Great Speaker, Tough Mounting

This is a fantastic speaker and it sounds great. I have just two gripes about the product - both which made mounting these speakers a serious chore. The joist screws (3-inch wood screws) are overmatched for the task of securing the speakers. During the install I snapped off two of these screws. They just snapped in half while going into 2x4's. Also, the grill install was ridiculous. One of the speakers just wouldn't accept the grill as one or more corners continually popped out. It could be that the sweat on my hands was making this part of the install even more difficult (I finally got it snapped in the next morning), but I know that I still have similar issues with my older UIW speakers from Definitive where the grill design just doesn't allow it to tightly secure.

Pros: Great fidelity and fullness

Cons: Mounting

Blown away by clarity and presence!

Wow. I am so darn impressed with this thing. I was tasked by a client to design and install a full ceiling 5.1 home theater system. While everyone knows it will sound better with wall or floor speakers, do not let anyone tell you it cannot be effective and sound amazing. This, used as a Center Channel of said 5.1 system is mind-blowingly clear and powerful. It's super sensitive, and performs excellently just using the 100 or so watts available to it from a normal Yamaha TSR-700 AVR (from Costco). We demoed it with a 4K Blu-Ray of Top Gun, and the way the movie is re-mastered, it sounded like Kenny Loggins was performing 10 feet in front of us. It handles super loud volumes with ease, doesn't distort, and does an awesome job with music as well (both in Stereo and Dolby Surround formats) - Chris Stapleton sounded ever better than usual. Crossed over at 50/60, it will give you legit sound all the way down to wherever you set it. In this system, it was paired with Definitive Technology DT8Rs for the L/R and L/R Surrounds and it all sounds magnificent. I'm telling you right now, if you have been wondering if overhead speakers can really give you legit Home Theater sound, then yes, they can. I'm salivating thinking about 5 or 7 of these with a big 12" floor sub like the Klipsch Reference 112SW in a non-Atmos configuration. They don't need it, but, run these through a nice Pre-Amp with some legit power in a separates system and you'd truly prove t

Pros: Stunning overhead clarity and presence as a center channel speaker

Cons: At 15x15, it's a big square and might need to framed in from above if your ceiling joists are 24" on center. Doesn't seem to be able to handle banana plugs
