect a powered subwoofer for even bigger bass response. The sub output has its own independent volume control that can be access from the included IR remote. The sub output does not features its own low pass filter, so your powered sub should have its own built-in low-pass crossover.
IR Remote: The Klipsch R-40PM includes an IR (infrared) wireless remote control for wireless operation of the powered speaker, plus control of your Bluetooth paired devices. The remote offers easy access to system features such as dedicated source selection, volume up/down, play/pause, and Bluetooth pairing. Make sure to point the IR remote at the IR sensor on the "Right Speaker".
Mounting Options: The Klipsch R-40PM can be placed on a speaker stand, bookshelf, table, or other flat surface. The R-40PM comes with an integrated cork pad on the bottom of the speaker cabinet to secure each speaker in place and prevent any damage to your stand's or shelf's surface.
- Klipsch suggests placing the loudspeakers 6' to 15' apart. The listening position should be about 1 to 1.5x the distance separating the speakers.
- The speakers should be positioned at ear level in your main seated listening position. The speakers may also be toed-in slightly for better stereo imaging.
AC Power: The Klipsch R-40PM's "Right Speaker" which is equipped with the built-in amplifier must be plugged into an AC power outlet using the included 68" detachable AC power cord. An auto-standby function automatically turns the speaker system offer when there is no audio signal or operation for approximately 20 minutes.
