About the PSB CS AIC 860

Seamless surround
Seamless surround
Not every in-ceiling speaker is cut out for great home theater performance, but here's one that makes that list. The PSB CS AIC 860's angled driver setup projects sound down from your ceiling and forward toward your listening position, for three-dimensional sound that wraps around you.
With many angled in-ceiling speakers, an effect known as "refraction" can give away the speaker's position in your ceiling, and spoil the effect of seamless home theater. The CS AIC 860s design minimizes this effect, furthering the illusion that the sound is coming directly in front of your listening area.
Nuanced, adjustable sound
The speaker's 6-1/2" woofer smoothly handles mids and lows, while the pivoting tweeter lets you point high-frequency details directly at your listening position. A pair of EQ switches can then be used to individually adjust the output for each, letting you tinker with your sound until it's just the way you want it.
PSB evaluates each of their speakers extensively, performing double-blind tests and comparing measurements in real room conditions and a non-reflective, echo-free anechoic chamber. This ensures their speakers have rich, lifelike sound that faithfully reproduces its original source material.
Made for easier installation
The PSB CS AIC 860 comes with both round and square frameless magnetic grilles, for flexibility in matching your decor. Installation is streamlined with a simple dogleg mounting system. Once the speaker's in place, just tighten each dogleg with a screwdriver. Optional pre-construction brackets and back cans are available separately (not included).
If you're installing these yourself, check out our installation guide for in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. You'll also want to take a look over our selection of in-wall speaker wire to make sure you've got everything you need before "go time."

Features
CustomSound Series: PSB's CustomSound series of high performance architectural loudspeakers offer superior stereo and home theatre sound in residential and commercial applications. Designed inside the anechoic chamber at Canada's National Research Council, the CustomSound series speakers are engineered with PSB's unparallel driver technology and expertise.
Angled Baffle Design: The PSB CS AIC 860 incorporates a unique 15 degree angled baffle that is designed to allow the proper dispersion required to create a true three-dimensional sound stage from an in-ceiling speaker for home theater and stereo applications. With the new angled baffle design, you'll experience a wider and more consistent soundfield which seems to emanate from the chosen listening area rather than from the installation point.
Aimable 1" Titanium Dome Tweeter: The 1" titanium dome tweeter, another proprietary PSB driver, is concentrically mounted and features a carefully engineered Wave Guide and ball-joint pivot mount assembly. This allows the tweeter to go lower in frequency, creating a perfect blend with the woofer in the crossover region, and allows the tweeter to be further aimed toward the listening position for enhanced musical imaging.
6.5" Carbon-Filled Polypropylene Woofer: Featuring PSB's trademark carbon-filled polypropylene 6.5" woofer with rubber surround, this speaker has a warm and balanced sound with plenty of power handling thanks to the high temperature voice coil.
Tweeter & Woofer Level: Adjustment for the level of the tweeter and woofer allow you to "dial-in" the best blend of high and low frequency response for the speaker and its acoustic environment after installation to achieve the most musical balance for every room. The tweeter and woofer level switches are located on the front of the speaker and can be set to +3dB or 0dB.
Precision Crossover Network: The PSB CS AIC 860 in-ceiling loudspeaker utilizes a precision crossover network between the woofer and concentrically mounted tweeter for a smooth wide-band response.
Spring-Post Terminals: The PSB CustomSound series in-ceiling speaker is outfitted with spring-post terminals to connect your speaker wire. The spring-post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 12AWG), pin-connectors, and banana-plugs (single only).
In-Ceiling Installation: The CustomSound series in-ceiling loudspeaker features a slim and discrete profile that practically disappears in the room thanks to its low-profile perforated grille and frameless design, making the speaker easy to install and conceal in all types of rooms. The in-ceiling speaker employs four high strength doglegs for easy installation and removal. In part to their wide dispersion characteristics and other aspects of their superb sonic performance, mounting position in your room is very flexible.
- Cutout Diameter: 9.75"
- Mounting Depth: 5.125" (including drywall)
Paintable Steel Grille (Round & Square): The PSB CS AIC 860 in-ceiling speaker comes with both round and square magnetic frameless grilles. The grilles use high-strength magnets for easy installation of the grilles to the speaker. The grille is constructed of painted steel and can be re-painted to match your ceiling following standard painting practices and techniques (spraying, not rolling or brushing, will yield best results).
- Round Grille Dimensions: 10.75" (diameter) x 0.1875" (depth)
- Square Grille Dimensions: 10.75" (w) x 10.75" (h) x 0.1875" (d)
