Features
Overview: The Dan Clark Audio CORINA Reference Electrostatic Headphones are designed for superior sound quality. Hand-built in San Diego, CA, CORINA features luxurious synthetic protein leather ear pads and headband. The headphones come with a 79" (2-meter) fabric-covered, silver-plated copper signal/bias cable with a 5-pin Teflon plug, and a headphone stand.
Electrostatic Headphones: Electrostatic headphones, unlike dynamic headphones, require dedicated electrostatic energizers or amplifiers. Energizers take the output of a loudspeaker amplifier and increase the voltage swing, while adding the required bias voltage. Electrostatic amplifiers are typically dedicated to electrostatic headphones. The CORINA electrostatic headphones require 580V "Pro-bias", compatible with electrostatic headphone amplifiers or energizers that support "Stax-Pro" bias voltages.
Burn-in Period: For optimum performance, the drivers require a "burn-in" period to enable the headphones to reach their full potential. Burn-in requires the continuous playing of audio through the headphones for several days. During this period, the internal parts of the drivers are "exercised" so they can settle in to their respective places in order to deliver optimum audio performance. The recommended burn-in period for CORINA is 50 to 100 hours.
Lightweight Construction: The CORINA headphones are equipped with a fully dust-shielded large 88mm (3.46") diameter full-range driver with a 2.4 micron thick diaphragm, and ultra-thin metal stators for superior sound quality. The earcups feature a beautiful pewter gray finish with an elegantly sculpted grill. The headband is made of lightweight NiTinol (Nickel-Titanium alloy) memory metal with a wide, blue-stitched leather band that is self-adjusting for consistent pressure. The matched luxury leather ear pads feature a suede surface that reduces heat and moisture buildup when worn for extended periods. Overall, the CORINA reference headphones weigh just over 1 pound (16.4 ounces).
Acoustic Metamaterial Tuning System (AMTS): AMTS is a patent-pending device that is located in between the transducer and the ear. It features waveguides, diffusion control, quarter-wave, and Helmholtz resonators that eliminate standing waves that are harmful to the overall sound. Standing waves in the higher frequencies can make vocals, strings, cymbals, and other instruments sound harsh and fatiguing. The AMTS acts like a filter to smooth out the midrange and high frequencies to give you better accuracy and clarity.
Signal/Bias Cable: The detachable low-capacitance headphone cable features silver-plated copper for superior signal and voltage transfer. The 79" cable has dual machined aluminum connectors on the headphone end, while the amplifier end is terminated with a proprietary machined Teflon and aluminum plug with 5 gold-plated solid copper pins. The cable is attached to the earcups with hex screws to prevent it from accidental detachment. A 1.5mm hex wrench and spare screws are included in case you need to replace the cable.
