Features
Overview: The Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 is the newest version of these classic wireless over-ear headphones, and features improved active noise cancellation and exceptional sound quality. They have a slimmer design, a redesigned headband, and better build quality than their predecessor, the Px7 S2e. The Px7 S3 has Bluetooth 5.3 with aptX Lossless, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive for better detail and a more reliable wireless connection. The headphones come with a 4' audio cable to use when you can't use Bluetooth, and a 4' USB-C charging/audio cable. The earcups fold flat for easy storage in the provided zippered storage case.
Ear Cups and Drivers: The Px7 S3 wireless headphones feature new, custom designed 40mm dynamic full-range bio-cellulose drivers with all new suspension, magnets, and voice coils. The drivers are angled inside the ear cup to provide a realistic soundstage. The soft leather memory foam cushions help to block most of the ambient noise and keep your music inside the ear cups.
Cables: The B&W Px7 S3 wireless headphones come with two 4' cables: a conventional analog audio cable and a USB cable for wired digital audio and charging. Both connect to the headphones via its USB-C port on the left earcup. The analog audio cable has a 3.5mm plug for listening to a device with a traditional 1/8" headphone jack. The USB cable lets you connect the headphones to your computer for audio listening, and for charging. Even when connected to an analog audio source, the headphones must still be powered on. The volume and play/pause button will not function when you are using the 3.5mm interface.
Built-in DAC + DSP/Amp: The headphones are equipped with a built-in DAC (digital-to-analog converter) that produces 24-bit, 96kHz audio performance from your computer, smartphone, or tablet via the USB connection. The dedicated, high-performance DSP (digital signal processor) and amplifier turn your streamed digital music files into an elevated, true 24-bit audio experience.
Bluetooth 5.3: The Px7 S3 features Bluetooth 5.3 for improved, and more stable wireless connections. The headphones feature several of the aptX codecs by Qualcomm for enhanced audio quality over Bluetooth. Like the Px7 S2e, the S3s have aptX Adaptive and aptX HD for higher resolution audio and lower latency. With the addition of aptX Lossless, the Px7 S3 can playback lossless audio from compatible sources, providing bit-for-bit replication at CD quality. The headphones also support SBC and AAC codecs.
Wear Detection Sensors: Sensors inside the earcup detect when you are wearing the headphones and when you remove them. The sensors help to save battery power by pausing music playback and entering low power standby mode when you remove them from your head. When you put them back on, the headphones awaken and reconnect to the last connected Bluetooth device. The wear sensors also pause your music when either earpiece is lifted from the ear. Music playback resumes when the ear cup is placed back on the ear. You can adjust the wear sensor features and sensitivity in the B&W Music app.
Active Noise Cancelling (ANC): The B&W Px7 S3 headphones offer Active Noise Cancelling which starts with the natural blockage of some noise by the acoustic seal of the earcups and the closed back design of the over-ear headphones. B&W has doubled the number of microphones to eight (vs. four for the Px7 S2e), to measure the output of the drivers and to detect ambient noise. The ANC circuitry applies a signal opposite to the ambient noise to effectively cancel it, so all you hear is your audio content or phone call. You can control the ANC using the Quick Action button on the left ear cup, or in the B&W Music app.
Ambient Pass-Through: The Ambient Pass-Through feature utilizes the ANC microphones to pick up ambient noise and pass it through into the headphones. This allows the user to stay in tune with the surroundings, listen to safety announcements, and carry on conversations without removing the headphones. The Quick Action button cycles through Active Noise Cancelling, Ambient Pass-Through, and Off.
Bowers & Wilkins Music App: The Bowers & Wilkins Music App is designed to set up and optimize the use of the Px7 S3 headphones with your smartphone or tablet. A new five-band EQ in the app gives you more control over the sound of your music. The True Sound™ mode bypasses any tonal adjustments to deliver the audio as the artist intended. Opening the app on your device automatically makes pairing extremely easy. The app indicates the battery charge level of your headphones and the current firmware version at a glance. The Music app lets you set up and adjust the sensitivity of the Active Noise Cancelling and Ambient Pass-Through features. You can also adjust the sensitivity of the intelligent wear sensor, configure the EQ controls, and to set up and use your preferred voice assistant. The Music app pulls together all of your music streaming services, such as Tidal, Qobuz, TuneIn, and other services, into one location. Headphone software updates are also available through the app. The app is compatible with iOS (15.0 or later) and Android (8.0 and up) devices.
Rechargeable Battery: The headphones are powered by a rechargeable Lithium Polymer battery that is charged via USB with the supplied USB-C cable. With a 2 hour full charge, the Px7 S3 Wireless headphones offer up to 30 hours of battery life using Bluetooth with ANC. A 15-minute Quick Charge provides a solid 7 hours of playback. Battery life is extended when using the wired connection (Bluetooth off), or when ANC is turned off.
On-board Controls: On-board controls are located on the back of both earcups. On the left earcup is the power and Bluetooth pairing switch, and the Quick Action button. The button cycles through the ANC and Ambient Pass-Through functions, and activates your phone's native Voice Assistant. The right earcup holds separate volume up and volume down buttons, plus the textured multi-function button for controlling phone and music playback functions when using Bluetooth. The controls will not operate when used when connected via the 3.5mm analog audio cable.
