About the Definitive Technology IW Sub Reference

Get big bass, save space
Get big bass, save space
If you want a solid home theater system, you definitely need a powerful subwoofer. And if you're looking for a bigger boom, these can end up getting pretty big. The Definitive Technology IW Sub Reference is a space-saving solution that brings your entertainment to life with high-impact bass. This in-wall sub has a 13" long-throw woofer paired with a 13" passive radiator, giving it a ton of surface area for its size, but with greater control and accuracy than a single-woofer sub.
The IW Sub Reference's enclosure is non-resonant to prevent unwanted vibrations so you can feel the onscreen action without knocking all of the family photos off your wall.
Match with the SubAmp 600
Definitive Technology designed the 275-watt SubAmp 600 subwoofer amplifier (sold separately) to perfectly match this sub. Using them together guarantees you're getting just the right amount of power for optimal performance.
This amp goes on a shelf or equipment rack, along with your receiver and other A/V gear. If you have a large room, or want more evenly distributed bass, install two IW Sub References and drive them both from a single SubAmp 600. The amp delivers 230 watts to each sub.
Importante note: To take advantage of the IW Sub Reference's 5-year warranty, it should only be paired with the SubAmp 600.

Features
13" Woofer + 13" Bass Radiator: The Definitive Technology IWSub Reference includes a special shallow-depth, long-excursion 13" woofer that is pressure-coupled to an ultra-low 13" bass radiator to produce deep, impactful bass. The 13" woofer and 13" radiator boast a combined bass radiating surface area of over 265 square inches, while is more than an than an 18" woofer, but with greater speed and control for tighter, deeper, more powerful bass.
Outboard Subwoofer Amplifier (Sold Separately): The IWSub Reference in-wall subwoofer is externally powered and requires Definitive Technology's outboard SubAmp 600 (sold separately). The SubAmp 600 can power up to two IWSub Reference subwoofers, even in different rooms.
Full Enclosed Design: To play bass in the room it's intended for, rather than spilling into adjacent rooms via walls and ceilings, the IWSub Reference is fully enclosed and sealed with dense, acoustically inert, anti-resonant, anti-vibration Medite wood. As a result, you'll hear tight, powerful bass with no distortion or buzzing.
Paintable Grille: The IWSub Reference in-wall subwoofer comes with a detachable, metal-mesh white grille. The grille is paintable, so you can match the paint color of your wall.
Spring-Post Terminals: The IWSub Reference in-wall subwoofer is outfitted with a pair of spring-post speaker terminals which will accept bare wire (up to 12AWG), pin-connectors, and banana plugs (dual or single).
In-Wall Installation: The IWSub Reference subwoofer can be installed in the wall in new construction or existing construction. It requires a rectangular cut-out of 14.375" (w) x 25.125" (h) x 4.0" (d). The IWSub Reference is designed to be located between two vertical studs that are 16" OC (on-center). There needs to be a minium of 1.25" around the inside of the enclosure behind the wall to accommodate the locking arms. There also needs to be a minium of 1" around the enclosure on the outside of the wall to clear its bezel. Tools required for installation include the following -
- Pencil for marking and leveling the location of installation.
- Keyhole saw or utility knife for cutting drywall.
- Level for leveling in-wall subwoofer.
- Screwdriver, preferably powered, with Phillips head bit.
- Power drill with appropriate bit (optional, for starting wall cut).
- Included template & foam gaskets.
