Versatile great sounding option
Christopher from Prescott, AZ on 6/18/2025
Very versatile. Warm sound, easy to listen to. These things are heavy. Some of the best walnut veneers I've ever seen. Wasn't too impressed with the Bluetooth sound. Optical in is the way to go. As far as price, they are worth it but no more. Was a little surprised that the volume knob was scratchy to the touch when turning it. A metal on metal feel. Not sure if that's how they all are.
Pros: Easy to setup and use. Hefty speakers but good mobile option for me.
Cons: The volume knob lacks quality.

A good investment
Crutchfield customer from Charles Town, WV on 9/24/2023
Bought these for my office, which is 10' X 16". They sit on top 42" high bookcases which span the 10' width of the office, and are about 14' from my recliner. I'm 77 and have been listening to classical music since a teenager; though it's been a good 10 years since I've propped my feet up and just listened. I decided to treat myself to some of my old classical CDs and some Spotify jazz. Only have about 10 hours of listening so far . . . but I have enjoyed every minute. Listening to Brahms: Ein deutsches Requiem is a joy I nearly forgot. A new CD player and subwoofer are in my future (always looking to the future). Even jazz on Spotify sounds good. A good investment for this old man.
Pros: Ease of installation Ease of listening
Cons: None so far

For medium to low level listening these have been absolutely amazing and I don't feel there's any bass or treble lacking in the response. I haven't really cranked them up but that's not why I bought them. I recommend these for a vinyl setup or lossless playback setup where you want a simple all-in-one solution. The remote and bluetooth are a nice touch, though I'm not really using either on the regular it's very nice to have.

Crutchfield customer from TRUMBULL, CT on 2/10/2023
The Audioengine HD 6 definitely sounds like the company's top of the line Bluetooth-enabled speaker system! I originally auditioned the H5+, which sounded amazing! However, the HD6 is even better in many ways. The larger 1" silk-dome tweeter and 5.5" Kevlar/woven base drivers emit a more complete and larger sound, easily filling a mid-sized room! At a close listening distance of about 6-8' , this system really shines! One can hear clarity, and good separation between the instruments, especially with acoustical music. Vocals sound rich and well- defined. I love the inclusion of the AKM AK 4396A DAC, this adds a warm and musical sound quality, and at this price-point, I don't know of any other small Bluetooth powered speaker system that sounds this satisfying and enjoyable to listen to. Well-done Audioengine! The staff at Crutchfield were great at explaining this product and the service and support is top notch! Paul C

Putting the HD6 speakers on an IsoAcoustics Iso-Stand improved the sound as well. The bluetooth connection works perfectly. I feel like I have found a near audiophile sound for around $1200.00

I just upgraded my Audio Engine A5+ to a HD6 today. Wow! The HD6 is only slightly larger than the A5+ but the sound improved significantly on all dimensions. I also have their S8 subwoofer which punches above its weight. I can't wait till the HD6 speakers have fully burned in. BTW, I am an audiophile with $20k worth of audio equipment, so I am not easily impressed.
Pros: Outstanding Computer Speakers at the price point.
Cons: None. Glad that Audio Engine picked up the shipping costs and sales tax.

Bought these from Crutchfield. Bought the S8 sub through another retailer. Both speakers and the sub blew out from god knows what (power surge?, they were all plugged into a surge protector. other items plugged in were fine). Diane from Crutchfield and a very nice other gentleman whos name I can't remember helped get me replacement speakers. The other retailer told me tough luck, buy a new sub. Guess where I bought the sub? Obviously Crutchfield. I will never spend a single penny buying electronics from anyone else. If Crutchfield doesn't have something in stock, I will wait. Impressive
Joe from Red Hook, NY on 11/19/2021
I'm a hopeless audiophile who listens to vinyl through expensive Tannoys and a class A tube amp in a dedicated listening room. I bought these for my family to listen to music in the living room, looking for speakers that were small, easy to use and not ugly. My expectations were pretty limited. What I didn't expect was how incredible sounding these speakers would be. I was blown away the moment I turned them on. Floored, really. I was even forced by happenstance to put them on a bookshelf, an audiophile crime, but they still sound incredible. Count me as highly impressed with how powerful, clear and articulate these are without sounding harsh or compressed or shouty. The bass is enormous. A great, balanced, hifi speaker. My wife loves them because they're handsome and clear and easy to use, so they made me look good, too.
Pros: True hifi speakers with lots of power and great sound.

I live in a city where it's another retailer or nothing so I decided to give Crutchfield a go. I bought the hd6's and was happy but I didn't like the idea of not being able to compare speakers. My solution was to buy a Bluesound speaker and compare. The hd6 won. Then my wife felt the hd6 had too heavy a bass so I bought the Kanto Tuk to compare. We had a speaker off between the Tuk and hd6 with 2 friends. We listened to multiple genres consisting of Bret Dennen, David Gray, Commodores, The Who, Rush, and Lee Morgan. 3 out 4 picked the hd6 hands down. Added bonus is that they were the least expensive. If you like a big full sound get the hd6.

Very nice right out of the box
Crutchfield customer from Bowie, MD on 5/2/2021
If they improve after breaking in, I'll be really impressed. Most notable to me is that the system has clear high notes. Not brash, or brassy, just a nice natural sound. I've always been one to push up the treble on speakers and was concerned about the tweeters on these speakers after reading many reviews, but no worries here - they sound very nice straight away. The bass is not strong, but it is adequate.

A Great Addition to Your Coping-With-COVID Kit
Sean P. from NAUGATUCK, CT on 7/1/2020
I had bought my father a pair of A5+ speakers as a gift a while back, and had also purchased a pair of HD3s for my away-from-home office, *and* having encouraged my ex to buy a pair of these, I was pretty familiar with what I was getting when I bought these for my home office. And yet, I was still pleasantly surprised. At first, I wasn't, but their placement towards the back of my desk was less than ideal. A set of speaker stands later, and I was and remain very, very impressed. They're crystal clear, with a very smooth and clear soundstage, and perhaps just a touch on the warm side of neutral. They're a little lacking in the deep bass department, but it's not fair to expect speakers with 5.5" woofers in a (relatively) small enclosure to rattle windows either. I have what I think is a very nice setup in my living room that costs many multiples of what these do, but there are definitely times I stay in my office a little longer just to hear the proverbial "one more song", which is as good an endorsement as anyone can give, I think. My productivity has occasionally suffered as I lose focus on work and instead focus on the music, but that's a tradeoff I can live with.
Pros: Great soundstage/presence, great tonal balance, a surprising ability to fill a space with sound, premium feeling remote (silly, but it's the little things that count)
Cons: If you're expecting window rattling bass, you'll need a subwoofer, but that's to be expected with speakers of this size

After looking for various solutions (AV Receiver, Integrated Power Amp, etc.) I came upon these stunning speakers by Audioengine. The choice made perfect sense as I was basically upgrading some powered "studio" speakers anyway. I'm very impressed with the build quality and the sound is way more than I expected. The stereo spread is amazing and great for classical & smooth jazz CD's to Pandora. Very punchy and tight bass and for TV they enhance the dialogue and it sounds like I have a center channel speaker now. If you want a simple and elegant solution for playing CD's, DVD's streaming and TV, you can't go wrong with the Audioengine HD6. I love them!!
Pros: -Compact but punchy bass and clear midrange -Beautiful build quality and wood cabinets -Plenty of inputs to hook up your gear -Excellent soundstage and clarity
Cons: Some may want a sub for bass heavy oriented music

HD6 delivers the classics but will also handle the Allman Brothers!
Mike from Cartersville, GA on 2/18/2019
I purchased a pair of Audioengine HD6 speakers with the complementary S8 subwoofer about 2-3 years ago from Crutchfield. This combination provides a quite credible audio experience. The HD6 in my listening room reaches the manufacturers specs of about 50 Hz, and after adding the S8 subwoofer, a nearly full range bass to about 35-38 Hz is achieved. There are adjustments on the S8 which allow you to blend the bass to match the HD6 drop-off. The S8 rounds out the bass of this small system to provide a tight, controlled lower range which I find very pleasing. The silk tweeter is masterful in its delivery of precise, sweet (but not syrupy), highs. I don't hear any phase problems between tweeter/woofer interaction, which usually means an excellent active crossover was provided along with proper driver design. All in all, an impressive accomplishment given the price range. WOULD RECOMMEND!
Pros: 1-Controlled, tight bass even with Rock 2-Freakish highs that allow a piccolo to place you in heaven before your time 3-Sound stage in which you can almost see that piccolo and the drums to his right!
Cons: After nearly 3 years I don't think I'm gonna find any!

Great high end and low end once broken in
Crutchfield customer from Everett, WA on 4/1/2018
It is true what they say about these speakers taking time to break-in. Out of the box they sounded muffled and quite disappointing. The high end was simply not there and the bass felt too deep, almost as if I was listening to my speakers with a sweatshirt put over them. Quickly though these speakers broke in. I live in an apartment building so I couldn't play these extremely loud, but I was surprised how quick they broke in just playing music at a medium to soft level. In terms of construction these speakers are beautiful simply put. The wood veneer looks like actual wood, you could never tell the difference. They are also the perfect size for mounting onto the wall. They are big but not a monstrosity. Overall I am very satisfied with them. If you buy them, do give them a chance to break in they are amazing speakers. At least 10-20 hours.
Pros: Quality construction, good sound, perfect size
Cons: Take time to break in (like any quality speaker)

Nice upgrade from A5 speakers
John from Poway, CA on 7/18/2016
The HD6 speakers replaced my original A5 (not A5+) speakers. I loved the A5, but the volume stopped going up past about a 2 and I'd already had them repaired for something else once, so I decided to get some new ones. These are great. I love the bluetooth and the sound is a noticeable improvement. I always had the A5s combined with a separate powered Sub Woofer and suggest that one do the same with these as well as the bass still needs to be rounded out in my opinion (but I'm no audiophile). So it's 4 stars for me. If the bass was sufficient in itself, if there was a balance control for L/R volume and if there was a Bass/Treble adjustment feature, then it would be a 5. Overall though... I'm very happy with the HD6 speakers.

Big Sound; Small Sight
Cormac from Kemah,Texas on 5/29/2016
Replacing our failing Bose system with an Audio Engines system is a great success. The compact, good looking system sounds great, while looking good and only loses the unwanted wires and bulk. We installed it in our open space kitchen/family room on the top of kitchen cabinets, so it effectively merges in, avoiding the sound system boiler room effect the Bose system created. Both my wife and I keep our large music collections on iTuned and now use Apple Music via our iPhones. We retained out Apple Play system to distribute music to other rooms, which works very well. And we connect to the system wirelessly mostly using Bluetooth, which has a great range. Audio Engines for us is a major evolutionary step in home music - as big as CDs, iTunes and surround sound.
Pros: Great sound Small footprint - no ugly equipment and cabling Great connectivity Leverages Apple Music Easy to install
Cons: It's not our much loved dying Bose system, but it a great replacement and leverages Apple music. And esthetically it's a massive improvement.
