Great Sound From a Relatively Small Package
andrew from WASHINGTON, DC on 6/10/2025
These speakers sound wonderful in my 9x13' office. They produce full, clear, accurate sound on their own. I attached a subwoofer (70w, 38-200 Hz) I already had; I like the fuller, deeper low end it provides. Necessary? Not really, but it depends on how you like your sound. Bluetooth was easy to hook up. These are rear-ported speakers, they're 7.5 inches deep (8.5 inches for the amplifier unit due to the heat sink on the back), so they're best suited for a situation where you can provide a little clearance from a wall. Appearance-wise, they look nice. No grilles, so make sure that works for you. Kudos to Crutchfield for shipping and delivering from Virginia to D.C. in a day - I ordered these yesterday and hooked them up at lunch today. That's awesome.
Pros: -Sound -Easy to hook up -Pretty compact

My wife got a new Iphone and it would not bluetooth to our old receiver. My wife has all her music in her phone. So I called and these were recommended to me. Best thing about Crutchfield is the customer service. Sound is good, I do wish there was a way to set up equalization ( I would like to emphasize a bit more base) but for all my wife and I know perhaps she can do that through her phone. They came quickly, set up was a snap. They look good and are well made. I would recommend.

Great set of speakers
John from Oxford, PA on 8/27/2024
Very happy with these guys. I'm not very technical when it comes to speakers so I can't offer much from that standpoint but from what I know they check all the boxes I need. Which is my records sound great when I'm jamming to them. Plus my wife yells at me to turn the volume down so they're apparently plenty loud.

Audioengine A5+ Wireless
Keith A. from FRIDLEY, MN on 4/21/2024
The Audioengine A5+ arrived in 2 days, after the Stock was replenished at Crutchfield. One outer Box protected the middle Box and that middle Box, greatly protected the main Box and all of it's contents inside. Inside the Main Box, the Speakers were well packed in medium soft Foam Blocks and what really blew me away, was the Speakers that were placed in a Foam Bag and placed in a very nice Cloth Bag, with a Drawstring and quick release stopper. Even the Speaker Cables were packaged the same way. Setup was straight forward and was hooked up to my Desktop Computer in about 10 minutes. I elected to not use Bluetooth option and opted to Hard Wire everything together, for best Sound results. The Sound is focused, rich, full, balanced, articulated and very loud for it's size. But, a Subwoofer is needed, in order to bring out the maximum sound in these Speaker. A Subwoofer will give a more life for the Mid and High Frequency Range and offer a better listening experience.
Pros: Great seamless Speaker design, great sound, easy setup and beyond "Excellent" for Computer Audio.
Cons: For the price of almost $540.00, the Speakers should come with a 10', Gold Plated Banana Plugs, rather than Speaker Cable that you have to thread in. Plug in is far better.

Jerry from Eau Claire, WI on 3/6/2024
These speakers have an incredible clarity and sharpness and crisp sound. They could use just a little bit more on the bottom end. So I've ordered the subwoofer to go with them and expect to take care of that. They are back ordered right now. The whole system sounds much larger and much more expensive than they are. I'm enjoying listening to my old favorite collection and I'm hearing things in the music that I've not heard before. Very pleased. I was reluctant to replace the system I've had for 30 yrs because I loved it so much but these things really put them to shame. i'm so happy I made the switch and allowed myself to be dragged into the 21st century. I highly recommend.
Pros: audiophile quality sound Bamboo finish is gorgeous. very easy set-up

Pros: Clear sound, plenty of power

Hits the sweet spot for many home audio applications
Peter from Glen Allen, VA on 1/17/2024
This is my second system (one for the office, one for the home gym). I like the sound, but the differentiator is that this is system has a combination of features that hit a great sweet spot for home audio: two separable speakers (so you can get true stereo), it has a built-in amplifier, and a high-quality built-in bluetooth adaptor. So you can plug it in the old-fashioned way (with wires) or just turn on your iphone and start playing wirelessly.
Pros: Separable speakers for true stereo combined with built-in amp and bluetooth Superior bluetooth (aptX-HD) Solid build quality, good fit/finish

These are great for near field listening. I had bought the HD3's for my desk which I thought had great sound for the size if you really don't have space on the desktop. But the HD3's were lacking a bit of the depth I crave when listening to music in any situation. I switched out to the A5+, which solved the issue. Loving how these sound for my office setup.

A5+ = A5*
Tim from Kalispell, MT on 8/10/2023
The price makes these wonderful $/performance. Fit and finish are great and I love the packaging. Makes them feel special. I unfairly compare these to my KEF Meta LS50's. Similar size, but imaging output power and bass roll-off cannot compete with the 6x more expensive KEF's. That said, these sound delightful, and really punch above their size with the low frequencies. They are a perfect match for a smallest room. I have read where others use them as gaming/computer monitors. That seems like a perfect match. To be super picky: I don't care for the largeish LED on the front to indicate they are on. I know they are on, I can hear them. I also thought they should come with banana jack plugs instead of tinned wires. That's just a little nice adder to make the initial set up go faster and smoother. I spent a fair amount of time with Tony at Crutchfield customer service. Tony, if you read this, DeadMau5 "Seeya" rolls off too much on these and I don't get that mischievous grin when the bass drops, but I do appreciate the recommendation. I will add them to my "parts list"
Pros: Fit and finish, performance per dollar is huge. Perfect for a computer/smaller room. Graceful low end.
Cons: Clunky LED and volume knob on the front panel of left speaker, might need a subwoofer if you want that super deep bass.

Brent from South Haven, MI on 7/19/2023
Right out of the box, I was impressed. Easy set up, great directions and hooked up quickly to my Bluetooth record player. Can't express how great these sound! I'm no expert, but the rich, deep sound is amazing. Everything from blues, jazz, reggae and rock&roll sounds fantastic. I also am impressed with how quick and easy they hooked up to the Bluetooth on my iPhone to play Pandora or Spotify. The speakers themselves are very well designed with great looking cabinets and include everything in the box you need to hook them up to multiple sources.
Pros: Easy set up, great design, amazing sound.
Cons: Included speaker wire could be longer.

Disappointed
Tim from Paonia, CO on 4/21/2023
I think these speakers are not working correctly. The tweeters mostly just hiss and the overall sound is very murky. They sound barely adequate with only acoustic guitar and light vocals, but anything with low mids down to bass quickly disappears into vague rumblings. Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb from Delicate Sound of Thunder is a rumbling blur with only hints of guitar being played. I compared them to my Polk S15 bookshelf speakers (which are excellent). They are about the same size as the A5+s. I was quickly convinced there is something wrong with the A5+ system. It sounds to me like the builtin amplifier(s) are bad. I suggest that Crutchfield test them before sending them to anyone else. I bought a white pair from Crutchfield's Outlet so I knew they were not factory fresh. But there were 3 sets of cables missing plus the cloth bag to hold them. Crutchfield was very prompt about sending me new ones so that was ok. I hope they test these speakers when they get them back and let me know if my expectations were unreasonable or if there is indeed something wrong with them. The Audioengine line of powered speakers get good reviews but if this is what they all sound like, I will look at a different brand instead. I have purchased several items from Crutchfield and plan to do so in the future. Their customer service is very good but perhaps they could do a better job of checking returned items before sending them out again.
Pros: Bluetooth worked quickly and well. Speakers are sturdy and well constructed. The glossy white finish is a nice change from *dark*.
Cons: Sound is terrible with faint treble and muddy bass. Some of the midrange is acceptable if there are no other frequencies.

First of all, I am a fan of AudioEngine. They make great stuff at affordable prices. I have been using the original A2s on my desktop for about 10 years and have been very happy with them. Recently, I was looking to up my audio experience while at work. After discussing the options with Crutchfield help desk, I went with the A5+ wireless. Holy Cow! I entered a whole new reality with these speakers! Smooth. That was the initial thought that came to mind. Compared to the A2s, these are smooth, clean and crisp. I am enjoying aspects of music that I have not noticed before with greater depth of sound. The sound stage with these are wonderful as well. The highs and mids are great! At lower levels, the bass is a bit lacking. At higher levels of playback, it rocks. Switching from wired to wireless is easy. Connect by Bluetooth and you are good to go. No unhooking or flipping a switch. Can't recommend them enough.
Pros: Sound, ease of use.
Cons: a bit large for desktop, but it can work

Well Worth It
Darrell from Des Peres, MO on 7/17/2022
I purchased these to compliment my new Audio-Technica turntable. Having made a living as a recording engineer, I was pleasantly surprised by the solid build and the full, detailed sound quality. I am using these direct, without a preamp, through the supplied phono cables and have them alternatively connected via Bluetooth to my iMac. Installation was simple. One word of caution, before playing audio through them, make sure to spin the volume counterclockwise a bunch to make sure the audio is turned down. I inadvertently blasted out the room when I played audio from my computer for the very first time. That was an unwelcome surprise. Overall, I'm completely satisfied with my purchase.
Pros: Solidly built Full, detailed sound Easy to set up Good value
Cons: Volume level unknown without playing audio

I have these speakers paired via BT to a Sony Sony PS-LX310BT. The TT has an upgraded LP GEAR CFN6500LE stylus. They do sound better than the Bose Soundtouch 120 system it had been paired to. Poor sound and wireless setup is the worst
Kris from Colorado on 1/19/2022
For wireless speakers with so few buttons, its amazing how much work and luck is required to actually get them setup. It took roughly 40-50 minutes of turning the speakers on/off and pushing the bluetooth pairing button for different lengths and different patterns before it made a connection. The wireless setup instruction video literally only shows connecting the wires between the speakers and the power cord. There is no input switching or any other smarts. There's nothing you can do to improve or adjust the sound beyond the volume. I found the speakers to be very bass heavy without actually having sharp bass. The vocals are drowned out and the treble is really weak. If you're streaming from your phone or computer, you may be able to adjust these on the signal side, but coming directly from a turntable, that wasn't an option for me. These are going back in the box, I wouldn't recommend them if they were half the price. Pairing problems are frustrating, but poor sound can't be overlooked.
Pros: Look nice
Cons: Pairing is a nightmare and documentation/support are useless. Sound is muddy, emphasis on bass that overwhelms the vocals and treble.

Just OK
Crutchfield customer from Pennsylvania on 1/15/2022
I suppose that if all you want to do is stream music from a phone in a small space, these will work. I think the sound is very "thin" however, and they definitely need a sub, which I find disappointing for the money. In my application, I added a BT-transmitter to an older, but high-quality music system, and I am broadcasting the music program using the BT-HD codec to these speakers in another room. The pairing was easy and automatic, and the connection seems reliable. There is a major latency-lag however, even using BT-HD. This is not critical for me, since I am in a different room from the source, but I'm not sure this will work for a video application. These speakers are definitely better than cheap computer-speakers or built-in TV speakers, but they do not sound as good as I think they should for the money. Maybe my standards are too high.
Pros: Easy setup
Cons: Thin sound

I absolutely love these speakers. I have noticed background accompaniments that I've never heard before in music ...piano solos, guitar rifts, etc. Love the bass sounds. My only regret is that there is no way to reduce the bass in sites with spoken dialog, as movies, audio books, newscasts, etc. I think there should be a control button to do that. But I still give them five stars!
Pros: Very rich sound and no distortion when volume is turned to loud.

Perfectly Fit Our Requirements for Wireless Indoor Speakers
Mark from Parsippany, NJ on 6/17/2020
As a family of active musicians, we were looking to replace our antiquated wall mounted system in our family room with speakers that could be powered by our iPad, wall mounted CD player or iPhones while provide enough full sound to fill the room without being overdriven or tinny sounding. These speakers DEFINITELY fit the bill. Coupled with Metra Helios AS-SPKR-26 Wall mounts, these two speakers hide away near the ceiling in their respective corners waiting to come alive. Connecting to the speakers is quite effortless from a device, and the included remote provides controls so you don't have to reach up and adjust the speaker once positioned and the volume is set. The sleep feature is nice too: a pulsing white light lets you know the speakers are ready at a moments notice. Nemo, our advisor, recommended these as opposed to the smaller A2+ wireless desktop application version. He was correct as these adequately fill the room with punchy bass and piercing highs. You can't go wrong with these: They look beautiful, sound amazing and really fit the bill for an elegant wireless solution for indoor speakers.
Pros: Great sound, great look, easy to connect to, limited range to connect for security purposes
Cons: None at this time

Very pleased with these new speakers! The sound is great even during the break in time and I don't think I will need a subwoofer. The highs are more bell like which I prefer and the base is present but not overpowering. I wanted speakers for the bedroom that would work easily with Alexa for streaming but also be able to use with my iPhone for my own playlists and these work seamlessly. Carson (Crutchfield Specialist) recommended these for an easy kitchen set up, my 2nd-gen Echo was not cutting it. I wanted a set of speakers small enough for the location I had in mind (check), bigger/richer sound (check), easy set-up and connectivity to my Echo device and Amazon music (check) with as little wires as possible (check). Awesome speakers, you won't be disappointed.
Pros: Easy set-up and connectivity. Small footprint. Full, rich sound with room filling bass.

I am an apartment dweller who was looking for powered wireless bookshelf speakers to get back into audiophilia. I've got about 36 hours (mostly classic rock and alt-country) logged on them and couldn't be happier. Wireless connection is a breeze and I also wired an old CD player to it. These speakers check all the boxes for my wants and I'm enjoying the rich details I had been missing. Of course the difference is even more pronounced with lossless tracks and now I'm really glad I never threw out my old CDs! I bucked up for the bamboo finish and I'm glad I did. They are handsome to look at and as formidable as the furniture in my living room. My experience was enhanced after I bought some speaker stands for them. These guys are too nice to put on a shelf, floor, desk, or table in my opinion. I don't feel like these lack for anything but I am so pleased with the sound and construction that I'm giving serious thought to buying the S8 sub just as a complement. I am completely satisfied with this purchase and would recommend to anyone considering these beauties.
Pros: Price, construction, appearance, sound, ease of use.

Worth Every Penny
Remy from Seaside, CA on 4/24/2020
Bought them in white. Fit and finish is excellent. Using the Audioengine D1 DAC via USB out from 27 inch iMac. With only 4-6 hrs of play time on them, they're not even broken in (40-50 hrs). Still, Amazon ULTRA HD tracks sound incredible. Excellent faithfulness to the tracks via Bluetooth. While listening experiences are wildly subjective, these speakers are very capable of handling a variety of recordings with superb fidelity. Plenty of sound for medium sized rooms. At this price, they are punching far above their weight class. If you want better, drop $2.5k for the KEF LS50 Wireless.
Pros: - sound quality - build quality - price - remote has sleep function - aptX HD Bluetooth codec
Cons: - the subwoofer output has to use both left and right output connections on the back panel instead of a single line out - all in one amplifier/speaker packages suffer from single point of failure from a systems perspective.

Still in the 'Break In Period' but very pleased so far. Speakers sound good w/out harshness. So far Demo'd following vinyl, The Who's Tommy; Ryan Adams Love is Hell MFSL; Rush - Hemispheres and Grace Under Pressure and all sound articulate and well balanced. Before ordering I assumed that I would soon be adding a sub-woofer but I think these will be great for my purposes w/out one. The blue tooth is seamless as well...Of course it should be but there's nothing more annoying than having to constantly re-pair to your phone so I'm very happy there are no issues w/it. Overall, very pleased and can't wait to get through break in period and do some "Critical Listening" as it states in manual.

Great speakers. Full sound, nice highs, good bass. They are quite impressive for a small speaker. They look good too.
Pros: Nice sound, small size
