Another winner from Dan Clark!

Full disclosure, I'm a huge Dan Clark fan, going back to the "MrSpeakers" days and own the OG Aeon Flow Closed as well as Ether Flow Open. I spent a few weeks recently with the Aeon Noire, and it didn't disappoint! In comparison to the Aeon Flow, Dan and Co have made a few improvements; the Noire is a little more energetic, dynamic, and arguably more "fun" - I believe Dan Clark tuned these to closer match the Harman curve. Bass is elevated but retains crisp and clean. Even with these changes, the Aeon Noire retains the same resolving and detail retrieval capabilities of the original. In addition, the soundstage seems a bit wider (considering this was a closed back, I was pleasantly surprised by this!), everything feels as though it comes from a very black background, and imaging is great. Like most planars, these want a bit of juice to really come alive, but if you've got a good headphone amp this one is a winner! Comfort is also top notch, with light weight for a planar and a secure-but-not-too-tight clamping force; I had no issues listening for extended periods of time - and considering their sound quality, this was a frequent occurrence!

Pros: Lightweight/comfortable, excellent detail while retaining a fun and engaging sound, solid build quality.

Cons: Maybe not a "con" per se - but be sure to drive these with solid amplification for the best results!

1st closed back headphones & they sound great. I have Dan Clark electrostatic ear speakers so I expected the Aeon 2 to be excellent sounding, they are. Would definitely recommend.

Every once in a while, you run into an audio product that meets the requirements of audiophile music lovers with the age-old adage of " just gets out of the way and leaves the music". I can definitely say the Aeon 2 Closed fully meets this requirement. I was searching for something that at least matched if not exceeded my old reference HD600 phones in a closed back while not spending into the stratosphere. While the $900 price for the Aeon 2 is not bargain basement it is definitely not in the rarefied air of say a Stealth, HD820 or Stellia, etc. For this modest price it does accomplish quite a bit. Very smooth and easy listening yet quite detailed and highly resolved without any added edge. It is not for bass lovers per se, but its bass is well extended, tuneful and definitely NOT bloated. Its presentation is much of an integrated whole not parts and pieces of frequency responses. You can listen for hours without fatigue. Very comfortable, well built and highly portable. It only requires some additional "oomph!" on the power side as its efficiency is a bit less the other phones. Don't scrimp on the amp. I think the Aeon 2 will satisfy listeners from jazz to EDM. From classical to metal.

Pros: Smooth, neutral sounding. Well built. Portable. Modest price for performance.

Cons: Needs some extra amplification.

Very clear and accurate sound quality with remarkable speed, bringing out details on familiar recordings so that the experience is fresh. Lightweight and comfortable. Definitely needs a headphone amp to perform at full potential. Even my integrated amp headphone jack wasn't enough.

Pros: Sound spectrum accuracy; quickness

Cons: Needs headphone amp to perform at best.
