Features
1" Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top Decoupled Carbon Dome: The Bowers & Wilkins HTM71S3 center-channel speaker houses a 1" Carbon Dome tweeter that utilizes a Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top design for uncompromising high performance sound that will reveal subtle nuances that you've never heard in your music before.
- 1" Decoupled Carbon Dome Tweeter: The 1" Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter is purpose-built for the 700 Series and delivers a dramatic improvement on B&W's aluminum double dome tweeter (found in the 600 Series) by raising the breakup threshold to 47kHz, for pinpoint imaging accuracy and detail. The tweeter is decoupled from the mounting assembly and hardware using synthetic gel to prevent any unwanted vibrations from reaching the tweeter. The result is breathtaking clarity and definition.
- Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top Design: The Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top design is borrowed from B&W 800 Series Diamond and helps the speaker convey uncanny realism, presence and transparency. Milled from a solid block of aluminum, the solid body tweeter housing design creates an acoustically optimized enclosure for the tweeter that is exceptionally inert and resistant to resonance. The result is a more natural, spacious, and open sound.
Note: There is some "play" in the tweeter housing mounted on top of the bookshelf loudspeaker enclosure. This is normal and specifically designed this way to prevent unwanted vibration between the tweeter housing and speaker enclosure.
4" Continuum Cone FST Midrange Driver with Biomimetic Suspension: Every 3-way loudspeaker in the new 700 Series (like the HTM71 S3) has a dedicated midrange driver using four key Bowers & Wilkins technologies - the Continuum cone, FST, Biomimetic Suspension and midrange decoupling - the latter ensuring minimal interference from the operation of the loudspeaker's bass drivers.
- Continuum Cone: The HTM71 S3 center-channel loudspeaker uses a 4" Continuum cone for its mididrange driver, borrowed from B&W's 800 Series Diamond. Thanks to its woven-coated material and composite construction, the Continuum cone provides a natural and open sound by avoiding the abrupt transitions in behavior that can impair the performance of a conventional drive unit and cause distortion. As a result, voice and instruments are delivered with purity and precision.
- FST (Fixed Suspension Transducer): The midrange driver in this loudspeaker also utilizes FST (fixed suspension transducer) technology to reduce cone distortion, incorporates a decoupled design to prevent cabinet coloration, and features a new FEA-optimised aluminium chassis to reduce vibration - all resulting in improved midrange clarity.
- Biomimetic Suspension: New to the 700 Series is B&W's Biomimetic Suspension technology that revolutionizes midrange performance by greatly reducing the unwanted air pressure and coloration that a traditional fabric spider can generate. The result is midrange transparency you have to hear to believe.
- Midrange Decoupling: The midrange driver of 700 Series HTM71 S3 center channel speaker features a decoupled design, developed from the 800 Series Diamond. Decoupling reduces cabinet coloration and boosts midrange clarity.
Dual 6.5" Aerofoil Profile Cone Bass Woofers: The Bowers & Wilkins HTM71 S3 center-channel loudspeaker houses two 6.5" Aerofoil Profile cone bass woofers. Developed using advanced computer modeling techniques, the Aerofoil Profile cone design (adapted from B&W's 800 Series Diamond) has variable thickness, providing stiffness and rigidity where it's needed most for deep, dynamic, and accurate bass response.
Flowport Technology: The B&W HTM71 S3 center-channel speaker utilizes Flowport Technology to create smooth, deep, and efficient bass response. Its bass reflex enclosure features a rear-firing, dimpled flared port that provides natural bass response without turbulent noise or distortion. If you want to reduce the volume of bass without moving the speaker further from the wall, fit the included foam plug into the rear-firing port for lesser bass response.
Note: You can adjust the center-channel speaker's low-frequency performance using the supplied foam plug. The foam plug is two-pieces, allowing for a degree of fine-tuning using either the outer, larger-diameter piece in isolation or the two parts together. Using solely the outer, larger-diameter foam piece will deliver less bass attenuation than the complete foam plug assembly.
Acoustically Transparent Magnetic Grille: The Bowers & Wilkins HTM71 S3 center-channel loudspeaker comes with an acoustically transparent magnetic grille that's easy to install, looks great, and doesn't get in the way of the sound.
Dual Binding Post Terminals: The center-channel speaker has two sets of heavy-duty binding posts connected by jumper straps. The binding post terminals will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, or banana plugs (single only). There are plastic inserts that will need to be removed from the binding post terminals in order to use banana plugs. Using the dual binding posts terminals, you can choose to bi-amp or bi-wire the speaker (when facing the back of the cabinet - the left set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the right set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
- Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier.
- Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.
Note: Make sure the jumper straps between the dual binding post terminals are removed when making a bi-amp or bi-wire type of connection.
Mounting & Placement Options: The Bowers & Wilkins HTM71 S3 center channel loudspeaker can be placed on a speaker stand (sold separately - see Accessories Tab), a table-top, shelf, or other piece of furniture. The included self-adhesive rubber feet prevent unwanted vibration and protect your furniture from scratches (the feet add approximately 0.4375" to the overall height of the speaker). Position the speaker directly above or below the center of the screen, whichever is closest to ear level. Align the front of the speaker approximately level with the screen.
Note: The B&W HTM71 S3 does not come with a mounting bracket, threaded insert, or keyhole slot to wall-mount the speaker.
Bowers & Wilkins 700 Series: The Bowers & Wilkins 700 Series consists of three floorstanding loudspeakers (702 / 703 / 704), three bookshelf loudspeakers (705 / 706 / 707), and two center-channel loudspeakers (HTM71 / HTM72). The 700 Series by Bowers & Wilkins brings your movie and music soundtracks to life with dynamics and details you've never heard before.
Optional Powered Subwoofers: Give your 700 Series loudspeaker setup even more impactful bass with one of Bowers & Wilkins' powered subwoofers (sold separately - see Accessories Tab).
