Enjoy lifelike sound from this sleek floor-standing speaker
Definitive's Mythos One is the perfect visual complement to today's flat-panel TVs. Its slim, curved cabinet combines the elegance of hand-polished aluminum with state-of-the-art Definitive driver technology. You'll really like the look of Mythos its sleek design is at home in rooms where conventional speakers wouldn't stand a chance. And you'll love the way its big, full-range sound enhances your favorite movies, TV shows, and video games.

High-tech drivers for exceptionally detailed sound

Close-up of the pure aluminum dome tweeter.
The driver array near the top of the cabinet has two 5-1/4" midranges flanking a 1" dome tweeter, with all three sharing a sealed sub-enclosure that isolates them from the bass drivers, for accurate sound with pinpoint imaging. The pure aluminum dome tweeter produces extended highs that reveal nuance and subtle detail without a trace of edginess. Below this array are two 5-1/4" woofers pressure-coupled to two bass radiators. Together, these four drivers have a total surface area similar to that of one traditional 10" woofer, but they can produce bass response that's smoother and more controlled.
Gorgeous aircraft-grade aluminum cabinet
The slender Mythos One cabinet is made of black hand-polished aluminum, and rests on a tempered glass base to maintain rigidity and stability. Every aspect of the enclosure has been engineered for optimum sound quality. For example, the non-resonant PolyStone front baffle holds all seven drivers securely in place while fighting distortion-causing vibrations. Definitive's goal is simple: you should be hearing the drivers, not the enclosure.
Build a complete home theater system using perfectly matched Definitive Technology centers and surrounds. The Mythos One pairs well with Definitive's Mythos Eight for the center channel, and a pair of Gem XLs for surround speakers. Add the SuperCube II or ProSub 1000 for hard-hitting bass.

Driver Technology
Speaker Array: The Definitive Technology Mythos One tower loudspeaker contains a D'Appolito array consisting of two high-definition 5-1/4 inch midrange drivers surrounding a 1-inch dome tweeter housed in a sealed enclosure. The Mythos One also features two 5-1/4 inch high-definition bass drivers that are pressure-coupled to two 5-1/4 inch planar low-bass radiators for a total bass radiating surface greater than that of a single 8 inch conventional woofer. The result is exceptional bass extension and power. The loudspeakers active drivers feature die cast Aluminum baskets, mono-polymer cones, and finite element analysis optimized magnet structures for clear low distortion life-like sound. The tower loudspeaker utilizes a 1-inch pure aluminum dome tweeter with an acoustically contoured faceplate for excellent high frequency extension, detail, and smoothness. The bass roll-off of the Mythos One is smooth and controlled, allowing it to seamlessly blend with a powered subwoofer, such as Definitive's SuperCubes, for audiophile-grade home theater performance.
Linkwitz-Riley Crossover Network: The sophisticated Linkwitz-Riley crossover network design used in the Mythos One tower loudspeakers equalize the drivers for linear phase and frequency response to more perfectly blend the drivers into a sonically seamless audio environment.
Break-In Period: The Mythos One will sound good right out of the box; however, an extended break-in period of 20-40 hours or more of playing is required to reach full performance capability. The break-in period allows the suspensions to work in and results in full bass, a more open midrange, and smoother high frequency reproduction.
Enclosure Design
Extruded Aluminum Enclosure: The Mythos One enclosure is hand-polished gloss-black aircraft-grade extruded aluminum with proprietary damping technologies that ensure total rigidity. All components are mounted on a resonance-free PolyStone baffle. These construction technologies along with state-of-the-art drivers and tweeter serve to deliver high-quality sound with a wide soundstage, pinpoint imaging, high dynamic impact, and superb realism.
Connections
Binding Posts: The Mythos One is equipped with a pair of gold-plated, 5-way binding posts to attach your receiver's speaker wire.
Mounting Options
Tempered-Glass Base: The Mythos One tower loudspeakers feature a tempered glass base that include carpet spikes and rubber feet for stability on any type of floor surface.
Applications: The Definitive Technology Mythos One can be used as a front main or rear/side surround speaker.
- Front: When used as front left and right speakers, the Mythos tower loudspeakers can be placed right next to your flat-panel TV with excellent results or may be separated by a distance greater the width of the TV. The speakers may be angled in toward the listening position or left parallel with each other.
- Surround: When used as rear or side surround speaker, the Mythos tower loudspeakers may be located on the side or behind the listeners. When used on the sides, take care never to locate the speakers forward of the listeners. If the speakers are placed on the rear wall, it is suggested that they be positioned fairly wide apart if possible.

These Mythos One tower speakers definitely standup up to the Definitive Technology reputation. Sound quality, build quality, and style are top notch. With these tower speakers I didn't need a separate subwoofer for my music and movie needs. Totally worth the premium.
