About the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-8060FA

Movie theater performance from Klipsch

If you want truly immersive sound from your home theater, consider using the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-8060FA tower as a left- or right-channel speaker in your system. This giant floor-stander is really two speakers in one — a feature-packed Klipsch tower that's terrific for music and movie soundtracks, and also a Dolby Atmos upward-firing speaker that bounces sound effects off of your ceiling.

Excellent sound from multiple directions

This is the most capable speaker in Klipsch's 2018 Reference Premiere lineup. Its "main section" features two 8" spun-copper woofers for deep, powerful bass and midrange, along with Klipsch's signature 1" horn-loaded tweeter for smooth, detailed highs.

It also has an upward-facing 6-1/2" woofer and 1" horn-loaded tweeter, which together provide three-dimensional sound effects in your room.

Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-8060FA Dolby Atmos enabled floor-standing speaker

The Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-8060FA has an upward-firing array that bounces sound effects off of your ceiling.

Hybrid horn technology for dynamic performance

Horn technology is one of Klipsch's long-standing hallmarks. Flared openings in the speaker cabinet project sound waves toward your listening area and prevent them from simply spilling out in all directions. This design reduces reflections that can color the sound, and boosts dynamics and efficiency for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Klipsch's Tractrix® horn features a circular throat around an advanced titanium diaphragm tweeter that transitions into a square 90º x 90º mouth. This unique shape provides a cleaner, more efficient transition of sound waves into your listening space. The result is a wide listening "sweet spot" with precise placement of instruments and vocals.

A horn that enhances bass, too

Take a look at the back of the RP-8060FA and you'll find that instead of the conventional round port tube found on many speakers, Klipsch uses a Tractrix horn-shaped opening for smoother, more efficient airflow in and out of the cabinet. The resulting decrease in air turbulence makes for cleaner, more powerful bass with reduced port noise and low-frequency distortion.

Because this speaker is rear-ported, I recommend pulling it away from your wall to give it room to "breathe."

Bi-amp or bi-wire for even better sound

On the back of the RP-8060FA you'll find two sets of speaker input terminals for the main speaker section. These let you bi-amp or bi-wire your speaker to get the best sound out of it.

There's also an additional set of input terminals that connect to your receiver's height channel to power the Atmos array.

    Features

Integrated Dolby Atmos Speaker: The Reference Premiere RP-8060FA Dolby Atmos enabled floorstanding speaker includes a built-in elevation channel speaker integrated into the top of the speaker to reflect sound off the ceiling to deliver the overhead Dolby Atmos experience in addition to stereo sound towards the listener. The integrated up-firing speaker consists of a 1" titanium LTS tweeter mated to a 90° x 90° square Tractrix Horn, plus a 6.5" Cerametallic cone woofer.

Note: Dolby Atmos delivers captivating, object-based sound that places and moves audio anywhere in the room to bring entertainment alive all around the audience. With Dolby Atmos sound comes alive from all directions, including overhead, to fill a home theater with astonishing clarity, power, detail and depth. Learn more out Dolby Atmos here.

1" Horn-Loaded Tweeter: The Klipsch RP-8060FA floorstanding loudspeaker features a 1" Titanium LTS Vented Tweeter with a Hybrid Tractrix Horn for exceptional high frequency response, detail, and dispersion. Klipsch proprietary Tractrix horn-loaded technology ensures high-frequency energy of the RP-8060FA floorstanding speakers are aimed directly at the listener and reduces unwanted, artificial reverb caused by indirect sound bouncing off walls - meaning you experience the most clear, detailed, lifelike sound possible.

    • Titanium LTS Vented Tweeter: The titanium tweeter diaphragm's light weight yet rigid composition exceeds the performance of aluminum, polymer or silk tweeters. A vented tweeter design reduces standing waves behind the tweeter diaphragm for a smoother high frequency reproduction. Klipsch award-winning Linear Travel Suspension technology leverages a piston motion of the titanium diaphragm that lowers distortion and delivers real-to-life sound. A ceramic magnet housing provides premium performance.
    • Hybrid Tractrix Horn Technology: This redesigned 90°x90° Hybrid Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The Hybrid Tractrix Horn's compressed molded silicon face adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and horn resonance for a smoother frequency response with improved detail - creating a clean and natural sound. Klipsch also utilizes computer modeled phase plugs that act as a mechanical filter to further ensure a smooth, flat frequency response while protecting the tweeter from damage.

Dual 8" Cerametallic Woofers: The RP-8060FA floorstanding loudspeaker utilizes two 8" Klipsch Proprietary Cerametallic woofers. Cerametallic consists of extremely light, rigid materials that can hold shape while being able to deliver lower frequencies with maximum efficiency. The Klipsch Cerametallic cone is matted to a dual-layer, copper-wound voice coil for exceptional conductivity. The 8" woofers are housed in a non-resonating, stamped-steel basket that's secured to a large magnet motor for exceptional efficiency and low distortion.

Power Handling: The RP-8060FA's main front channel, consisting of one 1" Tractrix horn-loaded titanium tweeter and two 8" Cerametallic woofers, can handle up to 150 watts continuous (RMS) and 600 watts max (Peak). The R-8060FA's up-firing Dolby Atmos channel, consisting of one 1" Tractrix horn-loaded titanium tweeter and one 6.5" Cerametallic woofer, can handle up to 75 watts continuous (RMS) and 300 watts max (Peak).

Rear Tractrix Port: The rear Tractrix port of the RP-8060FA floorstanding loudspeaker is perfectly matched to the cabinet and woofer, creating ideal airflow with minimal distortion and turbulence even at the lowest frequencies. Klipsch Tractrix ports have custom designed inner flares that help reduce air turbulence entering the port. Less turbulent air helps reduce port noise for cleaner, more powerful bass.

MDF Cabinet: The Klipsch RP-8060FA floorstanding speaker features a MDF cabinet with a scratch-resistant, textured wood grain vinyl that seamlessly integrates into almost any room or decor. The enclosure's reinforced MDF construction reduces cabinet vibration for less audible coloration and improved sonic accuracy. The MDF enclosure also features a satin painted baffle with a scratch resistant design for an elegant look without the grille.

Acoustically Transparent Grille: The Klipsch RP-8060FA floorstanding loudspeaker comes with a removable, black cloth grille that is magnetic and acoustically transparent. This strong magnetic grille provides protection and a sleek aesthetic look to compliment your home's decor.

Binding Posts: The Klipsch RP-8060FA is outfitted with two sets of binding posts for the front speaker channel and one set of binding posts for the height (elevation) speaker channel. These sturdy binding posts ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-lugs and bare wire (up to 10AWG). Two plastic caps will need to be removed to use banana plugs.

    • Front Channel: The Klipsch RP-8060FA is fitted with two sets of binding posts for the front speaker channel, allowing to bi-amp or bi-wire the floorstanding loudspeaker. The front speaker channel binding posts will need to be connected to your AV receiver's main front speaker outputs. If you decide to bi-wire or bi-amp, you must remove the jumpers between the terminal posts (failure to do this could result in damage to your amplifier and loudspeakers).
      • Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
      • Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.
    • Height Channel: The Klipsch RP-8060FA is also fitted with a set of binding posts for the height (elevation) speaker channel. The height (elevation) speaker channel binding posts must be connected to your AV receiver's Dolby Atmos effects speaker outputs. The speaker terminals are placed low on the cabinet for convenience and an unobtrusive connection.

Cast Aluminum Stabilizer Feet: The Klipsch floorstanding loudspeaker includes pre-installed, cast-aluminum stabilizer feet with rubber pads for safe placement on hardwood, tile, laminate, and vinyl flooring. The cast aluminum feet are mechanically designed to minimize surface area in contact with the floor, decoupling the speaker for faster, tighter low frequencies and more detail. No carpet spikes are included, and the speaker will not support optional carpet spikes or other type of feet.

Note: Do not remove the stabilizer feet. The Klipsch floorstanding loudspeaker should not be used without the stabilizer feet due to stability and sound performance reasons.

Application & Placement: The Klipsch RP-8060FA floorstanding loudspeaker can be used in a dedicated stereo application or in a home theater application as front and/or rear speakers.

    • Front Placement: For optimum performance in a stereo application or as front speakers in a home theater application, Klipsch suggests placing the loudspeakers 6' to 15' apart. They may also be toed-in slightly for better stereo imaging. The listening position should be about 1 to 1.5x the distance separating the speakers.
    • Rear Placement: When used as surround speakers in a home theater setup, the speakers should be placed on the walls directly adjacent to the listening position. Another option would be on the wall behind the listening position.

Reference Premiere Series: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series utilizes a redesigned hybrid 90°x90° Tractrix Horn, a vented LTS titanium tweeter, Cerametallic woofer construction, and Tractrix geometry port technology for sound that will envelope you and blow you away. The Reference Premiere series by Klipsch consists of a variety of floorstanding, bookshelf, center, and surround speakers (all sold separately). Click on the Accessories Tab to find more Reference Premiere series speakers for your home system.

Optional Powered Sub: For bigger & deeper bass response, pair the Klipsch Reference Premiere series loudspeaker with one of Klipsch's powered subwoofers (sold separately - click on Accessories Tab).

How are these half the price at Crutchfield than anywhere else? Are they refurbished or new? Thanks.

Greetings John, and thank you for your question. These are new, fully warrantied Klipsch speakers. We are an authorized dealer of everything we sell. I cannot answer why another retailer would have these for double what we are selling them for. There is a promo price on them right now.

    Q
My media room will have a vaulted ceiling, with the gable running front to back at about 12' tall. TV and floor standing speakers will be at the front of room, all centered. Will the up-firing Atmos Height speakers hitting a 6/12 pitch ceiling re-direct the up-firing channel, and produce odd sounds, especially if they are intersecting??

Greetings AJW0106, and thank you form your question. In a perfect setting, of course the flat ceiling is optimum, but not everybody has the perfect setting. More ceiling are vaulted now. At least a 6/12 pitch is not very severe. Yes its going to direct at a slight angle, but the sound is still going to be in the middle of the room. Another option is no Atmos toppers, but an in ceiling speaker with an aimable tweeter.

    Q
Ok so you have to use seperate inputs for the height(elevation)speakers on these,as opposed the (one)many people currently use for front towers. Many people may need a new reciever if they don't have extra input spots like me,so that needs to be taken into consideration. My question is if your receiver isnt clearly marked for this like the one I am looking into buying, would you hook the elevation speaker input into the one thats just marked "surround height" or the "height surround back" input?.Im assuming on this peticular model it would be the first one or the "surround height" as it's intended as a front speaker and not as as rear correct?.

Well they could be used for either surround height front or back or both. Your only limited by the receiver you use. I can set the configuration on my receiver. Ceiling mounted front height or back height or both or speaker mounted front or back or only height front and speaker mounted back or any other combination u can think of including sides. If u dont want to mount speakers on the wall or ceiling, these are nice and clean.

Hi Jbyrd... I don't see why you couldn't use these speakers as rear surrounds. I'm a novice and I do as much research as I can to make an informed decision. I use these speakers for my front stage and I'm enjoying the experience. The Crutchfield employees are a great resource... take advantage of their expertise. I hope I was somewhat helpful. Whatever you decide Good Luck and Best Wishes.

    Q
I just want to use a pair of these speakers as my front speakers in my 5.1 surround sound system. I already have rear room corner speakers mounted and intend to still use them. They use my "surround right" and "surround left" speakers connections on my AV unit. They are not Atmos capable speakers, so will I be able to use these 8060FA's as my front speakers using just the "front left" or the "front right" speaker connections to give me Atmos in the front? And by doing so I will only be using the pair of the speaker wires that plug into the "right front" and "left front" from my 8060 FA to my AV unit. Is that possible or do these speakers have to be connected to your AV unit via the two sets of speaker wires that utilize not only the front speakers but also the "surround right" and surround left" leaving my current rear speakers unconnected?

There are 2 connections on this speaker: 1 set of binding posts for front/rear use (bi-amp or bi-wire) capable and 1 set of binding posts for the ATMOS speaker. You cannot get ATMOS without a dedicated channel from your AV Receiver. So in your setup, you need Sub, Front R, Front L, Center, Rear R, Rear L AND Height Front R + Height Front L channels/connections to give you a 5.1.2 system. Incidentally, aside from the available channels, your Receiver needs to be ATMOS capable in order to decode the signal and drive the channel/speaker correctly.

The speakers have 2 sets of posts (3 technically if you were to removing the binding plate and bi-amp the mains). You would connect the main set to the Left or Right on your AVR, and the built in Atmos speakers have their own set of binding posts you connect to your Height Left / Height Right channels. This doesn't effect your rears at all.

I added a pair of 8060FAs to my home theatre setup a few months ago, and they're terrific. If what you're looking for is front-channel speakers, you might consider the 8000Fs instead. They're essentially the same as the 8060FAs, but without the up-firing Atmos drivers, and are several hundred dollars less. To get Atmos effects, you need to have an Atmos-capable AV receiver, which would have a set of speaker outputs specifically for the overhead effects. These outputs would be labeled as "height", "Atmos", "ceiling", "overhead", or something similar. They are distinct from the "surround", "surround rear", or "surround side" speaker outputs, and respond to a different part of the Atmos audio encoding. If your AV unit is not Atmos capable, then it won't decode the Atmos component of the audio; and without the dedicated speaker outputs, the up-firing drivers in the 8060FAs will likely remain silent. The Dolby company website has a really good explanation of Atmos, including audio demos.

Does anyone recommend adding other front speakers to the Klypsch RP 8060 , in order to listen to music in a better way?, I read from some users that it is not that good with music, like it is with movies.

It's all about your preferences. If u want to be enveloped by sound add as many as you can like or can afford. I use them for both stereo and home theater. But I prefer not to add more fronts, these are plenty in both quality and loud.

No substitute for hours and hours of using different speaker placements, volume levels, music genres and mixings etc... Try using two old speakers in place of where you want the tops and listen for if it's worth the additional expense. I'm running a 7.2 Klipsch RF Series so it just takes time. And a we'll versed in music friend is always helpful. Good listening...

I have mine on a carpeted floor, and have had no issues (though perhaps I should note that it is not a super-thick carpet; perhaps that would make a difference).
    david  Aug 11, 2020
    A
I believe it can. it does stand on the four corners which have small feet with rubber bottoms, but I don't see what it still can't stand on carpet. The small feet will probably dig down into the carpet, not damaging it but might still sit up a little higher.
    ben  Apr 23, 2020
    A
Yes it can, but like every other speaker on a carpet (especially tower speakers on thick carpet), stability can be an issue. Make sure it is stable and not easily rocked side-to-side. One solution would be to cut a thick board to the size of the base of the RP-8060FA and put the board on spikes and place the speaker on the board.

Hi Brad, the speaker feet are somewhat thin composite/ plastic with a thin rubber strip on the bottom. Mine are currently on a hardwood floor an working great but I woul feel totally confident about putting them on a thin or thick carpeting and have them work equally as good. We love the speakers !
