Excellent sound, no matter what's behind your wall
One of the challenges that in-wall speaker designers face is that they don't know how much air space is inside your walls (or in other words, how big or small your speaker “cabinet” is).
Definitive Technology has a great solution for this — an airtight, built-in back-box that helps the speaker deliver focused, dynamic sound no matter what space is behind your wall.
The back-box also helps prevent sound from leaking through to an adjacent room, like when you're watching a movie at night while the kids are asleep.
DIY installation

Features
2-Way Driver Design: The Definitive Technology RLS III in-wall loudspeaker features a 2-way driver design with a 1" pure aluminum dome tweeter and two 5.25" polypropylene cone woofers, plus two 5.25" pressure-driven bass radiators. A precision crossover system provides seamless driver blending for a smooth open sound with with wide soundstage.
Non-Resonant Sealed Enclosure: The RLS III features a non-resonant sealed medite (a dense wood product) enclosure to deliver the tight, detailed bass and uncolored midrange of audiophile free-standing speakers in every installation. The performance of open back built-in speakers will vary depending on the nature of the ceiling cavity behind the speaker. But Definitive Reference series speakers with integrated enclosures sound superb every time.
Paintable: The UIW RLS III in-wall loudspeaker's grille and frame can be spray painted to match the color of your wall without any loss of sound quality. Simply remove the grille from the speaker and place it on a drop cloth, newspaper, or plastic sheet and spray paint it with canned spray paint that closely matches the desired finish/color (available at home improvement stores). A paint mask is supplied to protect the drivers when painting the frame.
Spring-Loaded Speaker Terminals: The UIW RLS II in-wall loudspeaker features a pair of heavy-duty, gold-plated, spring-loaded posts designed to accept up to 10 gauge wire, banana plugs (single only), or pin-connectors.
Applications: The Klipsch UIW RLS III is intended for use as an in-wall front main left, center or right channel speaker, as well as a rear or side surround speaker in custom installed home theater systems of the highest quality. In addition, it can be used as a superb left or right speaker in a high quality stereo music system.
In-Wall Installation: Eight rotating dogleg clamps and four 3.5" wood screws make the RLS III easy to install in either new or existing construction and provide secure, non-resonant mounting for ultimate audiophile performance free of vibrations and buzzes. In-wall installation requires a cutout of 5.875" (w) x 23.75" (h) x 3.875" (d). A 1" of clearance is required around the cutout, on the outside mounting surface, to clear the in-wall speaker's bezel. A 1.25" of clearance is required inside the wall, around the cutout, to clear the rotating dogleg clamps.
